Miss Abbie Bain has no dowry, no hopes, and no husband. She is one-and-twenty and her prospects are bleak. Her father ruined her family, financially and socially, and died in a scandal of consumption. She is down on her luck, to say the least. Then, to Abbie and Mrs. Mamie Bain’s surprise, they receive an invitation from His Grace, Brigadier Zack Dogan, Duke of Sommer. He has invited them to a ball at his castle.
Mamie thinks it is a trick, but they are admitted to the ball… Only to be humiliated by Lady Carol Ollivander, an old friend-turned-enemy. Abbie fears that she had been shunned from society, when His Grace himself comes to her rescue. To her shock, he reveals that he invited her to the party to ask for her hand in marriage. The Bains cannot think to refuse, but soon after the marriage, His Grace leaves her for five months.
Upon his return, Abbie must try and penetrate his cold, icy exterior and reveal the shy, uncertain man within.
I only made it through two of the stories. They were not well thought out and unbelievable in many areas. Strangers met a nd fall in love in a day. They talk of Christian beliefs but a married woman kiss a man whose not her husband. It's story line was ridiculous and unbelievable in both stor
It seemed almost like these short stories were written by students in a Historical Romance Creative Workshop class. Same topic/premise in each story some with a slightly different spin, but for the most part identical. Very disappointing, each story was worse than the one before it. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend it.
