Half-fairy mercenary Naomi Garland has spent her whole life caught between two worlds. She’s learned to depend on her sword instead of her weak magic. But when a mission to save kidnapped supernaturals in Munich goes horribly wrong, she discovers an ancient fairy magic she never knew she had: the power to navigate realms.

Naomi uncovers a tear in the veil between earth and the underworld, the home realm of spirits, demons, and ghosts—and the prison of criminals banished there because they were too dangerous and demented for the earth. To stop the rising hellish army and repair the boundaries between realms, Naomi has to journey into the underworld to find a powerful ally, a dark and tempting Dragon Born mage who has been imprisoned there for seven hundred years.

- very simple language with many repetitions - the author wanted to hammer home ALL that was happening, what characters thought etc., so there would be NO way for the reader to misunderstand anything (either the reader is supposedly not really smart, or the author needed to meet certain word-quota for the book), like the part with hell-beast - how the beast masters rode on beasts, and those beasts were BEASTS with BEAST-riders, OK? Or how
- everything was incredibly vague and oversimplified, not only in regard to little details that help make a book more realistic (IMO, like everyday actions performed by characters that are not tied to the plot of the book), but the major ones, too, like rules of magic and magical abilities - how he-and-she does this-and-that, where's the limit of one's power/ability, how quickly one can regenerate said power and so on. That most certainly was completely intentional, because it allowed the author to do numerous ass pulls. And I mean NUMEROUS. Convenience, so not nice to meet you.
- the characters were wooden puppets, no life in them at all. They meet, talk, move, talk. Little to none descriptions during a dialogue (maybe except for the beginning, where there were many long basic explanations of the world, I think) - no matter whether a character is healthy, injured, or close to dying - there's almost no indication of it during a dialogue or an action scene, no "he rasped/moaned...", no "moved despite the pain/pain slowing him down", nope, nope, nope.
- no rhyme or reason for their actions other than author's says-so.
- I was really annoyed by the author's delaying certain explanations of things, like sth happens, the plot moves forward, sth else happens, and then the previous event/reaction of characters to it/figuring sth out/coming up with a plan/etc. is explained/described. When [minor spoiler] What the hell? =.=
- if there were no sexual content, it would easily be a book for middle graders. Seriously.

Fell short for me

I have noticed in past stories that the author makes goofs in combat situations or decisions. It will bother me a little, but this one had what I considered a doozy. Naomi learns that there is a tear in the veil and darksider is pulling through hell criminals to build his own army, who are draining supernaturals right and left, but she doesn't tell the sister, the Dragon or the assassin. Nor does she tell the supernatural police or the council. Someone to handle it before this army gets strong. Pretty sure the sisters and crew would have taken all of an hour cleaning the place up and taking out the trash.

There were times one sister took off to fight the bad guys and the other just hung out at the castle twiddling her fingers. The group's are just too fractured. The author rips them apart even though that isn't what those characters would do.

Lastly, I never saw the extreme control that Naomi showed in this story. She was a fairy that spread the love all through this story. Then she decided to become the no girl. It was too repetitive and unbelievable.

Makarik says let go of your magic and she pushes and pulls instead. In what world is that even trying to let go.? Makerik was really the only good character in this story. The rest just weren't themselves.

Dragons, magic, fairies and more! I loved this fantasy world that was created and the characters introduced! This story focuses on Naomi a half fairy Mage. Her character was fun and sassy and an excellent match to Makani a sexy Dragon Born Mage. There were a collection of other characters that I found out in the end were part of this series but the series is under a different name so I didn't connect it until the end where it mentioned the reading order. I wish I would've known this before so I could've gotten some background. As it is the story can be read without the other books but probably would've been better with the other books.
I'll probably go back and read the others since the characters caught my interest and I definitely want to know more about them and their story.
As for Namoi's story was entertaining and I can't wait to read more. I loved the tension between the characters and the blend of action, adventure, romance and magic!
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

2.75 stars actually: There are too many characters in this book. Naomi and Makani's relationship is forced down the readers throat too quickly. Darksire and Firestorm sound hella cheesy. She's Dragon Born, interesting as well as being Makani's twin. Let me say, I am still not invested.
Good plots unfold over time with plausible development. I won't read the next book and I should know by now with this author. Meh

