I am torn over this one and am once again in the minority of readers, but I just did not love it. I just managed to finish it as I really hate not finishing a book, so in saying that I rated it 3 stars because I finished it. This had some darkness to it, and would be hard to read for some people, but I love dark and the darker the better, but it has to work in well with the story. For me this was not the case. Madison, Liam and Scott all came across to me like teenagers, but they were all in their late 20’s. Some of the banter was immature and Liam and Scott did not come across as “top of their field” agents. Lots of things did not work for me, but I am not sure this was the authors fault. I just think I am getting harder to please lately, and sometimes you are just not in the mood for a certain book, so I say give it a go and decide for yourself.

***This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.***
(Warning…contains some spoilers.)
I don’t even know where to begin; I feel like I need a moment to process everything that is this book…A Beautiful Masterpiece. It was just…oh my god. This book was so dark and twisted but managed to throw in some romance against all of the Chaos. Liam and Scott make beautiful male lead characters. Scott is tough, but strictly by the book, boy next door who can kick ass. Liam is the beautifully twisted and damaged seasoned FBI agent who has seen more than his share of messes. Even though Scott is Maddison’s choice, you can’t help but root for Liam and hope that she could save him. This book will make you go, what the fuck, while simultaneously pulling on your heart strings. Warning: YOU WILL CRY, if you have a heart that is. The author has one hell of a mind and that morbid curiosity that brings depth and richness to this dark tale. She masters the first person POV, though it can be a little hectic with the way the author gives everyone in the book their own POV moments. It can be a lot to take in and sometimes hard to follow, but it doesn’t detract from the story once you get a feel for the book, which doesn’t take long. Trying to talk about everything great in this book, I could be here all day. So instead I tell you dear readers, the morbidly curious, the lovers of darkness and hot sex scenes, READ IT. I promise you won’t regret it.

What the heck …. No. This will be a short review as I cant say much about anything because I don’t want anything given away and right now .. just no. Good emotions for an author to have from a reader yes but good for you as the reader .. just no. In a great way but that's about all I can mutter right now.

Madison Harper has been brutalized. Her father is horrific. How does this even get written? I mean Gen .. whoa. Im not telling you why or what or what the deal is but Madison finds herself working along side two FBI agents; Liam O Leary and Scott Reynolds. These two men are complete opposites of course. In the thrones of the pages you will find out that Scott has known Madison prior but again not telling you how or why. I mean just when I thought I knew what was waiting around the corner in this tale of torment .. uh no. This is one horror filled fun house of holy sh*ts. Im just going to say there is evil living on these pages and if you are like me you are going to love it.

There is only one problem for me …. You will find out … keep turning … just keep turning and it may or may not be an issue for you. Seriously this is a what the hell did I just read book and its sooo good. Throw away your dolls too ... you will understand.

Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets – Thank you for the ARC … holy shit.

Warning: If you have triggers from violence, abuse or deep seated psychological issues do not click this book.

Beautiful Masterpiece is dark, intense and very twisted. I like those types of books but this one had me asking myself if I wanted to continue, it's deep dark. It's told in 3 different POVs with the main being Maddison. I think with the different views you get more understanding of the different characters and it makes the storyline stronger, it's flows nicely together. Maddison and Liam have messed up pasts and both coped differently. Scott is a true knight in armor and just wants to be with Maddison.

My emotions were all over the place and my heart raced throughout. I enjoyed the whole cat and mouse game throughout. At first I had a hard time connecting to the characters but as I continued I became pretty attached. Without giving spoilers I was a little disappointed with how some of the story played out for some characters and was hoping for a different outcome but in the end it all worked out. If you need something dark and twisted this is the novel for you. There are some trigger subjects within the whole book just a warning.

It is dark and twisted. The book is told by each characters perspective which was great. You learned about each chapter. I would like to have the book not as dragged out as it was though. I would have liked to have seen more action in the book. This is the first dark and twisted book I have read. The book was well written but lacked in only a few things. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Gen Ryan.

There are fates worse than death...

Often we presume to view another's perspective by our own predisposition, and cannot fathom why others do not see and function as we do, or as we -want- them to.

