The novel-length epilogue to the best-selling vampire saga, Dark Secrets. This book is best read after the Bound series, a witty two-book spin-off of Dark Secrets following Ara’s grown daughter, Elora, and the vampire who mistakenly enters her life without knowing who she is.
Love is sacred. It needs no memory. But when memory is lost in a sickening tragedy, how can that love possibly survive?
Irreparable damage was done to David in the tombs when his wife was killed. Since then, he’s struggled to lead a human life and maintain the will to live for the sake of their son. So when he’s called to a mission at request of his new king, he accepts willingly, happy for the distraction. He could never have imagined the mission would involve a blue-eyed girl from his past. But after well-meaning friends and family decide it’s best for Ara start fresh, having no memory of her past life, David is forced to play a role and pretend he doesn’t know her, driving him into a desperate state of madness.
Ara’s memory extends only as far as the beginning of summer. Waking from a coma after a terrible accident, she’s taken to live in another country to get away from the sadness. She knows nothing of her old life. Nothing of this world she lives in. The only person she has is Brett, an ex-Queen’s Guard posing as her big brother and guardian.
On meeting David at her new school, Ara finds him overbearing and a bit creepy, falling instead for a sweet guy named Cal, who’s ancestral connections would be of great interest to someone she once knew. But David’s grip on his emotions starts to slip as he’s obligated to stand by and watch his beloved wife date other guys, and it triggers something in him that no one would ever have expected.
Can Ara fall in love with the human David again after what he does to her, or was their love ever only a result of her attraction to his vampirism?
If you thought you knew Dark David, you’re still to meet the cold, human version in this gut-wrenching epilogue about fighting for love when you’ve got nothing left to fight with.
When I read Bound 2, I was honestly satisfied with how A.M. Hudson (affectionately Angie) closed out the series. It appeared that many of the major characters that we love were back in the story and seemed to have their own happily ever afters. However, after re-reading the story again, I started to wonder what went on between the end of the story and the epilogue. It only made sense for Angie to explain how things seemed to have went to such extremes without explanation. I for one can happily say that she did not let me down.
In this story we are given an in-depth view into what went down with David and Ara, David's struggles on being a human, and what he would be willing to do to make Ara fall in love with him all over again. There were a couple times I though to myself Angie what are you doing ... you're going to ruin the story! But, I guarantee if you hang in there and keep the faith, you will laugh, cry, and yell at the characters for doing something stupid. I honestly did not want to put the book down as it felt like I desperately had to know every detail before I could rest, then start all over again. Will David be successful at winning Ara's heart, or would they remain friends? Will David be forced to remain a human or will he go back to being a vampire? Does Ara ever remember who she was before the accident? Will Ara fall in love with someone else and start her life over the way she was meant to before immortality set in? All of your questions will be answered in this book. Old and new characters are intermingled in this story of love, heartbreak, challenges, independence, family, renewal, and hope.
I for one am appreciative of all of Angie's efforts in getting this story out to us in such an amazing fashion. Thank you Angie for yet another wonderful book.
Omgoodness... I just finished and that is the ending my soul needed!!!!! in true Hudson style...this book made me furious, laugh, Cry,happy and yell! such a tragic but great book. Thank you! I have my closure. make sure you keep a box of tissues ready and let anyone near you know you might start Screaming out loud at your book! Do not pass on this book, seriously you need to read it. The ending was epic. Gives closure to Ara and David's story but left just enough room for a possible spin off years from now. But not like a massive cliffhanger, just enough of a possible hint of one. I'm so happy for these characters, I've invested so many feelings , time and allowed my house to be neglected as I buried myself deep into these books over the years. Am Hudson knows how to captivate the mind, emotions and hearts of her readers. I'm so glad she didn't leave bound 2 as the last book. This is the ending we all held our breath for and she did not fail us. I hate spoilers so I'm not giving anything away. A great book to a great series deserves the full attention of the reader with out others ruining it. The experience and the adventure in the pages of a wonderful ending to a beautiful story at your fingertips. enjoy!
****** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review *******
Once again Angie Hudson writes a fantastic book. This one is a really great conclusion to this saga. As usual with her writing I expierenced the whole wheel house of emotions. I hated the way Ara dealt with her condition and understood at the same time. I really felt David's emotions through her writing. There were great twists and turns and once again she stuck to realistic expectations of the world she created and didnt attempt to turn it into a fairytale ending. Ara deals with her condition and rebirth in a very realistic way and I always give credit to the author for this. I will really miss these characters but I finally feel like everybody( David, Ara,Elora, jason, and even Morgan) got a wrap up to their story line. I even loved to expierence David as a human like Ara first thought she'd prefer. I recieved an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book, is the book to end all series, the author has woven her magic once again and takes you on a journey filled with happiness, love, lust, intrigue, frustration and sadness. The characters, that are so richly drawn, draw you into their world and take you on an emotional roller coaster from page 1 of book 1 to the end page of this book. I would thoroughly recommend this series of books to anyone. And, once you meet one of the main characters 'David Knight' the likes of Edward Cullen and Christian Grey pale in comparison!
This was a great way to finish the series! It really tied up some loose ends and had a lot of moments that made you go wow! Sad to see the end but glad everything works out and still had twists! Great read! At times I wanted to yell at Ara but had to reign it in. Read the series and then read this! You won't be sorry!
"Wow! This book truly touched me on a new level! Move over Twilight! Be prepared to tap into an emotional roller coaster of a lifetime!"~Nook Books and More Blog
Bound by Secrets, A treat for lovers of the paranormal fiction, sees the return of David and Ara's love continued from Dark Secrets Series and the tragic ending in Bound.
I fell in love with The Dark Secrets Series so long ago. It has been a favorite read of mine for years. I was devastated when the happiness David and Ara and the ending at the completion of Bound 2 was clearly not enough for me. Even though this is,for now the ending, I had to savor this book because I'm such in love with their story and I'm sad for that but, the ending left you at a feeling of content because you knew they deserved their HEA.
I laughed, whined, fussed, literally cried a balling mess, and screamed, said a few things I'd rather not repeat, lol had my heart break and then had it put back together, and I fell in love all over again with my most favorite book boyfriend because I could see him in a level I've never seen before. Omg it was such a rush! My husband thought I was absolutely nuts but, you would read this series just by watching the emotions people endure out of pure intrigue. This SERIES is one of the Bestselling vampire series ever! Way to go Angie! You manage to pull things out of me I've never thought possible. I'm addicted to yet another of your books.
Ara has so much heart ache and pain for someone her age, and she feels so much. On a level that you just can't comprehend. I love how A.M. Hudson shows in this book as the others how mistakes have direr consequences.....and then Ara grows as a person from them.
David's character development is truly an inspiration. You get to see him like never before because he is human. He feels so deeply and I know deep down its not just the curse...or is it? Read and find out!
AM Hudson has such depth to her characters that you can visualize and see every step of their character development. It's as though you are experiencing the entire story yourself. This story is much different then your average vampire romance story. It's has plots, twist, turns only AM Hudson is capable of. If you read just one of her books you could totally relate to that. I have to admit that most books it's hard to make me cry. I was a complete mess in some parts so be prepared to order in and read through the night with this book. Your family want see you til it's through! Thank you Angie for this book!
This is the continuation of David and Ara from Dark Secret Series, if you haven't read that, you really should while it's not "necessary" to enjoy this book, it would definitely help to have the full background to be able to fully understand the past story and be able to enjoy this book and the lead up to where they are now.
I grew to love David in Ara in the Dark Secret Series, watched them grow, fight, struggle with personal challenges and enemies and then with Bound & Echoes in Silence we were left on pins and needles wondering what was to become of David and Ara.
Angie Hudson has given us the MUCH anticipated final chapters of their story, my heart broke as I read all of the horrible things they've been through, I sobbed big ugly tears as I experienced such horrible tragedy's right along with them, I jumped and squealed for them as they found their way and all the questions were answered and the story lines converged in this wonderful final chapter.
