Legacies aren’t meant to rise from incredible odds. This is the saga of Sebastian and Evie, a harrowing, thrill-ride of a love story that neither of them will foresee, and the Tribe of Five will be stunned to discover. Sebastian Christos is expected to live his father’s life, working for the seedy underbelly of the Greek mafia. Evie Neal’s future couldn’t be more different—raised in a cloistered sect, promised to Ezra Kane, the future leader of the Fathers of the Right.
When Sebastian is accused of swindling his mob ties, the only safe haven is the chaste community. It’s a temporary reprieve from his unsavory existence and the sight of Evie Neal is a startling bright light in his bleak world. For the first time, the two find love. But with a price on his head, a debt to organized crime, and Evie destined to marry another man, Sebastian has a few challenges to face—a mission to complete—all before the patriarch of a legacy can come into his own.

"Sultry, sensual... intensely emotional and full of heart. L. J. Wilson is a discovery."--Shannon McKenna New York Times bestselling author
L. J. Wilson is the pen name of Laura Spinella, author of the #1 Bestselling Novel Ghost Gifts. The Clairmont Series Novels are a steamier extension of her mainstream books, which also includes Beautiful Disaster and Perfect Timing.
L. J. Wilson novels are sensual reads for discerning book lovers—in-depth stories that delve deep into the lives and loves of the Clairmont family and their legacy.
The story picks up where Ruby Ink left off. It switches from the past to the present and back again quite smoothly. I enjoyed how Evie and Sebastian discovered each other and revealed how different the worlds that they belonged to really were. Evie's background was almost cult-like. Her sect was at once free but strict. Evie seemed to have an innate curiosity that the other members lacked and it helped her to form a connection with Sebastian.
Meanwhile, in the present, Alec and the rest of the Tribe of Five (Aaron, Jake, Troy minus Honor), along with Jess, are trying to find clues that will explain the strange disappearance of their parents (Evie and Sebastian). As we learned in the first book, their parents were believed to have died in a plane crash in Columbia, but the plane and their bodies were never discovered. However, while on assignment in Columbia, Jess finds the plane with minimal damage, no bodies, and a message written in what could be blood to the Clairmont children. Thanks to her investigation, the search for their parents is back on!
All roads lead to Good Hope and the answers lie with the people of the sect. And those answers are mind-blowing! When is the next book coming out???
*ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review* Oh. My. God. I thought I was in love with the first book but after reading this beautiful masterpiece of a book, I can't choose which one I'm in love with the most. So I won't. It's been SO long-too long- since I've loved a romance series as much as I do this one and I couldn't possibly be more thankful for Wilson than I already am. The suspense L.J. weaves alongside the steamy and swoon-worthy romance is a magnificent and delectable treat. I am completely OBSESSED with her storytelling and I can't- will never - get enough of it. I have to admit, a part of me was weary about diving into this book. I was worried that I wouldn't love the story as much as I did the first one because it focuses on different characters of the family than in Ruby Ink, AND it's also part prequel. I was being weird and only wanted to know the present events and more about the couple in Ruby Ink, but as soon as I started reading, those thoughts went out the window. I grew emotionally attached all over again and my relief was overwhelming. L.J. took me on an incredible emotional roller coaster ride like no other and I couldn't contain the tears when it come to these characters being in peril. This book follows the parents, Evie and Sebastian (Bash), of the Clairmont family in the past, and their son, Alec, in the present, who is investigating their mysterious disappearance from over a decade ago. All Evie knows is what a strict religious group has fed her her entire life and Bash has a past that he's not proud of and couldn't control. They were both born into a life that suffocated them and when they find each other... their lives are never the same. These two were just unbelievable, together and apart. They're the type of characters I more than love and appreciate reading about. They're true to who they are no matter the consequences and their love, affection, loyalty, etc. towards each other is so palpable, they had me feeling it too. They grew as individuals and they grew as a relationship which never failed to surprise me. Their passion felt genuinely real and so blistering hot that I was surprised I didn't melt just by touching the book. I wanted nothing but the best of the best for these two and it hurt to see them suffer in any way. My hatred towards the people behind that suffering knew no bounds. I wanted to reach into the pages and strike down anybody that made them feel bad. The fact that I couldn't kept driving me off the wall. These two were just perfect for each other and the obstacles they faced made everything insane. Like I said, I usually don't like to focus on POV's that take place in the past when also reading about the present, but L.J. managed to change my mind completely. I was looking forward to those POV's much more than I was the present POV's. But then, I was looking forward to the present POV's as much as the ones in the past... my emotions were all over the place. The way L.J. finished each POV made you turn the pages a million miles a minute. I believe I screamed in frustration a few -a lot- of times due to them. I just wanted to read both at the same time and not be kept waiting for the other one to pick up again. At one point in the book, the past and present collide and I completely went insane when it did. It was the moment I was waiting for and L.J. didn't disappoint. I seriously feel like a drug addict when it comes to L.J.'s story telling. I wanted more but more was never enough. Even when I was curled up and crying my eyes out over everything that was happening, I was begging for L.J. to continue. I can't wait to see how L.J. will continue this masterpiece of a story. I'm completely terrified to see what's going to happen next but I shall suck it up. I am too emotionally invested in this beautiful family (if you can't tell) and they need to find justice or I will! I don't know how, but I'll do it. I feel like I'm part of their family and I just love these characters so much. I completely lost it when I read the last word int his book, for a bunch of reasons. It wasn't pretty but I still give L.J. a standing ovation. The Mission was one of the most captivating reads I've read in my entire life. So captivating that my heart was on the verge of pounding out of my chest from cover to cover. I kept trying to savor the words but as the addict that I am, I couldn't make it last any longer. I only hope everybody else gets a chance to meet the Clairmont family (and love them) too! This book is meant for readers of age 18+. 6 stars!
