Into the Fire, the 4th and final book in the Night Prince Series....................to be honest............this book didn't do it for me!~!! At all!!!!!

The big Vlad and Leila love story finale!!! But where was the love, the romance????
It was a series of fights, and more fights...killings and more killings of bad guys!!! And Leila and Vlad dashing off from one place to another trying to find more bad guys to kill!!!

I liked Ian, the badass vampire we were first introduced in the Night Huntress Series but in this book he comes across as a really irritating and idiotic.....his lines were most of the time, really tasteless!!!
"Ah, Leotie, my beauteous poppet, I take back everything I said about you being an uppity crone. Take me to your bed, I promise endless delights. I'll even limit myself to tongues only. Always happy to accommodate a preference."

At first, I actually laughed at some of the things he comes out with but after a while, his lines become boring and monotonous - all this slapstick stuff!!!
"Grand," Ian said in a tone that implied he felt the opposite. "Does anyone else feel the sudden need for a shag?"
And....it just continues..................
"My jaw dropped. "You'd seriously bang a dragon?"

"Oh, for days," he responded at once. "Can you imagine the Internet videos? I'd be a bloody legend.”
This series started off well for me but as it progressed, I kind of felt a bit let down. I missed the romance and love that comes across in the Night Huntress Series - Cat & Bones....who never make an appearance in this book and which I really missed!!!!
The ending was meh!!!! Vlad and Leila go off into the sunset to have their HEA!!! Seriously!!! And it looks as if the next book is going to be Ian's......hopefully he's going to be a bit more deeper than we see in this story!!!

If you've read the previous 3 books and love Vlad and Leila, then you will have to read this book!..................like I did..............Despite my feelings.........

I knew it! I just knew this was gonna happen since the moment the fourth book in the trilogy was announced.

What can I tell you? It was no surprise at all. You could guess everything.

The whole book was just how Leila is awesome, and she only has to believe in herself and just do it, and it works! Every single time she is the amazing solution to it!

The only good part about this was Ian (hence this is not only 1 star). As it was announced he is gonna get his own book and I am terrified what he's going to turn into? Little mushy love-struck idiot?

Okay so I don't have a ton of time and I have been dealing with health issues lately. I haven't been feeling like writing super long reviews so I'm going to keep this short and to the point. I love Vlad and Leila. However this book was a bit slow at times. I would have liked more romantic time between Leila and Vlad. Still I really enjoyed this book. I really hope that Leila's sister gets a book. I know this was the last book in Leila and Vlad's love story but I felt it left things a bit open. Were Bones and Cat's last book felt like an ending this one felt like there was more missing. I can't wait to read Ian's book!

➦Ok, so. The question that bugs me the most after reading this book is this one:
what's the optimal speed at which Vlad can fly?

➦Because, you know, sometimes he flies a chopper instead of just using his "gift" which makes me believe that he's slower than the chopper.

➦But then there are times when he flies out of an exploding building right before it goes boom. That has to be pretty fast, right? You now understand my confusion. But that's neither here nor there.

➦Either way, I have enjoyed this series thoroughly and, even though I've read the first 3 books back to back and had to wait for this 4th installment for what seems like FOREVER, I still remembered most of the plot, which made me VERRA happy. Because that just goes to show how original this story and its characters are.

➦I really recommend this to anyone who loves PNR with vampires- the hero is this is a badass vamp- and anything to do with special magical abilities, spells and other similar kind of SHTUFF. You know the one. This series is action packed, has some steam, angst and even fun banter. I laughed and I even cried a little at the end.

3.5 Demons, Witches, and Magic Oh My….. Stars!!

 photo PicsArt_1422499617890_zpshzt7byui.jpg

I’ve been anxiously awaiting what seems like a very long time for Vlad’s final book!! Sadly, It wasn't what I had hoped for…..don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. There are some fun moments between Vlad and Layla, but, honestly Ian kind of stole the show in this one. To me this read more like a prequel to Ian’s book(s) rather than a Night Prince Novel. New plot twists, storylines, and changes in current characters were introduced, but, I felt like I was left hanging on a couple of the storylines. Vlad and Leila bounced from one dramatic situation to another, involving magic, demons, and witches and it was just too much at times for my liking.

