Great sequel to The Thornbearer. I love that time period in England, and Pepper Basham did a great job bringing her characters to life. Those who like historical romance, especially English historical, will enjoy this touching story.

I didn't think anything could topple Pepper Basham's first book, The Thorn Bearer, from its pedestal as one of my favorites. And while it's solidly still high on the list, The Thorn Keeper exceeded it in every way! No sophomore slump here... not at all. The beauty of Pepper's prose immediately sweeps you into the story where the characters (most familiar if you've read The Thorn Bearer) guarantee you won't be putting down the book until you've savored every last word. Catherine - sassy, sweet and strong in spite of her brokenness, yet in many ways uncertain. David - focused, dedicated and true but carrying the weight of forced burdens on his shoulders. When he turns that focus and dedication and true-ness in Catherine's direction??? SWOON!!! I mean... seriously. Make sure you have a fan handy. And a fainting couch. And you'll find that you suddenly develop a craving for peppermint. Or maybe that last part was just me. At any rate, trust me when I say that the romance in The Thorn Keeper is delicious and toe-curling and oh-so-heart-clenching. Perhaps the thing I like best about The Thorn Keeper (after the romance, of course, because - who am I kidding - we all know that's my favorite part of most books!) is the message of restoration. Pepper's exquisite & poetic way with words combined with the poignancy of Catherine's story will bring hope to anyone who feels that their past mistakes have nullified their present or future dreams. I highly recommend The Thorn Keeper for any fans of historical fiction, kissing books, and Christmas. (No...it's not a Christmas book. Just trust me on this one.)

I loved Catherine!! Her sister Ashleigh's story was wonderful, but by the end of it I had become utterly fascinated with Catherine and wanted so badly to spend more time in her head. And after finishing this delightful book, I immediately dived back in to all my favorite moments. Thank you for not giving up on Catherine, Ms. Basham! She snuck into my heart in book one and she's now officially stuck there forever. :)
Don't you just love when characters sink into your heart, especially when you don't expect it? Catherine is an intriguing mix of vulnerability and feistiness. Due to the events of book one, she now has a whole new way of life, in some ways that are awesome and some ways that are exceptionally hard. Her strength knows no bounds in the face of all that she now has to deal with. Especially when it comes to those determined to remind her of her bad choices in the past. And walking with her through each humiliating moment, I wanted to yell at every single person to stop it and start realizing how awesome Catherine is! Yet she's far from being alone. With her restored relationship with her sister, and her newfound determination for helping those less fortunate, she strides forth into mayhem and chaos regardless of her own personal risk. She finds new friends and allies and slowly but surely makes everyone around her realize just how special she truly is.
And David....ah, David. He knew right away how special she is and, disregarding every warning not to, befriends her and seeks to help her realize her own worth. Those two just make magic together! They fit in every way. Of course, their attraction causes some pretty swoony moments ;), but it's the way they strive to make each other better, the things they learn together (about themselves and about each other), the way they simply work through each situation that comes no matter what gets thrown at them. To put it plainly, they're better together than they are apart. Way better! :)
But! I have to mention the plot twist because whoa! There was a certain situation that I was not expecting at all and I was so afraid of where things would possibly go. But I should have known to trust Ms. Basham because she clearly loves these characters as much as I. And the hard places she chose to take them ended up shaking Catherine's story around in ways that made it every so much better.
Now I am beyond excited that we get a book three! There are so many other characters I want to know more about. And if this book is any indication, Ms. Basham's storytelling will only be more amazing next time. So read this one, my friends! It wrapped me up in warm fuzzies and left me with a smile on my face. Isn't that what all readers are looking for? :)

I recently told a friend that this Pepper Basham book is not a movie–it is a mini-series. Packed full of action, heart, and romance, The Thorn Keeper leaves an impact long after the final words are read. I adored Catherine’s journey of growth, as a person AND in her faith. This story is such a sweet picture of redemption and love. The bittersweet but beautiful romance between Catherine and David will stay with me for a LONG time.
This is just a great book and a fantastic addition to the series. I can't wait to read the next one.

