This was such a wonderful, easy to read, entertaining story! I don't think I have ever been disappointed by anything Lauren McKellar has written! I truly love the way she draws you into her books that make you feel a part of the story!
I just loved the characters, the sass, humour, the way Madison and Tate met, how things went for them , considering Tate being famous!! Especially since things are not always what they seem!!!
I loved Tate's sister too, she was funny!! I absolutely loved the way it ended. Sigh and swoon big time at Tate.
A really beautiful book.

4.5 LIPSTICKS

For me Lauren McKellar's writing has always been evocative, her prose beautiful, her Crazy in Love and Emerald Cove series have broached a line between what I would call older YA and NA, veering on the "safer" when it comes to sex, not necessarily fade to black or suggestive romance like what I've come to expect from YA, but her writing has always focused on the connection between in more than just the physical sense. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Fame, the premise intrigued me, the idea itself felt fresh for McKellar, I was in need of something light, something funny, something sexy, something I could lose myself in, forget about my worries and just slip into reader space and be entertained, Fame was effortless, in every sense of the word.

When Madison Winters walks into work one morning she is prepared for her life to change, she certainly wasn't mistaken, the cushy promotion she expected...gone...her loving fiancé...gone...catching him in a compromising position with another woman will tend to do that... in the blink of an eye everything changes, when she's sent to an exotic island for a yoga retreat she figures this might be the break from her new reality she desperately needs, I mean how much else can actually happen to her right?

"The first rule of one-night stands is that you don't stick around, not unless you're hoping for something more."

Tate Masters is living a dream existence, as Hollywood's golden boy, with his squeaky clean image life is good, until tales from his past come calling, suddenly the golden boy is just like every other Hollywood bad boy, his future success depends on his ability to shush the nay sayers and put out a united front with his girlfriend, and keep his head down without raising anymore questions, shooting on an exotic island seems like the perfect thing for him, and really how much could go wrong there?

Madison is strong, resilient, brave, even in the face of her life crumbling she keeps going, from the high flying lifestyle she was quickly becoming accustomed to a much less exotic life, she knows her only option is to not give up, interspersed with sharp wit, exotic locales so beautifully described that the sights and smells bounce off the page and sinfully sexy moments are heartbreakingly honest and raw scenes where you truly feel what Madison is thinking and feeling, the crushing grief of saying goodbye to the life she had imagined, of realising that what she had always believed was true and real had long since disappeared into the ether. Ironically losing everything might just be exactly what she needed in order to figure out what it truly is she wants from her life, written in a way that Fame had me simultaneously devouring the pages whilst trying desperately to savour the feeling that McKellar conjured.

The author shows her depth here, having cemented her place as a go to writer of heavy emotion, one who's ability to discuss even the hardest of topics with sensitivity transcends the usual YA/NA crossover, her talent not limited to one genre, where my previous favourites by the author left me feeling solemn and introspective, Fame was a breath of fresh air, hilariously funny, incredibly sexy, ultimately swoon worthy, Madison and Tate left me smiling long after I turned the last page.

So I'm gonna give this 4 stars!
I did really enjoy it but there were a few parts that annoyed me abit, like at the end when love is declared and you think they are gonna live happily ever after and then the heroine says look I do love you but I need time to find myself.. What? No grab hold of that sexy man, don't push him away! And then several months later she's finally found herself so now she can go to him.. Personally that really grates on me, I understand what the authors are trying to do there however I want my heroine to be so deeply in love with the hero that she can't live another day without him! I don't think I'm asking for much lol

