This is fourth in a series that I haven't read much of (having bounced off of the first). I wanted this one because Riley and Savannah keep cropping up in a series I'm kinda-enjoying. So I knew I'd have people and relationships I didn't know about and was okay with that. Which is a good thing because Riley and Savannah spend a couple of weeks with his family at home and that means we got to see the three other happy couples being happy couples. So if you're reading this on your own, it's likely best to read them in order.

So this was pretty good, I think. Mostly. Riley was way less idealized than I expected seeing as he plays the relationship guru with his bandmates. I enjoyed seeing the at-heart good guy be a bit blind to his flaws (because nobody wants to tell the rich famous guy he has them) and tackle them honestly as he could. And I liked Savannah coming in all prejudiced but being honest enough to turn that around once she could see she had been wrong. It was a good dynamic and having her there to interview him for a magazine article was a decent source of friction, even if both only ever really paid it lip-service.

I was a little worried when the I-love-yous had been spoken and they were in a really good place and we still had a third of the story to go (we didn't really but I didn't know that*). And I was right to be, it turns out. Dark moments can be powerful and there's a reason lots of romances include them. Unfortunately, not many do them well. This story had two aspects often included in dark moments that don't work for me. One is coming after the "I love you". This is a betrayal of trust that I really, really hate. If you can't even stick around for a conversation then you are immature, emotionally stunted, or a liar. Second is when it goes on longer than a few days. Look, anyone can screw up and make a mistake. I get not being able to have the conversation right away. But after a day, maybe two, of cooling-off time, if you aren't there ready to talk, then I honestly don't know what to do with you. It breaks my sympathy, every time.

So this ends up with 3½ stars that I'm rounding down because all the friction just added up for me—not least the stupid length shenanigans I'll get to here shortly.

A note about Steamy: There are no flat-out explicit sex scenes. But there's enough naked time with just enough detail that I'm tagging it Steamy. It's a very low steam, however, barely any at all. Because the author pulls back before the details. This works well in this story because their emotional intimacy is very well-established before we get to the bedroom hijinks.

* Length shenanigans. This book ends at the 77% point. So nearly a quarter of this book isn't this book. All of the author's books have done this but I always forget come review time. This one was particularly bad. 77%?!? That seems excessive to me. I mean, I'm all freaking out that the "I love yous" hit at around 63%. I wouldn't have been nearly so freaked out if I had known that translates to 81% in actual page count. Okay, I'd have still been worried. Just not as much...

Entertainment reporter, Savannah, is tasked with bringing Rockstar Riley Shaughnessy’s story to print. Known for her ability to dig deep to the find real person under the persona Riley is apprehensive to say the least. Demanded by his label, Riley reluctantly agrees to the article. Riley’s been in a funk but the spunky Savannah might just be the distraction he needs.

Savannah Daly new Riley was something special to stand out in his family but she isn’t impressed with his Rockstar status when she is the one woman Riley really wants to impress.

This is Our Song was a sweet as pie tale (well as sweet as pie a rockstar tale can be), with mouthwatering romantic chemistry and heart felt emotions. Well balanced with plot, romance, friends and family, I found This Is Our Song a great book to curl up with.

I received this ARC copy of This Is Our Song from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication December 06, 2016.

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

You know, I think I liked it better when you said stuff I couldn't understand. This getting right to the point is kind of hurtful.

That was fun... I'm telling you some of the greatest moments of my day come when I get to freak my husband out... Sometimes I blame it on pregnancy hormones, other times it's just for my own amusement.

My Review:

I have enjoyed this series and continue to be more than a bit in love with this complicated family. Riley was a famous rock star working on his first solo attempt, but he had been floundering after losing his muse following a disappointing and embarrassing media drubbing/snubbing and had been struggling with more than a bruised ego for nearly a year. He was not eager to jump onboard when his record label pressured him to submit to an in-depth feature article, well, that was, until he met the intriguing and sexy journalist. Gear up for family banter, humor, steam, angst, heart squeezes, and a chance to catch up with the rest of that prodigious Shaughnessy clan.

This story had a good prologue and got off to a fun start with a nice plot but their first fight seemed phony and thereafter things were too pat and unrealistic with lots of thoughts. The ending was dramatic but predictable. Reporter Savannah grudgingly accepts an assignment to interview and do an article on rock star Riley who is in a slump.