It is rare to acknowledge such a concept, even more rare; is to temper our perception with this concept.
And then there are those who can present the concept to us.

Gen Ryan gives us a story with characters that are believable as they are memorable.
In this story we primarily follow Madison; a tragic soul, tainted by darkness, tempered by light, and haunted by a horrific past.

I am not a fan of the dark, sometimes disturbing, sometimes horrifying themes the author presents.
However, I am an avid fan of any work that presents the many facets of 'the human condition' and this story does not disappoint.
There seems to be a level of familiarity with such things, that will certainly strike a profound chord for those who are familiar with it too.

But more than that; the author presents a very compelling glimpse into the mind and soul of those who have fallen from the light. The struggle of a noble soul... It's like... Like the desperate coughing breaths of one who just wants to breathe in peace just once more.

Not that the story makes excuses, or absolves such darkness, but reveals the tragic desperation that precedes a fall, and the desperate depravity... The despere desire for peace, at any cost.

There is love, there is a quasi-love triangle, a 'finding-ones'self' themeset. All are well written with a flair of "I want" vs "but what-is-right?"

There are a few moments that breaks immersion as it suspends belief, surrounding unlikely circumstances... but the force of writing makes you quickly forgive them.

And in the end, when I turned the last page, i asked myself the right questions.

Where does evil begin?
How do you recognize it in yourself?
How do you face it?
How do you stop it?

The hallmark of good writing if you ask me.

I don't even know how to describe my feelings for this book. I have so many emotions going through me. First off I'll just say I loved this book. It'll be one of those books that I'll catch myself thinking about months, years down the road. It has such a lasting effect on you. Gen's writing is brilliant, the book pulled me in from the first page.

Our 3 main characters are Madison, Scott, and Liam. Madison is independent, she's trying to get her life on track. She's very responsible, studious but still vulnerable. She's still damage by what her father did but she's trying to overcome her past to have the future she wants. Scott is a guy from Madison's past. He plays by the rules, is very observant. He's sweet but will protect what is his. Liam is a wildcard, he's very damaged by his past but still wants to save people. I had a lot of theories about these characters that surprised me when they didn't happen. I was also shocked at some stuff that did happen. Needless to say you will be surprised with this book, there's a lot of twist and turns.

The ending will blow you away, I was happy with it. There's just so much more I can say but I don't want to give anything away. So if you like a psychological thriller with some steamy sex scenes definitely read this one. Amazing job Gen Ryan!! Thank you for writing such an incredible book.

From the first page of this book I was hooked. The first chapter had my jaw dropping and tears forming already, letting me know this was going to be a heart-wrenching and amazing read. I was not disappointed in the least. This book was a beautifully written masterpiece in itself.
The characters are well-developed and some are damaged in ways you could never imagine or want to know. When the story began I thought I already knew how it would end, but there were plot twists and surprising moments that I didn't see coming. The author did an amazing job of delving into a twisted mind and making you feel the many emotions throughout the book; fear, anger, hopelessness, love, empathy, and even some optimism at times. Some of the descriptions kept me from reading late at night because it gave me the creeps and I knew I'd never sleep if I went to bed thinking about it.
The overall mood of this story is pretty dark and twisty, but there is a romance aspect to the story that lightens the mood at times too. I'm surprised I could write this much of a review because in truth the book left me speechless. This is the first book I've read by this author (I think it might be her first book altogether) but I definitely want to read more of her work! In summary: Fantastic book....Go read it now.

*arc received in return for an honest review from Amos Book Corner*

I was really intrigued by the blurb of this book so I was so happy when the arc came through.

I love dark reads and as each one I read comes to an end I think omg i didn't think I could read darker then Boom I can !!

This was amazing I thought half way through I kinda had it Sussed what was going to happen but sweet lord I did not !! Just when you think you're going one way whoosh we're going in another direction, I loved the pull in this it kept it interesting.

I really enjoyed that this has a little thriller in it, I loved that we got to be inside the head of these characters and to try and understand where all these mixed up feelings came from and how it was going to dictate how life was going to go, but only who's life would hang in the balance ???