Angie's beautiful writing allows us to be right there going through it all with them and we are left feeling like we've experienced all of the pain as well as the joys right along with them.
Very few authors are able to put you IN the story not just as an observer but allow you to feel the story. Angie Hudson not only does this but she does it phenomenally, she is definitely one of my favorite authors, I will happily purchase all of her books knowing it will be just as wonderful as this.
****I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review, but was in no way influenced in what to say, this is all solely based on my own opinions ****
A phenomenal read that only AM Hudson has the ability to design. An epic conclusion to a series that I have grown to love. The story of Ara & David’s journey evolves as they experience angst and turmoil, yet rely upon the strength within themselves to move onward. Prepare yourself for an emotional read as the character’s undergo apprehension, vulnerability, love, pride, disappointment, fear, and hope. I recommend the series in its entirety, do not disservice yourself by overlooking these novels! By far, one of the most captivating stories I’ve read in quite some time. Clear your schedule and embrace Bound by Secrets, I guarantee you that you’ll not be disappointed!
Oh. My. Heart! This book! It was everything I had hoped it would be (needed it to be) and more. I fell in love with The Dark Secrets Series so long ago. I was devastated when the happiness David and Ara had finally found after so much damn suffering was ripped from them. Their ending at the completion of Bound 2 was selfishly not enough for me. It just wasn't fair. I had told myself to be content that Ara was alive and David would fight to get her back and even though she wasn't herself, it had to be enough that they could still have each other. Though deep down, it still shadowed my heart.
So needless to say, I was super excited when AM Hudson (Angie) announced she would be writing this book. It gave me immense hope that my sweet David Knight might get his happily-ever-after ending after all. However, despite my eagerness to continue into the 7th and final chapter of the Dark Secrets story, I was honestly a little apprehensive. What if things didn't work out how I wanted them to? What if he was still left broken at the end? Questions I asked myself more than once knowing I simply wouldn't be able to handle it if that were the case. (So, I'm a little obsessed.)
But now! Oh, I feel such a weight has been lifted. Bound By Secrets is THE most perfect ending to a series EVER! Angie truly delivered and reminded me through her writing that there is beauty in the dark.
I laughed, whined, literally cried, fussed, said a few ugly words to my computer screen, had my heart break and then had it put back together, and I fell in love all over again with not only my favorite book boyfriend, but the entire story as a whole. It was PERFECT! <3
*I was given an ARC of Bound By Secrets in exchange for an honest review.*
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book serves as the novel length epilogue to the series. It is essentially Ara and David re-discovering one another after yet another tragic event. Ara is not herself and David must learn to function without her and to make her love him all over again. It's rather heart-wrenching.
It's impossible to really sum up what happens without spoilers at this point, but it was nice to see David work through all his crap. And in a surprising turn of events this book made me hate Ara and feel sad for David, so good work Ms. Hudson you've managed to make me like him again wholeheartedly.
I enjoyed seeing Jason again and when Ara started to be a bit more normal again, it was nice to see that the spark between them was still there despite the fact they are with someone else. It was just nice that the didn't ignore that they loved one another. Plus, I'm happy with how Jason's story turned out, and while I would have preferred he be Ara's pick, I actually think in the long run he wound up with the better life.
The story ends in a really nice and happy way, leaving just enough open if the author ever wants to revisit the story, but also being a sufficient ending to the series.
I'm attached to these characters now and the ending made me feel a bit like losing my family. I'll definitely read this series again. Until next time...
Bound by Secrets ( Dark Secrets, #7) is the last in the series and to me by far the most touching and emotional book yet. A.M. Hudson outdid herself with this one. With all her series she can bring forth to life such pure emotions with her readers and her characters that all will be drawn in to such wonderful stories.
Ara and David's story itself is a masterpiece. The depth of their love for one another is more than it, it's such a tragic yet wonderful recollection of what they once had and what they have now. As her memory starts to show her of some things, she is still unsure of herself and if it just the curse fueling David's love for her now.
