Whilst the contents has very good information in this little book, about what to feed your little bundle of fluff on a 'raw food diet'. This is very limited, which is a shame, there is room and a market for plenty more. There seem to get it for our canine companions all the time but it always falls short on feline diets.
Most of the book is taken up talking about commercial feline food industry, to be truthful here, it rips it apart, with no right to reply from these companies, which is a little unfair, biased, and DOES NOT make a good case for a good argument. OK, they may do, things wrong, who knows because the facts have not been presented in a very good way. Any one can look at a packet, but unless that food has been tested in a lab? Picking up on other programmes etc, are just other opinion's and not hard facts either, and these are not referenced either. Sorry to sound harsh and critical but could anyone take a writer seriously that doesn't back up the facts? Doesn't give commercial pet food industry the right to reply?
The book was published in 2008, there has been no new editions. If it was just about feeding your cat if may have been a good book.
This book has the best possible information about Cat Nutrition, as well as reminders of where laboratory research has not been done. The author is clear and interested only in the health of the cats, nothing interfering with her accurate dissemination. The book is also easy and interesting to read - It does not sound like a textbook or a "list of facts" or a "cable channel psuedo-documentary". It's perfectly readable and there's no need to put it down or take a break any differently. There are many interesting pieces of information about the cat in here that no one would have thought of. Not only the fact that cats should never have cows' milk, but things that are much more interesting to learn then that.
Super upsetting info on commercially prepared pet food. Would have appreciated more information on transitioning cats to raw and more than a one-liner about needing to limit fish in their diet; so many other ingredients are discussed in detail, it's odd that this major one isn't.
she confirms that cats do not chew their food, and that they should eat natural or moist foods only twice a day. Food left after 10 minutes should be removed. Love this book. Reread in 2010.