REVIEW: THIS IS OUR SONG is the fourth installment in Samantha Chase’s THE SHAUGHNESSY BROTHERS romance series focusing on the Shaughnessy family. This is rock star Riley Shaughnessy, and entertainment reporter Savannah Daly’s story line. THIS IS OUR SONG can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

SOME BACKGROUND: Seventeen years earlier the Shaughnessy’s lost their mother to a drunk driver that left six siblings (including a one year old infant) without a mother. Fast forward to present day where the now adult children continue to struggle with the loss. Riley’s connection to his mother is blessed with musical memories and an endearing song.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Riley and Savannah) THIS IS OUR SONG focuses on struggling rock star Riley Shaughnessy. Going solo should have been easy but one year earlier a scathing article debunking Riley’s stardom hit too close to home and our hero struggles to complete his latest album. To keep Riley in the spotlight, his publicist demands he willingly participates in a magazine interview that will find our hero falling in love with the entertainment reporter. Enter Savannah Daly-a journalist who goes into the interview with preconceived notions about Riley Shaughnessy, and a woman who battles her attraction to the man that calls to her heart.

Riley is a world famous rock star whose solo career has come to a grinding halt. Unable to complete his latest album Riley’s recording contract is in jeopardy-writer’s block and a fractured ego add to Riley’s list of personal demons. Savannah is a journalist who is reluctant to participate in Riley’s comeback. Entering into the Shaughnessy circle of family and friends finds our heroine falling in love with the Shaughnessy family and the man who will steal her heart. But Riley and Savannah’s future lies in jeopardy when the past catches up and fractures the building love between our leading couple. The $ex scenes are implied and fade to black.

All of the Shaughnessy brothers and sister Darcy, as well as patriarch Ian Shaughnessy and his girlfriend Martha play secondary and supporting roles. The Shaughnessy family continues to grow, and the next generation is close at hand.

THIS IS OUR SONG is a sweet, romantic story of family and love; struggle and moving forward; forgiveness and letting go of the past. The premise is heartwarming; the characters are passionate; the romance is intimate without the use of sexual imagery or text. Samantha Chase’s THE SHAUGHNESSY BROTHERS is will captivate your imagination.

I liked this one, but I didn't love it. And, at first I wasn't sure why. But after thinking about it, there were parts of the story where I didn't totally believe the characters. Not badly enough to stop reading, not badly enough to give the book a bad rating...but just enough that it kept me from loving the story as much as I thought I was going to.

I liked Riley and Savannah, although I am not sure I believed them completely. He seemed a little unsure of himself for being a rockstar, which I get was the point. And, I thought the idea that Savannah was a major enough writer at her magazine to get this story...but in danger of being fired if she didn't write the story...well, it didn't follow for me.

Other than this, I enjoyed the writing, the characters and the storyline. I think I was just a little pulled out of the story by those small issues and it stayed with me for the story.

I do recommend this book, it is well worth the time to read it.

Samantha Daly is an entertainment reporter and only knows Riley Shaughnessy by his bad boy rock star persona. And now her boss has sent her on the road with him to do a big magazine spread for her magazine. Riley has set out on a solo career after a very successful career with his band. He's had a serious case of writer's block and is doubting whether he will ever finish his solo album. He's not too keen on having a reporter follow him around. Then a chance meeting before they meet up to discuss details leads them down a completely different path than either of them expected. This was a great book with a great ending. I'm going to have to go back and read the first three books in this series.

Sweet, sexy & delightful!

He was a living, breathing fantasy. Her own rock and roll fantasy at that! And every minute of every day it was getting more and more difficult to ignore the attraction brewing between them.

Samantha Chase gives legendary rock-star Riley Shaughnessy his own happy-ever-after in This Is Our Song. The book’s leading lady is entertainment reporter Savannah Daly. The couple’s entertaining story takes place on two coasts - in both California and North Carolina.
Even though this is the fourth installment in the series, This Is Our Song can be fully enjoyed as a standalone as the romantic relationship is fully contained within this novel. I’m betting that once you read This Is Our Song, you will want to catch up with the series. Each book has been a page-turner.

As the story opens, we learn that Riley Shaughnessy is struggling. He’s hit a brick wall while working on songs for his solo album. For the first time in his life, the music isn’t there for Riley. Regardless, Riley is being pressured by his manager and his record label to get the album done. His manager decides that Riley needs a cathartic push to break the frustrating creative funk he is experiencing. So… the manager sets up a month-long stint with an entertainment reporter for Rock The World magazine with a promised extensive multi-episode end product. Riley doesn’t care for reporters and doesn’t need nor want the interference now.
Savannah Daly doesn’t like Riley or Riley’s band. She believes Riley to be like other rock stars she’s written about - a spoiled rich brat. When her boss tells her in no uncertain terms he’s pulling her off a story she really wanted, to do a story on Riley Shaughnessy, she’s understandably upset.
Riley is my new book boyfriend. He’s a normal guy who just happens to be a rock star. AND he loves his family. He and Savannah had chemistry galore and I really enjoyed watching them grow to understand that they were perfect for each other. Just don’t expect smooth sailing along the way.

