Jack & Jill #1-3

The Jack & Jill Series

Rate this book
END OF DAY (Book 1)
Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life.

Four caskets. Two bodies.

Jessica and Jude Day witness their funeral and that of their parents a few yards away from mourning family and friends. Stripped of the only life they’ve ever known, the Days say goodbye to San Francisco forever.

Six months later, two thirty-year-old misfits with elite self-defense skills and penchants for alcohol, sex, and trouble arrive like an earthquake to Peaceful Woods, a retirement community in Omaha, Nebraska, that thrives on rules and gossip. Welcome home, Jackson and Jillian Knight.

Jackson celebrates his new beginning by embracing his job and wiping his cavalier past clean with a temporary oath of celibacy. But Jillian’s past is branded into her soul—the deaths, the insanity, Dr. Luke Jones, and the need to make her lovers bleed. Her chance for redemption comes in the form of a next door neighbor, one Senior Master Sergeant Monaghan. He’s sexy, dangerously alluring, and riddled with emotional issues from years of service. He’s also … So. Damn. Grumpy.

Their mission is simple: Let go, start over, don't kill anyone, and pray that nobody wakes the dead.

MIDDLE OF KNIGHT (Book 2)
The living seek forgiveness. The dead seek revenge.

A first love.
A last breath.
A haunting past.

Armed with a sinful past and an equally sinful body, Jackson Knight absolves his vow of celibacy to pursue Sergeant Monaghan’s unsuspecting—older—housekeeper.

Ryn Middleton, on the cusp of turning forty with a snarky daughter, a killer dog, and an abusive ex-husband, finds Jackson’s advances humorous and unbelievable. After intense negotiations including Vera Wang, Ed Sheeran, and sex four times a day, Ryn accepts Jackson’s marriage proposal on their first date.

What could possibly go wrong?

While struggling to lay claim to the woman of the dreams he never had, Jackson is forced to deal with a grief-stricken Jillian trying to hold on to her past without letting go of her future—the doctor who took her heart and the Sergeant who gave her a new one.

Beyond the hope for light, lies the middle of darkness, the illusion of truth, and a haunting past.

DAWN OF FOREVER (Book 3)
’til death do us part.

Aric James Monaghan promised Jillian Knight Portland. With a heavy heart and a light bag, she travels to the West Coast for the man she loved. In a blink her worlds collide, holding her hostage to a past filled with lies, deceit, and revenge.

Four Caskets
Two Bodies
It all started with a boy and a girl—their tragic love story is shared through the eyes of the enemy.

Every word fades dreams and shatters memories as life slips away. Jillian needs a Knight, Jessica needs a miracle, and together they need a savior.

Jack & Jill was a massive surprise.
A very good one I must say.
It popped on my feeds very often but the cover was not appealing to me at all.
I know, I know.... don't judge a book by its cover.
I decided to give this a go when I saw the whole lot available on KU.
It wasn't all perfection. There was some incredible coincidences and a few super powers actions that could make this all go down the hill with me, but you know what? I am going to shut my eyes and overlook this because when I look at the whole picture, this was an incredible ride.
I am so glad I could read it all in one with only one click.
I take off my hat for the author who created so well one of the most peculiar, bizarre, intriguing, interesting and original characters I have ever read.

So, as I mentioned in one of my status updates, I contemplated shelving this bundle during my read of the first book because I just couldn't get into it.

It was a definite 'It's me, not you' scenario

because now that I've finished it, I don't know what the hell I was thinking?!!!!! I have nothing, not one thing to critique about this amazing series!!! I'm not much of a "romantic suspense" reader, but I kept seeing so many rave reviews for this series that I finally decided to jump on the band wagon and see what all the fuss was about :)

I only have a few things to say for this series: it's soul shattering; there will be many "ugly cry" moments; some of the best lines/quotes I have read in a long long time!; EPIC love between multiple characters (NO, not a menage); and simply...................

