This series is great for anyone who loves a man in uniform! Getting to see Lane finally give in to his needs was brilliant and I was happy with getting him and Delilah together. I had the same issue as I had with the first book, that something was missing, but I still really liked the book. I wish there was a little more going on between the characters, though, because it made me feel like we weren't getting their full story. What we did see between them was still really great, though, and I enjoyed most of the book.

Summary (from Goodreads):

Lane Gallagher wants Delilah Moore—bad.

He’s imagined the sexy brunette in his bed more times than he can count.

She’s everything he’s ever wanted, but the only problem is . . .

She’s his brother’s ex.

For years, the stoic sheriff’s deputy has fantasized about the sweet, bubbly dance teacher who stirs his deepest desires. But Lane’s too loyal to ever move in on forbidden territory and he knows that while he can look, he definitely can’t touch. Fighting his attraction to Delilah is nearly impossible, but the infuriating—and incredibly sexy—woman seems determined to drive him crazy.

And she’s bringing him to his knees. One smoldering kiss at a time.

What I Liked:

I liked several of Karen Erickson's Brazen novels (specifically, the Game For It series), and I've read some of her books under her pseudonym, Monica Murphy. So when I was presented the opportunity to help reveal the cover of Smolder, I jumped at the chance, and found that I was also interested in reading the book. Usually I do not read books in which we're dealing with a girl who dated one brother and is interested in another brother. But that aspect bothered me a lot less than I expected, and I really liked the book as a whole.

Delilah has been throwing hints - and herself - at Lane Gallagher for quite some time now. Both of them are really attracted to each other, but Lane won't make a move. Part of it is because she used to date West, Lane's younger brother. But there is so much more, and Delilah wants to be there for Lane, if he'll let her.

The synopsis of this book makes it seem like Lane is holding out on Delilah (and himself, and all of Wildwood) because Delilah used to date West, Lane's younger brother, and Lane wouldn't dare date a girl his brother used to date. That's actually not really the case - well, it's not as bad and as big as the synopsis makes it. YES, Lane doesn't want to make a move on Delilah, out of brotherly loyalty and his gentlemanly values (seriously, Lane is quite the gentleman). But there is more to it - Lane has commitment issues that go back to his childhood.

Usually I don't go near books that involve a girl and two brothers, even if it's one brother dated in the past, one now. And let's be real, the synopsis of this book makes it seem like the whole Delilah-dated-West thing is a deal-breaker in this book. It's not, and here's why: Delilah and West dated in high school, when they were young teens. They never had sex, they never had butterflies or cute feelings, or anything like that. Delilah was interested in Lane even then, and she and West didn't date for long at all. And it was during high school.

So, you see why I was fine with the past brother dating thing. Because it was a lot less of a thing than the synopsis made it out to be. Phew!

Lane, oh Lane. He reminded me of Cal, from Megan Erickson's Dirty Thoughts (no, the authors are not related). Lane is irritable and grumpy, a bit of a loner, though a sexy one. He's the oldest of four siblings (three boys and a girl), and he's the one who takes care of everyone else. When they need comfort, support, financial help, advice... Lane is there. The Gallagher parents have a terrible relationship, and Lane holds it down for his siblings. He's also a workaholic; as a deputy sheriff, he is protective of Wildwood, and wants to do his job more than well. Lane is out saving the world... but no one is really there to take care of Lane!

Delilah has been half in love with Lane since they were really young. Even when "dating" West (I put that in quotes, because they never really had feelings for each other, never had sex, barely made it to second base... and this was years ago), Delilah was more intrigued by Lane. Years later, she's thrown herself at him so many times, but he won't act on them. I love that Delilah steps up and persists, every time Lane makes an excuse or turns tail or sends mixed signals. I love that she fights for herself, for him, and never gives them up. I love that she took initiative and never gave up, when it came to Lane. Delilah has got to be one of my favorite heroines, for this.

The romance is pretty steamy! We go into this book knowing that Lane and Delilah are really attracted to each other and have feelings for each other, but they haven't acted on these feelings nor have the told each other. But when Lane finally caves... *fans self* Under all that protective alpha gentleman, Lane is a dirty-talking, dominant alpha. And Delilah, as accommodating and eager to please as she is, is no shrinking violet. The pair in bed together is hot!

