Buried Thoughts
Each person’s life is a grand sum of a thousand tales, told and untold, with its uphills and downhills and with its bleakness and magnificence. Here, Joseph is narrating his own life experiences with staggering honesty and you feel that you are a part of the plot. They speak to us about love, remembrance, mistakes and hope that motivate us to re-examine our lives and find meaning in it. With the turn of each page, the author gives off a sensation that no matter how dark dusk is, dawn is always waiting at the end of the horizon. Summary
Joseph Annamkutty Jose is a name that needs no special introduction, especially if you are from the
the southern part of India. The audacity of a young guy to write a memoir in a language that he is not so comfortable with as it is not his native language should be appreciated. What makes this book special is Joseph's ability to see the simple things in life in a slightly different manner and write it in the most straightforward way possible to bring the most significant impact. His ability to convert failures to success by ultimately winning the 'star of the batch' award and his ability to transform the grief of break-ups to a wake-up call to motivate himself and others are all really praiseworthy. Just like his popular radio show called, 'Straight from the heart", he was able to write straight from his heart, touching the hearts of every one of us.
What I learned from this book
1) How to love our parents?
Joseph teaches us how to love our parents right from his name. Coming from a patriarchal society that is undergoing steady transformation, we can see his name has both his mother's name Annamkutty and his father's name Jose. The way he tells his parent's names with love and pride shows how much he loves them. In multiple parts of this book, he tells us how to love our parents and how some simple gestures can make their lives wonderful. Even the people who are stone-hearted will cry after reading the section called "The last wave," which is written about one mother.
2) A discussion between a priest and a young man regarding why God has created the desire towards the opposite sex so powerful
This is a gripping area in this book that will make us think. Even though the priest tells something that everyone already knows, the way it was conveyed was riveting and unique.
3) Connecting the dots and facing the storms in our life
Joseph tells us that each incident in our life, no matter whether they are good or bad, is like a dot. Each and every dot is so vital because if we draw a line connecting each dot, it will create a beautiful picture. If you are sad about something bad that happened in your life, always remember that the particular event is inevitable to complete a remarkable picture. He also tells us how to face storms in our life

If you are someone who has immense control over your mind, you might feel some of the areas in this book as maudlin and frivolous. But as it is challenging to attain that level of mind control, I think that this book will be useful to almost everyone.

If you are a religious person who has an open mind to appreciate anything good, I suggest you to try this book as it has the power to become a panacea for the peripatetic mind to solve many of the problems that are perturbing it.

What I learned from this book

The young man spent a few seconds thinking.... He answered, 'Reading, reading is supposedly good, but I don't like it.'
'If your desire or attraction towards women was as weak as your desire for reading, do you think human life on earth would continue to be there? Life would cease to exist. I guess God is one hell of a smart guy who made heterosexual attractions a powerful one, because he knows what comes out of it. Trust me, He has got his permutations right. ”

Very simple narration but heart touching.. Each chapters/ stories gives some moral out of it and makes us to think. Amazed with this young writer how he finds something positive or morals from a small/ not so important (atleast we pretend to be) incident. When we starts thinking we had also went through all similar situations but havent felt much to write about or make a book out of it :)

Author's first book, quite obvious as you read on. Language apart, there are some 'burried' treasures too. Some of those perspectives he offers is just too good.

This was an easy read. Not quite an Excellent book but some stories were really gud.

Some stories felt like author just wanted to convey the ending so he was kind of rushing through the narration. And some had lot of self praising or was just written to that one person intended. I had nothing to connect to.. But the above ones were so relatable for me.

This book gives a message in every chapter which in some or other way relates /connect to one's life's. Good part of this new book written this young author is that he has brought out a different perspective at every experience that took place at different stages of his life. Everyone has experience , but very few introspect and re-look on the roots where we come from and have gratitude to the people who have helped us in our journey called "life".
I would recommend to read it , am sure it will give a new outlook towards life and define love better .
as the author says "have an extra eye that saw the unseen ,an extra ear that heard the unheard and an extra heart that felt the unfelt".

Buried Thoughts One Life, Many Stories by Joseph K Jose @josephannamkutty is a collection of small incidents that happened in his beautiful journey called ‘Life’. Some of the events he mentioned can be related to our own life and what I liked most is that he tried to bring a lesson out of each incident in different stages of living in a different perspective. 🔥
Joseph has written the confessions of his life honestly. How he feels about his life, about other people he met and his attitude towards them. Some parts of the book will bring tears to our eyes. He pointed about memories, love, regret, affection, gratitude, hope, experiences, friendship….💫 Joseph studied in Malayalam medium school till tenth grade. At the age of sixteen, he went to a seminary to become a priest as per his parents wish. He spend three years of his life in seminary which he never enjoyed. He was forced to do many things in his life, which he had never done.