Madison had life all worked out and this birthday should have been perfect as not only was she turning 23, she was up for a promotion at work and getting married in two weeks to her perfect fiancé. However, Madison's world crashed when her best friend got the promotion she deserved, she got moved to a department that covered healthy green living instead of fashion which was her world, and then to make it worst, she came home early and caught her fiancé bonking a girl from his job named Canada. If that wasn't bad enough, both Madison and her now ex-fiancé work in the magazine industry and are bound to bang into one another at events. When Madison is allowed to attend a wellness retreat in Bali for work, she jumps on the opportunity to at least get some time away and clear her head. Madison arrives in Bali and is also on the island filming a new movie is Hollywood actor Tate Masters. Over a night of drinks, the pair connect and imagine Madison's surprise when she realizes that she just slept with a Hollywood actor and now the next time she meets him, she will let him have it as he just turned her into the worst thing she hates - a cheater. To the world, Tate Masters is in a relationship with actress Mikaela, but the truth is not what it seems. Maybe visiting the island was just the perfect remedy for Madison as she is not only rediscovering herself, finding happiness but also a possible new romance. Fame was a good read and one I waited so long to read as I am busy trying to clear my kindle of reads, I have had for years like this one. The other thing I loved about this book was that it was set in Australia mainly , being across the ditch - I often feel at home with Australian set books.

Madison Winters thought she was leading the high life. She’s about to get married to her fiancé’ Mike and get the promotion she’s been finally waiting for as Deputy Editor at Lola. Sadly, the plans for her future become suddenly derailed as not only does the promotion get given to her best friend, but her fiancé’ turns out to be a cheating sod. Madison’s new role now catapults her directly into the path of where her leather wearing and bacon eating days are over. As deputy editor of Live Well, the otherwise known, “Hippy magazine.” She is then sent by her Editor to Bali for a wellness retreat for a week which she hopes will clear her head, most of it seems to be going to plan, until she meets Tate Masters.

Tate Masters is the all-American golden boy, in line for greatness. He has a girlfriend Mikaela, aspiring film career and an opportunity to reach the epitome of stardom- provided he can keep it in his pants and out of the newspapers. With his reformed playboy antics tightly stowed and closely monitored by his sister Janie, he is trying to do all it takes to keep his nose clean so he can provide for her and her unborn baby. He knows what is expected of him from the fans, “The people want you to win. Everyone love it when you succeed, especially when you’re America’s up-and-coming golden boy.” He believe he’s on the right path until the tabloids get hold on some juicy gossip that can potentially unravel all that he’s working hard to protect, “That’s the thing about Hollywood. They love you-until they don’t.”

While Madison struggles with the yoga workshops where, the yoga instructor’s “inner spirit doesn’t need Netflix like” hers, and Tate is “almost at the top, there’s just so far to fall,” these two characters eventually meet. The chemistry is thick and the witty comebacks are hilarious.
“Quit staring, you dick.” Ouch.
“It’s a free country.”

As the novel progresses, the tension thickens, despite there being a clear line that they are not meant to cross. However, there’s only so much you can pull at a line, before it snaps. “Scrap that. That kiss was damn hot. Whether their relationship was real or not, he should be stiff as a corpse.”
Fame is a new style of writing from this author and what is rewarding, is how effortless it was to read this. It is a true talent for an author to be able to move from one genre to another, in a seamless fashion. Fame was light hearted and witty, and while the one liners had me highlighting it in parts, there was a vulnerable tenderness that showed how realistic these characters were. That life was unpredictable and if you just ‘be yourself’ you could make the world yours.

Madison Winters’s 23rd birthday is, hands down, the worst day of her entire life. It is epically bad. Just when you think it can’t get worse, it goes nuclear. In an attempt to make the best of a gloriously shitty situation, Madison leaves behind her fast-paced, high fashion life, and settles in for some clean eating and downward dog island life.

Slowing down is not at all appealing for the ambitious and hyper-driven Madison, but this break from her reality may be exactly what she needs. What she absolutely does not need is to wind up in the crosshairs of Hollywood’s latest golden boy. So, when she wakes up next to Tate Masters, after a wild night of heavy drinking, her world is turned on its ear yet again.

For Tate Masters, this careless escapade could have dire consequences. He’s still recovering from a low blow dealt to him by the media, and more negative “wild boy” press is exactly what he doesn’t need. However, he can’t seem to get the little spitfire out of his mind, and the sexual chemistry between them is pretty much off the charts. Even as his brain tells him “no”, his body screams yes—and once his heart gets involved, it’s game over. The trick will be following his heart, getting the girl, and not losing everything he’s worked for his entire life.

