Been there, done that – there wasn’t much that Eli Walker hadn’t experienced as a cop. Even working in one of the better precincts in New York City didn’t help dispel the depravity he saw on a daily basis. It was all part and parcel of his mantra of living life in the now, not worrying about the future.
And especially with women. No strings, no attachments, and he made that perfectly clear before he ever bedded them. Relationships were not on his agenda – not now, not anytime in the near future. Women flocked to him and he could take his pick; himself exiting the encounter with what he’d wanted and leaving them aching for more, left dreaming of his curly locks and bronze body.
A chance encounter pulling a mugger off of a woman changed his whole world. She was blonde and beautiful – Eli didn’t care about any of the interracial politics that would surround any serious relationship. He just knew he had to have Ainsley, like an alcoholic needs his next drink. This was all new territory for Eli and could he stay to the path, all the way to its end? Or would she be like all the others in his life …

Whilst receiving a harsh dressing down by his captain, Detective Elijah Walker of NYPD’s Major Case Squad is unable to offer an apology for beating up the perp he had just brought in. When he’d arrived on the scene, Detective Walker had forcibly restrained the man who had continued to beat Ainsley Barnett, the victim of the assault. Tall, Black and built like an army tank, Elijah feels an inexplainable attraction towards the insanely beautiful blonde he had rescued, a feeling he finds confusing as he has a strict policy not to date white women. Elijah’s partner, Detective Leon Threatt, warns him of the implications of dating an assault victim, regardless of her skin color, but against all of Elijah’s instincts, his heart soon belongs to Ainsley. After months of exclusively dating, ignoring the sideward glances and snide remarks about their inter-racial relationship, Elijah proposes to Ainsley. His fear of losing her is overwhelming due to the fact that, not only was her ex-boyfriend, Andy Denton, a sociopath and stalker who had physically hurt her too many times when they had been together, but also that there was a killer out there who was slicing and dicing women, leaving nothing but shredded remains in his wake.

Ainsley is under strict orders from Elijah not to leave the house (for her own safety) unless he is by her side, to which she agrees. Then Ainsley vanishes without a trace. In a full-frenzied panic, Elijah knows that time is not on his side, as he searches for the woman he loves, while simultaneously trying to keep his head focused on tracking down one of the worst serial killers of his time. After a Jane Doe is admitted to the hospital, beaten so brutally that she may not make it through the night, Elijah knows, without a doubt, that under all of the cuts, bruises, slashes and broken bones lies his Ainsley. As a police officer, he’d taken an oath to serve and protect, but with fury now coursing through his veins, Elijah must now deliver justice.

As a proud Black woman and a survivor of domestic abuse, the blood drained from my fingers (holding the book tight) as I turned each page of Jeanine Binder’s suspenseful romance about a cop with a temper and a woman with a crazy ex. Although not extremely graphic, Holding Fast is extremely realistic view of many different complicated aspects of two people’s lives – people who are opposites, yet fit together so perfectly. My heart was pounding and tears filled my eyes as Elijah searched for Ainsley, while knowing exactly what Ainsley was going through, due to how the book is designed. Holding Fast is written from two different points of view, with Ainsley’s thoughts being portrayed in one chapter, and Elijah’s in the next. I was emotionally spent by the time I reached the last page, feeling both sadness that the story had come to an end and still reeling at the events that had taken place in order to get to that point. I am impressed by Jeanine Binder’s ability to encompass so many sensitive social issues which take place in our every-day lives, producing such an epic tale. I look forward to reading more from this author, and recommend Holding Fast to all readers over the age of 15 years who do not shy away from confronting issues and who love action, drama and suspense in a super-charged romantic thriller.

Prior to reading this book I didn't realize it was part of the 'A Love and Order Novel' series. It is easily a stand alone book. I haven't ready any of the other books in the series and wasn't lost at all when reading this book.

Eli (Elijah) Walker is a NYPD detective. He meets Ainsley Barnett when she is victim of a crime in her father's deli shop. She's running the shop while her father is recovering from an injury. She is actually a full time writer (love that!). Eli shows he might have a little bit of an anger management issue going on when he hits the punk that is beating Ainsley. Truth is because of his childhood he has a really hard time dealing with men that beat up women.

Eli's job is his life, through his work he has seen/dealt with some very ugly situations. He does not do relationships. He is a player. By the author's description of him he is a seriously 'hot' alpha male.

Ainsley comes into the precinct to say Thank you to Eli and to offer both him and his partner, Leon a free tab for life in the deli. She is blond, shy and beautiful.

There is just something about her that pulls at Eli. He is absolutely captivated. Neither Ainsley or Eli have been in a mixed-race relationship before.

Ainsley has an ex-boyfriend that abused her and she is super cautious. Eli does talk her into going out with him and he can sense he needs to move really slow.

We travel along on Eli/Leon's cases and on Ainsley's book tour. The author does a great job in making you feel like your are right there seeing the story unfold.

Ainsley is being stalked and Eli does everything in his power to protect her but she still gets abducted.

