Everyone's heard the Greek myth about Theseus and the monstrous Minotaur - but not many people know that he also had to defend himself against an axe-wielding innkeeper, hordes of pirates and a treacherous uncle as well as escaping the clutches of the Queen of the Underworld.
Sir Tony Robinson is an English actor, comedian, amateur historian, TV presenter, author and political activist. He is known for playing "Baldrick" in the BBC television series Blackadder and for hosting Channel 4 programmes such as Time Team and The Worst Jobs in History.
Maybe not as many jokes as Robinson's Odysseus had but still has some laugh out loud moments. I recommend the audiobook so you get the experience of him having the time of his life with all the voices.
My dad read this to me when I was little (probably sparking my love of Greek mythology). It's a brilliant retelling of the story of Theseus - it's gory and thrilling, and it's made more interesting by the occasional textual device (like spreading the words across the page or writing "upside-down" upside down) and onomatopoeia. I don't think it's in print any more, which is a shame.