After three years of mental trauma, he left seminary with the help of his brother. He helped Joseph to get admission in one of the prestigious colleges in Bangalore. Life was entirely different from his past three years, and he enjoyed to his max. His brother and his friends helped him lot. Joseph's never gave up attitude on life has bought many achievements in his life. After three years of B' life, he returned to Kerala and joined a college to study MBA. He had mentioned about the people he owes during his MBA days. A girl who helped him to study maths which was a very difficult subject for him, a girl who helped him in projects, his friends, teachers, parents…. 💕
The words that touched me most is the last two lines of the book. "The best thing you have done for me is that you have put your faith in me. You trust my abilities more than I did”. These are words of the author to his father.💞 .

I loved the book, the way he has written. The book cover is lovely. I suggest this book to every one of my generations to understand how to see life, correct mistakes and move on.

I liked every bit of this book. Buried Thoughts is the first book I’ve read in English. I’m not fluent in speaking English, but I was surprised that I could understand it so well. Maybe watching English movies helped me!
I already said I liked every part of it because the author truly opened his heart in this book. The main thing is that he shares his own stories. I loved all the chapters—each one has its own uniqueness, and from start to finish it’s just awesome.
The biggest highlight is the quotes. I don’t know how many there are, but there are a lot! Most of the stories carry a lesson, and through his words we can feel the happiness, the pain, and everything he experienced.
What impressed me most is how carefully the author treasures each character and their memories. Each one clearly holds a special place in his heart -that’s how beautifully he wrote them. I’m sure some of the people he wrote about will be surprised when they read this—Did I really help him? Did he remember this?
I’m still amazed at how he remembered and described every detail of the old stories. A big appreciation for that!
There’s so much more I’d love to say about each story and the special moments inside, but I’ll save that for another time.
The first thing I thought was—maybe I could start a daily vlog, a diary, or even record a voice clip about my day-to-day life.
I’m so glad this was my first English book—it makes me want to read more!

To be frank, I picked up this book after hearing the author's interviews and his perception of life and things around. This arouse my curiosity about his findings and writings.
Somewhere, his words in those videos and this book hooked some deep routed thoughts I carry. It is indeed a bold step to write out things without caring if it would shatter your image in front of others/ world. I felt somewhere the thoughts he brings in, such as evolution of humans does not happen in isolation, apply to all. In other words, he is reinsating to learn from our mistakes, our happiness, others and grow. That is definitely helping us bring rays of hope.
Through his stories, I sensed the smell of a almost-disappeared world I had in my childhood. How beautiful it is to think of our loved ones, the elders who saw us grow and then we splitted up our routes only to meet during the dusk of their lifetimes!. What could we offer in turn for that happiness!? The first story reminded me of my own elderly loved ones whom I should meet the next time I am back home.
Another good part that I loved about his writing in this book is the way he brought in tiny quotes before stories. Those are carefully selected and beautifully linking with stories.
I would say it is a magic of his writing. How beautifully it strikes some forgotten chords of our mind-guitar!
Altogether, its a beautiful collection of stories from his own life.

This book, "Buried Thoughts" by Joseph Annamkutty Jose, is the author's debut work, in which he shares his life experiences through numerous stories, the author wrote 25 topics under four major titles: Love, Remembrance, Mistakes, and Hope.
Each chapter starts with a beautiful quote and ends with a moral or message to take away from that particular chapter. He mentioned right from his childhood memories to school days to college days to his first job, from known beloved people to unknown strangers, from his city to another state to another country, his journey from an introvert, shy boy to a confident person, all the above-mentioned have shaped him into who he is today. The best thing about this book is that we can relate to one or the other topic he wrote about, one or the other situation he came across, one or the other person he mentioned. And I liked how he recollected all the best moments, best people he met in life and his struggling phase and how he overcame all that with his inner strength and good people around him, was so good to read about.
In this book review, I would like to mention Joseph Bro as the 'Author Bro' who wrote connectable tales about various emotions of life to bring back the memories you have buried alive under the slab called Life, and we can just revisit and relate to our life effortlessly with his impactful narration about his life events.

In this book review, I would like to mention Joseph Bro as the 'Author Bro' who wrote connectable tales about various emotions of life to bring back the memories you have buried alive under the slab called Life, and we can just revisit and relate to our life effortlessly with his impactful narration about his life events.