“If you think this is impressive, I know a fellow whose wife can shapeshift into an ancient dragon. I ache with envy at the thought of shagging one of those.”

My jaw dropped. “You'd seriously bang a dragon?”

“Oh, for days,” he responded at once. “Can you imagine the Internet videos? I'd be a bloody legend.” - Ian & Layla

In this book Layla discovers and embraces a newly discovered heritage power and her roots. Unfortunately, Layla’s hated inner blasted voice is back and just as irritating as ever, as is her constant references to her “carnival days”.

Vlad groupies (myself included!) don’t despair; Vlad is just as swoon worthy as ever (maybe even more swoon worthy) as he does everything in his formidable power to find a way to break the spell Layla has been saddled with. His blind devotion and love for Layla is the best part of this book, the lengths he will go to, to save Layla is truly a thing of beauty.

I’m eager for the next series Jeaniene Frost will bring to us featuring a favorite character, bad Vamp Ian (and I’m hoping Veritas, who I personally think will be a fun, entertaining match for this delicious naughty Vampire), and hopefully we’ll get answers to unresolved storylines in this book.

Leila: I love you, I thought again, trying to force the words into his mind. From the fresh wave of emotions that rolled over mine, he’d heard me. I love you, I repeated as my vision went black and everything else slipped away. Forever . . .

Vlad: “Anything for you.”

First of all I have to say that Vlad and Leila is one of my favourite paranormal romance couples.
Vlad is one of my favourite antiheroes in general.
Leila is one of the strongest, most talented, bravest and smartest heroines I have read about.

If this was another book about them and the epilogue of their love story, I would have given 5 stars. But somehow most of the time in the book...:

1. ...Vlad and Leila are not on the spotlight.
a) I don't care what happens to Leila's sister. This is not her story. And anyway I am not a fan of what happens to her. And I did not like Maximus interaction and interest. I like Maximus, but I have negative feelings for Gretchen.
b) I don't like that Ian steals the show one more time. Now that all the focus should be on Vlad and Leila, Ian and his stupid decision with the demon feels like a filler. I can understand that this will be the beginning of his own books with Veritas, but it shouldn't be introduced in this book.

2. ...Vlad does things alone. Leila does things alone.
a) What is the point of Leila's discovery of her Cherokee heritage? And how this is tied to Vlad? Who cares?
b) Why Vlad keeps hiding things from Leila? They have be through so many dangerous things together. Why Vlad is still a jerk and makes her suffer with his secrets and lies? I could not understand his reasoning.

If we add to the following comments the death of one of my favourite characters in the previous books, it will be obvious that I had a hard time finishing this book.

And honestly this should not be the end. Vlad and Leila could have had so many more great adventures together with their special abilities and their unique love.
The Epilogue was short and not that satisfying.

Good bye Vlad and Leila! I will possibly see you again in Ian's books.

"It appears you're right --- I simply can't go an entire day without murdering someone.”

Gosh I wanted to love this book so bad, the first three books in the series were amazing, and while this one was enjoyable.... I merely liked it instead of loved it. I remember getting a newsletter about Frost's family, I felt so much for this author. Her mom dying then repeated issues with her dad's health, that's more than anyone should have to take in. Knowing this, as a true fan would do, I understood and knew she needed to take her time to write this book and I think the wait was worth it. (FYI, this is all mentioned in an introduction of the book as well).

I had to reread the entire series before picking up this final book, as I had picked it up and by page 3 I was terribly lost. Hence an epic reread of some of the best PNR there is. No author has the voice that Frost has. So much witty humor and so much emotion packed into her books. There's a reason I'll read anything she publishes.

This fourth novel involves Vlad and Leila working to destroy the link between her and a powerful necromancer. Their bodies and lives are tied together, so if one of them dies, the other does too. But finding the necromancer proves to be more difficult than anticipated.

