"Robin Hamilton, successful New York attorney and seventies’ rock devotee, is poised to reveal a secret that will alter the course of three lives.

One winter evening, Robin and her adult daughter Lark are watching a television documentary when Lark unexpectedly spots her mother in a concert crowd, twenty-one, luminous, and perched on the shoulders of a handsome young man. That man is Lark’s father, Dean Falconer, though neither of them knows the truth. Robin decides it’s time to come clean.

Flashback to 1977. Robin Hamilton meets Dean Falconer at a rock concert in Washington, D.C. The two fall in love over the course of a single transcendent weekend.

But now Robin hasn’t spoken to Dean in thirty-five years. While Lark is enthusiastic about meeting her father, Robin must deal with what could have been after three decades of loneliness and broken dreams.

A spring full of revelations, and one extraordinary summer in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia will teach these three people the ultimate measure of honesty, passion and devotion.

In Robin’s Nest is a richly detailed story of love and loss; secrecy and truth; and ultimately redemption, resplendent in poignancy and charm. It’s about embracing your choices, the ties that make a family, and finding that it’s never too late."

I believe in second chances. The theme has surprised me by prancing into every one of my books. So many people live out their lives without getting what they want or what they need. Instead, they settle for less, subsisting instead of making things happen.

As you get to know my characters, I want you imbued with a sense of hope and possibility--with the magic that can happen when someone first pokes a toe out of her comfort zone and decides to make things happen. I want you to relate to my discretely individual characters who, like most women, desire and deserve true love; authentic relationships, whether they be friends, mothers, grown children, lovers, or partners; and work that is meaningful. I want you to care about the character's emotional hurts and the misunderstandings that cause them to stumble and to cheer them on as they make choices that ultimately lead them to create empowered and fulfilling lives. As you read the last page, I hope my work will have given you that "Aww-that-was-so-good" feeling that makes you want to hop up and share the story with your best friends.

As an evocative writer, I bring strong images, memories, or feelings to mind. You will find my work filled with vivid metaphors, unique prose, and detailed descriptions that make you feel part of the scene. And alliteration. I go gaga over glorious alliteration. That's the kind of book I enjoy reading myself. My stories will always involve friendship and a love interest for my main character. You'll find swoon-worthy love scenes, but the sex will be "behind closed doors." You will find conflict at every turn, tension on most pages, and "cliffhangery" scene and chapter enders. I hope my overall style pleases and resonates with you and further deepens your reading experience.

I enjoy working with other writers through my freelance editorial business Four Eyes Editorial. I live with my husband and a pair of puppers in a sweet spot of South Carolina, between the Blue Ridge Mountains and some of the country's most beautiful beaches. I can be found reading or enjoying a glass of sauvignon blanc on my screened porch, gardening, at a yoga class, working at my blue desk, or at a farmer’s market in search of the perfect heirloom tomato.

Elizabeth Sumner Wafler's enchanting debut novel, In Robin's Nest, is a perfect feel-good summer read. The story is a rotating first person narration by three characters: Robin, Lark, and Dean, though Robin is clearly the lead protagonist. It is almost like reading parallel stories about the same events as the novel moves back and forth from 1977 to the present, creating a compelling 'will she or won't she' drama. Theresa, Robin's parents, and Dean's mother are strong secondary characters.

It opens with Robin's words in 2013: "Lessons learned are like bridges burned: you only need cross them once. Yet there are those of us who learn those lessons only after crossing our bridges over and over, retracing our footsteps as if looking for a mislaid pen or pair of glasses."

Robin Hamilton, an only child, is born to privilege and adoring parents who always stand beside her. She has a daughter, Lark, who also grows up in the lap of luxury with an adoring family. One thing is missing, though, and nothing can make up for it. Lark grows up without a father. Robin's parents help but it isn't the same as having a life partner, soul mate or even just a plain old husband. Robin eventually joins her father's law firm and becomes a successful Manhattan attorney, but she is alone with her daughter.