I like how little drama there was in this book! Even the climax scene was pretty drama-free. Lane has a lot to work through, with his mother's health up in the air, and an arsonist on the loose, and his own personal problems. But in the end, he is brave. *happy sigh*

This was a fairly quick (but not short), sizzling, and sweet read! I don't think I'll be reading Ignite but I definitely want to continue the series and read Torch. These men in uniform are totally my type!

What I Did Not Like:

Oh, you know, the usual "it could have been longer", "there could have been more sex scenes" <- things you'll usually hear from me, when it comes to romance novels. This book felt fairly short, probably around 250 pages in a print book? And I think there were only two written sex scenes (one or two more may have been implied). *stares at author*

Would I Recommend It:

If you like adult contemporary romance, especially involving men in uniform, this is a series for you! I have a soft spot for men in uniform, which is nothing new. This was an impulse read for me, and I'm glad I liked it as much as I did!

Rating:

4 stars. Torch is the next book, featuring Tate, one of Lane's friends, and Wren, Lane's little sister. I'm curious about Tate! He wasn't really in Smolder, but Wren was big-time. Squee!

I’m guilty as charged. I love reading stories that deals with one of my favorite tropes. Yes, I am sucker when it comes to loving your best friend’s older brother. And in Karen Erickson’s newest installment to the Wildwood Series, Ms. Erickson smolders readers with a slow burn romance between two family friends who has been dancing in circles with their relationship until one finally takes the lead.

#Smolder

Delilah Moore knew without a doubt that Lane Gallagher was the one. And Lane knew that Delilah Moore is the girl that he wants. Shouldn’t it be simple if two people are sexually attracted to one another get together? Well, the only problem is Lane Gallagher. You could say that he doesn’t think he is enough for Delilah and that she used to date his younger brother, West. But even though West and Delilah dated back in high school and have moved on, Lane still has commitment issues due to his father’s extramarital affairs and his ex making ultimatums. So will this stubborn man ever realize that Delilah is the one exception to ignite the fire and life into his lonesome life?

I really enjoyed reading Smolder by Karen Erickson since this book was the slow burn romance that hit the right spots. I love reading about a feisty heroine who finally had enough and took control of her feelings and the feelings that she knows the man she loves has for her. So if you are looking for a story where it took a little spark to ignite a wildfire of love then go read this book

When I first started this one, I had a feeling that "Smolder" was a story that would drive me crazy or to be more exact, Lane would be one sending me loopy! By five percent in, I was already feeling my frustration building so I wondered how the story would progress. Would I need to throw my kindle at the wall? Lol. I truly expected this book to be one that drove me insane, however my assumptions were completely wrong. I ended up thoroughly enjoying Lane and Delilah's story.

Lane was the town sheriff, all serious and tough, not allowing anything to come between him and his job, which was a shame because he had a serious crush on Delilah, the local dance teacher. Lane was determined not to act on his true feelings and that infuriated Delilah because she reciprocated his feelings right back.

"Lane Gallagher was the only one who ever made her feel something real.
No one else ever had."

I really liked Delilah, but I had mixed feelings about how I thought the story should go for her. Part of me felt that she was better off without Lane, especially at the beginning , however I loved the way that she refused to give up on him. Watching Delilah pursue Lane was so much fun. Delilah knew exactly how to get her man.

"Even if he could never admit it to himself, Delilah was fast becoming important to him-
more important than anyone else in his life."

Once they were together, Lane and Delilah made a steamy couple. I loved watching their relationship develop and it was good to see Lane finally have someone to love in his life. I was so happy with the way that the couples story played out. Now I am excited to read the next book in the series which will be Wren's story. I can't wait!

This was my first Karen Erickson book. I have read a few by her alter ego, Monica Murphy, and was super excited to give this one a try. Good news, I loved it! I will definitely be reading more!

“His low voice penetrated her brain – and something else buried deep within her. She wouldn’t mind if he penetrated her in other ways as well…Ugh. She hated how her thoughts went straight to dirty every time she was in Lane’s presence.”

Delilah has had a huge crush on Lane for as long as she can remember, even when she was dating his younger brother in high school. And who could blame her? A sexy sheriff trying to keep their town of Wildwood safe.

