But resist him she must; for she has been charged with a crucial task and isn't about to let anyone slow her down. Ammah can't believe his eagle has taken a mate, thereby entangling him with an Eaglekin female. He'd hardened his heart against the ways of his people long ago. A high school English teacher by day, Clover Autrey writes the kind of stories she loves to read; strong and smart characters who are willing to fight for what they believe and the people they love. Inspired by her love of Louis L'Amour historical romantic heroes, Clover (yeah, that's her real name), packed up and moved to Texas where she found a real live Texan of her own. She's been there ever since where she and Pat (who else would a Clover marry but a Patrick?) listen to the coyotes howl at the trains each evening.

Hydeia is Eaglekin, a people who have distinctive eyes, and who life bond with powerful eagles. Eaglekin live apart from mankind and other peoples, hidden away in a remote area all their own. When a powerful bonded pair go missing Hydeia and her eagle are sent out to find and bring them home. Desperate to prove herself worthy of her bondmate in the eyes of the Matrons(the leaders of her people) Hydeia will let nothing deter her from her mission, not even her stubborn eagle mating a wilder( wild eagle) or the fact that according to her people's laws, she's now mated to the male eagles wary bondmate.

This was really good! The author creates a very interesting, in depth world filled with unique creatures and hidden dangers. There is no insta love here. While Hydeia and Ammah are attracted to each other, they don't plunge into the I loves yous, or even the "let's mate!" that is common in many books. They travel together and help each other, while both facing insecurities and worries about what the future will bring. There is a lot of components to this story, it's not strictly a romance! There is the lost connection Eaglekin have with mankind, a war to human kingdoms are fighting that is just heating up and a look at their own society that has Hydeia questioning everything she's ever believed.

Totally worth the read! I'd recommend for sure :)

The first few pages where quite confusing but I'd thought I'd try and stick it out and read for a couple more. I, glad I did as it really improved, I got hand of the concepts in the book and enjoyed the journey we were taken on. Good read overall