Robin's mother's cancer is a traumatic experience for their family, as cancer is in every family it attacks. But life goes on as it does for all those left behind when a loved one suffers and dies. The author describes the anguish as someone who has seen it first-hand, and the reader is increasingly pulled into the story with each page.

Robin's college boyfriend, Dean Thompson, has no idea he has a daughter. Extenuating circumstances leads to his dropping out of college. Then Robin drops out. Though he tries, he is unable to find Robin. Things happen. Their lives become complicated. Lark grows up. Then at the age of thirty-three, Lark finally meets her dad.

Robin's college roommate becomes her best friend for life and they stick together like sisters, always there for each other. She is an aunt to Lark. And Robin is there for Theresa when PTSD nearly strikes her down. In 1977 when the huge Con Edison power outage hits, Theresa and Robin are alone in their dorm. All they have are a couple small candles, and their flashlight's batteries are dead. They hear someone break the entry door to the building, and then methodically wood splintered as he breaks into room after room. They quickly move furniture to blockade their door, blow out their candles and hide in the closet. As their door is pushed and kicked they cling to each other, terrified. It is the year of Son of Sam, the notorious serial killer. Robin is shook up but is able to shrug it off and move on. Theresa compartmentalizes it, and it comes back to haunt her almost twenty years later.

The author's strength is in her descriptions of place, time and character development. She creates a believable, though improbable plot. But then we all know real life is often stranger than fiction. This is a richly detailed story of passion and failure, deception and honesty, with anticipation and nostalgia. It is about the living with your choices, and the ties that hold a family together.

Wafler has a unique story-telling style, and I was quickly hooked on the plot as well as the characters whose lives intertwined to make this a memorable novel.

“In Robin’s Nest” is one of those books that just put a smile on my face and made me hopeful. It is a beautiful story that tells you that it is never too late in life to find or rekindle your love for someone.

The author writes the story in a fresh manner, where she alternates between timelines and perspectives. Robin is terrific in the lead, and I loved her chemistry with Dean, friendship with Teresa, and bond with Lark. She is realistic and complex, with varying emotions that resonate with the reader. Similarly, I loved all the supporting characters like Nick, Theresa, and Lark.

Moreover, I liked the story because even the supporting characters had their fair share of drama. From Lark’s accident to Nick’s one night stand, the author gave importance to everyone. I also chuckled during the part where Mary asks Dean awkward adult questions and makes him uncomfortable.

On a side note, I enjoyed the apt references that the author puts in corresponding to that timeline, like “Mork and Mindy” and “The Love Boat.” The author added many tidbits into the storyline to make the setting, timelines, and characters as authentic as possible.

The only minor criticism I initially had to the story was the instant love between Dean and Robin. While I fell in love with them after a few pages, the instant love initially threw me off a bit.

Apart from that, this was just wonderful. If you are a fan of contemporary romance and love authors like Danielle Steel and Nicholas Sparks, please give this book a chance.

Elizabeth Sumner Wafler, the author of “In Robin’s Nest” had written an intriguing, captivating and thought-provoking novel. The genres for this book are literary fiction, romance, and women’s fiction. The timeline for this story is set in the present and goes back to 1977. The story takes place in Washington, Paris, New York, and Virginia, and some other areas. The author describes her interesting characters as complex and complicated. I love the way that Elizabeth Sumner Wafler tells her story and vividly describes her characters, scenery, food, and settings. The themes center around secrets, second chances, forgiveness, the importance of family, friends, love, and hope.

Robin Hamilton is currently a successful attorney, a single mom with a beautiful daughter Lark and realizes after watching an event on television that it is time. On the TV screen, while watching a music documentary, Lark sees her mother in 1977 sitting on the shoulders of a handsome young man. Robin realizes that after all this time it is now time for her secrets to become revealed and introduce Lark to her father, Dean Falconer.

Robin met Dean in 1977 at a concert, and they fell in love. Tragic circumstances and timing prevented them from staying together, and now Robin knows she has to contact Dean. Only she hasn’t spoken to him in 35 years, and Dean doesn’t know that he has a daughter.

I enjoyed remembering the titles of music that were popular in the 1970s and moving forward. Do you believe in second chances or true love? I would highly recommend this emotionally-charged and thought-provoking story.