My favorite part of this book was the crossover of the character Ian. That man no doubt was the best part, bringing endless comic relief and making me laugh my ass off out loud in public. I swear this man needs his own spin off-ASAP!

The flawed aspect of this book is it's almost information overload and focuses more on action than the romance and relationship between Leila and Vlad. I can understand why fans were let down by this book.

The Night Prince series is one you must read! Look past the god awful covers and you'll discover one of your favorite romance couples!

Reread September 2021: And I'm done with my third reread of this whole series! This was a much more enjoyable experience this third time around. I knew what I was going into and I knew from the last reread that I was guaranteed to like it. Vlad seems to have become a fungus because he did grow on me it seems. I actually want more books featuring Vlad and Leila in the future if I'm being honest!
_______________________

Update After Reread August 2020: I was really harsh on this novel for some odd reason. This wasn't nearly as bad as I made it out to be in this review and I'm sorry for what I said. Vlad is still domineering but he kind of got better as the novels progressed. Gretchen is nowhere near as annoying as I made her out to be in this review. I had forgotten what character dies in this book and it still hit a sore spot. Ian's raunchy humor was an amazing part of this book! Overall, I'm glad I gave this series a second chance so many years down the line!

I had no expectations when I started this novel and that helped this book somewhat. Maybe it was me, but almost everyone (especially Vlad and Leila) came off as annoying and dramatic. The only saving grace was Ian's raunchy humor, but the author found a way to ruin that too.

I despised Leila this time around. All the secrets and the drama finally caught up to me and at one point I wished she would die just to get it over with. Her sister Gretchen was also very irritating and seemed to be there just to add more drama on top of everything.

Vlad was still too domineering and I still don't understand why all the secrecy. He and Leila seemed to have no chemistry. I don't care enough about him as a character to bother getting angry.

What got my emotions high was what happened to Ian. WTF was that about? He was one of the few characters that were actually entertaining in this book and he gets that for trying to help?

The ending didn't do anything for me either. People died and cliché things happened. Vlad and Leila were happy once more and everything was right in their precious little world while Ian suffers the consequences to Vlad's actions.

The Audio Book:

I adored the narrator. Tavia Gilbert is incredible. I loved her realistic screams and crying dialogue. This is the first audio book that I listened to that felt like I was almost listening to a movie because of how realistic everything seemed. She also had a large range of male voices which helped me differentiate who was talking without it being specified. Tavia Gilbert was this book's saving grace.

3.5 ★'s

I was happy to finally get to the last book of Vlad and Leila. It's been one l-o-n-g road...and not always a good one.

TBH, most of my disappointment comes from Vlad. He's old school, there's no question but that's just not enough for me anymore. Maybe if I was reading a Carpathian book, I would feel different. Seriously, I'm sure I'm in the minority but I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

Leila, on the other hand, was great! She was able to adapt and move forward...and she was always thinking of Vlad, wanting the best for him. It was heartwarming and made me really want to pull for her! And then kill Vlad when he kept being a douche to her! Okay, okay...I'll get off my bandwagon...for now.

Vlad and Leila are still trying to find Mircea and knowing that he has sorcery powers leads them to Mencheres for help. That in turn, leads them to one of my all time favorite characters, Ian.

Oh Ian, I have missed you so...our little naughty ginger. He really loves to mix things up and he had a lot of fun with Vlad...maybe too much fun! (Thank goodness for Leila!) And Wow...I was a little taken back by his loyalty but loved it all at the same time.

description

However, things with Ian can only go so far and through some information, Leila is able to get some help from her "roots". I really enjoyed those scenes and I'm a little upset we didn't get more of that and with Gretchen.

When it's time for the big drama, we get to meet another interesting character and you can almost predict right away where that's going to go.

Things wrap up pretty easily and finally, finally everything gets taken care of it. Well, except for one teensy tiny bit.

There's an epilogue, but again, it's pretty short and not enough of Vlad and Leila. I was happy to see a little warming from Vlad...he definitely has him moments. His protectiveness is super sexy and he certainly knows what to do in the bedroom so there is that.

