After his plane to Greece is hijacked, Canadian Michael Barrett finds himself in Ukraine on the run from the Mafia, in the company of his mysterious Ukrainian seat-mate, Dmitri. As Michael and Dmitri try to stay ahead of the pursuing Mafia, Michael struggles to figure out who to trust. In a country where bribery is rampant, and authorities are suspect, his only resource is the morose Dmitri, who is hiding his share of secrets. As the two fugitives race through the Ukrainian countryside in a desperate attempt to reach the border, catastrophe strikes, testing the tentative bond between them, and jeopardizing their hope of survival.

Douglas Morrison's fast paced writing made me feel like I was in the driver's seat in this thrilling novel about finding oneself in a wild chase. From the moment I entered the story I was hijacked into the plot and carried into the Ukrainian countryside where the goodness of people shone and made me feel I was not alone. Beautifully written with highly articulate dialogue that propels the novel forward, Course Correction brings us a new antihero in Dmitri and reminds us of the importance of belonging and being true to ourselves and to each other.

Thanks for the "thumbs up", Douglas. You reminded me that I haven't written a review yet.

Although the cover of Course Correction is anything but exciting, that is not the case with what is written between the covers. Hence the saying, don't judge a book by its cover. ; )

I expected to be reading a lot of political mumbo-jumbo, which I did, but it was just enough to explain the premise of the story.
What a rush! I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced, suspenseful story. It was written in such a way that I could envision myself, there, with the characters, throughout their escape. Michael and Dmitri, although at odds with each other, were both likeable characters. I was rooting for them all the way! What a relief to the nerves when Michael finally reaches safety but also a sadness that the story has come to an end and the fugitives must part company with each other and the reader.

I hope there will be another book, such as Course Correction, from the author soon...

What an adventure. I understand what someone means when they say
'couldn't put it down.' Experiencing reading this book was like driving on a narrow one lane mountain road with a 1000 foot drop. You can't help but keep looking and thinking ahead of what might happen or who could surprise you next around the corner. The whole plot was captivating and draws you right in. I haven't read something like this in a long time. Very refreshing. When I finished the last page the sun was just starting to rise. It made me wonder where the characters go next.
Start reading this action packed and bold journey where you are comfortable. You'll finish and be sitting in the same chair but I promise... YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU'RE ON HOME TURF.

I was attracted to this book (seen on the shelf of my local indie bookstore!) by its cover, saw that one of my favourite authors had "blurbed" it, and immediately picked it up. I read it yesterday for Canada Day --- it grabbed my attention from the first sentence and kept it throughout. It's a great story (regular guy finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time; problems ensue) well-told, and I'm keen to read the sequel.