The love and caring of family ties plays a very important part in this story as every Shaughnessy in the close-knit family is a supporting character. The Shaughnessys may play and tease each other but, when push comes to shove, the Shaughnessys have each other’s back.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from This Is Our Song:

Sometimes you can miss out on something amazing by being in a hurry.
---
Her eyes widened as he stalked her from across the kitchen.
“There is no way I can ignore you – it’s impossible. Just like it would be impossible to stop breathing.” And then, because he figured they were already fighting, he might as well poke the bear a little more. So he grabbed her and kissed her. Hard. Wet. And wild.
---
“What is it you want, Savannah?” His voice was so low it was almost a growl.
She looked up at his face finally as she licked her lips. He was going to make her say the words – to tell him why she was up here, knocking on his door and ogling him like the world’s greatest treat.
“You,” she said, her voice barely audible.

As far as favorite scenes, the whole book is teeming with them. From the laughable moment Riley and Savannah first met on Hermosa Beach to the awesome epilogue. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Riley’s haircut. See… before Savannah became a reporter, she was a hair stylist. At one point, Riley had to make a public appearance and he’d forgotten to get his hair cut. Savannah stepped in to save the day… in an unforgettable way. Riley said it best:
“That was the hottest haircut ever.”

Owen Shaughnessy, Riley’s twin, is very different from Riley, but very close to him also. Owen is super smart, but socially awkward. I’m thinking that the next book, A Sky Full of Stars, is Owen’s story, since Owen’s expertise is astrophysics and that is the branch of space science that explains the birth, life and death of stars. In addition, Owen is the only brother whose story remains untold. We are just lacking Owen’s and that of the brothers’ sister, Darcy. I’m sharing the following excerpt to illustrate how closely the twins are intertwined:
His phone rang and when he saw his twin brother’s face on the screen, Riley nearly sagged with relief. Before he could say hello, Owen was talking.
“As a scientist, it’s hard for me to accept this twin telepathy, yet I found myself driven to call you because I felt you were really sad. Are you okay?”
Riley smiled and sat on the couch and relaxed. “Come on…you mean to tell me after all these years you doubt the telepathy thing? I would have thought you’d be anxious to run experiments on us.”

This Is Our Song is sweet, sexy and delightful and an enjoyable read from beginning to end. I would recommend This Is Our Song to anyone who enjoys cute and fun contemporary romances.

Riley Shaughnessy is a a musician that has separated from his band to try to make it big with his own solo album. He can write his own songs, perform and make it big by himself...except he has a mental block that is to the point the label wants him gone. Unless he interviews with a magazine (which he really doesn't want to do) and gives them something to feed off of until his album is finished and released. Riley decides to buy time, he will give his label the interview they want...but his way.

Savannah Daly has been plucked from being a hairdresser to be a reporter. She has worked her way up the ranks and receives the story opportunity that she hopes will be her big breakthrough. Until the Shaughnessy piece comes along and she is assigned it. Being told she is the only one that will peel back the layers of this closed off rocker and dig deep, getting the real story, she unreluctantly accepts the position (a little peeved - but still accepts). Running off to blow off steam, who else does she run into, but the exact person she is supposed to digging deeper into. Hmmmmmm....perfect opportunity or huge mishap?

Riley immediately is alive seeing Savannah. After being so closed off for so long, this is what he truly needs. And playing with her through the interview process, hoping for more, means both get to toy with each other; but who exactly is the cat and who is the mouse?! Throughout the book, the two help each other to live, and let go of the past, realizing that the future is what is the most important.

This was one of the sweetest reads I have read in a long time. Samantha Chase weaves a web that sucks her readers in; a web that I truly didn't want to leave. The two dig into each other, finding the best, and sucking the reader in, completely and totally. The plot was wonderful, the characters very well developed, and loved seeing these two develop! Another great read in the The Shaughnessy Brothers Series!

ARC provided with no expectations.

I have a confession to make: I had very little interest in this book and only planned to read it because I've read the others in the series and I'm waiting impatiently for Owen's book. (I LOVE OWEN SHAUGHNESSY. He's got more scenes in this one than all the others so far, yay!) ANYWAY, maybe it's because I had rather low expectations, but I was so pleasantly surprised by this one and it's the best one of the series yet.

