UPDATED!Contains a chapter written in 2022 where the author talks about how she is doing now, aftert fourteen years with the high doses of vitamin D."The Coimbra Protocol relies on doses of vitamin D that range from 40,000 IU to 200,000 IU per day."Mounting scientific evidence clearly shows that vitamin D has a powerful effect on autoimmune diseases, yet most doctors continue to prescribe no more than 1,000 IU or 2,000 IU a day to patients that suffer from such conditions. In this book, Ana Claudia Domene describes her experience with multiple sclerosis and the treatment that has radically eased her symptoms, allowed her to discontinue all conventional medications, and restored her health.Developed by Dr. Cicero Galli Coimbra, a neurologist practicing in São Paulo, Brazil, the Coimbra Protocol is a therapeutic approach that relies on high doses of vitamin D to halt the misguided attacks of the immune system, and it has enabled thousands of patients around the world to keep their autoimmune diseases in permanent remission.
A journey of loss and redemption. It is a sad tale indeed how big pharma and conventional medicine ignore a much better way of dealing with MS . The brilliance and humanity of Dr. Climbers and the valor of his patients provide the touching soul of this book.
This book is for anyone who has an autoimmune condition or a loved one with an autoimmune condition. This is definitely not a complete guide. However, the personal journey of someone actually going through it without heavy science might help people get started.
That said, there are some things the author understandably gets wrong:
Autoimmune conditions are not the immune system misfiring. Mendelian Randomization should not be considered proof or evidence for anything. Looking at issues through the lens of Genetics only sets us back further. The idea of performing cardio exercise to foster stronger bones is misguided. Paying extra money for grass-fed meat and organic produce won't help you.
Also, the author mentioned that if they weren't following the Coimbra Protocol, they would be following the Terry Wahls Protocol. I advise against blindly following Terry Wahls.