Next up...IAN's BOOKS!!!! I'm just a tad excited in case you couldn't tell and what a great title, Night Rebel....LOL, that's for sure. Now we just have to wait....but, here's a quote from his craziness to tide you over:

My jaw dropped. "You'd seriously bang a dragon?"

"Oh, for days," he responded at once. "Can you imagine the Internet videos? I'd be a bloody legend."

Update #3: 6/23/2016
Just found out that the "new" release date us February 28, 2017.
Thanks. Just thanks.

Update #2: 10/26/2015
I call bullcrap! October 25, 2016 is NOT considered "summer 2016" I'm pretty sure that falls in well, Fall.

So, basically I can lift the hiatus in 365 days from now because 2016 is a leap year.

Update #1: 9/25/2015
Is that...a... title?? and a 'round the ballpark release date?
Plz tell me this is the last book!!!

don't lie to me again.

Original: 1/5/2015

The f*ck!!?!?!

I've held not reading Once Burned and Twice Tempted AND Up From the Grave for the sole reason that the last book of Vlad, Bound by Flames, would come out and I can read in peace knowing it was all OVER... and now...

ARGH!!!!

Screw you for messing my 2015 TBR pile...

BLEH

btw, the reason I'm annoyed is because I seem to be reading unreliable authors...ugh. finish your damn series (Julie Kagawa) dont start new ones. I need a schedule. No ambiguity "it might come out THIS year" bullcrap.

5 I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT’S OVER STARS!!!!

Into the Fire is the last book in the Night Prince series. I seriously hope Jeaniene frost writes a spin-off series off of this spin-off series because I have crazy love for some of the characters, more on that later.

I didn’t really know anything about this series, but four days later I read the entire series back-to-back and I am happy and sad for the final book. I could have read Vlad and Leila forever and something tells me this isn’t the true end. I hope to get little glimpses of them in future books.

I felt like each book in the series was really different and it’s no surprise the final book was a little different too. At least in my opinion. Whereas the first books focused on the vampire world, I felt like this one focused on the magical world and I couldn’t be happier about that.

Into the Fire was fun, refreshing and I love the strong bond and relationship between Vlad and Leila. They are the unstoppable and unbreakable couple. YAY!

We know that Lelia is linked to the necromancer Mircea. If Mircea dies then Lelia dies. If Mircea get hurt so does Lelia. Vlad is doing everything and everything possible to capture Micrea and have him imprisoned in his dungeon until they can break the spell.

What I love best about this book is VLAD!!!! I know, no surprise here, but that man just melts my heart. Flames and all. As I said before Vlad will stop at NOTHING to protect Leila. Swoon eyes right?

The other part of the book I love is the side characters. I love the friends, the relatives and best friends. I want each of them to have his and her own book. I simply just want more.

Into the Fire will suck you in. From the first page you will not put it down, just like EVERY book in this series. I’m so surprised that the author can maintain the pace and momentum, but she does and that is why I LOVE this book and this series so much.

I know a lot of fans have waited a long time for this one and I can tell you this. You will not be disappointed!!!!

As for the next spin-off series, I kind of want

Glad the series is over, talk about ruining a once good character in Vlad by pairing him with a one dimensional, vanilla, milquetoast bore.

Once again Leila was in constant danger, in every book she's been used in someway to get at Vlad, it was the same story but with a different bad guy. She honestly didn't have much of a personality apart from being an insufferable Mary Sue who needed to be saved at least once a day. Which of course made Vlad insufferable as well, all he did was growl, make cheesy threats and cast dangerous looks. Even with all of Vlad's over the top reactions about dullard Leila's life it was near impossible to tell that he loved her, it was that hollow and forced.

Hated Leila's bastard inner voice, it never said anything interesting and was ten times more annoying than her normal dull monologuing.

Leila couldn't stop banging on about spending years performing in a carnival, she kept going on and on about it. We get it she worked in a bloody carnival. What was totally daft though was the insistence that the skills she learned there directly translated to her being able to make her way in the vampire world. Yea, okay.