This is the story of Naomi a half Fairy mercenary, who is out to repair the tears in the Veil between our world and the Underworld. This book takes place in the Dragon Born series of books (2 series I have not read and it made it very difficult to understand a lot of the feelings and behind the scenes nuances of why Naomi does what she does). I truly believe you must read the other 2 series to really get all of the back story to this book. That being said, I loved Naomi's kick butt, take no prisonerst attitude, coupled with her hesitation to let go at allow her magic to takeover as Makani suggests. Makani is Dragon Born, a man who was sent to Hell just for being who he was bornot to be, after serving the world well for years by sending real Demons back to hell where they belong. Naomi rescues Makani and returns to the Earth side of the Veil, only to be continously attacked, her only way to survive was to listen to Makani and "let her magic take on error and guide her", and when she does watch out Demons !! I definitely would have enjoyed this book more if I had read all of the books in the Dragon Born series, instead of book 1 in each, before reading this one. 3☆'s for a great Heroine and a sexy Dragon Born love intrest. I recieved a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Whoa! This was great!

Although this begins in the previous book, we now see things through Naomi’s eyes as she helps her friends battle the mages, vampires, fairies and other creatures that have been caught up in he machinations of Darkside, Alden, the crazy cultists (sorry, forgot their name), and potentially the Magic Council.

So good, loved adding a new kick a$$ character to the lineup, especially someone who throws a massive curveball into the plot.

Great tie in to the dragon born series

I enjoyed learning a little about Naomi and how she came into the power that allowed her to help Sera in her own quest to learning her magic and defeating demons. Great read!

So I wasn't convinced that I'd like this more than the other series but actually this is my favourite. For a few reasons, most importantly, its more interesting, shes a fairy that walks in Earth and the spirt realm. That to me is more interesting than being a banned species of mage.

I love Naomi, in the other books I felt like I wasn't so connected to her, pretty disconnected to her, not because her character is weak but because shes portrayed very promiscuous which I don't mind when we have a focus on her because you can see that her sexual comments are watered down more than when you only get the odd monologue with her.

I also love the love interest, he and her have chemistry, and you can feel it! Will 100% be continuing.

Someone is kidnapping hybrids and no one really cares. Noone that is but Naomi.

Naomi, a hybrid mage fairy, has been the side-kick for both Sera and Alex, so it comes as no surprise that she would get her own series. While this is a stand-alone series, it would helped with the relationships of everyone if you had read the other two series that connect to this one.

Naomi’s magic has always been weak, so she has made up for it in kick-butt fighting skills. During a night of weird happenings Naomi is attacked by a mage in a cloak. After the attack she is pulled into another realm and meets Makani an exiled prince. Once she returns to her realm she vows to help him. He in turns promises to help her- she is an extremely rare and powerful spirit warrior.

Naomi is a spirited fairy/mage, one who is confident and self-aware. She knows her strengths and caters to them. She knows her weaknesses and acknowledges them. She understands how her world works. She is relatable and loyal.

Makani is well of course hot and a dragon-born. He just seems too good to be true. He has been trapped in another realm for centuries and easily accepts modern society. Not so sure about that one. He is a gentleman, and has a moral code that he has no problem adhering to.

The banter between the Naomi and Makani is comes naturally. The interactions with Sera, Alex and the dynamic trio were almost family oriented. Overall a good spin-off. I am interested in seeing where this one goes with the big baddie being who they are.

Naomi is best friends with the Dragonborn twins Sera and Alex. While Naomi is investigating the disappearance of some hybrids, she is grabbed by a dark fairy and thrust into one of the circles of hell. She quickly discovers that she is Spirit Warrior. A mage who can travel between the realms. She meets a Dragonborn mage who has been stuck in hell for 700 years. She feels a strong connection to him. Why did the dark fairy send her to meet the Dragonborn? Who is he, and why does she feel such a strong connection to him? Before she can even start to figure things out, she's back where she started outside the bar the dark fairy found her at. Say what? What's going on? Read the book to find out!