No pressure.

I adored Madison and Tate. I loved their sparky chemistry—they’re fun, and flirty, and fiery. They’re a little bit forbidden, which makes everything that much more exciting. But mostly, they’re real. They’re sweet and tender, and they allow each other to just “be” in a way that the rest of the world doesn’t. They were never frustrating or annoying or childish—I never felt like they went over the top or manipulated my heart. They just carved out a place for themselves and settled right in.

I also loved how Madison and Tate related to the world around them. For Tate, it was his unwavering devotion to the people he cared most about—even at the expense of his own needs. He was loyal and giving and amazing. For Madison, it was her journey to find herself and her growth throughout the book. I loved watching her evolve, develop relationships with new friends, and relate to her family (who were hilarious and, though their bit was small, some of my favorite characters in the whole book).

This is a “feel good” book. I luxuriated in it—I didn’t want to rush it. I wanted to suspend time while Madison and Tate discovered each other. Fame is light, funny, sexy, and sweet—my heart is happy and my smile is big, and I am hoping there’s more to come in this fun new series! ~ Shelly, 4 stars

I'm a mood reader and quite often I love a light, sweet and sexy read. so when Fame hit my kindle it was perfect timing. Fame is written with dual POV, ( which I love!) Madison Winters and Tate Masters.

Madison is the up and coming star at fashion magazine Lola, she's engaged to her amazing high school sweetheart Mike and on the day of her 23rd birthday she's up for the promotion she's being working towards, her life seems perfect. Until it's not.

Broken hearted and feeling rejected she takes the opportunity to travel for work to a wellness yoga retreat to Bali. Surrounded by downward dogs and kale smoothies isn't Madison's ideal way to nurse a broken heart, so first chance she gets she sneaks off to the local bar to drown her sorrows in a bottle of tequila.

Sexy up and coming movie star Tate Masters has his own set of problems he's trying to drown and when the two end up arguing in the small local bar the sexual tension and chemistry explodes !

Fame is full of crazy monkey sex, drama that's not just for the cameras and a few life lessons thrown in for good measure. nothing is simple or easy for the pair, but the strong connection that they share really shines through.

"pushing her away is hard, but keeping her in my arms is harder."

Tate is like my ideal book boyfriend, he's sweet and sexy and also a bit naughty. What girl doesn't love a guy who sets up romantic beach dates and whispers sweet nothing in her ear one night, then ravages her over and over while talking dirty the next.

I think we all need a bit of Tate Masters in our life!

Realmente me gustó.

Fame is a unique twist on the movie star romances out there, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with Madison and Tate!

When this story begins, Madison is on top of the world, everything good that can happen is about to happen to her, and then everything falls apart. The first chapter I wasn’t a big fan of Madison, as she seemed a little conceited , but my opinion of her changed rather quickly and I felt her pain. Everything that could go wrong for Madison goes wrong, and she doesn’t even know who she is anymore. When she ends up in Bali for a yoga retreat for her new job, she’s cynical and not looking forward to the trip, but then Tate Masters enters her life. Tate Masters is an up and coming movie star, in a fake relationship, and everything is falling apart. He knows what he needs to do to help his sister and his career, but upon meeting Madison he starts to second guess everything.

When Tate and Madison meet for the first time, sparks fly, but also the insults. Madison is not too nice to Tate and it’s quite hilarious. Tate isn’t used to others treating him other than a movie star, so when Madison spews out insults and pours her drink on his head, he knows there is something different about this girl. Their back and forth is quite hilarious, and I immediately began rooting for these two to be together.

Tate and Madison have a lot of self discovery to go through in this book, and it’s amazing how much both characters changed throughout this book. They both grew up, and both found themselves and at the end finally figured out what they wanted. There are many twists and turns and bumps in the road for these two, and I enjoyed every single moment of it. Tate and Madison have a unique relationship, and I really enjoyed getting to see them open up to one another, and slowly (without them realizing it at times) fall in love with each other.