Lane has always carried a torch for Delilah, but he has never acted on it. For one, she was with his brother first, so he just couldn’t go there. Secondly, he was scared. Scared of how she made him feel.

“Being scared means you’re human. Guess what? I’m scared of you. I’m scared of what I feel for you. How much power you hold and you’re not even aware of it”

When the two finally give in and go at it, it is hot!

“I’m going to fuck you fast,” he muttered as he started to move, lifting his hips and pulling her down on his cock, the sensation sending another one of those orgasmic jolts through her.

But will one night of passion lead to more? Or will Lane be too scared and run away? You will have to read and find out. You will not be disappointed at all.

I loved the entire Gallagher family, well, except for the asshole dad. This is the second book in the series, and I did not read the first, though I can tell it was about Lane’s brother, West. This did not in any way take away from this story, and I can’t wait to go back and read it just to get more of the family. I can’t wait for Wren’s book next either!

This story was sexy, intriguing, and kept me on the edge of my seat with the mystery thrown in too. I need to know who the arsonist is! I will definitely be back for more from Ms. Erickson! ~ Tiffany, 4.5 stars

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

I get a kick out of love stories where two people have known each other forever and finally get together. In Smolder; big, tough, gruff deputy Lane Gallagher is brought to his knees by one of his sister's best friends and a woman he's lusted after for a long time. Thing is Delilah Moore has wanted Lane just as long so when these two finally give in to their attraction the results are every bit as hot as you'd expect. At times frustrating, at times sweet and at times sexy as hell, Smolder is a fantastic addition to Karen Erickson's Wildwood series.

I loved that Delilah finally took the bull by the horns so to speak and pushed her way into Lane's life. I understood Lane's reservations and at times I even wondered if Dee might be better without him, but on the other hand it was so easy to see that he was "the one" for her and anyone else would be a poor substitute. That's not to say he didn't drive her insane multiple times during this book and that he won't continue to drive her nuts as their relationship progresses, but then again make up sex between them is scorching hot!

This is a busy book with the arsonist of Wildwood still causing havoc and the Gallagher matriarch having some health issues that cause all of her children some concern, but there was plenty of time for Lane and Dee to get to know one another as more than friends and for both of them to figure out their feelings.

While I could have easily spent more time with these two exploring a deeper connection, Smolder was perfectly entertaining and a whole lot sexy.

I gave this book 4.5 Smoldering Stars!

This was the first book I have read from Karen, but will not be my last. From the beginning you will see two friends fight what has been there all along. Delilah is the woman who dated Lane's brother in high school. He don't want to go against the bro code, but it's getting harder for him to be friends. Delilah has been in love with Lane for years and is tired of waiting on him to make a move. Will Delilah be able to help Lane get over his past and be more than friends?

Delilah and Lane are two easy characters to fall for and the secondary characters brings laughter and sadness to the plate. This book easily flows and can be devour in just a few hours.

I will be on the look out for more books from this author.

Smolder, the second book in Karen Erickson's Wildwood series is a fun, smoldering summer read. I really enjoyed Lane and Delilah when they were secondary characters in Ignite so I was very excited to read their story. Lane is pretty much walking sex on a stick and I love that Delilah was her own woman with opinions and lots of personality. These two burned up the pages with their sexual tension and fiesta dialogue! I am so enjoying this series and look forward to book three!

After reading Ignite, I’d been so excited for Lane and Delilah’s story. It was set up perfectly in the first book – Lane is Delilah’s best friend’s older brother, and the two of them have a huge crush on each other, but they can’t act on it. I had high hopes for Smolder… but it didn’t quite meet my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a quick, enjoyable read, but I didn’t love it like I wanted. It just had so much more potential to be better. But if you’re a fan of the first book, you’ll definitely want to know how Lane and Delilah end up together!

What was wrong with a little kiss? He just wanted a taste. One taste of sweet, sexy Delilah, something he’d never experienced before. The girl who haunted his dreams. The girl who was too good for him. The girl who’d bee with one Gallagher man and didn’t need another one to come into her life and fuck it up, as Gallagher men were known to do.

I love my men in uniform, but add in a sexy broodiness and I’m hooked. Lane is the perfect example of this, and again, he had so much potential… but when he’s so determined NOT to be with Delilah, my love for him fizzled out. I want my alpha heroes to be possessive, to be head over heels for his woman and not let anything get in the way of that, but Lane was sadly the total opposite. I grew frustrated with him – despite how much he wanted Delilah, he kept pushing her away because he didn’t think he was good enough for her.