I'm excited to finally bring THE MISSION, Book Two in the Clairmont Series Novels to readers! In Ruby Ink we get to know the Tribe of Five--Alec, Aaron, Honor, Jake & Troy. We indulged in the suspense-filled love affair between Aaron and Ruby. Did you guess the ending?
Just as their story comes to a hard-fought but satisfying end, readers are introduced to another Clairmont mystery. Evie and Sebastian, the parents of the Clairmont siblings, who were lost in a plane crash over a drug-rich Colombian landscape. Questions have swirled for more than a decade--longer than that if you're a Clairmont.
The Tribe of Five needs to know what happened--former Navy Seal, Alec, sets out to find the answers. Readers will find themselves on an explosive journey, a touching and titillating story of how, exactly, the Clairmont legacy began.
The Mission is book 2 in the Clairmont series, and having just finished the first, Ruby Ink, I was anxious to continue reading about The Tribe of Five, as the siblings in the story are called. When Ruby Ink ends, the siblings have received some news regarding the discovery of plane wreckage, and they believe it was the plane that their parents were in when they crashed and perished in the jungles of South America. Oldest sibling, Alec, flies down to investigate the crash site, hoping to learn more about what happened to their parents. The author brilliantly gives us 2 time lines, as we learn the story, from the beginning, of Evie and Sebastian. They seem to be such an ill-matched pair...Evie lives in an isolated religious sect, called Fathers of the Right, and is engaged to the son of the sect's leader. Sebastian has been working for his father and the Greek mafia, and is sequestered in Evie's community when his life is at stake. The pages of this book are sizzling with passion, at the same time you are brought into a world of organized crime and danger. The dual timelines weave together perfectly, and as the reader learns what happens to Sebastian and Evie over the years, so does Alec. It all comes to a climactic head when the secrets of Sebastian's and Evie's lives are slowly revealed to their children. The characters in this book are all so well-written, multi-layered and full of flaws, but they are characters who you will definitely want to spend time with! And lucky for all of us, there are more stories to come in the next book in this fabulous series!!
The Mission is everything it promises and then some! I was anxious to read this book after really enjoying Ruby Ink, the first in this new series. The Mission has great characters, a riveting romantic suspense storyline, and a killer of a cliffhanger. While it’s not imperative to have read book one in this series I highly recommend it before diving into book two—mostly because Wilson has created such well-developed characters, and actually an entire family history, that you won’t want to miss anything. This particular installment centers on the love story of the parents of the "Tribe of Five," which did surprise me at first. But like the first book, Wilson masterfully weaves the past with the present into one seamless story. The Mission picks up right where Ruby Ink leaves off, and we’re on our way with the present day portion of the story being told from Alec’s point of view. He’s the hunky oldest of the siblings with his own dark past. This part of the story also serves as the set up for what I’m guessing is book three and Alec’s book. In the meantime, the past chapters center on Evie and Sebastian. No spoilers here, but I do think readers will be surprised to learn just how the Tribe of Five came to be. Besides all this, there is plenty of steamy love scenes and a highly entertaining, well devised plot. If you enjoy sexy romantic suspense, The Mission delivers.
Love this book and those Clairmont men! After reading the first book in the series (Ruby Ink), I couldn't wait to find out what happens next to the "Tribe of Five." And The Mission doesn't disappoint. The series centers around a family of 4 brothers and a sister, who were orphaned when their parents' plane crashed in a remote area of South America. In The Mission, the eldest Clairmont brother and ex-Navy Seal Alec sets out - with his good friend and roommate Jess - to find the wreckage of that plane and solve the mystery of what happened to his parents. L.J. Wilson expertly weaves Alec's and Jess' present-day search for the plane in with the story of how Alec's parents - Sebastian and Evie - met in the 1970's. Their story is unlike any you've read. And while Alec and Jess are a lot alike, Sebastian and Evie couldn't seem more different. I couldn't put it down. The Mission is filled with great characters, romance, mystery, and a lot of unexpected twists and turns leading to an ending that will have you wishing for book 3. I highly recommend.
