Rebecca Addison grew up in Wellington, New Zealand in a home where there were books in every room. She spent her childhood reading everything she could find and writing stories in the notebooks she bought with her pocket money. She wrote her first full length chapter book when she was seven, a comedy about a family of alligators, and hasn't stopped since.

In 2010, Rebecca settled in the Blue Mountains, Australia with her husband and two children. After a stint writing content for adult education, she tried her hand at children’s fiction, writing two junior fiction novels, the Jemima Cusbert Series, and one middle-grade novel.

Since then, Addison has self-published two contemporary romance novels, Still Waters (2015) and The 'Ohana Tree (2016). After a couple of years devoted to writing romance, she likes to think she’s found her niche with her latest book, a thriller set in Wellington and Sydney.

From a fresh new voice in contemporary romance, Rebecca Addison writes an impressive debut veiled in love and loss, a family’s long history of keeping secrets, redemption and starting over. My five-star rating is based on the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover. I will definitely be on the lookout for future books by this author.

The Preston family hierarchy is hiding business secrets that are not only tearing the family apart but, when the truth is finally revealed, the small mountain town where they live will also suffer from the tragic consequences. The captivating intrigue with multi-faceted twists definitely satisfied my love for the combination of romance sprinkled with a dusting of mystery.

Hartley Preston and Crew Sullivan (don’t you just love those names?) are both intelligent and successful characters in their own right, and each is also very likable and will probably leave their mark on your heart. Their story is often heartbreaking, while at the same time a beautiful and intensely charged romance. When a past overflowing with haunting memories collides with a present filled with deception and lies, an ice cream sundae may hold the answer to a brighter future for both.

I don’t want to leave the impression that this is an overall dark and gritty story – because it’s not. There is plenty of witty banter and playful interaction with a little toe-curling sensuality that nearly topples the tree-house (oh yeah, there’s a tree-house!). Crew and Hartley won’t disappoint as they share enough desire and passion to keep your e-reader screen steamed. Readers will find a well-balanced blend from start to finish of those required “feels” as the characters face life’s realities while following their dreams.

From its well-defined characters - including Jake and Eleanor, secondary cast characters, who I would love to see get their own story told - to the engaging and tantalizing plot, Still Waters delivers the goods. You shouldn’t miss this one.

Loved it. Easy 4.5

Super-smart Hartley Preston finds herself in over her head after a worrying discovery in her work as a talented research scientist, and flees to the sleepy coastal town of Twin Heads to figure out what to do next. Crew Sullivan happens to be in town too - but Crew is always fleeing. Until Hartley.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advance copy of Rebecca Addison's debut novel, Still Waters. This genre - New Adult - is always a bit risky for me, I don't read them often and many I do end up in the DNF pile. But Still Waters worked. I always feel as though good books read themselves with no effort on my part - I'm just swept along for the ride - and that was the case here. :D

Hartley is a little bit of a younger me: not just because she's super smart ( ;) ) but because she has an air of naïveté about her combined with a strong sense of wanting to do right/good in the world. She can't stand to see people hurt and that creates a more than a few issues for her. I fell for Crew though for opposite reasons - despite grappling with his own secrets on a daily basis, he has wisdom, warmth & a willingness to be open with Hartley that picks you up and sucks you right in. That that little thread of vulnerability wrapped up in a tough male exterior makes me swoon, I can't help myself. There was a lot of swooning last weekend lol.

There's more going on in this story too than just the romance, and watching over Hartley's shoulder as she figured out what to do had me on the edge of my seat more than once. There are some creepy creepsters in Hartley's recent past and they bring a twist to Hartley & Crew's tale that means you can never quite assume everything's rosy in the background. But I'll leave it at that for fear of becoming spoilery!

4.5 stars. I loved it.

"Humans are the cancer of Earth." I saw this quote earlier and it is just so true. Without us, the Earth would be thriving. Forest will remain forest and animals can live their happy lives. This is a small part of the story but it felt important. It is important to me.

The story itself is a love story about two people with complicated backgrounds. They meet in a small town. They fall in love. Then life catches up to them. I really liked the story. Everything happened in the right pace. I can wait for future books by the same author!