About the book: The book starts out in 2013 as Robin Hamilton and her adult daughter Lark are watching a documentary on The Eagles. Lark sees her mom in one of the videos from a 1977 concert in Washington DC on the shoulders of a handsome young man..that man is Dean Falconer who is Lark’s father. Lark has actually never seen him before and this prompts Robin to contact Dean and let him know about a child he didn’t know existed. Through the perspectives of Robin, Lark and Dean, this story takes us back to Robin and Dean meeting, their relationship and then goes through time as Lark grows up. Finally, we get to see Robin and Dean reconnect and Dean and Lark establish a father-daughter relationship over 30 years later.
My thoughts: This was such a great read for me. I loved the way the book had the different character perspectives and the way the characters told the story in chunks of time. I also loved all the music that plays such a big part in the story and how music prompts memories. The characters while not perfect were weaved into the story and into Robin, Dean and Lark’s life and stayed a constant support for the main characters. This story had a few lessons for me such as the thought that by not disclosing information you are protecting someone and the resiliency of love and the human spirit.
I also appreciate that in the book when Robin and Dean reunite they are 55 which is close to my age and Robin thinks about how her body doesn’t resemble the one from 1977..thanks to the author for giving that a real feel that we do age and change over time in some areas!!

What would you do if your adult daughter sees you in a rock documentary with the father she never knew? That’s what single mother, Robin Hamilton, has to decide after her daughter, Lark, now grown in her thirties, spots her on the shoulders of a man who turns out to be her father. I oils consider this part family saga, part romance. The story is told in alternating chapters from the view of Robin, Lark, and dad Dean Falconer. We follow the story (moving between past and present)of how Robin and Dean met at an Eagles concert in Washington D.C. back in 1977, fell in love that weekend, and lost touch due to a family tragedy. What will happen when he finds out he has a daughter nearly three decades later?

This was a touching story and seeing the decisions made by both Robin and Dean (who never knew he had a daughter) were heartbreaking at times, even knowing the reasons behind it. I felt for all the parties involved, especially Dean, who lost the opportunity to see his daughter grow and be a part of her life, and was just sucked into the story to see what would happen. The references to 70’s music and other pop culture was fun as well. This was a debut story for this author, originally released in 2016 and re-released October 2020, I look forward to reading more by this author.

I recommend this book at 4 of 5 stars and thank Suzy’s Approved Book Tours and author Elizabeth Sumner Wafler for the review copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A heartwarming story filled with love, family, and hope.
As the book opens, Robin is watching a documentary from the past of an Eagles Concert that she had been to many years ago. She calls her daughter Lark to come watch with her, and Lark is shocked when she sees her mother with a man enjoying the music. The narration goes back thirty-five years into the past , when Robin is in college. She meets Dean at an Eagles concert in Washington,D.C., and their love story begins. Robin finds out about her pregnancy after Dean is summoned home to Virginia because of a family tragedy.
The music of the Eagles is a backdrop for the lonely years Robin has raising her little girl in New York with the help of her parents. Dean is always in her thoughts, but the time is never right for her to let him know about his daughter.
Weaving back and forth through the years and different locales , the story is narrated by Robin, Dean and Lark. The beautiful reunion of the three emphasize the bonds of family and love.
I really enjoyed this book and was reluctant to put it down. Loved the character descriptions and felt as if I was right there with them. I can't wait for the author's next book!
I received this from Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

In Robin's Nest by Elizabeth Sumner Wafler is an amazing read. Readers will instantly be dragged into a family's deepest secrets and must live courageously to face what lies ahead. The truth needed to be released. After many years, a mother has decided to let it out of the bag. Memories from the characters' past swept me off my feet and into a whirlwind of love, honesty, and fate. Image a father having never known he had a daughter and a daughter never knowing her father...this is one secret that will haunt and terrify a mother who tried to what was best. The future holds a lot of hope, love, and new beginnings. I enjoyed following the characters as they grew as a family. A family that finally found everything they ever wanted. Beautifully written, inspiring, and realistic. A mother, a father, and their daughter all experience a journey. One that will stun readers with joy and above all hope. This was the first novel I have read by Elizabeth Sumner Wafler. I highly recommend it to all.