I love these three series! Sera, Alex and Naomi really tear it up! This book is Naomi discovering her new abilities and coming into her own. I love how Ella has created such a great connection between the characters. They don't just draw you in, they enthrall you. The world of these series is amazing too. I love how there are so many different races of supernaturals, and tons of hybrids too. Ella has a great ability to blend the series together. I suggest reading them in the publication order, which is the suggested reading order by the author. It will make things more clear as you go. I highly recommend this book, and checking out all three series!

I received Fairy Magic as a review copy. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. This book links with two other series by the same author, and though I found it fun to watch the stories interlock, it was frustrating to receive a mini-recap on the other characters, it slowed the pacing and took away from the current story-- simple interplay between the other couples should have been sufficient to garner interest in the other books. I suspect the interconnected stories are being released too close together-- word repetitions and small errors are not getting caught in the edit, which is distracting (for example, promise used 4 times in the same way within a couple pages, and "eyes sang" more than once). Some descriptions made no sense in context, but these were rare. As far as Fairy Magic, I enjoyed the plot, but never really clicked with Naomi, and never really felt a connection for Makani until the last 25 percent of the book. Good storyline, good writing-- but, for me, I simply felt a disconnect with the couple which may not be an issue for other readers. I'll definitely continue with the other two sub-series' (especially Sera's story), as I felt more sympathy with those couples.

I'm currently not yet half way through this book- it's an interesting plot but the editorial mistakes are driving me crazy. The main character is sent to the spirit realm and there are sections where there's no mention of her having weapons, suddenly in the spirit realm she has a sword and bow & arrows- where did these come from? Do they just appear in this realm? The book starts with her at a bar, then later that day she goes to the spirit realm, later that same day she crashes a fancy ball and later that day still she visits her gran. What? What time of day was she at this bar anyway, that'd there'd be time to show up (on time) to a ball & also get dressed up in a ball gown and have her hair styled? And the section that just really threw me was she was in the spirit realm, talking to the Prince-- he's taking down a castle using a pendent with magic (only way to have enough magic to accomplish this is to break it and absorb the magic), by the way- he's previously done this 5 times before... ah... what? Did you have magic pendents to take down these other 5 castles? Guess we'll never know. Not sure I'm going to finish this book-- I enjoyed Ella's Vampire's Kiss, much better written. I wonder if she had a different editor on that one.

I recieved a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

If you've read and and enjoyed the other two series(Dragon Born Serafina and Dragon Born Alexandria), then you want to pick up Fairy Magic.

All the awesome characters from those series makes an appearance, but Fairy Magic focuses on Naomi, the half fairy mercenary who finds herself with some magic she didn't know she had until she finds herself periodically sucked into the Underworld and that's when all the fun really begins. She and her friends, as well as a new friend, do what they can to keep the demons from the Underworld from getting loose and taking over.

I enjoyed reading Fairy Magic. It's full of the same witty dialogue as the other series which makes it fun to read. I did feel while reading this, that this series is a bit too similar to the other series that Summers writes. That it's almost the same story just with a different main character. That was a bit of a hang up for me, too similar to the series she's already working on. It was a quick enjoyable read with some fun characters.

Naomi has finally met her match. In Makani, Prince of the Pacific, to be exact. He becomes her capturer, warrior & partner in the Spirit Realm as she learns that she is a rare Spirit Walker. Her magic is slow to come, but she's learning a lot from the 7-centuries-Hell-kept Dragon Born mage. Yep, someone who can also help the Dragon Born sisters, Sera & Alex to finally give their dragons corporeal form.

Everywhere you go, dragon magic seems to follow. And finally Naomi has a dragon lover all her own, just like her best friend, Sera. He can help her realize her true potential as a Spirit Walker, and her Gran is just marvelous throughout this book! You can tell fom her Gran is where Naomi gets her flirtatious attitude.

If you love Ella Summers books, you'll get the flirty, literally hot & steamy, action in Fairy Magic that you've come to love from the Dragon Born series.