Riley is a wonderful hero. As the book opens, he's struggling to write a solo album. It's important that this album be a success because he's feeling irrelevant and in danger of being a total flop outside of his band. Clearly his ego took a big hit when he was cut from some big name rock documentary--this comes up in the book A LOT--but he's also depressed and incredibly anxious about his inability to write music.

Enter Savannah! I really liked her as well. She's a newbie to the fictional equivalent of Rolling Stone and she's pissed when her boss takes her off a Coldplay story and tells her she has a month to interview Riley for a multi-issue story. Savannah thinks he's a "pretty boy rock star" and she's not a fan at all, so that's even more bad news.

They meet by chance at a restaurant in LA, and while Savannah recognizes him, he has no idea who she is. But he's got a serious case of insta-lust going on. She then saves him from a mob of female fans and introduces herself. They bicker and he realizes she thinks he's a spoiled untalented rock star. The next day, she arrives at his house to begin the interview and Riley begins his campaign to get Savannah to like him.

This is not a slow burn romance. Because of the interview, they are in very close proximity to each other and this creates a kind of accelerated intimacy and friendship. I've complained in the past about the fade to black love scenes in Chase's books because there's always lots of build up and sexual tension and then...nothing. It's not that I need graphic sex in all my romance novels (I read some with kisses only!) but it's odd to have like...half a love scene. I always think a well-written love scene can reveal a lot about the relationship between the two MCs. But the closed bedroom door nature of the love scenes here didn't bother me as much because they develop a strong relationship that's not just sex. They talk for hours, days on end, first in LA and then in NC when he takes her to meet his entire family. It was great to encounter the rest of the Shaughnessy clan (Owen!!). This book works as a standalone but the sheer number of secondary characters may be confusing if you haven't read the previous books.

Despite the plot revolving around a frustrated rock star who is under pressure to finish his first solo album and a journalist for a music magazine on assignment to learn more about him and what's going on in his life since his band went on hiatus indefinitely, this didn't really feel like a Rock Star Romance. Sure, there's the songwriting (never any lyrics though, sigh of relief) and the musings on fame and blah blah but Riley just feels like an average guy most of the time. That's a plus in my book.

I would recommend this one regardless of whether you read the first 3 in the series. But I need Owen's book like...yesterday! I was really disappointed that the sneak peak at the end is a spinoff book about one of Riley's bandmates! :sad face:

This Is Our Song
Samantha Chase
5 rockstar love stars

Seriously, if you can write a story that makes me laugh, makes me cry and well leave me wanting more, then hello 5 stars. This Is My Song is worth every one of those stars.

Riley Shaughnessy is in a huge flunk, unable to move forward in his solo career after splitting from his rock group, his manager and friend has suggested an interview for a magazine. Not looking forward to it but having not many other choices, Riley decides to meet with Savannah. He never expected that her presence would do more for him than anybody ever has, this includes his family.

Savannah Daly has just been told she is off to interview Riley Shaughnessy, rockstar God, but to her he’s another singer with to much attitude and not much else. With the interview setup and 1 month to get it done, Savannah gets to work on this man. As it was for Riley, she could never see the impact he would have on her life. While getting a in depth look into Riley, his music career and the delightful Shaughnessy family who have so much love for each other, Savannah will become privy to some of Riley‘s deepest darkest secrets, the music that haunts him and the future he wishes for.

Together the pair who were against each other in the beginning will become the glue that will recreate Riley‘s lost music while creating new memories. But with the perfection of working together, living together and loving together, pasts will come back and destroy the couple. Giving into their attraction and the chemistry that was off the charts should have been easy, and it was until the real world comes back to ruin them.

2 pigheaded people, and huge family and a twin who will do anything to see there brother happy. Riley will finally be the one being directed instead of the instigator, as Ian, Hugh, Anna, Zoe, Owen, Quinn and Darcy push Riley to return to Savannah. The past cannot destroy their future, but will it all be to late when he once again hits the big league without his Savannah. She is the reason he got his groove back and she should be there to help him reap the rewards.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I'm not huge on books staring singers and rock stars so I would have passed on this story if it wasn't part of a series I already love. Passing would have had me missing out on a wonderful story.

Savannah is a reporter and she is pulled off a prime assignment to interview Riley, who is taking a break from his band to make a solo album. Savannah is no fan of Riley's but once they meet the really click. Riley comes up with the idea of taking Savannah to meet and interview his family, hoping they can run interference and help him keep him from acting on his feelings.

I loved hanging out with this couple, they were fun. The night they spend at Riley's house in his games room is my idea of a perfect date. It was also great to spend more time with the Shaughnessy clan. The changes to Ian, the patriarch, has the family a little uncomfortable and it is quite amusing. I was particularly thrilled with the time we got to spend with Owen and I can't wait until he gets is own book.