I was so afraid for her and cheered so loudly for her when she was so tough and got herself free and was able to call for help.

Kudos to Eli for being strong for Ainsley and stepping back so everything could go by the book with the investigation.

He curbed his Alpha Male and proved just how much she meant to him.

I was surprised by how much ugliness bi-racial relationships still have to deal with in 2016. Good Job to the author for bringing some attention to this very tough topic.

I was into this book so much that I even cried at a wedding that was going on in the book. I, Seriously was into this book. The story line was great, it was 'real'. I felt it was very, very well written.

If I could rate this book higher than 5 stars I would. It earned it! Great job Jeanine Binder! I'm a new follower of yours.

Meet Eli.
A detective working in New York.
He’s seen it all.
The drug cases, the domestic cases, the murder cases.
He loves his job.
He lives and breathes it.
In his down time away from the crime of New York, Eli is a player.
A relationship with a woman is nothing of interest of him.
The list of women he has been with, a mile long.

But a call out to a dispute in a little deli shop will change everything.
More to the point, the victim will change Eli forever.

Meet Ainsley.
She’s young.
She’s vibrant.
A well established author, Ainsley loves to write.
But while her father is injured, she takes over his little deli store until his return.
But Ainsley never expected to be a victim of crime.

But what she never expected was him.
Tall, dark and dangerous Eli.

Welcome to Eli and Ainsley’s world.

They have an instant attraction.
The chemistry is there.
But can Eli change is playboy ways?
Can he commit to just one woman?
And Ainsley…..She has a scarred past.
Can she ever trust Eli?
Can she open her heart to him?
Or will her past forever keep her guarded?

Add to that a serial killer, a kidnapping, a monster from the past and secrets revealed you have one hell of a read.

We absolutely loved Holding Fast. A quick read, we were captivated from start to finish. Action packed, full of emotion, we could never guess what would happen next.
We loved the way it gave us some insight as to what it’s like to be on the force, and the visions that are left after such horrible crimes. We loved the way it touched base with the topic of race and how people can be so judgemental when it comes to certain situations.
And we were in complete awe with Aisnley and her strength to fit against the odds and come through the winner.

A read we believe shouldn't be missed.

Thank you Jeanine for giving us the opportunity to read and review Holding Fast.

A definite 4 star read.

This is A Love and Order Novel and can be read as a standalone. I have not read any of the others in this series and I wasn't lost when it read this one.
Eli Walker is a detective for NYPD when he is called to Annalise Bernett's family shop for a robbery and assault.
From what I can gather Eli isn't a man whore he just isn't looking for a relationship and isn't one to turn down want is offered. No one woman has really snagged his attention, until Annalise who is the total opposite of the women he has been with.
Annalise isn't looking for a relationship either having gotten out of a abusive one two years ago, but she can't stop thinking about the handsome Detective Walker.
Since Eli can't stop thinking about her either he just sucks it up and asks her out.
These two fit together so well, he is the exact opposite of her ex and makes her feel safe, even if he is bossy, and she is the exact opposite in that she's not aggressive and she makes him feel level headed and calm.
Even though they fit together they have things going against them, they are a mixed race couple and even though it's 2016 there are still people out there that give them crap about it and Annalise's ex is stalking her.
I enjoying getting to see Eli in is element as a police officer with the cases that he works and seeing Annalise in her element as a writer when we see her having to dealing with traveling for book signings.
The fear that Annalise feels when her ex has her and the pain that she and Eli feel in the hospital is so real it brought tears to my eyes!!
I will say it again, these two belong together!! He is her savior and she is the calm in his storm.

Holding Fast by Jeanine Binder

Holding Fast is a great romance with story for anyone looking for a quick light stand alone read. Eli and Ainsley were well developed characters and I enjoyed the story being told from both perspectives. The author did a wonderful job of addressing potential issues of an interracial couple. The supporting characters were all very well written with each having their own voice. Eli was different from the typical Alpha male in romance novels as he came off as having a much more softer vulnerable side, likely due to his work with the NYPD. Ainsley's character came off as strong and level headed in spite of a past abusive relationship. Jeanine Binder was able to write characters will relatable and believable backstory that have such a depth in such a short amount of space I am amazed. I also loved that this story wasn't an insta-love. While Eli and Ainsley's romance was quickly paced it developed at a very real rate.

The story was well paced and kept my interest however it is short, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I did find the action sequence felt a bit rushed as I expected more of a dramatic play to that event in the book. While I didn't feel like the book was rushed I did wish there were more to read. (Which is just what every great author shots for, a reader wanting more!)

I look forward to her other books

This is the first book that I've read by Jeanine Binder. Some people may have a tough time warming up to Eli because he's very alpha, but does have some anger issues. For me he worked for this story because even though Ainsley is an independent woman she can use someone like Eli in her corner. Eli has a new girl every night and he doesn't do relationships, but all that changes when he gets a call on a mugging case. Ainsley has a horrible abusive ex and she's hasn't tried dating since, but there is just something about Eli's presence that makes her feel safe. Ainsley and Eli are an interracial couple so you do see the difficult that a real life couple would face, sad as that it is. These two characters work for me because they bring light into each others lives and they care deeply for one another. You really do get to see the ugly side of being a police officer in this one because some of the cases Eli deals with a pretty gruesome. This has the romance with the suspense because someone is stalking Ainsley. It gets pretty intense. One of my favorite things of this book is watching big bad Eli fall for Ainsley. You get to see another side of him he doesn't let out often.Over all a very good read.