I'm off to read Rival Magic & them I'm ready for Spirit Walker to be released (when, oh when?!?) and the Dragon Born World Trilogy.

I received an ARC from the author.

Naomi has been on a quest to solve the mystery behind a series of hybrid disappearances in the paranormal community. As a hybrid fairy-Mage, the case hits close to home. Her efforts are diverted when she is attacked by a dark fairy and left with both a cryptic note and a spell to unlock her latent spirit warrior abilities. It also compels her to seek and rescue a mysterious, powerful Mage from the second circle of hell.

Naomi is a secondary character in the Dragon Born series. The last book was very chaotic, and split the story between Alex and Sera. This propelled the plot but was not as enjoyable as the books featuring only one of the dragon born sisters. Fairy Magic occurs in the same time frame as Magic Kingdom, but focuses on Naomi's adventures.

As with the previous books, Fairy Magic is a well-written, enjoyable read. I recommend reading them in order to understand the story in context.

Naomi Garland is half fairy and half mage who is only just learning her magical powers. She is a mercenary and works to save as many people as she can. This will cause her no end of trouble in this book. She finds herself magically linked to someone who lives in Hell. Popping in and out of there all the time even when it's only in a vision is hard on a girls mind and body. The sexy Dragon born mage she is linked to does make it worthwhile.
This is a YA Fantasy full of magical battles with demons and other not very nice beings. You do have to concentrate to keep track of where our kickass heroine is. Even she doesn't know half the time.
This is the first in a series, but I think it must be a spin off from another because there are several references to something that happened before this story starts. An entertaining read.

Great spin-off...must read the other two series for full effect.

Learning about Naomi throughout both Sera's and Alex's installments was nice but I wasn't sure if she would be as likeable on her own. Well...she is.
This story took place at the same time as Alex's last book so that was an unexpected treat. A lot of the blanks were filled in and all the characters (and their men) were together for a time. And Makani, her dragon born man...Yes!
The book was full length, filled with action, Romance and plenty of supernatural. I cannot wait for another installment in any of the series.
Also, a special thank you to the author for staying true to KU. I've recommended all three series to anyone willing to listen.

I really enjoyed this book. It would have been a 4 or 5 star read for me if there hadn't been so much winking and smirking. Every and I mean every conversation been the characters had someone either winking or smirking. It was just outright ridiculous and ruined the flow for me. It never felt natural. I'll probably read the next book when it comes out. I just hope there will be less winking and smirking. Notice how many times I said winking and smirking in this small paragraph. Annoying right?

Talk about all action and blood and thunder. I just love reading about these girls and Naomi comes out special in this story. Really spooky the story involves just about all the paranormal but stays logical. As always from Ella the dialogue is smooth flowing and the story needs no padding out
A great continuation in the Dragon born series and as this is book one I can't wait to see how the couple now proceed. Highly recommended for the fans of paranormal

I really liked the other two series, sera more than alex, but this was unreadable. The writing itself is technically fine, but Boring dialogue and the whole thing felt blunt, like i was being whacked in the face with chunks of exposition and then wham! Huge plot point rushed through. Then silly recap of previous stories and "the gangs all here" nonsense. I was trying to be interested, and i was in the Makani bits, sort of, but I found I didnt want to slog through any more.

Different, but good different

I really like this series. I so glad I read them in the recommended order even though it seemed odd. I like fantasy books, and this series seems to have it all. The hero's are female which is a nice change with the hunky, deadly sidekick boyfriend. So many different paranormal characters, not just plain vamp, witches or shifters. Great story, great plot, very easy to follow. Looking forward to the rest of this series!

Great story

I've loved Naomi since her first appearance, so I'm glad she's getting her shot. I do like her prince, and this is a good, solid step in her world story arc.

Now the not so good. I think she rushed this one a tiny bit too much on the editing front--some silly mistakes left in. I'm finding her 'spirit world' a bit trope-ish, too.

Otherwise an enjoyable read.

Exciting

This is a very exciting adventure into the fairy world. Of course, you have to have your villains, too. The dragon mage is, at first, thought to be a villain but turns into a mighty hero. Enjoy the read.