This book has the feels from the first chapter I was taking on a journey that had me kept on the tips of my toes right until the end & I cannot wait for the next book.

What an amazing debut !! This was written so amazingly well and flowed perfectly throughout.

Fab book 5 lovely Stars from Amos Book Corner.

This book had me from the very first page. I just sat enthralled the entire time I kept turning the pages. This is such a dark book and I'm not sure what I was expecting after reading the synopsis, but it wasn't this. It was SO MUCH MORE!!!! My emotions are all over the place after reading this one. Ms. Ryan has a brilliant mind to write with the kind of detail she did in this psychological thriller. But of course it's more than that. There's some heat involved somewhat of a love triangle that will work itself out by the end of the book.

How Madison survived the horror of her childhood speaks volumes about who she is as a woman. The fact that she wants to work in a career that will hopefully either prevent others from experiencing the horrors she survived or finding the scum that are like her father.

I can't really say too much more because I would inadvertently give away a spoiler or two. My suggestion to you is to run, not walk to 1-click on this book. You won't be sorry!

Thank you to Gen Ryan and Hot Tree for the pleasure of reading this book in advance.

Madison Sky Harper has a goal of getting into the FBI after she finished her PhD. Her dad, Michael Walsh, killed her mom and hurt and killed other girls and wanted to kill Madison herself. Luckily her father has been in jail but when he escapes her life plans change drastically.

Keeping Madison safe are two totally different agents. Liam James O'Leary is an agent who is battling his own demons after being abused as a child and still has flashbacks and nightmares. Agent Scott Reynolds is from Madison's past and will do anything he can to keep her safe and let her know how he has never forgotten her.

As Liam, Scott and Madison battle to stay one step ahead of Michael he seems to be all knowing of where they are and what he can do to hurt Madison the most.

When Madison is about to go head to head who will be on her side and will she realize that not everyone can be saved no matter how much we try?

This was such a great book but very dark.

Madison had to overcome so much to get where she was and I loved that her PhD was so dark but had true merit. She was strong and faced so much evil in her world yet knew that she could overcome it. At the same time she was torn between Liam and Scott.

Liam O'Leary was dealing with his own demons and had hoped that becoming an agent would help suppress everything yet he seemed to only get his demons under control with alcohol and sex. He was attracted to Madison and hated that she had feelings for Scott.

Scott Reynolds held a special place in Madison's life and it wasn't hard to understand why she let him into her heart. Yet he had to keep Madison safe and not let her get down with Liam's behaviour.

I loved the friendships that developed while Madison was in the Academy, even though there were questions to why she was there.

There were so many twists and turns and I couldn't understand how Michael knew so much yet he was so evil that I wasn't surprised. The ending totally shocked me and made me super sad but I did understand why it had to be done.

I can't wait for the next book in the series! - By Rebecca

Beautiful Masterpiece is the first book in the Thin Red Lines series by Gen Ryan. The story is very deep and dark, twisted and disturbing, terrifying and truly intense. Gen Ryan gives you a look into the twisted minds and souls of those who have been lost to the darkness. It is a psychological thriller that captures you and you can’t let go, much like a horror that you watch behind you fingers but can’t turn it off. Gen writes in different points of view which helps you find the deeper meaning behind each character, it definitely helps the story flow and melds it together nicely.

Maddison is a haunted young woman who had a horrific childhood that she is trying to run away from and lead a normal. But what is normal? Normal is not the serial killer father who killed her mother and got caught just shy of murdering her too. Normal is not looking over your shoulder and experiencing fear from a man who has escaped jail and is now playing with her.

Liam is a haunted young man who had a horrible childhood that he is trying to run away from and lead a normal life. But what is normal? Normal is not the dark thoughts he has. Normal is not acting on those dark thoughts and the voices he can’t keep at bay. His past haunts him but he has just found the one thing that may save him.

Scott is a knight in shining armour, he has not stopped thinking about the little girl who lived next door, the little girl he saved from certain death. Now he is face to face with the past and his job is to protect her at all costs, even if it is from herself.