Holding Fast was a combination of romance and mystery. I had a hard time getting into the story at first, but then the plot picked up and really held my attention. I just had to know what would happen with the serial killer and the stalker!

The characters were mostly well developed, believable, and likeable, except Andy. I really wanted someone to shoot Andy, and I'm not generally a violent person. I fell in love with Eli instantly. Eli was a charming and capable police officer, as well as a hot alpha male. I related to Ainsley in particular, maybe because she was a writer. The relationship between Ainsley and Eli was well written, and I liked that they didn't rush into bed with each other the instant they met.

Holding Fast was the second book that I have read by Jeanine Binder. I like that she includes law enforcement and fire fighter heroes in her books. This book kept going from past tense to present tense and back to past tense in the same paragraph or page, which interfered with the flow of the story at times. That being said, it was certainly still an enjoyable and suspenseful story.

If you are looking for a book with a protective alpha male who has minor anger issues, this would be it. Eli is former military gone police officer. High enough in rank now, he doesn't exactly have to get his hands dirty, but it really rankles him when a woman is being abused. That is how he meets Ainsley. Out on a call, they find her being beaten up by a guy in her father's deli. Eli gives the guy a small piece of his mind. When she shows up at the precinct to thank him, he can't keep his eyes off her. Although he's been a one night stand kind of man, Ainsley quickly changes his mind. Their relationship blossoms but Eli is haunted by the cases coming up at work and she's haunted by the abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. While Eli is desperately trying to keep her safe, things happen anyway and Ainsley is seriously in danger. I really felt like it was a good story line but rushed in places. However, I did like the end because you don't see that vigilante justice you are expecting from an angry man with resources. It's a fitting end!

Eli Walker is a Detective with the NYPD. He was the every night different women guy, never in his wild imagination would he thought he was going to fall for Ainsley Barnett a beautiful young woman he rescued while in one of his calls.

A powerful message was send in this story, not only was the topic of physical abuse suffered in the hands of a ex-boyfriend but also the topic of issues an interracial couple faces still in this day and age.

The way Eli and Ainsley handle not only her attack was well done also the love for each other is unmeasurable.

For me both topics were beautifully handle in a way neither made the reader uncomfortable and for me that makes this book one of the best. I loved it and you should read it. I can't wait to continue reading more books by this amazing author.

I received this book for an honest review on behalf of a kiss down under book blog.

Could it work, I quite young woman with an ever growing career as an author and a tuff as they come NY police detective with a playing the field lifestyle.

I really did enjoy reading this book, I loved how Eli was surprised to find that he was willing to do anything for Ainsley, a women who came into his prescient to thank him for doing his job and opened him up to a lot more.

I did however found it strange how the author wrote about Ainsley's growing wealth as an author and how she was concerned how Eli would take it, nothing ever came of it, also with Ainsley's first assault when she first met Eli, it seemed to me the who all deal was forgotten. This is small things but it just seems unfinished to me.

That aside it was still a great read, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

This was a new author for me, and whilst there is a good underlying storyline, this book simply wasn't for me.

Individually I liked the characters, both had their strengths and weaknesses and together they grounded one another. The author took time to develop the characters and their relationship, which made that aspect of the story so much more relatable. Throughout the book the couple were subjected to verbal abuse due to their interracial relationship; this bothered me a lot as I hate to think that this is still an issue for people in this day and age, but the author did handle this very well.

There were sadly a few issues that took some enjoyment from the story, these were mainly editing issues and unfortunately this occurred in places that impacted the flow of the story.

This is the first time I've read this author. My feelings were mixed. She had a great concept, but I could barely get past the editing. There were a fair amount grammatical mistakes and spelling errors. But looking past that it was a really interesting story.
Elijah was a one-night kind of guy, no second nights. And then he met Ainsley, and everything changes. He doesn't even have sex with her until they've been dating for a few weeks.
Ainsley was blonde with blue eyes, the opposite of Eli's dark skin and eyes. Ainsley thinks as soon as she has sex with Eli he'll lose interest. When someone from Ainsley's past kidnaps her, will Eli make it in time to save her?
I would recommend this book.

A cops job is never done and in this story the life of a cop comes out loud and clear. The things Eli sees is horrible but he holds strong through it all. When he saves Ainsley from a mugger his life changes. Ainsley is an author that has put her story on hold to help with her dad's deli while he recovers from a leg injury. When Eli walks in and saves her she is grateful and then he shows up more often and things start to ignite. Trouble soon follows and things change drastically, but love and the heart doesn't discriminate. Jeanine Binder pulled me into this world with book one and hasn't let go since.