I can tell you right now, this book, The Thorn Keeper will be in my year end top lists. I know, a tad bit unfair to all those books I've yet to read, but there's still room for them for sure. I'm just letting you know (ahead of time) the magnitude of how I enjoyed and love this book, and the characters, especially Catherine Dougall (Kat).
Nothing can prepare me with the level of completeness and perception Pepper wrote about Catherine in The Thorn Keeper. Her journey in Christ - her change, her compassion and selflessness developed like a well seasoned jambalaya, with all the right ingredients balanced to fully enhanced its flavors as it stewed together. Only in Christ can a person's beautiful nature be completely and utterly uncovered and exhibited. Catherine's big heart, and her passion to doing what is right in God's eyes humbled me. Like many, she carries the thorns of her past. In her mind, she thinks she's unworthy for any additional blessings the Lord has in store for her, especially a man as good as Dr. David Ross. Yet, it is through this self-denial we see how she's transform from a broken mess to something luminous and whole, just as a quilt sewn together from many pieces.
"God will see you through this. Trust Him to surprise you with more love than you could ever have imagined on your own. He will take the remnants of your life and fashion them into something new. Something beautiful."
Catherine's our protagonist, but other characters perfectly round out the story with so much depth. Jessica's critical and bitter reactions towards Catherine reminds us how others can be blinded by our past. However, as Christ's light emanate from a redeemed Catherine, we see that nothing can smother the work of God. Madame and the girls gives us spontaneity and animation, bringing the whole story to life! We can't forget the appearances of Ashleigh and Sam, the main characters of The Thorn Bearer. I'd especially enjoyed the fact that Pepper continued the growth of sisterly bond between Ashleigh and Catherine. Then, there's the very innate goodness of David and the easy banter between him and Catherine that will have you smile, laugh and even sigh at times. Tears will pool and fall. Yet, Catherine's cleverness and resourcefulness, coupled with David's genuine gift of service is a perfect partnership and the perfect pair to fall in love with.
I know, I'm getting excessively long in my ramblings here, but The Thorn Keeper enraptured my heart to its full extent, as capable as a story can. (Very similar to Julie Lessman's Daughters of Boston series.) This is one that resonates with me and reminds me our broken past of choices does not define us. God can and will work miracles for us. He not only forgave us for our sins through the death of His son, He will instill change in us, as long as we ask and trust. And with that comes blessings beyond our belief.
"Don't underestimate God's ability to work miracles, but most importantly, don't underestimate his joy in overwhelming you with His love."
A story of God's love and His relationship with us. A story of forgiveness and redemption, compassion and service, The Thorn Keeper deserves a place in your heart and on your shelves.

After reading The Thorn Bearer, I couldn't wait to start The Thorn Keeper! In The Thorn Bearer, Catherine made a remarkable change from a shallow, petty, manipulative woman to a humble, caring servant of the Lord. In The Thorn Keeper, she continues to grow in her relationship with Christ, but she also continues to face the consequences of her prior actions, and she often views herself as unworthy of love and happiness because of her past.
I don't normally highlight fiction, but this quote struck me as so simple and so profound that I had to mark it: "You've made some hard choices, make no mistake. But your past choices only define what you've done. They don't determine who you'll become." Isn't that great?
A LOT happens in this novel, and I can't really touch on much of it because of spoilers. So let's just say that Basham took the novel in places I never expected, and I loved it so much. The romance between David and Catherine is so sweet, but my favorite part of the novel is Catherine's professional journey (which, again, I can't elaborate on because spoilers). The way God redeemed her story was something to watch.
I liked and recommended The Thorn Bearer ... but this novel is on another level. I loved it so much, and I can't wait to continue the series with The Thorn Healer!

I’m not sure how I missed this wonderful series by Pepper Basham, but I am SO glad that I now have had the opportunity to read it.
This series takes place during the time period of World War 1 and gives us not only an up-close view of those times from a historical viewpoint, but also the sweeping story of the Dougall family and their experiences (especially in the medical field) during the the war.
This particular book features Catherine’s story. She’s been a flirt and a socialite, but has come to realize how shallow and sinful her life has been. She’s now dedicated to helping build a much needed hospital for the wounded soldiers. Her spiritual journey is a touching one, and the romance between she and David is sweet.
My heart was touched by the story of the Dougall sisters. Both had heartaches and made mistakes in their past. My favorite part of this series is seeing the way the sisters returned to God and the way their lives changed to reflect His grace and forgiveness. I enjoyed this series and look forward to reading it again.