My emotions were all over the place as I read this story and you find yourself getting attached with these characters. I enjoyed the whole thrill of the chase game throughout the story. There is a lot of dark and terrible things happen in this book that could be triggers for some people so tread carefully but if you like something dark and twisted then this is the book is for you.

Beautiful Masterpiece is nothing like I thought it would be based on its title. Gen Ryan had me from the very first page. I was into the book so fast and it was a page turner from page 1, literally.

The tagging on this book says it is a dark, suspense, and a psychological thriller. I love psychological thrillers, but they don't always meet up to my expectations; however, Beautiful Masterpiece most definitely fits that genre and did not let me down at all.

The story begins with a flashback of Aimee, then a very young child, who watches as her father But the neighbor boy saves the day for her by

This book completely blew me away! Beautiful Masterpiece by Gen Ryan is book one in the Thin Red Lines series and the first I have read by this author. It is told from multiple points of view with a happy ending.

This is a twisted, dark story filled with suspense and action. The characters are raw and real and the events that take place are disturbing! And once you figure out where the title of the book comes from, that’s messed up too. Madison Harper has a new name and a new life, graduating college and getting ready to join the FBI, to save girls from a fate she grew up around. I liked watching her grow in this book, she became stronger and more confident, more sure of herself, and made true friends. Scott has never forgotten that little girl, and coincidentally is in the FBI now. He is sweet and kind, with a bit of a jealous streak. Well jealousy also hits the third person in this trio that were thrown together- Liam. Poor Liam. He went through some stuff in his past and is trying to deal with it all on his own. He has a lot of internal struggles, between being a good guy or letting the darkness take over.

At first this really felt like she was going to be torn between two men. But obviously that takes a backseat to the fact her dad is out of prison. Gen Ryan has a way with words. I was completely drawn into this story, not putting it down for anything. It was upsetting and shocking, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this and plan to read more from this author, especially the other books in the series. Seriously one of the best things I have read in a long time.

Beautiful Masterpiece is book one in The Thin Red line series by Gen Ryan. It is a very dark but very gripping psychological thriller that I could not put down and is worthy of translating to a big screen movie.

This book is written from the points of view of the main characters, Madison, Liam and Scott. Madison has been through hell and back from a very early early age. Just as her life is taking a good turn the past comes back with a vengeance. Scott has not seen Madison for years but has never forgotten her or their bond. Liam has strong feelings for Madison but also has a past that strongly jeopardises his future.

This is not a typical love triangle at all. Not just because of the nature of the story but because of the characters and the many layers they have. They are brilliantly written and you really feel the emotions they go through.

The story is very well put together and, at times, disturbing and shocking. It has twist and turns that you just don't see coming and some that give you warning and build up that you really wish weren't coming.

I really like reading books in this genre and have two favourite authors who write them. Now I have three and Gen Ryan has bumped one of them down to second place!

I you love psychological thrillers with a lot of kick, you have to read this book and any other by Gen Ryan. I am so pleased that this book is one of series. This was a mind blowing read.

Beautiful Masterpiece (Thin Red Lines Book 1) by Gen Ryan is a thrilling suspenseful novel that I gave 5 stars. It is written in alternating first person POVs by the three main characters: Madison, Liam, & Scott.
This book had me on edge the entire time! Such an exciting fast paced read!

This novel is about Madison Harper’s life from haunting childhood to ambitious adult. It starts with her on her way to becoming a FBI agent, driven to protect the innocent after living through her own horror story as a child. But the past is never far behind, and when the man responsible for her own personal hell escapes she must fight her demons to help capture him. Two agents are sent to train and protect her at all costs. Liam and Scott are complete opposites but both must work together to keep her safe. They teach her so much more than field work, though;) Liam is hot & dangerous, not one to get tied down by a girl yet he is captivated by Madison. Scott is the handsome “Boy Scout” type who saved her in the past, and yearns to comfort her now. Will they be able to stay safe, and work together to end her nightmare once and for all?
Wow! This book had me GOING! All the characters were well developed, and the story had great flow! Fair warning-there is graphic violence, explicit sex, etc so this book is strictly for adults to enjoy. Which I did, immensely! I can’t wait to read more from this amazing author!