Oh My Wow...
Can one book put you on edge, Intrigue you, Make you laugh, Keep you guessing, Make you swoon and Give you a head trip?
YES!!! Yes it can.
Unputdownable. Entertaining. Puzzling.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS. This too me is crazy. I love them all!! Even the crazy ones ❤I'm gonna say this was a beyond fabulous read.
This story is told in a very unique way. It gives us past & present. It tells the story of Ryn, Jessica/Jillian, Luke, Jude/Jackson and AJ. I love every one of them and although we have many characters it is very well written and it's easy to follow.
Dimensional
A story that can keep me guessing.
A story that can make me laugh out loud.
A story that makes me swoon for 3 different men.
It surprised me. It made me sad. It pissed me off.
A story that kept replaying in my head when I had to stop reading but all I wanted to do was pick it back up.Aaahhhhhahhaaahhhh!!! ARGH!!!!
OKAY. So now that I've screamed my lungs out.
*sigh* WOW!! This series was phenomenal but this last book was Uh•Fucken•Mazing!

Rollercoaster ride ✔
Broke my Heart ✔
Made me Laugh ✔
Broke my heart ✔
Put me on edge ✔
Broke my heart ✔
Made me Cry ✔.... I think you get the idea. I don't think I've EVER fell in love with soo many characters from one series. Normally it's the hero & heroine. BUT what about when you have several heroes. More than one heroine. My heart could not love just one or two. No way.
The story unravels beautifully causing the ending to be a painful perfection.

Luke reached into her chest, pulled out her heart, and said, “If I can’t have it, no one can have it.” 😭

In a life filled with monsters, their love was a survivor.

S p e c t a c u l a r ! ! . . . . . C a p t i v a t i n g ! !

The Jack & Jill Series was surprisingly unexpected in that it is sooooo much more than I thought it would be. There is no going into this book with any preconceived notions because Jewel E. Ann will throw you for a loop, knock you off your feet and clobber you over the head with her brilliant storytelling, unique characters and witty dialog!! This is definitely going up amongst my top favorites and highly recommend this amazing series!!

The characters were beautifully written and intelligent, I loved them all. I hope if you plan to read this series you go in blind because it will consume you from the first page. Well, at least it did for me! I loved not knowing or being able to guess where the story would go from one page to the next.

Romance you say? Yep! Off the charts H O T ! !
There is really not very much more I will say on this.

Con·tu·ma·cious . . . stubbornly or willfully disobedient to authority.
(Yep! My new favorite word!)

A friend of mine has been on me to read this series, and for some reason, I kept putting it off; but thanks to Kindle Unlimited, I have the entire series, so I couldn't wait to get started. This is suspenseful and breathtaking, keeping me hostage, as I have no idea how this is all going to play out. Jackson and Jillian are a conundrum that I haven't quite figured out, but I guess that is the whole point of their existence. Jessica and Jude are from another "day" and time, and I must read on to pull it all together. The authors use of symbolism and double entendre is simply brilliant. My friend was right, I needed to read this series; now on to Middle of Knight!

My heart is literally in my throat right now, and I've been through an emotional tsunami. I'm exhausted, but it is so worth it. Jewel E. Ann is absolute amazing, and this reading journey is like no other that I have experienced. I am just grateful that I have Dawn of Forever on the ready to devour immediately.

OMG, I'm exhausted, exhilarated, sated, yet so sad to see this amazing serial come to and end. Dawn of Forever kept me up until the wee hours of the dawn because I could not put it down, as the crazy suspense kept me on edge. I was a blubbering mess, with my heart pounding in my chest, needing resolution, and praying that all my friends would make it through unscathed (okay, maybe that was a bit unrealistic considering the circumstance). Jewel Ann you are incredible, and I can't wait to experience more of your gift. How were you able to come down from the high that this journey evoked? I'm having a hard time, and I know that I'm being selfish, but I want MORE days and knights, forever! Will you please consider it? Much love!!!!!!!

“God gave you a gift of 84,600 seconds today. Have you used one of them to say thank you?”
~ William Arthur Ward
I am going to take one of those second to thank God for bringing this series in my life. I know to some people that may sound lame but books to me are much like but sometimes better than people. Just as some people take a part of you with them, a rare few books do the same. The only difference if that you really don't mind when its the latter lol. This series is something else, something special. There are times when you have so much to say that all of that gets jumbled up in your head and this is one of those times. I loved all three of these books with all my heart, the characters weren't perfect but they were so real, so humane which is something you don't find in every book these days. The leads made mistakes maybe even some unforgivable ones, they were flawed to extreme at some points but despite all of that i loved each one of them because one of the things i learned from this story is that you can love and forgive even when it seems impossible if you choose to do so. It was heartbreaking and beautiful and so much more <3 I ADORED THIS SERIES <3

Really enjoyed this.