After reading Pepper D. Basham’s debut novel, I eagerly anticipated her next book in the Penned in Time series. I knew ahead of time that this second book would be about Catherine, and I was intensely curious to see how the story would play out; Catherine did not get much sympathy from me in the first book, so I wanted to see how the author would bring me around.
And bring me around she did! Catherine’s story, which readers learned part of in the first novel, was the perfect vehicle for sharing grace and how God can redeem the very things which condemn us—in fact turning consequences of our sin into something beautiful that God can use to further His kingdom and bring Him glory. The sin may be different for each person, but the need for redemption is just as great for me as it is for someone with a past similar to Catherine’s; the difference is often that she and the women she tries to help are more aware of their need than many.
There is a constant tension between appearances and true worth, between playing a part and doing what is right, and even between compassion and rules that govern polite society. Without preaching to the reader, Ms. Basham shows us the difference and where we may uncomfortably identify with the pretenders rather than the heroine.
I loved the historic details in this novel—one of the reasons I read historical fiction is to learn as I’m entertained. Fine points, like not naming a child until he was a few months old because they didn’t want to get attached if he wasn’t going to survive, help add realism and depth to the fictional story.
Due to the continuing storyline and the first part of Catherine’s story being in The Thorn Bearer, I would encourage readers to start there. I would also caution that some scenes are suitable for more mature teens on up based on two particular instances that sharing would be spoiling. Nothing gets overly graphic, but one in particular was shocking and the other was an intense scene where the curtain draws at the right time.
As with her other work, the prose is stunning in The Thorn Keeper; metaphors and even subtext add beauty to the storyline, including when the parallels are left unfinished for the reader. It isn’t just a good story, but a story enhanced by the way it is told. With nods to classic literature, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

This is the second book I've read by Pepper Basham. It's the second time I've been swept away by her romantic stories and the second time I've been touched to tears with her words. The Thorn Keeper is a book to read slowly and savor. It is so full of emotion and beautiful, bittersweet redemption. It's not one I think readers will possibly forget.
I loved Catherine and David. These characters cling to your heart long after the the last page. I loved seeing the differences in their pasts and what God teaches them through the book. Their friendship is fun and beautiful, but their romance is sooooo much more. Oh boy, is it sweet and steamy! ;) LOVED every minute of it! For those of you with a heart for romance novels, you don't want to miss this one, trust me.
I enjoyed the small bits of history pieced in and even survived a couple of the twists that really threw me for a loop! Wow, I did not see a few things coming. ;) The incredible dedication to their callings made me love these characters even more. Their hardships are real and applicable for a hurting world and their faith and healing in God is also very real.
While this book is part of a series and I was glad to see where things picked up with Catherine, readers can still appreciate this story separate from The Thorn Bearer. Every chapter pulled me right into the next and I have no doubt this book is gonna capture many hearts.
I already have both of the books in this series on my kindle, but I plan on getting them both in paperback as well. They deserve a spot on my bookshelf. They deserve to be read over again and shared with others. I hope all of you will take the opportunity to read this special story. Thank you, Pepper, for a beautiful journey.

I did not think I could enjoy a novel as much as I did this novel's predecessor, The Thorn Bearer. But Pepper Basham's sophomore novel blew me away from beginning to the unforeseen end.
We first met both main characters, Catherine Dougall and Dr. David Ross in The Thorn Bearer when he leads her to placing her shattered dreams, heart and life in the hands of the Ultimate Lover of even the most lost souls.
With WWI raging ever nearer the homefront of Ednesbury, England, Catherine and David grow closer through common goals in caring for patients and orphans alike, while Catherine finds a new purpose to her love of fashion and out of gratitude for her own redemption. The deep grace this beautifully real fictional character comes to find and extend to those around her is not only a sound example to emulate in real life--but it shows the life changing power of Christ's love. Faith, coupled with action, could be one phrase to sum up this novel.
Beyond the war, Catherine and David both invidiually and together are truly tried by fire through out the novel. Conniving relatives, dreams seem to slip thru their fingers only to come truer than they ever could have hoped for and it is such a beautiful story. I don't want to giveaway any spoilers! Their romance is swoon-worthy, tempered with such a sweetness even in the face of a world war and a surprising twist near the last third of the book.
The rich tapestry of the tangled threads of what goes wrong, what does go right, the surprises and the scarlet thread of redemption through every word makes this a story not soon forgotten. Five stars to The Thorn Keeper.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
I really enjoyed The Thorn Keeper! Catherine is desperately trying to overcome her past and is trying to live the life that God wants her to live. And Dr. David Ross is just the person who wants to help her with that. But can this relationship work, with David’s life so different than Catherine’s.
Pepper Basham has created the perfect cast of characters to tell this wonderful story of love, forgiveness and second chances. I really enjoyed The Thorn Keeper! Catherine is desperately trying to overcome her past and is trying to live the life that God wants her to live. And Dr. David Ross is just the person who wants to help her with that. But can this relationship work, with David’s life so different than Catherine’s.
Pepper Basham has created the perfect cast of characters to tell this wonderful story of love, forgiveness and second chances. Wow. I have been super busy without a lot of time for reading, but when I started this book, I could not put it down. It is the second book in the "Penned in Time" series and being set during WW1, has many unique qualities. It was amazing!
The storyline is unique by itself, but the historical detail of clothing design, hospitals, and the deep spiritual message sets this book apart from others.
It does deal with some harder topics like unwed mothers, suicide, and healing from abuse, so for that reason this would be a book for mature high schoolers or adults.It is all done from a Christian perspective so nothing is overly graphic, but just more mature content.
There is also a beautiful romantic thread throughout the book, of perseverance and healing. I will not give away the story, but this was a truly beautiful love story of sacrifice and love that overcomes obstacles.
I wanted to keep reading, but at the same time, did not want it to end.