Vlad's fucking aura. It felt like his bloody aura was mentioned in every other sentence, and it was obviously just a lazy way to show what Vlad was feeling at the time, which was usually nothing but anger. The guy needed to get a grip.

Leila's powers became even more snowflakey than they were before, she seemed almost as powerful as Vlad and Mencheres at times, which was rather ridiculous considering their age and experience. On top of that Leila out of nowhere had some epic Native American heritage despite being white, it suddenly being said out of nowhere that she was 25% Cherokee in the last book of the series btw for deus ex machinas reasons didn't make her a POC. It was disappointing that even though she was white she was written to have some profound, one of a kind connection to some ancient Native American. Ugh.

Didn't buy all the magic/sorcery stuff, and there being a whole powerful magic community when it was never mentioned before by previous characters. How did Vlad and co manage to miss a huge powerful community living side by side by them?

What was the point of Ian? All he did was take Leila/Vlad hither and dither and then make snarky remarks about shagging. He was a total joke.

Leila saying she would choose Vlad's life over Gretchen's was disturbing. Gretchen was her younger sister and was only 23 years old, they had grown up together and she had never done any harm to anyone. Whereas Vlad was a centuries old cold blooded killer, and had already more than lived his life. Also, Leila had only known Vlad for less than a year, and Gretchen had always been in her life.. Yet she would still throw her sister's young life away for someone who should be long dead? Ugh, Leila putting Vlad above Gretchen was fucked up, also the decades long familial love she had for her should have far out weighed the mere months of romantic love she had for Vlad.

Ian was a total pain, he used to be quite funny in small doses but I was sick of him in this, he wasn't funny at all, he was immature and disgusting. I feel sorry for Veritas being paired with awful Ian. No doubt despite being super old Veritas will be near virginal or have been celibate for centuries or won't have had good sex in ages or more likely won't have ever had good sex in her long life or she'll be a blushing wide eyed dolt who has never even kissed anyone before. I guess all of that cringe is much better than the fucked up recent trend of centuries old dudes in UF/PNR getting their HEA with the baby/child of their good friend. So I applaud the author for not going down that sick, sick road.

Been meaning to get around to this book like forever.
I have had a copy on my kindle now for well over a year but wanted to reread the rest of the series before embarking on this final instalment. Well after finally getting around to rereading and then onto this all I can say was it was definitely worth the wait and I really did adore everything about this. Slightly sad to be leaving Vlad and Leila behind but also so glad that the conclusion to there epic love story and adventure together lived up to all my prior expectations, and they sure were huge folks.I believe I have mentioned that this is one of my top vampire romance series ever so was crossing my fingers and toes that this last book would be worthy and it certainly was.

So this was action-packed from page one it really was non-stop throughout. This was such an integral part to Vlad and Leila's onward journey as they undertake the massive feat of attempting to break the spell that is metaphorically holding an axe over both their heads. Vlad is using all his many wiles to extract them both from the predicament they currently find themselves in and he will do and sacrifice anything or anybody to save his beloved Leila she is his whole world.

This book was equal parts amusing but also then heart-wrenching it really was a satisfying conclusion to this ongoing saga. As I said earlier I am sad to be saying goodbye to these two, but do also hope to catch future cameos of them again in future books set in this world.
Also looking forward to getting to know Ian better, he does intrigue me and After the way, his hand evolved here it should be an interesting ride. This was a fantastic series that I highly recommend a five-star experience all the way.

It’s no secret that I love this series and that Vlad and Leila are one of my favorite couples. So to say I was excited to read this book would be a major understatement. Sadly it didn’t live up to my expectations.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Vlad is one of my favorite heroes. Yes he’s controlling, but it’s never bothered me before because that is just who he is and Leila has never let him get away with it. However in this final instalment his desperate need to keep Leila safe made him act like a lunatic. I hated that he kept things from her and that he used his abilities to smother her own powers. That was just unacceptable.

I have always loved Leila, and my favorite thing about her is her determination to stand up to Vlad, to not let him get away with his need for control and his overprotectiveness. But in this book she let him get away with so many unacceptable behaviours. She was too understanding and forgiving for me. I wanted her feistiness and is was sadly lacking. I did like that she became more powerful and that we found out more about her heritage.