Come along to be reunited with David and Ara, Drake. Jason, Lily, Elora, and Lilith even. Oh and don't forget Arthur. I highly recommend starting this series and reading thru them all to really get the gist of this final book.
Awesome and Awe-inspiring are my takes on this one.
Another amazing addition to the Dark Secrets series, wrapping it all up and giving the answers I've been waiting for. I loved the whole series, and this final installment didn't disappoint! Ara is back, but she doesn't remember her past, David, her family, or any of the horrible torture she endured in Bound/Bound 2. David is still in love with her, of course, but Ara is adamant that she's not who she was, that she's a new person, a different Ara. They fight and struggle, and of course there's the curse to deal with, where any guy with a beating heart falls in love with her, and that only helps to drive that wedge between Ara and David. She dates other boys as David sits back, doing everything he can to ruin those dates before they happen, because he can't imagine his wife being with anybody else. We see Ellora and Harry, and Falcon, Mike, Drake, Emily, Ali, and even Morgana. Nothing more can be said without giving away spoilers, but this book was just so, so good, and it finally completed their stories and laid everything out to be understood. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I so did not want this book to end...and if I'm really honest, I did not want the Dark Secrets Series to end....but what an ending it was! It wasn't just what I wanted for the ending to one of my absolutely favorite series, but it was what I needed it to be.
Bound by Secrets was an emotional roller coaster...a whole gamut of human emotion....with some action and big surprises at the end. A.M. Hudson is an amazing storyteller. I never get deja vu while reading her books....there is always some plot twist that takes it from ordinary to extraordinary. There are so many authors that think the way to end a series is with the shock and awe factor....which usually includes horrible love triangles, breaking up, or (the absolute worst) killing off our beloved characters. This book was so much more! When an author can spin an awesome story without all that to keep you reading, then you know you have found something special. Just read the book! You definitely won't be disappointed!
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
In this last book of the Dark Secret Series - Bound by Secrets continued telling the story on Ara's journey of recovery back to her former self. This book alternating between David and Ara POV had made my emotions running like a roller coaster. At times when I read David's part, I was so mad with Ara for being childish, and when it's from Ara's point, I felt like killing the mortal David. The author did an excellent job tying up all the loose end, and I felt content knowing that in the end, they all get what they deserved. A happy life reunited with people that they'd lost with Aubrey's talent! Wow, that just made me so happy.
At the moment, I think I have had enough of Ara's world, and I'm satisfied with her being with David that I don't want to read the other spin-off series of 3 books telling a story about 'What if' Ara is with Jason and also another novella called In My blood. But who knows, maybe in future when I missed the world, I'll come back to read those lovely books. But for the moment, I didn't want to spoil the happiness and restart again to the point where we see Ara in her weakest moment of life.
Let me start by saying, I was one of the privileged few to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I almost dreaded reading this book. Not because I thought it would be bad, but because I didn't want the series to end. I'm extremely glad that I decided to accept the end and read it though. It's the perfect finale to David and Ara's story. After everything they've been through, they deserved to tell their story their way, and they have. People who haven't read this series may find it odd that I am referring to the characters as if they were real people. Trust me. Once you read this series, you will understand. Ms. Hudson doesn't write stories. She creates a world then invites you to live in it. And it is an absolute privilege to live in this world for a while. There were times I actually had to put the book down just to assure myself all was still right with the world. It was so humbling to watch David go through all the emotions he felt. In the past novels he was always so stoic. Even to his a own detriment. So to see him actually break down, was heart wrenching but so needed. At points it almost felt like David and Ara swapped personalities. It was also nice to see how everything over the years affected others as well, especially Falcon. And, although her part in this story is minimal, seeing how the curse has affected Emily was insightful too. I think my favorite aspect of this story is the struggle for love and normality in a world that doesn't nurture either. So many books make love look easy. This series never has, and that's still true. I loved that David and Ara had to fight to not only find the love they thought was lost, but to find a stronger version of it. So many questions were answered in this book. A lot I didn't even realize I was asking. I don't like spoilers so I have left them out. There is, however, an event close to the end of the book that I'm hoping will eventually be the inspiration for a follow-up novel. (Hint hint). Once you read it, I'm sure you'll know what I'm referring to. This is an absolute must read to finish this wonderfully epic journey. But, since I promised to be honest, I have to admit something. I know this is the end of this journey, but in the spirit of honesty, I sincerely hope there will be more to come. When one journey ends, another begins. I really hope another journey is just around the corner for this world and more importantly, these wonderfully lovable characters. Even when I wanted to hate certain characters because of circumstance, I truly couldn't being myself to. I love them all and will miss them. So to sum it up, be sure to clear your calendar before starting this book because you will not want to be interrupted for anything. And prepare yourself for one heck of a book hangover. But, rest assured, the hangover is with it for sure.
