The story is interesting enough, but every single character is either totally perfect or totally evil. The writing is like a second grader wrote it, except for the parts with completely unnecessary (and sometimes boring) medical information. I'll keep reading the series, but only because it makes me feel better about my own writing. Seriously, the writing is horrible.

I thought I would like this because the main character is an ICU nurse and I usually like LDS fiction.

This book was horrible! It was like reading a cross between Anita Stansfield and a 2nd grader!

I really liked this book, it made me read Revelations and ponder on the seals of time. I really enjoyed it! I think it would be better if I didn't have so many disruptions while reading it.

I love Wendie's writing style and each chapter footnotes. A powerful story of a family trying to do what's right in a crazy world. I'm already reading the next book in this series.

I really wanted to like this one and get into a new series, but after finding 3 obvious spelling and grammar errors in the first couple chapters of the Kindle version (your vs you're and more) I couldn't get into the story because I found myself proofreading instead of reading for enjoyment. I also didn't enjoy the author's writing style or the fact that most of the characters had names that I'm not sure how to pronounce. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because I feel guilty giving an LDS book 1 star.

This book takes place sometime in the future when some of the signs of the times are happening before Christ's Second Coming. Corrynne is a nurse and a mom to ten children. There are problems with raves and gangs throughout the world and Corrynne's neighborhood. She sees some of the negative effects of these things through her profession as people get hurt. Corrynne starts to uncover some hidden meanings with what's going on at these raves and tries to do everything she can to protect her children and society at large.
The book was entertaining, and I liked the characters and their struggle to remain righteous in a morally declining world. The only negative I can say about it is that almost every conversation with the kids or between the kids is set up to have to do with the raves and what's going on at them. There really weren't many conversations that just had to do with kids talking about random kid things or any other subject at all really, so that aspect of the book wasn't quite believable for me. However, I would still recommend it and plan on reading the other books in the series.

With long series, I tend to write a review for just the first one unless there is something outstanding about subsequent books. In this case, I think one review will do it. I love these books. For reasons I don't really understand, I enjoy relgious-based, end-of-the-world books. I am fasinated by how authors interpret the events predicted in scriptural text in our modern-day world. Edwards does a tremondous body of research for her books, everything is very-well documented (which is cool in a fictional series). I gave all her books between 4-5 stars because not only did I enjoy them, I found the depth shown in her characters to be outstanding and her plot lines unique and plausible. I'm not going to give a whole summary here but these books are worth reading, particulary if you are interested in theology and events surrouding the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. These books are by an LDS author with a clear LDS interpretation, so if you disagree with LDS beliefs, this may not be the best pick for you. I feel I am more picky with LDS-authored books but found these to be very well-done and interesting.

Cry, laugh, get educated and entertained! Amazing book series, people who fault a visionary work for a few typos are missing the point...there is no other contender for "last days" LDS historical fiction. Writing about the "end days" AND keeping in line with scriptures and latter day prophecy in NO EASY TASK! Hurrah for Wendie L. Edwards! I have read a lot of fiction and fantasy novels and this IS very good. Wendy keeps it interesting like J.K., but while sharing information that is much more relevant than Hogwarts! Wendie has done the hard research for you, and also gives it to you in copious footnotes if you don't trust her. This is the kind of information that may lead to your temporal and spiritual survival in the near future, AND it is entertaining...what could be more worth your reading time than that?

This is an 8 book series (#8 just came out) and I've really, really loved them! They are fiction set in the latter days (around now) about a family but is very much based on doctrine about the happenings of the latter days. There is an incredible amount of scripture research in the books with references given after each chapter. It's compelling, insightful and personally has taught me a lot. Not only is the scripture research worth the read but I equally enjoyed the fiction storyline about a family preparing and going through latter day events. This is such a fantastic series...don't miss it but set aside some time because once you get going you won't want to stop!

This series seems to be kind of like an LDS attempt to rewrite the Left Behind series. I've only read this first book of the series and will say it is somewhat typical of any other LDS fiction you've ever read. It was entertaining but seemed to lack any kind of real human complexity that draw me to characters and help me identify with them. You've got your Mormon characters who are of course absolutely righteous in their imperfect way, then you've got your bad guy who seems to know that he is absolutely a servant of Satan and doesn't care. I probably would like the story a lot better if I weren't such a cynical adult :)

I enjoyed this book but I have to admit it got heavy a few times, especially at the beginning, as you contemplate the latter-days and the signs of the Savior's 2nd Coming. It really makes you think about our current time period and the many things that we see happening today that are fulfilling what has been prophesied. It is important not to let this book and its topic over whelm you. I really enjoy and appreciate all the scriptural, medical and world news items that the author puts in her story to back it up with evidence and knowledge, not just hearsay. Its a good story/topic but I find I can't read it just before bed, it is better for me to read in the light of the day!!!