I actually loved so much about this book. It was incredibly intense and fast-paced as well as being all about trying to find the light through all of life's darkness. I enoyed seeing Maddie grow and become the stronger, self-assured woman she always should have been. Scott's consistency, faithfulness, and light truly helped both Maddie and the reader survive all of the trials and tribulations that Maddie faces in her life. But honestly, Liam is probably who brought me to my knees more than any other. You could see how hard he fought, but he was already losing the battle before he ever found the one person who may have been able to make him see he could survive and that even though the darkness may never be completely gone, he could be more than and better than what his life previously contained. The only thing I wish the author would have done a bit differently and would have led to a full 5 star review from me would have been to lessen the choppiness in the first few chapters and give us more of Liam's story. For instance, we got the general idea of why there was so much tension between Liam and Scott prior to Maddie's appearance, but we never get the details of the situation. Additionally, while we see a couple of scenes regarding Liam's past so we see how bad things were for him at times, but we don't have enough information about his teen and young adult years. What kept pushing him into the dark?

Beautiful Masterpiece by Gen Ryan is a masterpiece! The first novel in the Thin Red Lines series will put you on the edge of your seat from the very first page. Beautiful Masterpiece may contain sensitive issues that may cause triggers, so beware that this novel is not for the faintest if hearts.
From the very first page, I knew that Beautifiul Masterpiece was going to be an interesting read. It was interesting to read how the characters felt and the complexities and flaws of their character, especially when it came to Liam. I felt for his character and the struggles that he face when young and older.

I have read very few novels that concentrate on mental health, and how mental health affects their lives. It was very refreshing to read, as it’s usually not that easy to discuss in society today.

If I’m honest, I felt that in the romance department, it felt slightly rushed. But even with that, I thoroughly loved the story. I could have read the novel without the romance. The main story is what pulled me in, and I loved every second.

Overall, I loved the novel. It was dark, interesting and so incredibly written. Gen Ryan did a spectacular job on this novel, and it was worthy of more than five stars! Brilliant!

Beautiful Masterpiece by Gen Ryan is book one in the Thin Red Lines series. This story centers on Maddie who is in the process of finishing up school and joining the FBI. Her wanting to join the FBI is an effort to right her father’s wrongs. Her father is a serial killer who escapes prison to come after Maddie. Scott and Liam are FBI agents and are put on Maddie’s protective detail. While Scott and Maddie’s back stories are tied together, Liam’s backstory is dark and twisted and you don’t really know what happened to him until later in the book. I would have loved to have spent more time on Liam’s backstory. While Maddie’s father is a main character, I feel like his character is often overlooked. I would have liked to have read more from his point of view and had more flashbacks to the events that took place. Maybe more dialogue between him and Maddie in an effort to give more explanation. I enjoyed the female friendships Maddie makes with other FBI trainees. I’m hoping one of the books in the series focuses on Grant, as you know there is a story there! The story is well written overall and the transition between the characters are smooth. It was a good book and I will definitely be reading more.

Beautiful Masterpiece by Gen Ryan was so so so good. This book deals with some triggering and sensitive topics so should be read by mature audiences only. It is sort of a psychological thrill that is dark and mysterious but completely hooks you. I was done for in the first chapter, hooked and all. I was scared for Madison because of her father. I couldn't figure out who I was rooting for, Scott or Liam. But everything came together wonderfully. Each character has an awful past that while vastly different, ties them together and forms a bond. Scott and Liam are to protect Madison but will she do some protecting and helping as well? But, not everyone can be saved. This book didn't take long to finish because I just needed to know what happened. Can't wait to read more from Gen!

This dark and twisted romance story is written from 3 persons POV.

In this story we meet Maddison who wants to join the FBI. However, her father is one of the FBI most wanted criminals and he is out looking for her so she is put under the care of two seasoned FBI bodyguards. Liam & Scott – Her old next door neighbour.

You find yourself turning each page with a gasp and the author takes you on a seriously messed up journey.

It’s very hard to leave this review without giving away too much of the book. But If you love a dark twisted story with loads of plot twists then this book is the book for you.
