Rate this book
From Essence bestselling author Daaimah S. Poole comes the sultry tale of two women who discover that the fastest way out of debt is to have a rich man's baby...
Tanisha Butler doesn't want to spend the rest of her thirties as a lonely single mother, just like Adrienne Sheppard is sick of wasting her twenties without a man in sight. No, these sistahs want money and security and they want it now. So they come up with the perfect plan: have a rich man's baby and walk away with a fat chunk of his cash for child support. They won't have to work or play wifey, and they'll get to enjoy life while they're still young.
Before long, Adrienne scores big by making an NFL star a proud papa. Tanisha snags a pro basketball player in Europe. Their plan is working - until Adrienne's man finds out about all the other rich athletes in her past. And Tanisha's man comes back to the U.S. only to discover that his ex, Dionne, suddenly wants him back. Now Dionne is dead-set on getting rid of Tanisha, while Tanisha is determined to hang on to her baby's rich daddy. All three are about to find out that getting exactly what you want can be a very dangerous game...

I really like this story. It had a good story line about three different women with different relationship statuses. The main two characters ares searching for love with a man that has financial stability. The third character, has it all plus one.

I was really surprised about the ending. But it left me with quite a few unanswered questions.

Tanisha Butler and Adrienne Sheppard are determined to meet, marry and get pregnant by a man with money, in order to live life comfortably. After numerous attempts, they both succeed…but at what cost?

When Tanisha's secrets are revealed, her relationship with pro basketball player, Kevin is put to the test, and only time will tell if this relationship can survive. But, everyone isn't happy about their life and is determined to end it, by any means necessary.

Adrianne thought she found her forever love with Jeremy, a younger professional football player, until her past came back to haunt her. I really felt sorry for her, because she changed her life for the better.

I loved this book by @dspbooks, but I felt like the ending was a little rushed and left the readers with a few questions. My favorite character was Tyrone. He was the only one that didn't piss me off, and my least favorite character goes to Dionne. Her obsession with Kevin was too much. I can't believe I'm finally getting around to reading this book.

I love Daaimah S. Poole although her latest books haven't been at the top of my list. This book was really good and kept my attention all the way thru. I was disappointed in the ending because it left so many unanswered questions, yet it isn't enough for a sequel.

Three women, all trying to get a rich man.

Adrienne Sheppard is tired of working hard and looking for love, so she decides she is going to be a baby mama and collect a check. Tanisha Butler is 32 and married with three kids. She wants a divorce so that she can go out and live her life. And (although not in the summary) Dionne, the ex-girlfriend of a basketball player who wants her cake and to eat it too.

I liked Tanisha from the beginning. She was not trying to be a gold digger, as a matter of fact, she really wasn't paying any of the athletes any attention. That is until Kevin shows up. I was upset that she lied to him, and I thought she was crazy for divorcing her husband, who loved her and took in her first two kids as his own. Then comes the ending. Why would you run and not at least look into reports of what was being said. She stayed gone a year. You mean to tell me this heifer didn't do a google search of her name. Something! I don't think Kevin will take her back after this. She abandoned ALL of her kids, and her boyfriend. Dang!

I did not like Adrienne. She was too desperate for my taste. There is nothing wrong with working for what you have. AND she is a nurse, so she was being paid very well. Then when she gets the baby, she gets greedy. I bet she wished she had taken what the father offered after the courts gave her less. And what kind of friend was she to do that to Tanisha. She should have been the level headed one in all of that confusion. Adrienne was just really stupid for me. Of all the men, not ONE condom was worn. They could have given her something other than a baby.

Then there is Dionne. Dionne was a spoiled, privileged woman that was use to having her way and couldn't understand the word "no". She didn't learn anything. Complaining that Terrence left her, which she should have known that from the beginning. What did she think was going to happen?

I listened to this on audiobook and I thought there would be a story for Tanisha towards the ending of the book, but then it just ended. We didn't get anymore information about Kevin and the kids, nothing. I am hoping there is a part two, however, I doubt it. This was still an entertaining read. It held my attention and the performers did an excellent job. The performer for Dionne's character, I was really impressed. She gave you spoiled, pampered, little rich, bratty girl and I was able to see the shift from spoiled to savage.

4½ stars!

I felt like there were a lot of unanswered questions at the end of this book and Tanisha seemed like a real moron in the end. For one, after a year, I would think she would have kept tabs on what was going on in Philly and known the outcome of the situation she found herself in, in addition to checking up on her kids. I hated what happened with Kevin and there wasn't really any explanation about it in the end either. Overall, it was a decent story, but the unanswered question in the end diminished the read for me.

Good book. The characters are easy to relate to and they speak in normal conversation so they feel like people you already know. I did see part of the ending building up but it was still shocking. If you like Daaimah Poole books then this will not disappoint. I think this was one of her best ones.

This book had a really good story line. It’s started off really good and ended really good. Is having a rich man’s baby really worth the drama?

I enjoyed this series by Daaimah S. Poole. All the drama kept me wanting more. All 4 books in the series were good . There was even a character in Book 4 with my same name and I could relate to her. 😂

I will say, Book 2 through me got a little loop. It took me a minute to get into it. But once things started to fit in place again, it was a go.

I would recommend this series to others.

I went into this not knowing what to expect. Diamondback Playgirls disappointed me and I was afraid A Rich Man’s Baby would be More Of The Same. After all: how many Gold Digger tales can one read before they all start sounding the same, right?

I’m glad to say I was wrong. A Rich Man’s Baby really showcased Ms Poole’s writing talent. The characters, while familiar, had enough depth and unpredictability to draw me in and keep me interested right up ‘til the end.