If you are after a traditional romance that is funny, sexy but with no descriptive scenes, and will melt your heart, I'd recommend This is Our Song.

Out of all of Samantha Chase's amazing books, THIS IS OUR SONG is my absolute favorite!!! The Shaughnessys are my surrogate family, I want to be one so badly! Hooking up with Riley would be my dream, but he is taken by the simply wonderful, Savannah.

Riley knew he had everything going for him in his musical world. As front man of one of the world's most famous bands, SHAUGHNESSY, he had everything and everyone at his beck and call. When he decided to embark on his solo project and froze, he panicked.

Savannah knew she was a great reporter, but only had the desire to write and report on folks in the music industry who spoke to her spirit, and Riley Shaughnessy wasn't on that list.

When Riley and Savannah are thrown together in a professional capacity, it isn't long before their attraction, flirtation, friendship and frivolous fun have them realizing that their connection might be much more personal than they bargained for…especially when they journey home to see Riley's family in North Carolina!

Memories of the past make incredible characters in Samantha's Shaughnessy Brothers Series on their own merits. Rest assured the memories in this perfect book had me in tears.

So yes, you must indulge in this sexy, musical escape and lose yourself in the delicous Riley!! Thank you so much, Samantha Chase, for executing a perfect story!!!!!

I can't get enough of this series and I absolutely love Riley!

Riley is the entertainer of the family. Rock Star. Always in the spotlight and suddenly not really enjoying all of the acclimation. As he sees his brother's lives changing by falling in love, he starts to wonder what it is that he's missing in his own life. Plus the writer's block that he's in is not helping him at all.

Enter Savannah Daily. She's a hard hitting entertainment reporter who has been assigned to follow Riley for a month, get the in depth interview that people want. The only problem is that she doesn't like the guy and that could be a major problem.

But as Riley and Savannah start to hang out, both start to see that what's on the outside of a personal facade isn't always what's underneath the surface.

Savannah and Riley were perfection together. I loved every minute of this book. The push and pull between these two was delicious. Riley needed someone to stand up to him and be honest and Savannah pulls no punches. All the while the sassy reporter starts to let down her guard around the charming Riley - but will he be able to handle everything that comes with dating someone in the press?

Such a great book and great series. Part of my top reads for 2016!

ARC Review: This is Our Song (The Shaughnessy Brothers) by Samantha Chase

Overpowering, possessive and sensitive. What else would be expected from a Shaughnessy. They are over achievers who live life to the fullest and love as hard as they work. Riley has all of these traits with an extra dose of charisma and insecurity that he keeps close to the vest, but when Savannah walks into his world and takes up residence in his heart, his sensors hit overdrive really fast. There are a number of reasons why I go fanatic over Ms. Chase's stories, mainly her family inspired tales. She does something I have not seen many authors do. Exposes the drama slowly from the inside out. In my experience that gives an easier understanding of who the character is. Riley is a rockstar but all the fame in the world does not make up for the heartbreaking loss he still struggles with. The measure of a man is not the secrets he keeps but the vulnerabilities he exposes. That is what makes connecting with Riley relatable to me as a reader.

Another amazing story in this series! Riley by far is the most charismatic of the Shaughnessy family and while each of the family was affected by the loss of his mother, Riley had a very special place in his heart for her. She was the one that always encouraged his music. She believed in him no matter what. So this latest bout of writers block is hard for him to deal with. He's always had music. If that leaves him what does he have left?? Savannah Daly is a reporter who has interviewed all sorts of musicians. Riley Shaughnessy isn't anything special to her. In fact, she questions his true talent. Now though she has been given a month long assignment to get to know him and write a behind the scenes type story. Spending time with Riley shows her parts of him she never would have guessed existed. The attraction between them is strong but getting involved with him would be wrong. Or would it??

Definitely a recommended read!

I really like Riley, he had a possessive streak in him, “there’s nothing cold about it. We are involved. We’re dating. Seeing each other.” He kissed her deeply before raising his head and saying, “You’re mine.” Riley doesn't like being told no, “I prefer you to come home with me now,” he growled, hauling her into his arms and kissing her. “I’ve had far too many fantasies about making love to you in my bed for me to have to wait another day.” I really enjoyed this book, I loved Riley, and Savannah was perfect for him.

I loved this book, just as I've loved the other books in the series so far. The Shaughnessy family just grows on you and you can't help but love them all. This was a sweet love story between Riley, a rock musician, and Savannah, an entertainment reporter tasked with writing an article on Riley and his journey to a new solo album.