Elizabeth Sumner Wafler’s In Robin’s Nest is an enchanting, romantic tale of a love that endures despite decades of separation and secrecy. After a chance encounter leads to a brief but torrid romance, Robin Hamilton initially decides to conceal her resulting pregnancy from her lover, Dean Falconer. Misinterpreting Robin’s silence and inattention, Dean drifts away, leaving Robin to raise daughter Lark by herself. Years later, Lark discovers a clue as to her father’s identity, and Robin finally explains Dean’s absence. Robin introduces Lark to Dean, who reveals that he still loves Robin. Wafler’s love story is presented through the voices of three narrators: Robin, Lark and Dean. The author frequently alludes to popular songs that Robin and Dean enjoyed during their youthful romance, and this complements Wafler’s lyrical, descriptive, flowing prose. Written in an elegant style and with an engaging plot, In Robin’s Nest is a delightful read.

Lark and her mother Robin are watching a television documentary when Lark spots her mother on TV, and next to her is Dean Falconer, Lark’s dad whom Robin hasn’t talked to for over 35 years.
A story of passion, devotion, and honesty, I really enjoyed Robin's character, easy to connect with and she is also a strong female character for this story. The story goes back and forth through the years and is narrated by the main three characters of the story, Robin, her daughter Lark, and Dean. The choice of characters where brilliant, I loved them all.
The author was able to portray the details beautifully. I enjoyed how she frequently referred to popular 1970’s songs.

A delightful read, with an engaging plot.

When her daughter sees her in a rock documentary, Robin knows it's time to come clean, and so begins In Robin's Nest. Meeting at an Eagles concert in the 70s, Dean and Robin have a whirlwind romance. Circumstances beyond their control pull them apart, but chance, and their daughter, bring them back together thirty years later.

This was a story of missed opportunities and second chances. Dean and Robin have what seems like a beautiful love story, but they just can't catch a break. I was rooting for them the entire novel. I think Robin made some questionable choices in terms of a huge part of the plotline, but, if she didn't, there would be no story. If you enjoy a good redemption tale, this one's for you.

In Robin's NestI thought the book was a wonderful summer read. Once I started reading it I found it very hard to put down. I was completely captured within the first few pages of the book. I am not always a fan of flashbacks while reading but Elizabeth wrote it beautifully and made it very easy for the reader to follow. I also liked the way she let you know which character was telling each story.
I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for her next book to come out.

Robin invites her daughter Lark over to watch a documentary on her favorite band The Eagles. Lark is surprised to see her mother in the documentary sitting on a man's shoulders. Robin hasn't seen Dean in over 35 years and decides it is time to reveal a family secret.

This book brought back great memories as it is in the time frame from when I was in college. I enjoyed the music reference from The Eagles to Disco to Nirvana. Robin is a strong female character and I enjoyed this love story told from the POV of Robin, Lark and Dean. If you enjoy a story about Mother/Daughter relationships, friendships, family secrets, and romance, I highly recommend this book

In Robin's Nest is a well written story that I would classify as women fiction.

The story has alternating timelines between the present and in the past in the 1970's.

I enjoyed the second chance theme in this story.

The characters are complicated, complex and well fleshed out.

The music theme is prevalent and I enjoyed that aspect.

A great story about relationships, love, loss and second chance.

People you thought you left behind come back into your life unexpectedly. It’s all a matter of timing. Each character has their own storyline & we get to see how they all intersect. Being a teenager in the ‘70’s I really loved the references to the music & the things that were near & dear to us. It’s a story about second chances, love put on the shelf & a happy ever after! Highly recommend this one!

At the heart of this story are Robin and Lark, her daughter. While Robin and Lark lead a happy life, Lark has never known her father. Robin decides to come clean and that’s where this story takes off. This book definitely pulled at my heart. It’s about family, choices we make, and how to live with those choices. I loved the character growth and would definitely recommend this book.