My heart went out to Catherine. The drama of her past was overwhelming. Her transformation was so beautiful to watch. Love is a powerful force. I'm left in awe of what the Lord is able to bring out our our brokenness.

Pepper Basham has done it again! I think the most beautiful thing about Pepper's writing is her poetic prose. She has such a natural talent for it! The most beautiful thing about this story is how the message of God's mercy, grace, and love is woven so naturally into the story line. The characters are flawed, passionate (let's be honest, Christians experience passion, too, so it's refreshing to see real characters who are not icicles, but the author does it so tastefully), and so madly in love. The twists in the story are fun, with one being a very unexpected twist. And the conclusion is satisfying but not neat--and I say that in a very good way.
Pepper Basham is a seriously talented and hard-working author who will take your breath away with every turn of a page. Please do yourself a favor and read this book.

The Thorn Keeper is the second installment of the Penned in Time series. This book is wonderful. Characters learn the lesson of redeeming oneself. Best book written by Pepper Basham to date. Looking forward to more by her in the future.

I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. The Thorn Keeper is the second book in the Penned in Time series by Pepper D. Basham. This book tells the story of Catherine Dougall and her new faith. She has a reputation of manipulation so others judgement of her has her feeling filled with self-doubt. Then she gets pregnant.
Dr. David Ross is a kind doctor but he also feels like Catherine should reap what she has sown. His life has been one of careful plans to help give him an upstanding reputation. He sees how Catherine has reformed and wants to give them a chance.
This book is filled with a lovely story of romance and redemption. Once I picked up this book, I did not want to put it down. I feel the author does a good job of showing faith without making the book preachy.
I think the characters are believable and the story is one that could be read again for the feeling the reader is left with.
I highly recommend this book.

If you were to ask me right now, what my favorite book of the year is...I would mumble and grunt for a few minutes and then rattle off a list of at least 10 books. But without a doubt, The Thorn Keeper will be at the top of the list.
The Thorn Keeper posses a certain eloquence that enraptures you from the very beginning. I can't count the number of times that I had tears in my eyes as I read (tearing up right now in fact, thinking about the message of this story), or squealed with delight, or wanted to purse whomp someone, and there was one instance that I was in such shock, I literally felt like I was going to hurl. Out of all the books that I have read this year, The Thorn Keeper is the one that touched the depth of my soul in a way that completely turned my world upside down. The romance is so sweet and quite passionate (all clean of course), but that only scratches the surface of the content of the book.
Whether through decisions in our past or reasons unknown to us, sometimes we have been given difficulties that we have to walk through. We would not recommend making those choices and hope that others are spared the pain and suffering we have endured. Yet even though it is hard, we would not be the people we are today if we had not gone through it. God has brought us through the valley...Not so that we can look over our shoulder and long to be back on the other side, but to look forward and press onwards. Do not let your dreams be forgotten along the way. Even if it doesn't seem as if they can or will ever come true. If God has placed a dream in your heart, never let go of it. Whether it is ministry, missions, art, dance, fashion or family.
In conclusion, I would have to say that Pepper Basham's books are among the best I have ever read. Filled with hard lessons and real life, balanced with passion and faith. Only a very talented author can take someone whom I despised in book one, bring them to redemption, and within 36 pages of the book they find a way to worm their way into my heart. Catherine and David's journey of discovering true love is so very tender. When life throws them a curveball, will they rely on their own strength to make it through, or will they trust in the love of the Father to carry them? In order to truly understand and appreciate Catherine and David's history, I highly recommend reading The Thorn Bearer first (which is another favorite of mine).