This completed series was really something different and I enjoyed every moment. I liked that the characters are a bit older as alot of the recent books I've read seem to have teenagers. I loved the humor of the quirky characters and how they continually surprised me with their thoughts and actions. I loved how there were multiple important characters and how this series is way more than just a love story between two people. I loved how deep the issues are that these characters face and how none of them make it through without being bloodied and having their hearts ripped to shreds but the end of the journey really is perfect. I would highly recommend you read this completed series as it really is something different.

Infinite stars!!! ✨✨✨

I am dying in this, it was that good. I couldn't stop crying or smiling or even laughing at times for the next few days after finishing this book.....and I am sure I appeared like a crazy person but I don't even care.
This story was a mindfucking and simultaneously mesmerizing experience. Just ... WOW.

I won't say more than this- It's almost been a month that I finished this story and I can still remember whole dialogues from it.....and I am the gal who usually can't even remember the names of the main characters afterwards.

Jessica, Jude, Luke, AJ and even Jones the dog ....and all the side characters..i love you all. ♥️

My favourite quote:
"Jujube, you are the first boy I ever loved"
I downright bawled at this stage. 😢

Book 1 was the best out of the three books but nothing to get excited about. The story dragged and was boring now and again and at times repetitive. I can’t believe I waited this long to read it. I was disappointed. I only liked the parts with Jessica/Jillian and Luke. That’s it even though there are quite a few characters throughout. I liked the humor throughout which helped a lot in receiving 3 stars. I do not recommend.

I can’t say enough about this series. I had no idea what I was in for but wow! Do yourself a favor and read it. And then to find out there are two books for related characters was the best surprise. I couldn’t review these individually because I couldn’t stop reading long enough to put a review together for each book. The love and heartache in this story was amazing and worth every tear.

My favourite read last year was Only Trick, I can't put my finger on if it's the way Jewel E Ann spins a story or that her characters are so relatable in one sense or another but every book I've read of hers I've loved.
(Saying that, I read the sample of the first book more than once and it didn't grab me but I think that was because I knew the series wasn't complete at the time so I kept putting it off.)
I'm sitting here trying to sell this to my fellow readers but I don't know where to start because the first book gave me such a high compared to the second book and then the third one put everything into perspective......that makes no sense! Basically, the series is a roller coaster. It's got everything including stuff you might not like because you can't please everyone all the time. Don't mean that in a bad way!

Jewel E Anne, thank you. This story took me on a ride, tense highs and sad lows with a multitude of near tears. You have a way with words I'm epically failing to translate....

Usually I read a series in a couple of days. But this series had me so agonized I had to take a break and read other books. I just fell hard for the characters and was torn between Jessica and Jillian and Dr Luke Jones and Aric. Just wow, I was afraid to lose anyone and so sure Someone would be ripped from my heart. Loved Jakson, Jude and Ryn. Sometimes love is so deep it survives everything and thats the kind of love we all want. I don't remember who recommended this series , but thank them anyway. Dark themes. I like to think my husband has the kind of love for me that Luke has for Jessica. But wow..

I've rated these three books as a whole. The first one I found the most difficult to read. I struggled to work out who was saying what at times - so this I'd give 3 stars. Book 2 started to get better, I felt Jessica's character developed and I got to know the gorgeous Julian, so this I give 4 stars. By book three, I was completely hooked with their messed up characters, so this I give 5 stars - hence the average of 4 stars overall. Sell an absolutely great unique trilogy.

complete trilogy

I loved this series. You really have to read it as a trilogy because the first book although it was great definitely lacks most of the meat in the whole story. The second and third books definitely provide more context and closure to the story. Heart wrenching series with lots of ups and downs. Thriller/Romance equally balanced and contains lots of plot. I loved this series and it wrecked me in parts emotionally.

Okay so it feels like it took me forever to read this trilogy— it was one I put off reading a lot and once I started I knew I had to read it all— it was a lot to take in and sometimes I could handle only a few chapters at a time.

[In a life filled with monsters, their love was a survivor.]

OVERALL: 5⭐️
- a well crafted emotional and dark twisted story by Jewel E Ann
- her dark and often ornery humour makes me laugh out loud (especially when I really shouldn’t).
- I’ve never read a contemporary romance series written quite like this.

BOOK ONE: 4.5 ⭐️
- It took a little while to settle into the plot and get into the 3rd person's POV.
- Jill’s character seemed a little too OTT but I got to understand her.
- The flashbacks were just what was needed to bring this story into focus.
- Dr Luke Jones IS E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G he’s hyped up to be!!