This is the second in a series and while it is about the same family it switches family members to the parents story. It is an amazing story. So much depth and history and shows why the kids were raised the way they were and the intense bond between them all. This book is just such a great story with a love story and suspense
Evie and Sebastian are the most unlikely of couples. She comes from a conservative religious sect; he's a bad boy from the Greek Mafia. Yet when they meet, their chemistry transcends their differences. This novel has everything: a poignant love story, a thrill ride of a mystery and an engrossing continuation of the Clairmont series.
In Ruby Ink, the first book in the Clairmont Series, we meet the fabulous Tribe of Five- five tight-knit siblings. After having raced through Ruby Ink, which left us hanging in agony, I was anxious to read Book #2, The Mission. In The Mission, we meet Evie and Sebastian, the complicated parents of the Tribe of Five. L.J. carefully and brilliantly weaves the past with the present, taking us on a wild adventure filled with suspense and romance. I absolutely LOVED this book. L.J. is a master at story-telling. Looking forward to the third book in the Clairmont Series.
This is an intense story. I thought Ruby Ink was a roller coaster but it has absolutely nothing on this one.
This story covers different time periods. The flipping back between past and present isn't for everyone, so please be aware of that point as you consider purchasing this story. The past gives Sebastian and Evie's full story: how they met, what happened after, the choices they made, the effect those choices had, the life they led that was nearly void of everything they'd once been a part of. The present is a shuttle of sorts. Sebastian and Evie's eldest son takes up the mantle of discovering what happened to their parents, flying to South America to investigate the place their plane crashed. It's there the connections were made, where the past meets the present with devastating results.
I have to say, the title is clever. It isn't just about the Clairmont kids' quest to finding out the truth behind their parents' deaths. It's what their father, Sebastian, was referred to. The Mission.
I skimmed through a lot of this story at first. My mistake so don't make it. *smiles* The backstory is important, especially to the ending of this story. Without knowing Sebastian and Evie's respective pasts and how it was they came to be together, the end made no sense. So I went back and started it again, taking the time to read each page and absorb what was going on.
Totally worth it because this story's insane. It deals with more than lust and love and opposites attract. It touches on organized crime, religious sect life, sex, drugs, and adultery. (Note: For those who don't read adultery, you may want to bypass this one although I'm really hoping you don't. Adultery doesn't sit well with me at all. It was a sore point while I was reading. But Ms. Wilson included all of the emotions that, I would hope, would come with the committing of the act.) And despite the darkness that shadows a good chunk of this book, there is this quiet churning of hope that everything, whether in the past or in the present, will turn out as it should be.
The ending... I didn't see that coming. That was a brilliant twist, Ms. Wilson. I almost threw my ereader when I read it, lol. It wasn't what I expected, not how I thought it'd all end. But kudos to you for knowing how to keep this reader interested. I'll be waiting for the next book in this series.
As an avid mafia romance reader, it doesn’t take much to prompt this reviewer to request a NetGalley ARC in this genre. Having not read book 1 of this series, I jumped into book 2 hoping, even if it wasn’t a stand-alone, I would still be able to put the pieces together. What I wasn’t expecting was a book to feature two main plots. One featuring Sebastian and Evie based in 1976 and the other taking place present day featuring Jessie and Alec in Columbia, South America, who are trying to find answers to Sebastian’s & Eve’s missing, presumed crashed plane from a couple years earlier. Alec appears to be in love with Jess, his roommate, who has an on and off again thing with her ex-Julian, who just happened to conveniently be in Columbia, as well. Yeah, that added a whole lot more pieces to the puzzle than I had bargained for or wanted. No, it wasn’t mentioned in the synopsis. Honestly, it felt like two overlapping sequels that should have been published separately.
It simply became too much for this reviewer to wade through/digest. The resulting literary whiplash of jumping back and forth pretty much ruined the book for me, along with the lack of mafia content. It felt less like a romantic read and more like fictional suspense. Evie marrying someone else was another nail in this book’s coffin, btw. Nothing kills romance like the main couple winding up with someone else.
Can’t say I’m feeling too overly guilty for not seeing this one through. If the synopsis had been accurate, I would not have requested the ARC. Here’s to hoping it will appeal to mystery/suspense enthusiasts.