Delilah, thankfully, is a much more likable character. I loved her spunk and fire, especially her determination to win over the man she’s in love with. I admired how she never gave up on Lane, even when it seemed like she totally should’ve. The chemistry was also a plus in this book – Delilah and Lane are absolutely smokin’ together! All that build-up of the long-term tension and longing exploded in the hottest way. Karen Erickson knows how to write steam, which is fitting given the title of the book. ;)

Overall, I liked this book, but I did have my frustrations with it. Smolder was engaging and entertaining, and I do love the small town the author has created in Wildwood. Other than Lane, I really enjoyed reading about everything else, and I’m even more excited to read the next book! The author certainly knows how to hook a reader in by setting up the next couple’s book. I can’t wait to read about Wren and Tate!

“I’m a grumpy asshole no one wants to be around if I don’t have you. I’ve denied my feelings for far too long and I’m done. I need you, Dee. I need you in my life. I don’t want to lose you.”

This was a really quick read, a quick but satisfying read.

We met Lane and Delilah in the first book in this series, Ignite. Lane is West’s older brother and Delilah is Lane’s younger sister’s best friend. She’s also West’s ex-girlfriend from high school. They both want each other but Lane is being a butthead and steering clear of any kind of romantic entanglement with Delilah and nobody knows why.

They’ve been circling each other for a while now. Delilah has not made it a secret that Lane is it for her but Lane’s got some internal issues that he’s struggling with and at every turn, I wanted to bean him in the head with a baseball because seriously dude? You don’t want to be like your Dad? Then don’t be like him. You think Delilah deserves better? Then be better. I felt every single frustrating emotion that Delilah felt while reading this book. The hot and cold attitude that Lane was sporting made me want to kick him in the nuts. Good thing he got his shit together. LOL.

It speaks highly of an author who can write characters that drive me up the wall and yet keep me invested in what happens to them. As much as I wanted to knee Lane in the balls, I still enjoyed this book. I wanted so badly for Delilah to get her man in the end that when she finally does, the relief tore through me like a bunch of firecrackers going off and I loved it. I loved the support system that Delilah had and I loved how she never gave up on what she wanted and what she deserved. Her take charge attitude impressed me because I don’t think I would have put up with a bunch of the shit that she did with Lane.

The romance was steamy and worth the drama you had to go through to get to the end of the tunnel. Karen Erickson did a great job of pulling the reader into Lane and Delilah’s story and I’m not at all ashamed to say that I would really like to take one of Dee’s hip hop dance classes. Ha!

Despite this story being on the shorter side, I didn’t feel like anything was rushed or left out. It was a great quick read that is perfect for a lazy day at the beach. If you haven’t checked this book out, you should because it’s a fun read with hot firefighters and an even hotter policeman!

I didn't like this one as much as the first one. It really had no conflict...the heroine chased the hero and got repeatedly frustrated by his indecision, the hero seemed confused and horny. Hee hee!

Anyway, I will be reading the third one in the series because I am very interested in Tate and Wren.

3.5 Stars in my Sky!

Delilah's and Lane's story is the perfect tonic for a rainy afternoon. I enjoyed the banter and back-and-forth between the two, although they did drive me potty at times with the will-they-won't-they - I'm placing the blame for this squarely at Lane's feet!

Smolder is the second in Karen Ericsson's Wildwood series but it works as a standalone. Delilah has had a thing for her ex's brother for years, but much to her disgust, Lane constantly fights their attraction.

I liked their fiesty romance and although I have read several similar stories, I liked the idea and could almost look past Lane's infuriating hesitation. The man really does like to push Delilah away and then pull her back; I'm surprised she didn't get whiplash.

The book is naughty and detailed, so be prepared to blush. As is often the case with adult contemporary romances, the events happen rather quickly. I would have liked to see greater character development because I felt that certain topics were only touched upon, but within the scope of the story I liked them together.

I received a review copy.

You don't date your best friend's ex. And you most certainly do not date your brother's ex-girlfriend. But that was a long time ago. Delilah and Lane have danced around each other for years. He wants her. She wants him. But the stubborn man won't make a move. The attraction between them has only built and grown, and is thick with sexual energy. Delilah's patience is wearing thin. If he won't go for it, she will.

