Alberto Silva nació en Buenos Aires. Su formación académica incluye un Máster en Sociología por la Universidad de París (EPHE), un Doctorado en Letras y Ciencias Humanas (Universidad de la Sorbonne) y un Doctorado en Ciencias Políticas. Es poeta, traductor y especialista en temas japoneses y transculturales.

Entre sus libros más importantes, además de los cuatro volúmenes de la serie Zen, se cuentan La invención de Japón, El libro del haiku, El libro de amor de Murasaki, y algunos libros de poesía como El viaje, Celebración del mar y Perros calientes.