They meet unexpectedly before they officially begin the article interview process and it's a 'meet cute' type meeting. There was definitely an instant attraction between these two, but of course that changes once Riley finds out that Savannah is the intrusive reporter who will be writing his story. He's struggling to write songs for his solo album debut and his record label is tired of waiting. The magazine article is a way to help shed some positive media attention no Riley, but he's against it at this point since he's in a bad place with his career.

Riley is a good guy though; he's not your typical rock star, he's just having some difficulties getting the music written that's in his head. Savannah really didn't like Riley before they met, but now she sees that he's not the self-centered rocker she assumed he was and he's growing on her. They really try to fight their attraction to each other, so Riley decides to head back home to NC to have his family serve as a distraction from Savannah. Of course, it doesn't work, only makes this worse and they give into their urges and begin a relationship. They try to keep it hidden for a while, but of course his family isn't stupid and quickly figure out that he has feelings for Savannah.

The Shaughnessy family brings Savannah right into the fold, despite just having met her. I loved that they could see the good in her and accepted her right away. They really are a great family - they definitely have their quirks and arguments like any family, but they truly value family, life and time with one another and I love that about this group.

Things were going so smoothly for Riley & Savannah that I didn't see how something could go wrong, but of course it does and Riley blows up and says some mean things. It takes a while, but in the end, they get their HEA. And I cried during the concert scene at the end. It was incredibly sweet and heartwarming. There wasn't much I didn't like about Riley and when he sang, he just melted my heart even more.

Now I can't wait to get to Owen's story next. He's an interesting character - shy, quiet, incredibly smart, a bit quirky and reserved, so it should be a good one.

This is Our Song
The fourth book in the series.
I really liked this story.
Riley and Savannah start out as, not so much enemies, but they really don’t care for each other much. As with a lot of things, you should never judge something without getting all the information to make that decision.
These two characters are about a atypical in their chosen professions as you can get.
Riley is a rock star. A rock star with a conscious. He has feelings and doesn’t hide how he feels. He truly cares what others think of him. He doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. He deeply loves his family, and genuinely likes spending time with them. As the story opens, he is in a funk. His muse has left him and he’s in a desperate spot, needing to come up with more songs to fill his first solo album. He’s still pouting and sulking about being cut from a rock documentary. It’s completely taken over his life. To get him back on track, his label wants him to do an in depth interview for a rock magazine.
Savannah is a journalist. A journalist with ethics. She’s not out to get the latest gossip, or makeup something just to sell her story. She’s honest to a fault. It took a long time for her to land her dream job. But being in the right place at the right time, and having a conversation with the right guy landed her an opportunity of a lifetime. A job writing for one of the premier rock and roll magazines. She’s all set to get started on her next assignment, when her boss pulls it from her and tells her she’ll be doing a piece on Riley Shaughnessy instead. One rock star she absolutely can not stand.
First impressions. They can say a lot about the person you are meeting. When Riley and Savannah first lay eyes on each other, in a restaurant before they know who each other really is, there is an instant connection. A spark.
The more time they spend together, the more they discover how wrong their first impressions had been.
I really liked both of these characters. They felt real, they had real issues and dealt with them realistically. Lots of emotions. Lots of feelings.
I loved the time they spent back east with Riley’s family. I loved catching up with the past characters.
I loved the rainbow connection Riley had with his mother. It was very sweet and emotional.
The story was a bit predictable, it doesn’t take much to figure out what the big uh oh moment is going to be. I hated that there was so much time apart after that moment.
But they do work through everything with a little help from their families.
This book can standalone, but I would highly recommend reading them in order so you get the whole backstory, you’d get a lot of little insights into the Shaughnessy family.
I do have one thing that has driven me nuts reading this series. And it’s just my observation, my preference. It’s the over use of exclamation marks by this author. It feels like every conversation the characters are screaming at each other. Too many exclamation marks thrown into simple conversations.
I’m looking forward to Owen’s story. Riley’s shy, socially awkward, genius twin.

Fantastic Story! Samantha Chase outdid herself with this one. I was unable to put this piece of perfection down. This had it all, the angst, sweetness, explosive chemistry, the forbidden element, and raw sexiness. This story made me laugh, cry, swoon and I didn't want it to end. I fell hard and fast for this story. Samantha Chase has a way with words, like a great artist has with paint, she creates a world that I love to visit, and sometimes would love to live in as I found myself with this story. This Captivated me and had me swooning!

