It's been an independent four years since the death of Kayla’s husband, labeling her as a single mother. Every day is a push towards recovery for Ayden, her son. Although he is often silent- his love for his mother speaks volumes. It is the third week within January, marking Kayla’s habitual meet with Ayden’s home room teacher. They arrive to Ayden’s private elementary school on time, yet fail to defeat the line. Amongst their wait, Kayla is intrigued by an alluring father of a stunning little girl. The mysterious man alarms numerous portions of Kayla’s memory, leading her to find out exactly who he is. After receiving a play date invitation from the man who has caught her eye, Kayla finds herself deeper involved than anticipated. From a five story mansion to an intimate night alone, Kayla establishes a potent connection with Joseph.
As lusty tension arises, Kayla finds herself conflicted between her hunt for love and a millionaire man who is more power driven than affectionate.

A romance short story needs to leave me caring about the characters and swept up by their story. This one didn't do that for me. For one thing, there were some forward time jumps, which is fine so long as you instantly know this has happened. Some authors indicate this by three stars or some other symbols separating sections, using chapters or even directly stating it (as a general example, It's been three weeks since I last saw...). This author doesn't do that and also doesn't fill you in on things you need to know to make what is left out unnecessary. This makes character motivations fall flat.
Some of the writing is a bit awkward or stiff. Examples... ",,,in the sighting of my son using..." or "My thoughts have been restless since the moment I got here. How have you managed to settle in such a superior house?" or "forthwith dunking the last serving of the red liquid down his throat" or "We only spent nearly the entire night complimenting how well we find one another's development"
Sometimes words are misused - "implies" for "inquires" or "boarders" for "borders" or "forth" for "with" or "uttered" for "utterly". Sometimes words are missing entirely - "will be heading soon" for "will be heading home soon". The punctuation and formatting of the dialogue is not what is standard, making it somewhat harder to follow.
After reading this, I didn't care about either of the adults in this story and was not invested in whether they got together or not. The female character does something drastic that I found not believable under the circumstances. There were 22 bonus books included in this and I don't plan to read any of them. I did receive this at a free or discounted rate in exchange for my honest review.
