“According to Jung, the most basic archetype is the circle—complete, perfect, without beginning or end. In the form of the Hindu mandala, a circular emblem often containing pictures of various deities, it represents the totality of the universe. Pictured in the ancient symbol of the ouroborus, a snake biting its tail, it symbolizes eternity. ‘There is an old saying,’ Jung wrote, ‘that God is a circle whose center is everywhere and the circumference nowhere. In many instances, he pointed out, the divine circle is envisioned as radiating fire and light. Most flying saucers, true to their name, are said to be circular in shape—and often glowing.”