Things end up how you would expect them to in this story, so I wasn’t shocked when the big explosion of their relationship happened, but I was surprised with the unexpected twist that caused everything to fall apart for these two. I was NOT expecting that to happen, and once I heard the reasoning behind it, it made me love that character even more!

The supporting characters of this book are also equally amazing. Janie, Tate’s sister, Courtney, Madison’s bff, the yoga girls, etc. They all provided something important in this story, and weren’t just there to be there. At times I wasn’t sure if Courtney was really a friend to Madison, or if they were just “work friends”, but she proved her friendship at the end of this book, and truly ended up being a great friend to Madison.

This book was beautifully written, and the story had me engaged from the very beginning. Tate and Madison’s story is amazing and one crazy ride. I couldn’t help but fall in love with them and their love story. I do wish we would have received more of an ending for Tate and Madison, I felt as if everything lead up to this HEA for them, and was left a little disappointed with what we received for their happily ever after.

Fame is definitely worth one-clicking as it’s a story that needs to be read. I look forward to other books in this series (each a stand alone), as Lauren K. McKellar has quickly become one of the authors I have to one-click. Each book brings different characters and another amazing story.

This is my first Lauren McKellar book and it definitely won’t be my last. Not knowing what to expect I went into this book blind and came out feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. With a big smile, a happy heart and a sense of completion, FAME was the perfect combination of smart, sexy and sassy. Taking me on a journey of self-discovery and self worth, Lauren McKellar evokes empathy and compassion from the reader. Ensuring that the characters fulfill their need to infuse familiarity and understanding, FAME will have you hooked till the very end.

When Madison Winters wakes up on her 23rd Birthday, her list of accomplishments is at an all time high and with the intention to add more accolades to her ever-expanding repertoire, Madison Winters life seems perfect. Until it's not.

Madison doesn’t get the promotion she was expecting and her fiancé… well his definition of commitment and forever is surprisingly unreliable. Broken and lost, Lauren McKellar brings to life a vulnerable young woman trying to figure out what happens next. Sent to a yoga retreat Madison is determined to some soul searching. Battling with the new her and the old her, she struggles to find out what it is she really wants out of life… And then comes along Tate Masters – Hollywood heartthrob. With his own goals and his own agenda, Tate Masters is determined to be Hollywood’s IT boy. Keep his image clean and his girlfriend happy.

As their paths cross Madison and Tate are fighting their attraction from the get go and with a laundry list of reasons as to why they should stay away from each other, their chemistry and passion over powers any semblance of rational thinking. Through laughs, tears and a whole lot of lovin’, readers will fall in love with and want nothing more than to see Madison and Tate together.

Lauren McKellar magically weaves her wand, ensuring that FAME is light hearted and refreshing, whilst still conveying the serious undertone of loss, heartache and forgiveness. Through Madison, McKellar has created an amazing character. Her attention to detail means that the evolution of Madison is strong, deep and relatable. Touching upon feelings and issues that are common and consuming – Madison becomes a positive example and a pillar of strength throughout the book.

With the beloved Tate Masters using his point of view to show off his honest and devoted heart. Readers will be swooning over his unwavering and unconditional dedication to those who are important to him. Paired with sweet one-liners and a gorgeous smile, McKellar has hit gold with Tate Masters.

FAME is funny, heartwarming and memorable. Effortlessly giving the story line a complexity that is often overlooked. McKellar pulls off the layers that hide the simple boy and the simple girl; transitioning this two-dimensional love story to a beautiful kaleidoscope of real life.

I've said before that Lauren McKellar is one of my very few one-click contemporary authors. She usually writes some young adult and some new adult, and I knew going into Fame that it wasn't a tragedy like most of her other stories. What I didn't realise was that this is adult contemporary. Adult-y adult. Now with more adult.