Two things I hated:
1. She said no but he insisted. It's weird. I expect no to be no but I guess there is no good story when people give up to easily. (?)
2. I hate the amount of privilege she had. When people buy you things, expensive or cheap, I think it is because they thought of you and somehow that should be enough. Just because a gift is more expensive.. doesn't mean the person who bought it for you is just showing off.

Occasionally I find it hard to get into books, struggling though the first two chapters before I wrap my head around where its going. This was NOT the case here and I was drawn in from the first words. I LOVE that the author has written a romance with a strong and smart female lead who has her own stuff going on. It is so refreshing! I was very sad to finish this completely absorbing book.

For those of you looking for an environmental type of theme, this is the story for you to fulfill your challenge.

I enjoyed the story very much. I'm tired of typing "It's a good story" and it was don't get it twisted. I liked the characters. The premisses of the story is believable. It's fast paced and a quick read. I can see myself reading another of Addison's books. I found myself smiling a lot while reading it. It was cute but with serious subjects, protect the Environment and overcoming a loved ones death, oh and family betrayal.

First of all, I liked this book. I didn't seem able to put the book away and I just wanted to keep on reading. That doesn't mean that I don't have a couple of points I didn't like though.

The story is about two people, Crew Sullivan and Hartley Preston, with a lot of problems and secrets. Hartley found out about some incriminating information which led her to see that her boyfriend and father aren't the credible and loving people she believed them to be. So, she ups and leaves to a town called Twin Heads. Where she unexpectedly meets the dark and unbelievably handsome Crew. And Crew has his own dark past and secrets. He is utterly broken and tries to run from this. Until he meets the beautiful and extremely smart Hartley and feels an instant pull to her. But will their feelings for each other be strong enough to survive the ugly truth?

You get to read both of their POV so you can get to know them both in depth. Crew is unbelievable and I really loved him. Besides the fact that he is crushingly handsome, he also has a determination that just makes you unable to not have strong feelings for him. He had to deal with so much in his life and he certainly didn't deal with it in the right way. But now he is not running away from it anymore. He isn't even scared to admit how wrong he handled things. He wants to make a change for Hartley. And even though he is scared for the things he feels for Hartley, he doesn't stop himself from feeling it. Of course I also liked the super smart Hartley, but she also caused me to feel irritated sometimes. It irked me that she asked Crew to be honest, but didn't return the favour. Even with the many opportunities Crew gave her to show him her secrets, she didn't give him what he wanted. I was glad though that she wasn't your typical spoiled rich girl. She showed that she could live without money in the real world. Jake, Crew's best friend, was adorable. I admired the way he was there for both Crew and Hartley without question, no matter how long or short he knew them.

I liked that Crew and Hartley both didn't do exactly what I expected of them. I thought Crew would be the one to keep on to his secrets. I also liked the way the writer described the sexual parts, without being too descriptive but focusing on their feelings. That is different than in a lot of other new adult books. Different in a very good way. I loved the depth within the story. This was the result of the stories Crew and Hartley both bring to the book. It didn't only revolve around the feelings they had for each other, but a big part was about the things that happened to them and how they dealed with that. I can honestly say I wept like a little baby sometimes, but there were also a lot of parts that kept me laughing my ass off.

There were also some things that could be better in my opinion. I wasn't always happy with the writing. It sometimes felt like we skipped parts in the story or that moments weren't descrived thoroughly enough. It gave me a restless feeling and that parts of the book became messy. This especially exasperated me at the ending. Don't worry, no spoilers! I liked the outcome (I almost thought I wouldn't get the ending I so desperately wanted), but it felt rushed to me. Which left me unsattisfied. I also missed some aggrevating sexual tension between Crew and Hartley. Don't get me wrong they had a lot of feelings for each other. They just acted too fasted on it, which bereft me of the excitement I wanted to see in the beginning of the book. But I have to say the story kept me captivated and it made me want to pick it up time and again. For the most part I just really loved the story and enjoyed reading the book.

If you're looking for a new adult book that has depth, because of the backstories, combined with some healthy swooning over the male character and romantic feelings that are described perfectly, this is the book for you!