I was so excited when I found out that we would see Ian again, since I’ve liked him from the Night Huntress series, but for the most of this book he acted like an immature manwhore which irritated me to no end. It did appear near the end that this was all a front, and I would have liked to see more of the real him. Maximus was another major disappointment. The things he did to ensure Vlad kept Leila safe felt like a betrayal to her and I did not like him at all in this book.

There is nothing that I hate more than the death of a beloved character without it being crucial to the plot and the death here was totally unnecessary in my opinion and upset me greatly. I also did not like the way things ended with the villain.

Overall this book felt unnecessary for Vlad and Leila’s story. It felt more like a filler for future books to come, like Ian’s and Gretchen’s. There were some great romantic moments between Vlad and Leila, but they were overshadowed by the bad. I wish I could unread this one :-(.

It is a sad day when a beloved character from a main series just cannot carry a spin off series. I don’t really blame Vlad, he probably would have done okay in a one book spin off like Spade and Mencheres, I really enjoyed the first book of his series, but this was four books long and there just isn’t a lot of redeeming qualities to the Impaler that I wanted to hang out for extra books.

Also I really struggle with Leila, one minute it seems like I’m going to start to like her but then her stupid inner voice speaks up and I get another glimpse at just how insecure and hypocritical she is. There is a point in this book that she is a little mad at Vlad for leaving her out of something and going off to do ‘a job’ without her. But then she green eyes her sister and does a version of the exact same thing to her. Plus she plans on hiding things from her husband Vlad, since she knows he would sacrifice anyone she loves if it meant saving her. The entire I’d kill anyone in the world for you thing was a bit much.

Thank goodness for Ian in this book. Ian was delightfully sinful and funny and charming and disrespectful and some many other great things. He might play the insipid whore but that is all show and we get to see a little bit of a deeper side to him as well. I loved it, but to be honest I felt like this entire story really was just there to set up a spin-off book for Ian and maybe Gretchen (even though I’m not excited about that at all) and not much else. Veritas also had some good moments and I hear she is Ian’s future love interest. I can’t wait to see how those two are going to mix.

At the end of this I didn’t like Vlad much, Leila can go suck a big one I’m truly pissed at her character in this book, from the way she let Vlad treat her to the way she treated everyone else around her I was not impressed. Also the end, well there really wasn’t a great wrap up there either.

This should have been a 1-2 book spin off and it would have saved me the reader two very painfully read books. Maybe it is just time to shut down the Night Huntress novels and put this baby to rest.

This was great.

Once more Jeaniene Frost has done it. She consistently writes incredible urban fantasy romance.
With this book she kept me engaged from beginning to end. It can't be denied that she knows how to entertain. She gives the perfect balance between action and meaningful love which, in my opinion and experience, seems to be really difficult to find.

I can't wait for her next series.

P.S.: I think that the covers in these series of books devalue the story. I don't think those are fitting here.

Into the Fire is the fourth installment in the amazing Jeaniene Frost's paranormal romance/urban fantasy series titled: Night Prince. For fans of her Night Huntress collection, this spin-off series has been quite the treat. We still get to see most of our favorite characters in a new setting which keeps things lively and fresh. Into the Fire offers Vlad in all his severity which was a welcomed change from the surprising but nonpreferred softness in a few of the others. Vlad's love interest (and wife): Leila keeps growing and growing in her strength which again is a very welcomed addition. As you can tell, I am thoroughly enjoying staying in this engaging world Ms. Frost has so generously created. If you enjoy these genres, I recommend starting from the very beginning. You don't have to though. You can read this series on its own and be fine. Either way, check it out!

My favorite quote:
“There’s more to all of us. Yet most times, we still only see what we expect to see.”