I applaud Delilah for taking control and making Lane face his feelings. And what a bold move she made in doing so. When these two finally come together, it's nothing short of explosive.

Just when Delilah thinks they’re finally moving forward, Lane stalls out. Haunted by his fears of everything that can go wrong, instead of seeing all that is right between them, he risks losing the one woman that has invaded his mind and heart.

I did mention he's stubborn, right? While Lane's behavior could be infuriating at times, he is worth it.

Smolder was a sexy, sweet read. I inhaled this one in a day.

Review of Smolder (Wildwood #2) by Karen Erickson

Review done for Hooked on Books & CherryOBlossoms Promotions

3 ½ out of 5 stars

Delilah Moore has been in love with Lane Gallagher for a long time. Even though she dated his younger brother, it was Lane that she has had a pull towards.

Delilah may be beautiful, smart, and sassy, but she was with Lane’s brother. That is a definite no go in his books. He can’t disrespect his family.

When the two of them keep running into each other, the attraction keeps growing. Delilah is tired of waiting so she is going to take matters into her own hands. Everyone can see that they are in love with each other except for Lane. Well Delilah has a few tricks up her sleeves for him.

This was a fun, sexy read that even had some suspense in it. I enjoyed the characters but found their back and forth a little too dragged out at times.

Overall it was an enjoyable book and I would recommend it to read.

I liked this book better than the first one. The story explained the internal family issues a lot better. We understand Gallaghers a little better. Lane is the quiet serious brother. He internalizes everything. In the last story we know that he and Delilah are attracted to each other. While Delilah goes all in, Lane tries to keep everything on the friend track. He thinks Delilah deserves better until someone else shows interest. I love Delilah. She was confident and smart. I liked how she didn't let Lane's behavior deter her. She was on a mission to get her man. So far these two are my favorite characters in the series. We still have the mystery arsonist and that will continue into the next book.

Mixed feelings on this one. It's as expected a wonderfully crafted story with great characters. There's plenty of steamy sexy times and chemistry between Lane and Delilah that is off the charts. I've fallen in love with Wildwood and the Gallagher men and perhaps my expectations were too high for this one. Lane Gallagher is deliciously yummy but I found his reason for never acting on his attraction to Delilah a bit juvenile. The fact that she once dated his brother, way back in high school, may have been a valid reason not to date then but as the years passed a simple conversation with the brother could have cleared his way to her. Luckily Delilah has had enough of waiting for him!

A very good read I just wish it had a bit more bite to it! Still it's a book I would recommend.

ARC Review: Smolder (Wildwood) by Karen Erickson

I have been looking forward to Delilah and Lane's romance since introduced to them in Ignite. Was anxious to see where all that kinetic energy would lead. Smolder was on my to be read list the minute I found out about it. Finally the answers were within my reach. Would Lane and Delilah give in to temptation? What's standing in the way? All that frustration had to lead somewhere. I am disappointed to say that for me the obsession fizzled quickly. Lane still couldn't make up his mind and though he eventually confronted his feelings of wariness, as more of his backstory was revealed it came too little to late. Like a song stuck on repeat is how Smolder read to me. There were some heated moments but in the end it fell short.

First off, I freaking loved Delilah and her uber confidence! Definitely a heroine I can get behind! And Lane...a sexy sheriff's deputy who is West's older brother and so delicious he just leapt off the page. I will say that after meeting Wayne, their dad, I ended up hating him more than I thought I would, and I can't wait for Wren and Tate! And Karen Erickson knows how to steam things up between the pages! Woot!

LOVING this series! Lane and Delilah's story was so full of emotion and sweetness, mixed with a healthy amount of steam. They are the friends to nearly enemies to lovers. It's a story about finding the courage to take a chance on love, and letting go of what you think you know. I also love the story weaving through each book! Can't wait for Tate and Wren!

I am going to come back to this book later. I found it really difficult to get into because it felt heavy on Lane and Delilah thinking about each other but not really having any extensive scenes together, and the exposition slowed the pacing.

I didn't remember trying this one before but it didn't really work for me this time either. I found the pacing slow, A LOT of telling rather than showing, and a pretty unconvincing romance. DNF and unhauled.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 21, 2016

Lane Gallagher wants Delilah Moore - bad.