If you had it all to do over again, would you make the same choices?
Someone asked me at a gathering recently, if you could choose, would you choose your spouse again? That’s the question AM Hudson asks in the final installment of the saga of David and Ara. Bound by Secrets is published as a standalone novel, which any reader will enjoy on its own merits. However, it is also the last book in the Dark Secrets and Bound series.
Am Hudson takes us on the journey with David and Ara. You will laugh. You will cry. You may be in danger of throwing your kindle and yelling at the universe. Readers who already love Hudson’s books will find the ending satisfying. New readers are bound to fall in love with the characters. Hudson shows a lot of courage in reinventing characters that she has created and nurtured for 7 books, but readers will just love them all the more and cheer them on from the sidelines. Not to give too much away, Ara is resurrected from a rather tragic death. Her body is the same, but her mind is a blank slate. She remembers nothing of her old life, not her husband, her children, or her family. She also doesn’t remember any of the horrific things that happened to her throughout her life. Nor does she remember the 20 years of joy that followed. David is in the position of desperately loving his wife while being confronted with the proposition that Ara isn’t the same woman who died. While her body is the same, her soul is mostly the same, she has the same DNA, her life experiences are very different. Who she is is fundamentally different. Can David still love the new version of his wife? Can Ara fall in love with David?
All good books engage the imagination and explore the human condition. They make us think about our lives, the world, and explore the very fundamental essence of what it means to be human, even when your characters live in the world of the supernatural as various species of Vampire. Throughout the series, Hudson has asked us to explore what it means to love. Can the heart heal from grief and tragedy to love again? Is it possible to love two people with all of your heart and soul? Is it possible to forgive someone you love when they have hurt you badly and in truly unforgivable ways? Does love truly conquer all?
This book made me examine my own relationship with my husband of nearly 20 years. I’ve always felt a deep connection to David and Ara. I saw a lot of us in them, minus the blood, horror, and tragedy of course. Like them, we met young though he’s older. Like them, we had to grow up and figure out what love means and how to make it work throughout all of the ups and downs life throws your way. I have to admit, on this very cold Valentine’s Day, my choice is clear. I would choose him again, again and again. After all, who wouldn’t want to experience falling in love again. Even us old married folks.
What an amazing ending to one of the most epic love stories I have read!!! David & Ara have been through so much throughout their lives, but in the end they got through it and their love was unbreakable. This book brought us back to their roots; where everything started. I loved watching David & Ara fall in love all over again. Ara is one of the most compassionate characters I have ever read about. Her growth as a person, a wife, a mother & a leader throughout this series is amazingly written. David, I swear this man can get me hot & bothered one second then the next I want to smack him!! He is the most complex yet beautifully written dark hero characters I've had the pleasure reading about. This book is filled with adventure, unconditional love, experience in falling in love all over again, trust & forgiveness. A.M. Hudson's writing will take you to another realm that you won't want to leave. This is one of those books that will leave you happy, wanting more & in a book hangover. This ending was like a balm to my soul. This book couple is one of my all time favorite's and they deserved this ending!!! I am very excited to see what A.M. Hudson comes out with next and to see if she will write books on the other characters in the Dark Secrets series!!!
