The tales of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table have been told and retold down the centuries. This retelling captures the spellbinding element of the rise to power of the boy fate decrees will be the "Once and Future King", his reign and his tragic, yet triumphant, passing.

Mitch: Reading 1200 page unabridged 'Le Morte d'Arthur
Me: Reads 65 page, illustrated, large print Arthur for Kiddies
Okay but in my defense, these illustrations are *gorgeous.* I read this book over and over again when I was a kiddo, and when I found it again recently, I had to reread it, just for the art alone. Now I want to cut out the illustrations, or make copies of them. Gorgeous.
Target audience: 6th through 12th grade. Summary: An Eyewitness book, this format provides today's readers, presumably more attuned to online reading than to more traditional formats, with a tremendous, almost encyclopedia-like array of illustrations, maps, photographs and so forth alongside a delightful retelling of the story which manages to bring the story alive and captivate the reader. More familiar as a publisher of travel books (travel books which can be referred to long after the journey has ended because of their beautiful illustrations) the Eyewitness format works remarkably well for children's classics. Details only the most dedicated of King Arthur aficionados would know are contained in this volume. Strengths/ weaknesses: The details and background information comprise the greatest strength for this selection. Personal critique: Very favorable, with so much backstory (from Stonehenge to Walt Disney) it was disappointing to see no mention of the Monty Python parody. Illustrations: Excellent illustrations give the reader a wonderful overview and offer perspective on this classic tale.
Very good book. I like the Eyewitness series of books. They're always very informative and they have a way of telling information in a manner that is engaging. It was no different with the Story of King Arthur. King Arthur has been a fascinating figure for centuries and this book tells the story very well. It isn't difficult to read and has great explanations and photos. They include stills from popular movies created about the King Arthur story over time as well as historical paintings. It is a great book.
Mm, nothing quite like these Eyewitness books, huh? This was the first literature book of the new year to read with my third graders, and it’s just lovely! Exquisite illustrations and excellent nonfiction sidebars to help understand the grand story and culture it came from!
When I was in 4th grade I read an abridged version of 2000 Leagues Under the Sea from this same series, and I remember it very fondly. Doesn't disappoint. I love all the historical annotations, cultural references, and other notes they include!
