Last fall, Nick and his friends restarted their grandparents' superhero team, taking down their city's mayor and a conspiracy in the process. With the conspiracy's formula for granting superpowers in the hands of the government, and the conspiracy nearly destroyed, there shouldn't be much to worry about.

Now though, the newly reformed Heroes' League has learned that an assassin who specializes in killing supers has been sighted near Grand Lake. Worse, he's been sighted near Nick's girlfriend's family cottage.

Between a man who is willing to kill them all, and a formula that might not be as secret as they'd hope, life is about to get complicated.

About the author

Jim Zoetewey grew up in Holland, Michigan, near where L Frank Baum wrote The Wizard of Oz and other books in that series. Admittedly, Baum moved away more than sixty years before Jim was even born, but it's still kind of cool.

Jim didn't attain his goal to never leave school, but did prolong his stay as long as possible. He majored in religion and sociology at Hope College, gaining enough credits to obtain minors in ancient civilizations and creative writing—had he thought to submit applications to the relevant departments. He attended Western Theological Seminary for two years. He followed that up by getting a masters degree in sociology at Western Michigan University.

Once out of school, he took up the most logical occupation for someone with his educational background: web developer and technical support. Simultaneously, he finished all but three credits of a masters in Information Systems, a degree that's actually relevant to his field.

He's still not done.

In the meantime, he's been writing stories about superheroes and posting them online at http://inmydaydreams.com. He's still not sure whether it's a good idea, but continues to do it anyway.

He's also not sure why he's writing this in the third person, but he's never seen an author bio written in first person and doesn't want to rock the boat.

Powers is an excellent follow up to to Rebirth. Looking forward to the next one. Again this takes place in the state of Michigan. I’m partial to Michigan because I live there. In the city of Grand Lake. Southwest Michigan I presume because Chicago is right across Lake Michigan. The Legion is more organized this time around. Rebirth they were getting the hang of being a new generation of descendants of famous golden and silver age heroes.

Nick is the main character. The one who doesn’t have any superpowers. He doesn’t need them. His grandfather left him the Rocket armor. He wears it well. I like how the Legion being in high school has to find ways to make it to situations that require something only a superhero can manage. They aren’t always together as an entire team but they try.

I don’t really want to spoil anything. You’ll just have to read it yourself. The Legion has a nice mixture of personalities and abilities. Kind of like a mix of the Justice League, the Avengers and the X-Men. Not quite but almost. Very enjoyable.

Wonderful, human and exciting story!

Jim writes with heart, and an eye for the small things in life that make the writing more than just action and super heroics. But of course in any genre there has to be drama and intrigue and tension and action. It balances a story and makes us remember our favorite parts. Some of my favorites is when the bad guy gets punched in the nose. Some other favorites is when friends just get to talk about how life is changing now that High School is over. I remember those days, even if I'm not a superhero. The remembering is both nostalgic, and a little sad. It was all fifty years ago. But it us happy too. Those were great times. Our lives were just starting, the world was full of possibilities. Good memories. Good writing. Thanks Jim for a wonderful story!

Like most second books in a trilogy, this is book exists mostly to set things up for book 3. It's really more 3 novellas closely related than a story.