Into the Fire falls into this urban fantasy world as noted below:

0.5-Reckoning
1-Halfway to the Grave
1.5-Happily Never After
2-One Foot in the Grave
2.5-Weddings from Hell

4-Destined for an Early Grave
4.5-One For the Money
5-This Side of the Grave
6-One Grave at a Time
6.5-Home for the Holidays
7-Up from the Grave
7.5-Outtakes from the Grave

Night Huntress World (Spinoff, 2010-present)
1-First Drop of Crimson
2-Eternal Kiss of Darkness

Night Prince (Spinoff, 2012-present)
1-Once Burned
2-Twice Tempted
3-Bound by Flames
4-**Into the Fire**

What should have been a fiery finish to Jeaniene Frost’s NIGHT PRINCE series was a bit of a dud. INTO THE FIRE was all about Ian which made Vlad & Leila the protagonists of this story in name only. Per an FAQ on the author’s website, there’s a spin-off in the works for the former, and I get the need to propagate that message, but this could have been done in a more tasteful manner rather than hijacking Dracula’s happily-ever-after.

I still got a fair amount of enjoyment out of this novel including some good laughs. We learn about the origins of the heroine’s powers, and Mencheres makes an appearance, although the shock factor in relation to his character was a bit of a joke because I didn’t believe for one second that that thing that happened actually did, there’s just no way. That being said, I did get a kick out of the male cast sprouting boobs and totally owning their glamoured disguises.

Vlad & Leila’s fairy tale ending lacked passion—the token sex scene notwithstanding—there were too many secrets between them for a couple who’s supposedly embracing forever together, and the resolution vis-à-vis Mircea was so corny. Frost could have made this into a killer trilogy, but instead book 4 came along, and crapped the bed. This is the lowest rating that I’ve ever given something that was written by this author, and it really makes me sad.

I pre-ordered this audio months before its release because Tavia Gilbert is an experienced narrator whose familiarity with this universe and its inhabitants is beyond measure. She reads Dracula’s parts well without falling into the stereotypical trap that would be all too easy to adopt, and the energy that she brings to the love making bits will leave you blushing and a little jealous. Her voice was the saving grace of this audiobook.

INTO THE FIRE is where your paperback copy should go. However, if you really must, listen instead. ~2.5 Stars

“If I were anyone else, I’d be terrified at pissing off the legendary Vlad Tepesh, meaning “Impaler,” aka Dracula, aka don’t-ever-call-him-Dracula-if-you-want-to-live, but I was Mrs. Vlad Dracul, thank you very much. Uncrowned prince of darkness or no, Vlad wasn’t pulling this crap with me.”

“Who wants to live forever anyway?”
-Ian

“For better or for worse, it’s you and me together, just like in our vows.”
- Leila

“I’d mostly forgiven Vlad, you see, because how can you hate someone for not loving you when that person is too dead inside to love anyone?”
- Mircea

“I know you’re the dragon instead of the knight. And I don’t care. At your best or at your worst, I will always love you, Vlad.”

I wonder how many times I can re-read the previous trio until book 4 arrives? Oh wait, I will never tire of the shower scene in book 1. Hot damn!!

Book 4 was good. Not great. I was initially going to give it four stars and only take one off for the very irritating Leila. However, the book took me a while to read compared to the previous 3, and except for one OMG out loud moment, I wasn't wowed. The story was wrapped up too quickly and a tad too nicely for a series finale in my opinion.

1=horrible
2=just meh
3=good
4=great
5= one of the best books ever, I cannot stop talking about it. Will reread for sure.

So book 4 gets 3 stars.

3 Stars - The Public Library is your friend.

I was so eager for this series finale. It wasn't a bust. There are fun moments and what looked like a couple set-ups for future books and/or novellas. New angles were brought up but not fully explored. I felt like I was left hanging in a couple of plot twists.

Vlad and Leila bounced from one dramatic situation to another. Overall, the story felt disjointed. I wasn't fully immersed in Vlad and Leila as i had been in previous Night Prince books. "Into the Fire" has its moments but I wish I borrowed this from the library.

4.5 stars for this one. I absolutely love Jeaniene Frosts' writing and the world that she has created. This is the conclusion to Vlad and Leilas story. There is a lot going on in this one and it is filled with a cast of characters we have come to love.