ഒരു നല്ല വായനക്കാരന് മാത്രമേ നല്ലൊരു എഴുത്തുകാരനാകാൻ പറ്റൂവെന്ന് തെളിയിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകമാണിത്. ഇതിൽ ജോസഫ് അന്നംകുട്ടി ജോസ് എന്ന വ്യക്തിയുടെ അനുഭവങ്ങളാണ് പങ്കുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഓരോ അദ്ധ്യായം തുടങ്ങുന്നതിനു മുമ്പും കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന quotes നമ്മളെ ഒരുപാട് സ്വാധീനിക്കുന്നു. എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്ന ഓരോ വരിയിലും നന്മയും സത്യസന്ധതയും നിറഞ്ഞു നിൽപ്പുണ്ട്. എവിടെയൊക്കെയോ ഒളിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന നമ്മളിലെ നന്മയെ ഇടയ്ക്കിടെ തോണ്ടി ഉണർത്താൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നുണ്ട് ഈ രചന. ഒരു നല്ല മനുഷ്യൻ ആകാൻ പ്രചോദിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പുസ്തകം. അദ്ദേഹം എങ്ങനെ ഇങ്ങനെ ആയി, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിലെ വഴിത്തിരിവുകൾ, കുടുംബ ബന്ധങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം, അത് നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ വരുത്തുന്ന മാറ്റങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഇതിലുണ്ട്.
ദൈവം ഒരിക്കലും നമുക്ക് മുൻപിൽ നേരിട്ട് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടില്ല. പല രൂപത്തിലും പല സാഹചര്യവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം അറിയാൻ സാധിക്കും. ചില വീഴ്ചകളാണ് ജീവിതവിജയത്തിന് കാരണങ്ങൾ. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിലെ വീഴ്ചകളും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് താങ്ങായി നിന്ന ആളുകളേയും ഇതിൽ കാണാം. മറ്റുള്ളവർ എന്തോ പറഞ്ഞുകൊള്ളട്ടെ സ്വന്തം മനസ്സിനിഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ചെയ്താൽ മാത്രമേ നമുക്ക് സന്തോഷം ലഭിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ എന്നദ്ദേഹം പറയാതെ പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. മലയാളി അല്ലാത്ത ഒരാൾക്ക് ഈ പുസ്തകം വായിച്ചാൽ എത്രമാത്രം ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ കഴിയുമെന്ന് അറിയില്ല. പക്ഷേ ഒരു മലയാളിയെ ഉറപ്പായും നല്ല രീതിയിൽ സ്വാധീനിക്കുന്ന ഘടകങ്ങൾ ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ ഉണ്ട്. എനിക്ക് ഏറ്റവും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഒരു പുസ്തകം തന്നെയാണിത്.

April 8, 2022 Buried thoughts is a collection of memories written by Joseph Annamkutty Jose. This is my first experience reading his book and he did not disappoint me in any ways. I believe the author has a really good collection of his memories. He must have done an abundant amount of work to convert his memories to a book of such a kind. I still admire his efforts in writing this book.
The content seems to be very much interesting. Not all his memories touched my heart but still most of them were good enough
Once I complete each chapter, I would turn the pages back and check the heading once again and each time I did this, I felt those were the ideal headings which he could figure out for that chapter.
The author had used simple and plain English and hence it is quite easy to understand and visualise his memories

💭When I started with the first chapter, I wasn’t expecting much, but as I went through each of the stories, each story had a little treasure buried underneath it!
One story actually managed to make a real drop of tear fall from my eyes, Another one made me confirm what my deepest fear in life was!
Again & again, I could learn new lessons & also confirm the many values I already believed in, there were also rare ones which I disagreed to, this book consists of experiences of his, some of them just felt like everyday events & others spectacularly extraordinary, But got to learn equally from both.
I’ve indeed become a fan of the author’s storytelling capabilities, the details that he included really helped me to enter his life merely through his words!
I’m happy I got this book from Shifa and also that I managed to read this entirely within the limited time, As I've to return this back to her tomorrow:)

Lovely read. There so many feel good stories in this book, with many ending in conveying a message. I think it's not everyone's cup of tea. But I loved it. There are some stories which helped me in gaining a new perception on several situations which I had come across earlier. These perceptions helped me find new meanings and solace for these situations and I am sure it will help in doing so in future as well.

A collection of short stories from the author's life aimed at giving valuable life lessons. The language is plain and simple with the some good lesson in each chapter. I feel author has shown justice in writing the memoir as stories seems to be taken straight from his life without any extra 'masalas'

Truly saying it's an eye-opener to what the real world is like and shows how he(joseph annamkutty jose) have faced it. Some of the chapters make you cry like a newborn, some make you think and some may put a big smile on your face. It's what true life is and will be. make sure you are ready for an emotional rollercoaster. It also has surely changed my life for good.

Highlighting his own life and experiences, Joseph makes us think about our own lives. He says about the value of relationships, and memorizes each person who came up as a guiding light in his life. A feel-good book which gives the reader a feeling of satisfaction while turning each page.

This book takes us through various memories of the readers. The reader also speaks about his mistakes, the way he recognised the mistakes and how he corrected those mistakes. It's really an awesome book.

Truly feel that if this was written in Malayalam, it would have been a better read, especially because we will be able to connect his way of speaking directly in books.

A good memoir. The language is really basic and easily understandable. I couldn't relate much with the author but certain characters stuck with me. Not a must read, but go for it if wanna give memoirs a try.