First, let me say that this is my FAVORITE vampire series. Please make sure this isn't the first book you read. Start with Dark Secrets, and go from there. I've been reading this series for the last three years, and this book has left me feeling like I know these characters personally. The author picked up this book right where the storyline left off in the last one. Ara is just coming back, and now David and Ara are basically starting over. This left me heartbroken from the very beginning. I hated that these two weren't immediately together, but I knew the author wouldn't let me down because she's done such a great story line with all of the books in this series. All the characters were back and better than ever. The story lines continued in this book and wrapped up nicely. The writing itself was done very well (as all the other books in this series). I would definitely give this book a full solid five stars. It's definitely a must read and a re-read. I would LOVE to see this series on HBO as a tv series. I'm also hoping to see some of these characters spinoff into their own books.
WOW! I don't even know where to start! Such an amazing ending to a series that has been such a big part of my life :) this book will bring so many emotions, frustration, sadness, frustration some more, and finally happiness! you will laugh and cry, and want to throw your book down! Ara and David's story needed closure, and Angie definitely delivered! Even though I am sad for this series to be over, I am so thankful the ending they received! Angie Hudson is brilliant in her work, and this is definitely no exception, she has surely outdone herself.
AM Hudson does it again! An excellent conclusion to the series. A roller coaster of intense emotions and unconditional love that had my heart racing. Loose ends are tied up, including some I didn't even realise I wanted answers to and yet, it has been left in such a way that the author can revisit if she wishes to. I really do hope this isn't the end for these amazing characters that I have grown to love and feel like I have journeyed experienced life with. It will be hard to say goodbye. Another fantastic book by AM Husdon and I'm looking forward to what's to come next.
Sigh This book was nothing short of amazing. Questions are answered, blanks filled in and secrets revealed. AM Hudson takes us on a journey of two long lost lovers fighting to find themselves and their way back together. There are moments that will make you sob, times you are in the edge of your seat waiting for them to push past their stubbornness and just be together, you will be stunned when the secrets come out. But nothing can prepare you for how the series ends.
This is a fantastic book. A M Hudson can bring the characters to life and transport you into their world. Really loved reading the series and it's one I will keep and rad again and again. Even though the series has been brought to an end, their is a chance the story could be revisited due to the children well at least I hope and pray that their is.
WHAAAAAAAAT, HOLY IS THERE ANOTHER BOOK IN THIS SERIES.
BRRRRB DYING HOW. WHEN. IS IT CHRISTMAS????!!!!
*post read*
Angie has long been a favorite author of mine, I consider her dark secrets books to be the hidden tresure of the YA paranormal romance world. I am continually shocked that these books remain relatively less known than others in the genre. I have recommended them to countless friends and they too have loved them as much as I have. The story arc and character development through these series is amazing, no one character has remained static nor have the relationships. Ara alone became who she was meant to be after realizing she doesn't need David to hold her hand and help her through everything. Just when you think you finally understand these complex characters Angie changes up the dynamic once again. It was absolutely fantastic seeing how Jason has evolved now that he is not shunned by the Vampire community. Elora and Ric continue to be a delight. Throughout the series many of us had wondered whether the outcome would have been the same had David not been a Vampire when he first met Ara. Would things have been the same? Human David is flawed, sweet, tortured and so very real. As long as Angie writes these books I will continue to read. It never once feels like it's being dragged out and the there is no more story to tell.
This book is! Wow! I'm bind blown how easily AM Hudson can change my mind. I was not happy AT ALL when I learn that it would almost be like a rerun of book one in the romance part. But while I kept reading I got more and more involve and I learn why this had to happen. I loved how AM answer all they may bes in this book about Ara and David while also keeping up the twist and turns that makes her such a great writer. I'll continue of this journey that Dark Secret is!
Enjoyed every second I spent reading these books...Ara & David...The adorable Jamson & Cal...simply loved all the characters..love this Authore...simply fabulous. X ❤
First half I’d have given three stars simply because Ara had returned to her immature state from back in book two. It got better as it progressed but it was still a little on the bland side compared to the rest of the series.
I've been following this series since the beginning and an now just having time to catch up.. This will make you laugh, cry and be angry and make all of the characters you love that much more special!! Can't wait to read the Next books!!