Tanisha Butler, a thirty-something mother of three, divorced her older husband Tyrone even though he took good care of her financially. Their life together led made Tanisha feel Old Before Her Time. The emotional freedom she attained far outweighs the monetary hardship the divorce thrust upon her.

Still in her twenties, Adrienne Sheppard has the uncanny ability of falling in love with every deadbeat/playa/loser that crosses her path. In the blink of an eye she goes from the personal trainer who clearly is sleeping with many of his clients to Jeremy, a man in Tanisha’s department who also has Playa Issues. One big fight and a few of her naked pictures passed around later, and Adrienne is pregnant, all alone and at the abortionists. If she was pregnant by a rich man, she theorizes, at least she’d be Paid.

Dionne Matthews has everything a girl could ask for: a law degree, a fiancé with a good job who adores her and even a man on the side. Kevin broke up with Dionne when she wouldn’t drop out of law school to follow him to Italy where he plays basketball. Now they’re just “benefriends,” or “friends with benefits.” Kevin wants more but Dionne isn’t about to let go of Terrence and all he represents.

Adrienne’s Big Plan is to get pregnant by a Baller and thus be Set For Life. NBA or NFL, like The Rock said: It Doesn’t Matter, as long as his cash ain’t short. Tanisha goes along for a while, even though the last thing she wants is another baby. Rather quickly Tanisha discovers the life of a groupie isn’t for her yet she enjoys the parties, and the attention these eligible bachelors pay her. While Adrienne hops from bed to bed, Tanisha wins Kevin over by not being impressed with who he is. Problem: Tanisha isn’t as Upfront about who SHE is. Another problem:
Dionne has a $#!t Fit when she learns “her” Kevin has Moved On.

Does Adrienne Get Her Man? Will Tanisha’s lies catch up to her? Where will that leave her and Kevin, since Dionne is Waiting In The Wings to Scoop “Her” Man back up? And will Dionne finally give up Terrance for that True Love she feels she has in Kevin? The answers, and the ultimate outcome, may surprise you. I thought for a second that I knew EXACTLY where this story was headed, but there were enough twists at the end for me to say “Wow…” Did I buy all of it? Unfortunately not. Some of the ending was a little farfetched for me. Another reviewer complained that the ending didn’t answer enough questions yet there wasn’t enough left for a sequel. Well I was satisfied with it. Good writing isn’t supposed to wrap everything up in a Neat Little Bow. In some stories you hafta Fill In The Blanks and write your OWN ending. Just like in life, you’re not always sure what will happen next, but you hope for the best.

Let me start off by saying that this could have easily been a four star book for me. The ending SUCKED. I'm not even a real picky person about ending. I know people that hate all sad endings and then other people who always want a sad ending because it's "more realistic" and I usually like them all- as long as they're well written. This just plain wasn't.
I love Daaimah Poole and I love her books. I loved this book. Until about the last 20 pages. The ending was one of the worst I've ever read and I'm mad as hell right now. The whole book, up until the ending, was awesome- I didn't even pick up anything else I was reading- that's how good it was.
The characters- keeping all of them straight in the beginning- was a little hard but I just went with the flow and eventually got it all down. I loved the characters, I loved the drama they went through, I loved the twists and turns, etc. I just hated the ending.
It almost seemed like she put so much effort into making the story great that maybe she ran out of time and hit deadline? Like she had to come up with something and wanted to come up with something killer so she just went all out. Sometimes all out is too much and it was just that with this book.
It's definitely left open for a sequel though and maybe she'll answer some questions with that one. I'll read it if there is one, if only because my OCD will make me.

First I have to say the book overall was good. It started good, lulled in the last 3/4, and then fizzled out at the end. I had to stare at my Ipod in disbelief of the horrendous ending. It left me asking myself, "Did I just invest over 7 1/2 hours for this"? The characters were funny albeit "ridiculous". Tanisha and Adrienne's antics were well beyond stupid and juvenile. Listening to the audio I kept asking myself, now which one is in their 20's and which one is in their 30's? Both women were just above teen-like. The story did hold my interest. It had everything, a psychotic ex, gold digging women, trashy sluts, groupies, NBA and NFL players and more. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a roller coaster of fun.

You know, there are some of us who have done this and succeeded, but then there are some who have and don't and with these two ladies, I just cannot understand. One is a Registered Nurse mind you. The other heads a department at the same hospital, yet they felt inclined to do this. And oh boy, the lengths they had to go through to get the dough. Makes you wonder if the trip to getting it is really worth it. The book ended up unevenly and with many questions which leads me to believe that a sequel is in order here. Yep, I do believe.

It was an okay listen. The cliffhanger does not make a lot of sense in this new technological age. The decline of Adrian's mental went from 0 to 100. Tanisha was okay until that ending. It did not go with the character that was presented up until that point. Adrian's transfer from respectable nurse to thot was lightening quick. Because of the quick change in attitude and personality of each character, I feel I'm missing some details in their history. What happened to Jeremy? Did he learn any lessons? Will he?

This book A Rich Man's Baby was very interesting. It's about 3 different women all going after the samething. They all want to become pregnant by a rich man. They want to do this because they all are addicted to money. I really enjoyed reading this book.
I also got a lesson out of this book. I learned that material things aren't the most important things in life. Love is so much more and this book taught me that. If you're thinking about reading this book you should. I recommend it.

this book was incredibly overwhelming, some women things go correctly and some end up in shattered pieces. The way it ended was caotic, i mean 10 years, being jealous can get you into alot of things.Once a relationship has failed move on instead of waiting on hand and foot for responses!GREAT BOOK DAAIMAH .POOLE!!!