Riley Shaughnessy is not only a rock star but a genuinely caring, nice, sweet and sexy guy. For the first time in his life he is wowed by a woman, one who isn't just sex, or another person wanting a piece of him, and he can't fight his desire for Savannah Daly who has turned his world upside down in the short time since he met her. He finally had a perk to doing the interview his label was forcing on him.

Savannah Daly is a writer for the music magazine, Rock The World, she has been assigned to do a multi edition piece on Riley Shaughnessy and has an all access month long pass, to work with him. But she only sees Riley as a pretty boy rock star that got lucky. She didn't like him and didn't want to do this piece. But how would she survive a month, if just one touch of his hand and one lingering smile practically stole her breath away. He knew how to schmooze and work the crowds and it rubbed her the wrong way, she knew it had to be an act, but she was hoping she was wrong.

Samantha Chase manages to bring you right into the scene with these characters. Her descriptive use of language makes a scene very realistic and the emotions the characters are feeling believable. I love when the word can fade away and I'm pulled into another time and place absorbed in it. That is exactly how I felt while reading this. So heartfelt, sexy and extremely laugh out loud funny. A light entertaining read packed with Hotness! I loved every word and couldn't put it down. Highly Recommended!

I voluntarily requested and agreed to post an honest review of this Advance Reader copy of this book that I was gifted through NetGalley.

This book is about Riley the singer of the family. Now his band has gone their separate ways and he is working on his solo album but it is not coming along. Trying to buy himself more time he agrees to the one thing he does not like doing; interviews. Entertainment reporter Savannah Daly was not looking forward to being assigned as the person to interview Riley. After complaining to her boss and losing she is looking forward to meeting what she expects to be an arrogant, spoiled, self-indulgent, rock star. She has never even listened to any of his band’s music. She is surprised the night before she is to meet him, to actually notice him sitting next to her at a little bar, a restaurant along the beach. When later that same night she comes across him walking quickly not wanting to be recognized. She gives him a lift back to his vehicle and is wondering why he not has any security and is equally shocked to see a truck, not a fancy sports car. The next day she is equally surprised when he makes them lunch and his house is something that she could see herself living in, especially the game room he has downstairs. The story picks up when she agrees to go back to his home town and actually likes his family. Her mom and dad show up and instead of helping to get out of something they also end up going. Now his writing is taking off along with the passion between them. Just when you think it will work out Riley blows it when they come back to L.A. and when he realizes his mistake he can’t find her for she quit her job. Now his album done and the record company wanting him to go on the road how is he going to find her? Read the book and find out what happens. A good story to go along with the rest of the series. This Is Our Song by Samantha Chase is the 4th book in the Shaughnessy Brothers series. From the moment I began the series, I just knew I had to catch up and read the others! This is a series that encompasses family, romance and life lessons! Each story tugs at my heart strings. I smile so much and I feel connected to these characters who are a tight knit group! This book focuses on Riley, the musician Shaughnessy brother. Riley has been struggling to finish his first solo album when his manager forces him to do an interview which is to lead to an article for a big entertainment magazine. Riley reluctantly agrees, but the reluctance is short lived when he realizes the reporter doing the interview is the raven haired violet eyed beauty he couldn't take his eyes off during a chance encounter! He knows the perfect place to do the interview with Savannah is home - North Carolina, where his family resides - so she can get an exclusive from each person closest to him. Savannah was sure Riley was to be another conceited and spoiled rock star, but she can't deny the man is hot. As time goes on, her original judgment goes out the window because not only is this man hot, he is genuine in a way Savannah has never seen. As time goes on, the two can no longer fight their attraction and things in NC are never better as their relationship grows romantically and Riley is finally inspired to finish some songs - until they land back in LA and their relationship gets flipped upside down. Sometimes happily ever after is just beyond our reach, and sometimes a little time can heal all wounds. Happy Reading!

Riley Shaughnessy is a big time rock star. He recently stepped back from his band to prove that he could handle a solo career. But... he's recently hit a brick wall on his song writing. His label is about to dump him but agree that he can have another chance as long as he participates in a month-long interview that will put him back in the public's eye. And not for being known as the least-talented of his band mates.
Savannah Daly is the reporter picked to do the interview. She's peeved because that means she's going to be bumped from a Cold Play article that she's been researching for the past month. Her first meeting with Riley is an accidental one when he quite literally bumps into her at a restaurant. Then she saves him from a rabid group of fans. When he finds out who she is, he assumes that their meeting wasn't accidental. And this is a continuing theme in their relationship. He assumes that she's all about the job, cools off and acts like a jerk, and then eventually figures out that he's being a jerk. And that was sort of boring. To see Riley make the same mistake over and over again and having Savannah apologize because he's hurt....
I think most regular Chase readers will not be disappointed but I was hoping for a little better from Riley.

