MY THOUGHTS: This could have been better. She didn't give any background on herself at all other than she went to Catholic school and got into porn when she was 20. No mention of her parents or siblings, other than to say her niece became an orphan. I don't feel as if I got to know her at all. She didn't even say what she likes to do in her spare time. She seems funny and likeable and doesn't take herself too seriously. She's been married to the same man since her early 20's, and she's 44 now. She did say she likes to keep some things private so I guess that's why there's not much about her pre-porn life in here.

Her memoir was all about her life in the porn industry, first as an actor, then as director/producer. When she came here she didn't speak a word of English. An interesting little bit is she helped teach herself English by watching television, including the O.J. Simpson trial, with closed captioning turned on so she could see the written word.

I wanted something deeper in this memoir. This was a little too lighthearted.

I reviewed an adult film she was in here .

I received this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Internationally porn star/director Rebecca Lord takes readers on a guided tour of the adult industry in To My Dear Civilians, with Love. Lord recounts how a fateful ad in a newspaper led her to the adult film industry, and how she navigated it to become a leading performer and the founder of her own production company. Along the way she reveals the differences between the European and American adult industries, and how she came to love America in all its diversity and contradictions. A star of the ‘90s and early 2000s Lord shares how she got caught up in the AIDS scare that rocked the porn industry, adapted to the internet, and learned the tricks of the trade; i.e. discerning legitimate players from the charlatans. However, despite having a co-author, there are grammar/translation issues in the writing (as English isn’t Lord’s native language), and the narrative kind of jumps around a bit. Yet despite its rough edges, To My Dear Civilians, with Love is an interesting behind-the-scenes look at the world of adult entertainment.