I found the author's ideas of what it will be like in the last days before Christ returns to be interesting and insightful. I love that she uses chapter endnotes to let the reader better understand why she wrote what she did and to do their own reasearch, if they desire. She started this series after reading the Left Behind series, written about what the last days of earth might be like from an evangelical Christian point of view, using revelations from the Bible. She wanted to write something like that from an LDS point of view, using all known scriptures, and this series is the result.

This book is great. I puts things in my life in perspective. I dunno. It is about the signs of the time and it follows a family through them. It totally made me realize that I need to teach my children as much as I can and become their friend that they can always turn to. Their is so much evil out there and it is scary. We need to prepare our little ones now!! This is the 1st of I am not sure how many. I know I have three but I think there is more.

The only reason I even finished this book was because I felt a little (only a little) invested in the characters, and because I liked all the "signs of the times" the author listed in the book.
This felt very preachy with TONS of scriptural references (which I actually liked), but was too awkward. The footnotes started to drive me crazy before I even finished the first chapter.
I am still undecided about reading the rest of the series (there are 6 more books).

This series is about the last days. Giving a very interest protrail of the last days making you think about your need to perpare for these days. Like the Work and the glory she has put together a fictional family and put them into the middle of the facts about about what is coming. allow you to put yourself into the place of the family. however the best part is the notes and references at the end of each chapter.

excitement for the unknown and conspiracy/futurism lends a little bit of leg to the latest "end of days" series. it centers around a family. When the dad confronts the antichrist, however, it seemed less heroic than cheesy. Dont get me wrong..the idea and story is fun and compelling...but man, this family is TOO perfect...my kids NEVER listen. I will, liking to see how this compares to the "left behind" series, am eager to continue on

Wendie endeavors to weave a story about a family living in the last days of the earth, and all of the trials they encountered, backing up her experiences that she wrote with tons of research from the scriptures and modern day revelation. At the end of every chapter, she had scriptures and quotes from General Authorities of the LDS church that helped to enlighten me. All of her books were an extremely interesting read.

I like reading "end of the world" fiction. This book is laced with Latter Day Saint doctrine and there are numerous footnotes included that refer to Scripture and to quotes from LDS prophets and church authorities. It was a fast read which is good because there are 10 volumes in this series. The story line was interesting and kept me turning pages. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

My first experience with Wendie's writing style and it definitely won't be my last. I love the research she has done, and now that I have read all of the series, until the new one is released in September 2009, it has only gotten better, even have my Dad chomping at the bit for the next one to come. That is saying a lot. Really good reading!2008

Did not love the writing style but loved the Story! I have heard that her writing style gets better as the series goes on so I am looking forward to that. I LOVED the afters note of each chapter! What amazing research Wendie has done. There are quotes from church leaders and scriptures and other great information. It has made me want to go back and study Revelations and the Last days futher.

A Latter-day Saint fictional view of events leading up to the Second Coming of Christ to the earth. Impressive use of scripture references. Plotting was sometimes forced, sometimes cluttered, but sometimes it worked. I will pursue the series. I just wish I knew how to pronounce one of the twins' names: Striynna???

Well documented and researched; this is the first LDS apocalyptic novel/series I've read that I would suggest to others. Although the pace was a bit contrived, and I kept stumbling over her choice of character names, this played out eerily similar to my own what-if scenarios. It's interesting to gat another perspective.

Seriously one of the worst examples of LDS literature I have ever read. It was clearly attempting to be an LDS version of the Left Behind series. Completely unbelievable and unrelateable. Poorly written, with hollow, wooden characters.
I read the first three of the series and was too sickened to continue, though I admit to a morbid curiosity as to how it ends.

I'm impressed that there are footnotes. The author seems to have put a lot into her research. The character names certainly seemed to have that odd Utah flavor. Some of the conversation was awkward to me. However, in all, I liked the story, found it thought provoking, and I plan to spend more time looking up the scriptures.

Fun and gripping. I loved it.
It is about the second comming and the trials that could come and how a family (the Rogers) try to over come and survive. A new sickness has sprung up and there are many who believe in the beasts.

The author uses scripture, quotes from church leaders, current informational websites or articles to back up her fictional story of the last days. This approach makes the story very believable, because there is a reliable witness to the situations.

Not my favorite writing style and a little dissappointed that I read it a few years too late. Some of the "future" technology has already advanced beyond and is no longer futuristic. However, I like the series and have continued to read them.

I enjoyed the book and want to continue the series, however, I hated some of the stupid, made up names the author chose for some of the characters. I can not stand names that are stupid and creatively spelled. ugh
