I attended my first training session with Michael Brandwein more than 35 years ago. As a camp staff veteran, I can vouch that the tips and techniques he lays out in this book work. Even if you don’t follow them to the letter, you will find nuggets of pure gold that can be put to use in whatever supervisory role you have. While this book is directed toward youth summer camps, supervision and training of staff happens in all work places, and while the script may vary, there is a lot of cross-over.
Fantastic book on supervising. While these books are directed to camp directors they ultimately benefit anyone working in instruction and education. Micheal is funny, witty, and seems to use those things to seem like he knows what he’s talking about. A tactical genius.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning to be a better supervisor.
I really enjoy this book! There are a small number of things I disagree with, such as part of chapter 11, but other than that it’s great. This upcoming summer (2023) is going to be my 4th year on camp staff but my first year in a “supervisor” type role, and I’m really looking forward to applying what I’ve learned from this book to my actual camp experience.