[The magnetism to Luke was more than she could resist. He had something so vital to her survival that walking away would feel like a slow death.]— Jessica Day

BOOK TWO: 5 ⭐️
- I rooted for Aric James and Jill, I felt the desperation in their love. It was brutal and jarring at times but that made their love real and true.
- Knowing what was to come splintered my heart and I cried some stupid big tears.

[…you are my real … my truth. You are the only clarity in this whole fucked-up mess.]— Aric James Monaghan

BOOK THREE: 5 ⭐️
- hello plot twist!! And WTFF
- Jackson only knew how to execute his job to perfection and how to love his sister unconditionally. I loved his character throughout and how he anchored Jill.
- I love that he got his love story with Ryn. She’s not the woman you’d pair with a man like him but she was perfect for him. I didn’t have a problem with her insecurities and her choices, as a 40+ reader, I understood her perfectly.
- this one is not for the faint of heart. I had to read these scenes fast and try not to internalise them too much.

[…She wanted to tell him that fate took her away from him because AJ needed her more, if only for a mere breath in time. But she didn’t because it didn’t matter. AJ died … and so did Jillian Knight… Jessica died to be with AJ … but she lived to be with Luke.]

If you’ve been putting off this book as I have been for years, it’s definitely worth a read.
It’s not a story you will find repeated.

This review is at longer than I thought it would be, so if you read this far then, THANK YOU.

Oh my lord.

This is just... pure perfection.

Not only is it a completely unique in that I've never read something like this before but the characters were so well developed and so damned loveable that I was invested from chapter one. Seriously.

The slow-burn is fucking amazing. The angst, not with the special characters but with the siblings as well. I mean, they beat the shit out of each other when they're bored which is hilarious. Also that. It's funny. I laughed out loud a lot and it was amazing.

There's a little suspense/ thriller aspect going on too.

I devoured the entire series in a matter of days and I laughed, cried, screamed and smiled. When you're reading a past scene, you're transported into the past and you can't help but root for the characters there. When you read a present scene, you can't help but want the characters there. There's a multiple love thing going on but no triangle. No, there love for one another is completely different and new and not at all something that can be fucked with.

This series fucked me up. I'm not even lying and I genuinely cannot express how much this series fucked me up.

I think before reading this series, I was pretty blase about the types of books I read. I didn't really put much thought into them, just as long as they sounded good. After reading this series, my standards are so damned high, it took me months to find a book that I even remotely cared for.

Seriously. If you feel like having your world rocked, your heart ripped out of your chest and then put back into it, read it. This gutted me, made me live and then gutted me all over again. I dont think I've ever been more invested in a series before and fuck, this... it just goes there.

Absolutely goes there.

Read it.

Now.

I've been thinking real hard how to summarise the book or write this review. The story is expansive but quite contained in settings. intricate & dark yet delightfully funny. It's emotionally exhaustive, yet physically ferocious and passionately replenishing. Mindtwister but still very enticing. Hence my dilemma which box to put this story in?
One of those kinds of books, where you're physically glued to the book, head burrowed deep in the words and temptation to cancel any plans of going out, showering or eating is very strong. The story is so engaging and captivating, I had to turn the pages and keep going, ignoring all the chores.
It's one of her earlier book if I'm not wrong, and you can already see she is a maestro of words. This series sets the stage for many other books to come. The characters from this series go forth and get their own books, spreading author's genius everywhere.

Most of this author's books start incredibly slow for me- beautiful character development, yes, but so slow that I've often been tempted to DNF. The reason I've kept going is because by now I know her pattern: around 60% everything suddenly picks up, the pace explodes and all that early drag gets compensated with an emotional punch that makes the jurney worth it.
Should’ve been a duet, not a trilogy

With the Jack and Jill series, I felt like we lost a bit of that original magic. I abandoned the first book twice despite all the glowing reviews, but when I finally pushed through, I ended up loving Jessica so much that she completely carried the story for me.

The second book was harder. It focuses on Jack — who I’ve always found painfully dull — and his wife Rin, who didn’t help much either. But again, Jessica’s arc was so strong and gut-wrenching that she saved the book and kept me hooked.

I went on to read the next two. Liv’s story was actually the exception — it started fast, fresh, and fun, but slowed down so much that it lost its spark. Still cute and charming, just… not quite enough.

