A good beginners guide to exploring the serial killer phenomenon. Touching on many of the more prolific killers and their crimes, this book avoids being overly graphic or the use of jargon making it easy for readers new to true crime.

The chapters are short although do feature much of the more well known aspects of the crimes. I would have liked to have seen more detail and perhaps further explanation into abnormal psychology, however the author acknowledges this book to not be exhaustive of the subjects.

Very interesting!!

I have read several books about serial killers and found Clutches of Madness to be well written, easy to read, interesting and informative! Although I have read many articles by Deividas, this was the first book that I have read and I was not disappointed! The book talks about "nature vs nurture", profiling and how some of these serial killers are caught. It delves into the mind (or madness) of some famous serial killers. The book also includes several graphic photographs!

I really enjoyed this very interesting and very informative book by author Deividas Serevicius which features some of the better known serial killers. The book discusses what defines a serial killer, nature versus nurture, how and whom they kill, profiling, along with how they get away and how they get caught. I highly recommend this well written book to anyone who is a TC fan.

Interesting

This book gave a lot of intersting information about how the minds of serial killers are thought to work. However, it really was more of an overview, and not as in-depth as I was expecting.

Clutches of Madness

The book was interesting to a point. I found the essays needed more information. If the amount of essays didn't have room to add further information than some of the essays should be deleted.

Trying to understand how and why a serial killer can carry out their brutal and terrifying crimes against others is a topic of ongoing interest. In Clutches of Madness: The Real Faces of Serial Killers a number of the high profile and most well-known serial killers are covered, providing detail on their crimes and their states of mind.

A book which brings together the psychological theory of criminal profiling with numerous examples from serial killers themselves, it is an interesting and informative read for those curious about the subject. A detailed chapter on the methodologies of criminal profiling is written alongside chapters on how serial killers can get away with murder and how they have been eventually caught.

A book more for those new to the subject, it provides a solid overview populated by images which enhance the text. A quick but illustrative read into the crimes of serial killers and what hides behind their seemingly normal exterior.

Good read about what makes serial killers tick

We hear about serial killers in the news, we read about them in books, we see them portrayed in movies, but what are they all about? What makes them kill? How do they choose their victims? What are your chances of being targeted by a serial killer?

This book provides some insight into what factors might influence a person to kill and kill again. There is a section on psychological profiling and what kind of information is used to profile a criminal. The different types of serial killers and their motivations are discussed.

If you're interested in serial killers and what makes them tick, this book would be a great addition to your library.

A well researched and competently written expose on some of the world's most notorious serial killers. The writing is informative and articulate, but unimaginative. Perhaps the author feared making the story of these all-too-real monsters too lurid, but it would have been a more enjoyable read had the prose conveyed more of a stroke of genius.

Don't bother. Nothing new here at all. Choppy and just a listing of facts.