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

The key to enjoying a book in a genre that you don't usually read is for the characters to mean something to you. And that is what happened for me with this gem.

Home, what does home mean to you? Is it the place you go to every night? Or the person...

Hartley is not your pouting rich-girl princess, needing a man to fix everything for her. In fact, now that her safe little world has been blown apart by her discovery that her father and her boyfriend are not the honest, decent people she needs them to be, she is more than capable of making her own way in the world. Extremely intelligent, and a good person at heart, what matters most about Hartley is her passion for the things she really believes in. I like that in a leading female character.

Crew is not your alpha male who treats everyone badly and blusters around getting by on looks alone. Sure, he is a bit broken - but so is Hartley, and aren't we all - but he also has his passions. He has a past, some of which haunts him still, but there is so much more to him. And yes, he does sound super hot as well (this is a book that is just begging for one of those reviews with the super cute gifs throughout), but that is only part of who he is as well.

Intelligently written, soooo easy to read, Still Waters had me laughing in parts and tearing up in others. I wanted to know what was going to happen to these people, and I cared about the decisions they made. A great book.

I was drawn into this book from the very first chapter. It started off with a bang and I instantly loved Hartley as a character. She had so many characteristics that I found so likeable and even though I wish she had been honest with Crew a little sooner, I understand why she didn't. I also loved Crew so much. Even though he is really damaged and hurting on the inside, there are so many things about him that made me smile. The playful banter between Hartley and Crew was so easy and they just got along so well that it was really easy to love the story. I especially loved how Hartley stuck by Crew after he told her about his past and how she tried so desperately to help him. So many women in NA stories run away and hide when things get tough and I was waiting for that to happen. I also loved how smart the two of them are and successful on their own.
Everything about this book sucked me in. I started it at 9pm one night and really didn't want to go to bed! I completely devoured the rest of the book the next day.
I'd love to read a story about Jake and Eleanor! They were such great secondary characters.

What an excellent debut NA from this Author. I found the story brilliant and intriguing. Was interesting reading the story or Crew and Hartley. Different names for characters which I liked as it is different. Hartley's bid for freedom from her father and boyfriend and Crew's bid for freedom from his past demons. A beautifully written story of 2 people entwined.
I'd love to read another from this author. I hope she continues to write more in this genre.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Still Waters and once I picked it up I struggled to put it down. Reading a book with a strong female protagonist was refreshing and I found myself willing Hartley and Crew together.

As the characters struggled to overcome the obstacles to their relationship I desperately wanted to jump ahead to the happy ending, even though I was unsure it would come.

I recommend that anyone who enjoys an involved story and relatable characters read this book.

I liked this book, but I have to be honest and say I didn't love it.
I agree with a lot of the other reviews, that it was well written for a debut novel, but just felt that the plot was nothing new.
The first chapter had me thinking it would be more of a suspense type novel but instead it was easy to predict what was going to happen and I felt this let the book down in some ways.

I was fortunate to be given an ARC of this book.

The characters are intriguing and it is a romance without drunken girls nights, lipstick, heels and an obviously impossible love interest. It is two people drawn together yet being set apart by their past and potential futures. We get into the heads of both the main characters which gives a nice balance to each perspective and I definitely wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next. The prose is rich in detail and I felt like I was really getting to know the characters.

If I have one quibble it would be that I felt that the last part of the book felt a bit rushed. I felt that there was the potential for Hartley to have more interaction with people and internal response about her choices or maybe a bit more backstory. But that is probably me being a bit fussy. The style is a bit reminiscent of Jodi Piccolt, which might be why I was expected things to be more drawn out than they were!

It was an enjoyable read.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I was totally hooked from the get go! This was a very well written debut book. I was happy to finally read a story with a very strong willed woman! Hartley did not take any crap from her family nor douchebag boyfriend David. Issues with the company she works for, which is owned by her father, causes her to leave to ponder what her next move would be. She meets Crew who has deep issues of his own and he and Hartley develop feelings for each other. They both embark in a somewhat whirlwind. And of course, the bottom falls out for both. There is a bit of a twist towards the end of the book which will blow your mind! I would have liked a bit more chapters as I did not want the story to end. I’d highly recommend reading this book you will thoroughly enjoy it. I will be reading more books written by this author.