All I can say is that I have a new book boyfriend, His name is Riley Shaughnessy. Riley is a rock star, trying to reinvent himself, he is having a hard time writing/performing until he meets reporter, Savannah Daly, who is going to spend time with Riley getting the interview she can. The story starts in California but we soon end up in North Carolina, with the rest of the Shaughnessy family. ( Oh how I love this family!!) A wonderful fun, supportive and caring family who lost their mom when they were young. Riley won my heart out on the airplane trip across country, so supportive of Savannah's fear of flying, big swooning here. Riley soon finds out, he can now write and perform his music much better with Savannah around. Soon a secret comes out about Savannah, that could destroy their relationship.

I promise this story will have you loving the relationship of Riley and Savannah, what they can bring out in each other. The love of family ties is very strong in this story. On a side note have a box of kleenex close by as you will be shedding tears with the wonderful story telling of Samantha Chase.

WOW - what a song.

For starters this is the best book in this series. These boys are shaped from the time spent with their mother and her death when they were all so young. This story had me in tears in just the first few pages.

Riley is trying to make a solo album and has hit a wall. The songs are in his head, but just not coming out his mouth or his fingers on his guitar. So his manager thinks he needs this big magazine story. Here comes Savannah. Savannah is not a Riley Shaughnessy fan. So she doesn’t fall prey to his rock star looks. At least not immediately.

Riley and Savannah head to North Carolina to get the interview started with all of Riley’s family. This story is awesome because the gangs all here. Ian and Martha’s “romance”is heating up which is so sweet. We know that Riley is very sensitive about a documentary that was made. Will that destroy Riley and Savannah? Will Riley finish the album? What will that last song be? Don’t miss this book!!!!!

Sweet story

This story about rock star Riley and music journalist Savannah was so sweet! Riley is suffering from a lack of self confidence and worth, and struggling as he tries to come up with music for his first solo album. He meets Savannah, a music journalist assigned to write a series of stories about him. She thinks he’s just a pretty boy with no talent, but the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes how wrong she is. When she sees the depth of who he really is, she grows more and more attracted to him. As she helps Riley realize his talent, he becomes more and more attracted to her. They become a couple but something terrible is revealed that pulls them apart. Can they overcome their pride and misunderstanding and find their way back to each other?

I liked this book because it seemed to balance fantasy (a relationship with a rock star) with reality (that even famous people have faults and misgivings).

And of course there’s the HEA because when two people are meant to be together...

Not a bad sequel

I have been reading through this series in order. Samantha Chase was a new to me author, and I’ve been enjoying this introduction to her work.

There are a lot of things I appreciate about this series. It has a big Irish family, a lot of sons with all different careers, and a family that has been affected by the loss of their mom. It leaves room for different locations for the stories and lots of emotional depth. I like the characters from the earlier novels better as secondary characters than I did in their own stories. There isn’t any graphic sex scenes. There is sex in the novel, but it happens behind closed doors. The language is reasonable, and the story line moves quickly. I can’t say that these books will make my permanent collection, but they are an easy summer beach read.

I enjoyed the story about Riley and Samantha. The characters were like-able and believable. The conflict was on the dumb side, but that makes the easy resolution more realistic, I suppose. I was satisfied with the ending, and I plan to continue reading the series.

Another very sweet story. The characters are fun and interesting. I figured out what I dislike about this series though: the author skimps out on details. The story didn't feel completely developed because whole chunks of time with the couple together or apart were not written. I could feel them missing. Additionally, I really like the tidbits of family time we get in the story. However that is the problem : only tidbits are given. I was interested in book two and this book to see the friendship between the women develop, but nothing happens. The story line is also feeling repetitive. Guy meets girl, they argue, swiftly fall in love and meet family. Woman does/did something, they are apart and miserable. Guy showed up and does something spontaneous to show his love.
Lastly, particularly in the story: something about Savannah having her heart broken by a pretty boy band member is mentioned in the beginning and never addressed again! What happened?

I haven't read the other Shaughnessy Brothers series but I am reading Band on the Run series. I read the last book first bcs I didn't realize it was part of a series and I knew I wanted to read about the other band members so I finally found Riley's book. It was a sweet book. Riley was so stressed over his album and not being included in the rock and roll documentary. Going home was just what he needed. I really liked Savannah. She was honest even when it hurt Riley. I hated the . Once I'm done with the Band on the Run series, I think I will go back and read the Shaughnessy Brothers. I am def intrigued about Owen, Riley's twin.