Pepper D. Basham has a way of writing that grabs at your heartstrings. Although not quite as intense as the first book, the story of Catherine still has a depth of emotions that will keep you enthralled page after page.
So, the disliked Catherine of the first book has found her way to brokenness and repentance and is striving to be what God is calling her to be. She is facing the consequences of her sins and has many obstacles to overcome in her battle to be a better person. As much as you might dislike her in the first book, you'll come to admire & love her in this book. She's a strong character and once she surrenders to God and repents and asks forgiveness of those she's hurt, she stays strong but in much better ways.
David and Catherine's love story has many ups and downs and is beautiful and heart-wrenching at the same time. The pull of David's dream and the scheming of his aunt makes it hard for him to surrender to the pull of loving Catherine. And Catherine's past causes her to be wary of forming any attachment to any man. You'll cry and then sigh in delight at the romance between these two.
The themes of grace, forgiveness, hope, healing, and reconciliation continue in this book. Again, just like the first book, The Thorn Bearer, I was pulled into and captivated by the story of these two sisters. You won't forget this story!

The Thorn Keeper by Pepper Basham is a delightful Christian historical novel and the second book in the Penned In Time series. I would recommend reading book one first as this one follows on immediately afterwards.
It is still 1915 but the focus of this novel is on older sister Catherine. God has redeemed her and called her by name. Her past no longer defines her as she is a new creation in Christ Jesus.
Sometimes we fear that we are not ‘good enough’ to be used by God but “I can use you right where you are. I can use you as you are.” God uses us as He finds us and then He changes us. We do not need to clean our act up and then come. God says ‘come’ and then we will change with His love.
The novel deals with the theme of fallen women and their children. “How could anyone lay the sins of the mother on his little head?” It is horrifying to the modern reader to witness the stigma attached to unmarried mothers and their babies. A kind hearted character sees beyond the situation and offers a helping hand.
We all have dreams. The best dreams are always God’s dreams that are far greater than anything we could ever imagine. “God dreamed bigger dreams for her than she ever could.”
The whole novel is about love – the love of God for a character and the love we have for each other. God’s character is love. He commands us to love Him and each other. I loved this powerful quote:
“His love isn’t based on what you’ve done, who you are, or even how much you love Him in return. He loves.”
This is a cracking series. It’s on to book three now.

I'll start with the negatives:
This book started slowly for me, and as it is a long time since I read the first novel in this series, there was some confusion about the characters.
Initially I was annoyed as it seemed that an American woman came marching into an English town to fix all of there problems, as being American she could obviously had so much more insight into their situations than anyone else could. I found this more than a little patronising, but something kept me reading.
The positives:
The ending: This book got really good in about the last twenty percent, I'm pleased that I kept reading to get to this point, and the unexpected twist, which tested the characters to their limits.
I really appreciated that both characters had come to faith before falling for each other and embarking on a relationship. I think that Christian fiction can often send out a dangerous message in this area, and I'm pleased that this one did not fall into this trap.
I also appreciated that the heroine had real flaws, which realistically effected how she acted.
I would recommend this book, but only if you have already read the first in the series, recently. I will continue to read the last of the trilogy as I am interested to see what the author does.

This is the second book in her Penned in Time series and I loved it just as much or even more than the first one. I fell in love with the hero, David. I mean, what's not to love about him. He is a faithful follower of Christ who seeks to put others needs above his own and he is a handsome doctor. I also felt that the heroine, Catherine, would be the best friend a gal could ever have. I definitely would love to be just like her. In fact, I felt a little convicted. She became a Christian and it radically changed her life. Instead of having her selfish, all about me mindset she used to have, she sets out to serve others. She sees a need and doesn't stop until she does everything in her power to make it happen. She serves others without expecting anything in return. She loves David, but doesn't want to hurt his reputation. She doesn't feel worthy of his love. He loves her and pursues her despite the fact she turns away his affections. (Isn't that just like Christ, always pursuing us even when we don't feel worthy of his love.) There is a twist at the end that blew me away. I can't wait to read the third installment in this series. So, with all that said, I highly recommend this awesome book!