This final book, though, never found its rhythm. It never made up for the slow start and definitely never won my heart. None of the protagonists stood out this time. Honestly, the best part of this entire series remains Jessica, even if she only appears briefly — she outshines everyone else.

When I first jumped on the Jonesie bandwagon, I was assuming that this book would have been a psychological thriller... never judge a book by it's cover. The series kept me captivated from the first word to the last sentence.

Jessica and Jude Day just witnessed their own funeral and that of their parents. Staging their own deaths, they have to leave everything behind including their loved ones, so they can be safe. So you’re thinking of a witness protection program? Nice guess but close. A few months later, with new identities, Jessica Day aka Jillian Knight and her twin brother Jude Day aka Jackson Knight, moved in to their new home in Omaha, Nebraska to start over hoping nobody gets killed. Jill made quite an impression with her neighbors everytime she picks up their mail wearing only her red boots, panties or bikini, a tank top without a bra and an umbrella. They started over with their new lives as a piano teacher for Jackson and an adult toy consultant for Jillian. Depressed after leaving her love Dr Luke Jones from her past, she finds Senior Master Sergeant Monaghan a new prospect that will awaken her heart maybe to live again? How about Jackson? As a piano tracher with a vow of celibacy, will he find his true love? Find out….This three-book series is funny, bad-ass, mysterious, entertaining, full of suspense, can’t get enough of it book.

5+++ Stars. One of the best series I have read!

If you haven't read any of Jewel E. Ann's books yet, get busy! You are missing some awesome book moments. I have just completed her 'Jack and Jill' series. This series, as well as her other books are 5 star quality.

I have been riveted to my E-Reader for the past three days. I am astounded by Ms. Ann's ability to navigate the reader through the storyline by SLOWLY building the plots and sub-plots, never fully disclosing the complexities of the story. You will notice a clue or red herring cleverly placed as you read. As the story moves forward, all the questions are answered, the pieces all fit together, and the reader will give a happy sigh of relief as their emotions are able to succumb to pre 'Jack and Jill' levels.

The story is about the love between Luke and Jessica. There is a great back story. There are multiple, dynamic secondary characters. You will find humor, angst, sadness, grief, happiness and mystery that keeps the pages turning. One facet that my mind kept returning to, was the complexity of this series. It had to be extremely difficult to compose. I am in awe of Jewel E. Ann's abilities. I love this series and have placed it on my 5 star "read-again" booklist.

The irony of this series name is not lost on me. Ironic, using the name of a child's nursery rhyme, one in which Jack a Jill didn’t fare so well. And in all honesty, I’m not sure I’ve ever read more broken characters than Jillian and Jackson Knight. Don’t let the nursery rhyme aspect fool you. This one is dark, raw, gritty, ugly and ruinous. But through it all, there's a much-needed, fragile, shining thread of hope.

Go into this one blind. There's no synopsis that can truly reflect what happens within these pages. And plan your schedule so you can read straight through all three books with no other romance reading in between. You'll be confused and befuddled. You'll wonder what the heck you’re actually reading, but stick with it. Keep reading. Persevere.

Because, at its heart, this is a story of epic, undying, soul-mate love. That thread of hope I mentioned? Grasp it and hold it tight, and it will carry you through the wreckage, destruction, and darkness into the light of healing, redemption and new beginnings. This is one that will live in my heart forever, whether I want it to or not. It may not be for every reader, but for those with the courage to jump into this world, these characters will own you, heart and soul.

I love Kate Stewart but wanted to read something by an author similar to her. So of course I went on Reddit. Sorry I just can’t trust most of (not all) the Instagram reviewers if I’m being honest. Some have good suggestions… others suggest books like the Bonds that Tie… looking at their rating of that series has proven to be a tried and true method for deciding whether that person knows a good book from just plain old smut. Anyways… I digress… back to this author who’s captivated me.

Wow. Just wow. Jewel E Ann. A new favorite author for sure. I was so absorbed in the development of these characters. The way past and present were explored simultaneously was perfect. Everything felt like it had a purpose. All the past events were told at the right time as future events unfolded. They would mirror each other, calling out similarities and differences in the love stories. It was put together quite well.

So many parts of this series squeezed my heart, made me cry, AND laugh!! The banter is just lovely. This book was everything, it was well done. I’m obsessed.

There’s multiple love stories, everything comes together so well. It was utterly heart wrenching but without the bad the good wouldn’t feel so great.