He's imagined the sexy brunette in his bed more times than he can count.

REVIEW: 3.5 stars---SMOLDER is the second installment in Karen Erickson’s adult, contemporary WILDWOOD romance series focusing on the men and women of Wildwood, California but especially the Gallagher family of brothers, and their sister Wren. This is sheriff’s deputy Lane Gallagher, and dance instructor Delilah Moore’s story line. Lane and Delilah were first introduced in book one-IGNITE. SMOLDER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although there is a continuing plot line that runs through each consecutive installment. SMOLDER picks up immediately after the events of book one.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lane and Delilah) SMOLDER follows the friends to lovers, best friend’s brother relationship between Lane and Delilah, as well as the search for a suspected arsonist who has increased the frequency of suspicious fires.

Delilah is a woman who has been in love with Lane Gallagher most of her life but Lane is a man who believes he is not worthy of Delilah’s love. His father’s history of infidelity and neglect has left Lane feeling less than capable of finding his happily ever after although Delilah is the woman that calls to his heart. When Delilah makes the first move Lane is ready to run in the other direction but a call about another suspicious fire finds our hero running –this time with an excuse. What ensues is the push and pull between two people who have loved one another from afar but have been unable to make the move in a permanent direction because Lane Gallagher does not want to be a failure. The $ex scenes are intimate, steamy and hot.

All of the previous story line characters, including the Gallagher family, play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story. Family matriarch Angela Gallagher begins to show signs of slowing down; and their father continues to cause too much stress and conflict within the family. We are introduced to arson investigator Josh Bailey who has yet to show his true colors.

The world building continues to focus on a series of arson fires in the small town of Wildwood, California. The Gallagher brothers are all members of law enforcement or firefighters and play a significant role in the town’s protection and safety. Lane is a man who hides his feelings for Delilah at all times.

SMOLDER is an engaging and heartwarming read. The premise is entertaining; the characters are passionate; the romance is a slow build to a happily ever after. Karen Erickson adds another hopeful dimension to her Wildwood Series.

There are some romance tropes that just drive me up the wall and back down the other side.  The most obvious two are cliffhangers and love triangles.  Smolder had neither of these, thank Heaven.  But hidden in this tale was a storyline that had me putting this book down once, pondering a "DNF" status for it, but finally picked it back up and enjoyed the story for what it is: good writing and intriguing characters.

Smolder is the second book in Karen Erickson's Wildwood series.  Lane Gallagher is a sheriff's deputy and older brother to West from book one.  To say that Lane has issues is a gross understatement.  But he makes a darned good sheriff's deputy with his cold, calculating mind.  He's closed off to any sort of romantic entanglement but he can't keep his mind and imagination from wandering in Delilah Moore's direction.  And Lane is completely hung up on the idea that Delilah used to date West (his younger brother) in High School.

Delilah, for her part, has always had a sweet spot from Lane.  She had fun with West in High School but something about Lane really "does it" for her.  I enjoyed Delilah's character when I first met her in Ignite (book one) because she seemed like such a good person and ran her own business, no apologies.

But this time around, Delilah's relationships with others started to get on my nerves.  West and Lane's younger sister, Wren, is Delilah's friend and some of the interactions between the two of them just really put me off.  Friends don't do what these two "friends" were doing to each other.

And then there was the entire premise of the story: Lane fighting his feelings for Delilah.  You're probably thinking, "Why did you pick up the book if you hate that kind of story?  It's right there in the synopsis."  Well, the synopsis says they kiss, so I figured something has to happen pretty early in the story to move it along, right?  ∗blank stare∗  And Lane probably has a very good reason for denying himself a great girl, right?  ∗blank stare

This series still has an underlying mystery that I'm eager to see solved.  That plot point didn't really progress too much in this book but I look forward to more information in the next book, Torch , which I WILL be reading.  I'm hoping Wren will redeem herself (taking it personal much?)  And Karen Erickson will always be a favorite author of mine, whether she's writing as Karen or Monica Murphy.  She is a fabulous and talented author.

Unfortunately for me, my personal quirks kept me from thoroughly enjoying the romance in this story.  But sometimes I just need to throw myself on the sword to get to a book three...