April 16, 2020I’m reading Pepper Basham’s Penned in Time series all out of order… A few years ago, I loved The Thorn Healer (Book #3), and despite my intentions, I only recently made time for The Thorn Keeper (Book #2). Here’s to hoping that it won’t take me another few years to get to The Thorn Bearer (Book #1)! Luckily for me, these books are perfectly enjoyable on their own (though I’m sure they’re even better in order).
In The Thorn Keeper, a tender and charming romance unfolds amidst the hardship of World War I. Through the challenges they must face (both inwardly and outwardly), it proves easy to fall in love with the characters—Catherine Dougall and David Ross—as they complement and uplift each other well. From beginning to end, their story is lovely.
Readers of historical romance, definitely do not hesitate to add this book to the TBR.

I loved this book even more than the first book The Thorn Bearer! Again, Pepper's opening words draw you in: "There is a distinct difference between a heroine with a promised happy ending & a prodigal who must design her own." While I didn't like Catherine in the first book, she was endearing in this book. This captivating book about brokenness, redemption and second chances is full of precious gems! I have 2 favorites: "We are protected by His grip in such a precious way that the good & the bad must pass through His fingers to us." and (like a tapestry) "On one side there's loose strings & confused tangles, but when turned over & seen properly, it's a masterpiece." And THIS is a masterpiece that will touch anyone's heart who reads this book!!

Y'all Ms. Basham knocked my socks off with this read! I cannot begin to articulate the beauty of Catherine Dougall's story. It's a book that EVERY believer needs to read. To know that God can turn your old self and ways and refashion them for a new self and skills to glorify Him in the Kingdom.

Love truly does win
While Catherine seeks to accept God's love and forgiveness for her past mistakes, she's also busy learning to truly love and help those around her, including Dr. Ross and his dreams. Of course, David is a selfless and noble hero in his own right and while the ending caught me by surprise, it was the perfect reminder that with God's help love truly does win.

I loved this book. David is a swoon-worthy character of epic proportions. And I loved witnessing Catherine's transformation as she came to understand and accept grace. This is one of the steamiest Christian fiction books I've read, so if you're averse to that you might want to skip this one. It was nothing untoward, and the couple is married, but it still surprised me a bit.
Again, I'm disappointed with the publishing (as I was with the first Penned in Time book). The formatting is terrible and the multiple grammar mistakes make my skin crawl!
But Basham is an incredible author who continues to impress me with her character development and story-telling. I can't wait to read more by her!

Pepper D. Basham is a gifted story teller. She writes in a way the characters come alive off of the pages and it feels like you are right there with them : ) One line in the book that I enjoyed....... We are never promised the next breath, but we are expected to do what we can with the breaths that we have.....

Catherine Dougall has found peace and meaning, working as a nurse alongside David Ross, helping him to put back together hundreds of men torn apart by the battlefield.
David struggles to provide care for those in need, not only those wounded on the battlefield, but those in town from less reputable backrounds, and those who cannot afford to pay the town doctor. He is dependent on his grandmother for funds, which makes his difficult job even harder.
Can Catherine and David overcome their obstacles of class and past, to find a bright future?
Catherine has found peace and contentment, working as a nurse, since coming to Christ her life has changed drastically and there are those who are still skeptical. One of them being Jessica, David's sister. I loved how Catherine acknowledges her past and mistakes, and puts them behind her, she wants to help others to matter the cost, and finds joy in putting others first.
There is a lot going on this book, with a fast moving plot, and plenty of little twists along the way, Catherine is definitely a very busy lady! She is constantly giving herself to her nursing, orphan children, and helping cast off women make a self sustaining business for themselves.
I like David and how he begins to see Catherine differently over the course of the story, he knew her before her change, and at that point would have had nothing to do with her, but as he sees her grow in love and compassion for others, he comes to care for the woman she has become.
Overall, a fantastic heartfelt journey of love and determination to face up to the past. I liked how this book talked alot about new beginnings, and how the past doesn't control the future, God is bigger than all of that. David and Catherine are great friends, and it was good to see how their relationship grew. I also liked Jessica, she is a good sister, with a true heart. Fantastic read, would definitely recommend!
