The Last Of The Gods #1

Bright's Passion

Rate this book
For Bright, being a god meant being perfect. He wasn't allowed to be weak as a to cry, to grow, or to change. As an adult, he must have no needs or desires. His duties must rule over all his actions. He is always alone, forced to live a life where the fate of his world weighs down on him. There is no rest or joy and Bright hates every second of it. Until a raven-haired witch named Adonya turns his world upside down and shows him what true love is. He knows she can destroy him, her powers over fire are increasing and are a threat to the gods. But he finds himself drawn in by her flames of passion, even though he might get burned. It's time for Bright to be selfish for the first time in his life, even if the world and everything he knows falls apart around him because of it. Will true love save him or will it destroy him?

Bright is the son of gods which makes him a god too. Born to rule over the suns, Bright only wants to be loved by his mother and be human. After a life of being asked to be strong and perfect, a brother who kind of hates him and discovering some family secrets, Bright´s story is full of hits and misses.

It was an amazing experience to rediscover the world through Bright´s eyes. He has this innocence and unknowledge of the world because he is not human so we get to see everything for the first time, it´s like being a kid again and learning how the world works. Those first chapters are well written and the experience is worth reading.

Then we have Bright´s encounter with humans and human feelings. Passion will play trick with his head and the search for love will drive him a bit crazy. We read about this mysterious raven woman who hunts Bright´s dreams but she appears really late in the book. Adonya is an interesting character.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. Like I said this God who wants to know the world, his brother (OMG, that guy is rare), the humans and the ending are worth trying.

Felt bad for Bright. He had so much love in his heart and he kept being rejected. You can see the parents point of view but still feel for this god of the Sun.

Bright is a god that wants love. He wants to have someone by his side and to keep his race alive. Gods are dying and only him and his brother are around. His brother is not exactly putting Bright on his christmas card list. More like wanting to do whatever he can to hurt him and he does. Oh does he in so many not nice ways. To the point where it puts a human in danger and it is this human who Bright loves but also who has Bright learn some awful things about his dad. The one god who didn’t openly treat him with any disdain.

Bright sees Adonya as the one to be by his side from the moment the suns show her to him. He doesn’t really trust the suns and this is a manifestation of him not really trusting himself and embracing who he is but in the end he does learn to embrace himself and the capacity to love he has and his determined ways to get the love in his life that he has for Adonya even if it destroys him in the process. Fearing that his brother will have a say in that as well.

the book is about finding who you are and your way in the world that sees you as different. About finding love and peace in your life and being happy. Bright learns early on about life and death and his responsibilities and roles. He isn’t perfect and doesn’t always learn right away but he does learn and he does have love in his heart. He is caring and kind even if some of his actions don’t always convey this. He loved his brother and knew that to keep him safe he had to push him away. This caused a drift but they did try to repair it only to have their family destroy it once again. I do hope that these two find a way to be in each other’s lives and find family with each other. Bright wants to learn and find acceptance. As he learns he learns about himself as well. He sees who he is and what he is capable of. Meeting Adonya put him in a tailspin. He learns what she is and still wants her. He wants to protect and love her and when things happen and he is left lost and lonely he finally finds who he is and trusts in himself.

A story that is well written and imaginative on how the gods are, the idea of their immortality being negligible and who controls night and day. the imagination is seen in the curse and how the story is of Bright and his brother. It is fast paced and keeps you in the moment as you see Bright learn and adapt, fall in love and find who he is. This is Bright’s story and how he finds love and a purpose only to have love slip through and his determined way to get it back.

I have read several books similar to this (or so I thought). The whole 'fall in love with an immortal' thing is, albeit, slightly overdone...But some people prefer their steak cooked that way........and some people are vegan (or a vegetarian), but that's beside the point.

This book was very unique. All of the books similar to this that I have read have been through the eyes of the one falling in love with said immortal. The mortal with a comparatively shorter life span, might I add....which is typically true when you compare an immortal to a mortal. Who'd have thought? Anyway, as I was saying, this book was different in that aspect. It was through the life of Bright, the god. It was a very new experience, as well as quite humbling, to read something like that.

There were a few awkward parts. For example, the first third of the book is mostly without dialogue, and it was beautifully written, but I found the periods of extended dialogue to be slightly stiff. As well as the fact that the time period where this book takes place is a little lost on me...they spoke with very modern language, so I would picture them in slightly-modern times, but.....

In Bright’s Passion, Bright is the God of the suns. He makes the suns rise every morning, and makes them set every night. Meanwhile, he watches time pass by, he is a witness to wars, to people starving, thievery, rape, murder. He can’t help, because if he does, humans tend to take something from him. They destroyed his family, and he has no doubts they would like to destroy him too.

Adonya is a witch with powers that make her as close to a goddess as a human can be. Bright longs to be with her – he wonders what it’s like to be with a woman, considering all the goddesses are dead. But despite her powers, Adonya is still human, and she’s as dangerous as the rest of them. Can a human and an immortal fall in love?

I enjoyed how the book focused on Bright, the immortal, rather than on Adonya, the mortal, as most fantasy books seem to do. It was an interesting read, and I enjoyed getting to know Bright. Writing from the POV of a God isn’t easy, but the author did an admirable job pulling it off.

If you enjoy fantasy romance, I would recommend Bright’s Passion.

Intesting mythos about the gods of the sun and moon. I love stories with intersting mythos. I found these characters to be flawed and passionate. I cannot wait until the next book comes out.

The characters come alive and draw you into their world in magnificent color and motion.

I give this story 4 out of 5 clouds.