This is my very first book review on Good Reads, and what a way to start!
I was very fortunate to receive an ARC of this book, and once I started it I struggled to put it down. NA is not usually a genre I enjoy, but Still Waters had me hooked. I quickly identified with Hartley (thanks to a shared background in Environmental Science and summers spent at geeky science camps) and particularly felt for her as she struggled with loyalty, family ties and doing the right thing. Crew is an intriguing male lead, and, like Hartley I found myself wanting to know more about him.
The story develops at a good pace, and the plot held my interest until the end.
A fabulous debut novel - can't wait to read more from this author!

I received this book in an exchange for an honest review. This story is about Hartley and Crew. Hartley has a fallout with her dad and boyfriend David which causes her to leave and move in with her best friend. There she meets hottie Crew who had something tragic happen in his past which has caused him to push happiness away because he feels he doesn't deserve it. There was a twist in the end I don't want to spoil it though but it was good. Although I did like the story I wished there would've been more to it. I wanted more drama as well like maybe David could've popped in more times. I felt the ending was rushed too I wanted more in their epilogue. I will still definitely read more books on this author.

I read this book as an ARC and I am pleased to say that this is a good one.

Hartley found out some stuff about her family and her company that made her question her role in both so she ran and ended up in a beach town. She met a guy who didn't necessarily want to found; throughout the book you will read their POV. This was very well done, it was easy to hear their voice.

The story flowed well and I found that I was very invested in what was going to happen next with the characters. Who you learn to like very early on in the story.

Some more stuff happens and yeah you'll just have to read this and find out what that stuff is! It's definitely worth it!

I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review.

I loved the characters of Hartley and Crew. How they connected and leaned on each other. How intense their emotions and feelings were.

Great descriptive writing and I really got involved with the characters.

I would have given 5 stars but there were a couple of books in the book where I got a bit confused about how fast the characters were connecting.

Hartley inviting Crew for a walk on the beach and then an intense kiss later had me reading back a chapter to see if I missed anything.

And then when Crew let Hartley in on his past to just felt a little too soon. I struggled to connect with their intimacy at times.

I enjoyed reading this book. It drew me in fast. Hartley was a strong and smart girl. She come from a well off family that let her down after she found out something going on that she didn't approve of. So, she ran.
Crew was a sweetie. I enjoyed his character. He was broken from something that happened in his past and was having a hard time overcoming it. Hartley was good for him. I just wish she would have told him her secret sooner so some things could have been avoided. Overall this was a great book and I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a great read.

I was lucky enough to receive and ARC copy of this book.

This is a New Adult book that will also appeal to older readers. I loved the story, the characters and the build up of the plot line. As I read I was left wondering what would happen next, Every twist and turn had different options and the story did;t follow the obvious paths, I loved this.

I also loved the characters and the strong female lead was well written.

My 5 stars are for the above reasons and because I had to lock myself away from my family in the early evening to finish the story. Only a 5 star book gets that treatment.

I often struggle to get engrossed in books these days. I guess I have a short attention span. I took Still Waters away with me when I knew I'd have some spare time. I couldn't put it down. All the other things I was supposed to be doing got ignored while I read this straight through late into the night. Still Waters is engaging and entertaining, it’s well written with a strong, intelligent female protagonist. Loved it, and will be waiting eagerly for the next book Rebecca Addison writes.

I enjoyed this book. It was quick and emotional read. Both characters are dealing with heavy issues. Crew is haunted by the past and Hartley is trying to deal with her present. But they managed to find each other in the centre of all their turmoil. I felt like the end was a bit rushed. All the loose ends of the story were wrapped up very quickly and suddenly. But it didn't effect my enjoyment of this book. I still give it high praise.

The New Adult genre isn't one I would lean towards, but I absolutely loved this book.

It was perfect escapism for me, the main characters became my friends who I cared for.

I love the way Rebecca Addison has written this novel from two points of view, each chapter feels fresh with clearly distinct voices.

I look forward to reading more from Rebecca!
