selectively read aloud with L&C. Kind of outdated with many references to “our primordial-soup origins” but lots of fun experiments to emphasize the lessons of each chapter.
This is a great book for kids to learn about how their body works. I loved it, and I'm not even a kid! I loved how they explained it in simple terms and a fun way for kids to learn. I also loved the experiments that they had in here. We tried a few and it was lots of fun. I learned a lot from this book and had fun doing it. This is a great addition to any classroom library for those teachers out there! My children's literature teachers suggested it to me.
We used a few of the ideas/experiments here, but definitely not all. We enjoyed what we did do. I liked how there were explanations as to why things worked the way they did.
I found that most of the books that we read had similar ideas at the back so we didn't use this as much as I thought we would.
Excellent! A few of the fun facts are outdated but not enough to ruin any of the experiments or overall information. Gives awesome tips for laypeople or those on a tight budget (ie all us teachers!) on accessing or making tools and materials. Can't wait to use these to supplement my Blood & Guts camp!
We started reading this today with The Usborne Internet-linked Complete Book of the Human Body. It is scheduled to be read by topic covered. We are incorporating this with internet link and notebooking.
Ummm, the activities in this book go a bit beyond what this homeschool mom was willing to do. Like go to your local butcher and ask for a cow liver to dissect. Not. The text was interesting and we did do the activities that didn't require a scalpel.