I have struggled over this review because I'm determined to keep it spoiler-free and I think that every one should experience the roller-coaster that is The Mission for themselves.
Ms. Wilson takes us back to where everything began in this suspenseful, emotional and sometimes difficult to read installment of the Clairmont series with the story of Evie and Sebastian, the parents of the Clairmont siblings. An unlikely pairing of the woman from a conservative religious sect and the man with deep mafia ties in a forbidden and tragic but passionate love story, one fraught with drama, mystery, surprises and deceit and skillfully blends the past and present in a gripping tale.
The Mission gives us more insight into the Clairmont siblings as well as their parents and the events that led to their demise and the unanswered questions that have lingered for decades. Alec's investigation into the plane crash that cost his parents their lives brings more questions than answers and soon has them embroiled in danger and twists that bring an unexpected cliffhanger ending and will have the reader eagerly awaiting the next installment.
This story is not for the faint of heart because it is definitely not your mother's romance and will challenge so much of what a reader believes and twist you up emotionally, but I definitely think it's worth reading and I have to give the author props for a well-written book.
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Let me start by saying this book was not in my normal reading preferences. However I've read book 1 and let's say curiosity got the best of me. The series will get you buy knowing you'll get multiple book and the family you get consists of 4 brothers and there sister. Being orphaned after there parents die in a plane crash in remote South Africa. Alec the oldest and his friend Jess set out on a mission for answers. You will enjoy two stories of Sebastian and Evie there lost parents from there first moments together and the Alex and Jess as the search for his parents wreckage. This book although it took a bit to grab my attention and suck me which could have been fixed by placing important moments a bit sooner. I enjoyed the book. Very well written and the story line was a bit different and I did like it.
I dashed through Ruby Ink L.J. Wilson's first steamy Clairmont novel. I loved the solid mystery and character development that was paired with some window steaming sex scenes. I was anxious to see if the momentum could roll into the sequel The Mission and wasn't disappointed. The Clairmont books center around a family of five children (Tribe of Five) who were orphaned when their parent’s plane went missing in the jungles of South America. The Mission begins where Ruby Ink left off, but switches to viewpoint of the eldest brother Alec, an ex-Navy SEAL, with some hefty emotional baggage. As Alec searches for his roommate, Jessica, a hot blonde investigative journalist, who discovered the wreckage of the Clairmont’s plane, the story weaves in and out of the 1970's revealing the elder Clairmonts backstory. Alec, Jessica and the family make their way through twists and turns (and uh… “romantic entanglements”) to discover just why their parents might have been targeted for death. My only disappointment in this book? The fact that book three won’t be arriving by tomorrow!
Excellent Read --- I haven’t read the first book in the series but from looking at the reviews, I somewhat feel like maybe this should have been the first story--- There is a dual story line in this book. The present day story focuses on the Tribe of Five searching for answers related to their missing parents. While the past, it told as a love story of the Mission (Sabastian) and his love Evie. The story can be a little hard to follow because it switches from present day to past but if you stay with it, it all ties together by the end of the story. You will learn that things are definitely how you think they are and will be left with more questions that you are going to have to wait for the next book to discover answers to --- defiantly ends on a cliff hanger.
I recommend the book; however, knowing how it ends, I would definitely wait for the next release and read them back to back. I hate being left in suspense with an unfinished story, and this one definitely ends that way.
I received an eARC, from NetGallery and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
Okay folks, I just have to say, if you liked Ruby Ink, you will love The Mission. Whether writing as Laura Spinella, or L. J. Wilson, The Mission is Ms. Spinella's best work to date. I was so fortunate to receive an ARC of this book, and I literally could not put it down. She takes the "Tribe of Five" to a fantastic new level and spins a web of unimaginable deceit and lies, into a beautifully tragic love story. Each character evolves and grows. The story takes you to unimaginable places and leaves you begging for more, more, more.
Outstanding! Having torn through RUBY INK, I was desperate to get my hands on book 2 of the Clairmont series, and LJ Wilson does not disappoint. As she expertly weaves the past and present together, there is plenty of sexual tension, action, mystery, drama, and gloriously messed-up--but heroic--guys to keep you flipping pages well into the night. Now I'm desperate for #3 in the series!
This was a new author and had not read the first book prior to reading this one. Due to reading this one,I purchased Ruby ink. Enjoyed the getting to know the siblings and finding out about their parents story. Good characters with unusual settings. Felt it had Clift hanger ending.
Amazing writing. Story is set at a fast pace that keeps you fully immersed while reading. The main characters, Evie and Bash, are not only solid on their own, but have an amazing dynamic together. Definitely recommend!!
Here we have proof that the sequel can be even better than the first book! Can't imagine a hotter dude than Sebastian Clairmont. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next installment.