I only reached till chapter 5 and I can't take it anymore. I am not a fan of girls who chase after guys who pretend not to be interested but are. I don't understand with the"commitment phobe" BS -- seems to be an excuse. The circling around each other is far too much. Sorry but not worth reading and jumping to the 3rd book.

I will admit that I went into Smolder by Karen Erickson a bit skeptical. While I enjoyed Ignite, I didn't love it and I wasn't quite sure what to think of Lane and Delilah getting their own story. On the one hand I was intrigued by the forbidden aspect of their relationship. With her having dated Lane's brother, I wasn't sure that I would be able to get on board fully here. The last book felt a bit icky to me with Delilah's ex (Lane's brother) ending up with her best friend and her wanting far too many details about their relationship, but I was interested to see the chemistry between Lane and Delilah explored.

Lane and Delilah had wanted each other for years but because of her being his brother's ex, she was off-limits. But the attraction between them was impossible for them to fight, and they found themselves unable to stay away from each other. But can Lane get over her past and take a chance on a future together?

I had really loved the chemistry between these two that was brewing in the first book. Like I said I was a bit nervous about how things would go here, but I could definitely see the attraction and connection between them. Unfortunately Lane drove me absolutely nuts most of this book. This guy was so frustrating, and I seriously wanted to shake him pretty much the entire way through this story. I felt like his reasons for pushing Delilah away were lame and a bit immature, and could have easily been cleared up with better communication. I had a bit of a tough time with Delilah because of how many chances she gave Lane and how she allowed the constant push and pull. I didn't understand why she would continue to put herself in the situation of being rejected by him despite her feelings for him.

I also felt like while there was promise here, I just wasn't really connecting with the story itself. There were a lot of other things going on besides just their relationship issues, and I just felt like I didn't feel invested in most of them. This book seemed to almost be on repeat at times, with things being very similar to the first book and much of the dialogue being repeated all the way through. Smolder had potential, but ultimately for me fell a bit flat. We did get to see several familiar faces from the first book, and there were some characters here that I would be interested in getting to know better. But while I have enjoyed parts of the first two books, so far this series is just okay for me. I know that I will read more from Karen Erickson in the future. While I have liked parts of this series I haven't loved either book, but I think that others might. This could just be a case of me personally not connecting or having issues that might not bother others, so I encourage you to give it a chance if you liked the first in the series or if it sounds like something you might like.

Karen Erickson is an author I’ve always wanted to read, but haven’t had the chance. When the opportunity came to participate in the Smolder blog tour, I couldn’t say no. Smolder is the second book in the Wildwood series and if you haven’t read the first, Ignite, it’s not necessary to do so in order to enjoy Smolder. I will say this, there is a running story involving an arsonist and won’t say anything else because I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone.

We have really good character development. Delilah Moore is a dance instructor and owns her own studio. She’s not afraid to go after what she wants and she has her eyes set on Deputy Sheriff Officer, Lane Gallagher. And what I can say about Lane? He’s your typical guy who is loves his job and is always worried about the safety of those in Wildwood. You’ll love seeing the fireworks that go off when Delilah and Lane are together. We have a few secondary characters that a play a role. I personally loved Lane’s mother and I also really liked Lane’s sister and Delilah’s best friend Wren.

What I liked about Smolder is the character development! I enjoyed getting to know our main characters and finding out their flaws and fears. I also really liked that there was no drama or misunderstandings that are often found in romances. None of this will they resolve whatever small conflict they have. I really did like getting to know the reasons why Lane doesn’t want to pursue a relationship with Delilah. Some readers might be put off due to Delilah’s involvement with Lane’s brother in high school. I, for one, don’t like these types of stories because it just seems gross to me. That being said, trust me on this one-if you don’t like this type of plot, pick this one up! You’ll definitely understand why these two work and belong together.

What I didn’t like about Smolder was the length of the book and I really do think it could have been longer. And the running story involving the arsonist could have been played out a little more. It almost felt as if, it was there to create an inconvenient moment when Lane and Delilah were together. I would like to go into a little more detail regarding the arsonist, but if I do, I’ll spoil things.

Overall, if you’re looking for a quick sweet romance to read on the go, I recommend Karen Erickson’s Smolder. I can’t read to read Torch and see if anything gets wrapped up.
