The story is bittersweet. It is an easy read as far as reading level but difficult as far as topic.
It is sad but thankfully has a happy ending which adukys will likely figure out by the illustrations.
The theme is pet abandonment and is gracefully handled by author Tres Seymour. The art which appears to be chalk art is beautifully rendered by Davis Soman.

Sad to start, and a reminder of how STUPID people can be sometimes.

It has a happy ending though, at least.

Pole do is abandoned and left to starve by his... jerk* humans when he gets old. He has to try and survive on his own despite harsh conditions and... jerks* - who try to shoot him for some reason.

*Not the word I want to use for people like this, trust me.

This book made me cry, because it had a happy ending and because it is really a true story too often. Wonderful illustrations and well written.
