Quite alot more action and adventure than the first book. A fast read (3hrs), it was enjoyable. I hope book 3 is available soon!

This is the second book in this series I stumbled upon, by my most read partnership, Stewart & Riddell.
It started a little woodenly, in my opinion and I was a little concerned. Interesting enough, but the language style felt a little unnatural. But that soon faded out and the story proper got going and I was not disappointed with it. The first book was spent entirely in the outer deck of the sphere that makes up the travelling biodome, preserving the life of Earth as it travels through the stars. The protagonist was born and raised in the outer deck and never left it, or indeed strayed too far from his outpost. But he has certainly travelled now. The second book is spent entirely within the mid-deck, very much an area of environmental preservation, with an ocean, a desert, a jungle and a polar region. Only they've gone somewhat wrong, what with humanity's decline and subsequent lack of maintenance. He and his android friend, Belle, have got quite an adventure on their hands. Their is a war afoot, between mutants and pure bred humans. Why are they fighting and who will win?
Intriguing series, well worth a read.

This second "sci-fi Edge Chronicles" book sees York and his robot friend Belle travel into a new area in their mission to find out why the robots, the zoids, have rebelled against the human race. The new area of the spaceship is like nature reserve- it has various habitats filled with creatures from Earth. Except things have gone a bit wrong...
Accelerated evolution has taken place and in the thousand years since leaving Earth the animals have changed dramatically. So too have some of the people, as a mutant race of people with wings and gills exists. A non-mutated race also live there, in a domed sanctuary and they despise their mutant counterparts. But as York and Belle have close encounters with both communities, it's not initially clear which one they should be more afraid of.
This expands the world of the series and then tells a story not entirely dislike The Time Machine what with the two rival human factions. It's a oft-used sci-fi trope but one that works well here in the context.
This book is by no means the most original I've ever read but it tells a decent story and am intrigued at how the story will continue from here in the next book.

Still give my thumb for book format. I mean Chris Riddell's illustration is about 50% of the book. I don't really like this scifi for beginners, I mean I'm okay @scavenger zoid, but this one too many mechanical words, empty words for me, too modern scifi.. I can't follow. I'm not english native speaker fyi