I loved this! Lots of action, lots of turmoil, lost hawt Vlad being is typical Alpha male self. The audio of this is absolutely fabulous. The narrator did an awesome job bringing each character to life. Totally helped to keep me engaged to the story because the beginning it took me a few chapters to remember exactly what was going on since it has been a while since the last book was released. Once going over the hurdle it was easy to stay engaged throughout.

Ian is hilariously charming and witty. He made me laugh so much and I was happy to see more of him in this book. Very much excited to get his story and get to know the man underneath the easy going demeanor he puts off.

I gave this audiobook a B+ for the story and A+ for the narration at AudioGals.

Narrated by Tavia Gilbert

Into the Fire is the explosive and magic-defying conclusion to the Night Prince Series (featuring Leila and Vlad) which is itself a spin-off of the Night Huntress Series (featuring Cat and Bones) both of which make up part of the Night Huntress Universe. I have a special place in my heart for the Night Huntress Series as its one of the first series I remember listening to in audio format. I credit the mesmerizing combination of Jeaniene Frost’s creative writing and Tavia Gilbert’s truly talented voice as a part of the reason that I have converted from primarily a reader to an avid audiobook listener today.

The Night Huntress is a series that I binge listened to when I first experimented with audiobooks, though I’ve had to be much more patient with these latest installments in the Night Huntress Universe as there was a full two-year gap between the release of the prior book in this series (see the AudioGals review of Bound by Flames) and this fourth and last book in the Night Prince Series. I must admit that for nearly any other writer/narrator combination, I may have lost interest. However, I’m glad I didn’t in this case because not only do we get to experience the kinetic combination of Vlad and Leila for one last time (though I must admit that the passion in this book was definitely less of a focus than in prior ones), but we are also treated to quite the suspense-filled race against time. It is by listening to Into the Fire that I also have become familiar with what inevitably will be the next spin-off series that will form a part of the Night Huntress Universe, featuring Ian (a vampire who reminds me a lot of Bones and who is sure to lead to lots more fun, UF escapades to come). Additionally, Tavia Gilbert’s narration, as always, was just fabulous – I couldn’t imagine experiencing this story any other way but through Ms. Gilbert’s talented voice.

Leila is running out of time. Her unwanted connection to a necromancer (Mircea) who has intertwined their physical fates is likely to lead to her demise if she, Vlad, and their allies can’t figure out how to break the connection (for she literally feels every injury he sustains and his enemies have caught on to their priceless and extortion enabling connection). The fact that Mircea is also Vlad’s bitter stepson, owing to Mircea’s resentment for never having truly achieved obtaining Vlad’s attention, further adds to the revenge/suspense plot line.

But removing the connection between Leila and Mircea, two vampires and one of which is a necromancer, is no easy task. And Vlad and Leila know that to break the ties they will inevitably need to dabble in witchcraft. Given that witches and vampires rarely mix in this world, they know they have their work cut out for them, so they reach out to Vlad’s sire, Mencheres, for help. Fortunately, Mencheres knows just who to team them up with: Ian. Ian too is a vampire (one who had previously been introduced in the Night Huntress Series but never took center stage until now). Though we get a feeling that there is some bad blood between Vlad and Ian, Vlad decides to play nice in the hopes that Ian can find the powerful witch they need to break the spell. Thus enters Ian into the scene, who ends up stealing the show both with his over-the-top persona as well as by being the start to all new plotlines which will no doubt be resolved in the next spin-off series.

Classic Frost. This was good. I'm not a huge Vlad fan, so I waited a while to read this one. I liked him in Cat and Bones, but not in his own series so much.

I am thrilled Ian might get his own book. I've always liked him. I missed getting even a glimpse of Cat and Bones. Then again they might have taken over the show.

I do think Laila let Vlad off too easily on some of the things he did. I also didn't get worried about their impending danger though some character did do a Game of Thrones exit in this story.

Oh Ian, I feel so awful for him. I wonder where Gretchen will show up.

Overall, I'm excited for this franchise even though this series is over.