The chemistry -- and, let's be honest, the raw lust -- between Madison and Tate sizzles off the page from the first time they meet. And the sex scenes (is that a spoiler?) are scorching. *fans self*

At first I wasn't sure about Tate. He comes across as a cheat at the start of the book, and no amount of megawatt smiles and ripped muscles made up for that in my mind. Still, it's not too long before we discover more about Tate -- his reasons for doing the things he does -- and soon I was swooning and wishing for a Tate in my life too.

It turns out McKellar does sex scenes as well as she does romance. The latter is her bread and butter. It's not usually my favourite genre, but the relationship here, as embryonic as it is, is well executed. Tate and Madison discover in each other someone who will let them be real, not pushing them to do anything they don't want to or judging them.

The other thing that's worth mentioning is that the book is just downright funny. Madison attracts the worst kinds of random luck, but at the same time her approach to handling things is kind of hilarious. While she naturally grieves for her failed relationship with Mike and the consequent struggle with who she is, she's generally quite resilient and doesn't take BS from anyone. Her disdain for the trappings of "wellness" (a word I rather dislike myself ... mostly because it's just ugly, tbh) had me giggling on more than one occasion. Her banter with not just Tate but her bestie Courtney was hilarious. And I can't talk about the humour without mentioning Madison's parents. They only appear in a handful of scenes, but her father -- oh my god, what a scream!

The other touch I liked was the shout-out to How to Save a Life with the cameo of Jase, the tattooed bartender from that book. I wanted to give him a hug, like a long-lost friend.

If you're looking for a sexy, feel-good story, then I can't recommend Fame highly enough.

Madison, the main character, I found almost whiny. I know it sucks when life throws us curve balls and things don't happen the way we expect. I guess I just didn't like how she dealt with it. I mean, she wasn't all that happy to begin with. She was content and felt safe but not happy. There is a difference.
Tate, is and isn't your typical movie star. He has secrets, a craptastic past and is trying to make things better for his pregnant sister. I liked him. I was proud of him for wanting to give his future nephew a good life. I didn't really agree with his methods but I understood why he was doing things the way he was.
All in all, the story was good. I just couldn't relate to these characters for some reason. I usually love Lauren K. McKellar's work, this one just didn't do it for me.
I recommend giving Fame, a try. Just because I didn't love it, doesn't mean you won't. It can also be read as a standalone. No cliffhangers.

Fame keeps Tate locked in a web of lies with his past knocking at the door. Fame is what Madison is after in her perfectly contrived world. Behind the scenes is a whole nother thing. This book was disturbing in so many ways and funny and enjoyable in others. Some of the things that happened in the book just made me cringe but then real life can cause the same reaction.

This was my first read by this author and I like her style even if this book wasn't a slam dunk for me.

Another great story from Lauren McKellar. After getting her heart broken for more than one reason, Madison is sent to Bali on a yoga retreat for her new job. Meanwhile movie star Tate is also on the same island to shoot a film.........they meet in a local bar and so their story begins. At one point I wanted to hit Madison as I thought she was going to do something silly but thankfully she changed her mind! Tate is a loveable character who is trying to do right by everyone but ends up making things worse at times!
On the whole this is a gentle tale, with some hot sex and I would definitely recommend it.

What a great read!
Madison is sassy, successful and all her dreams are about to come true.
But on her birthday her life gets turned upside down when the promotion she was counting on goes to her best friend, she gets home early to find her fiancé with another girl and her life shatters!
She goes on a wellness retreat to find herself once again after realising she doesn’t know who she is anymore.
It’s one night in a bar she meets famous actor Tate Masters. He is on the island to shoot a new movie and has just been alleged with a big cheating scandal.
When they do meet you can feel their chemistry sizzling off the pages.
They can’t deny each other and when feelings get involved, she finds out the truth.
It was a beautiful story that made you laugh and feel and I loved it!

Goes down as another off my 2016 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – a book that takes place in the summer and what better place than a tropical yoga retreat resort on Bali.

To say that Madison has a bit of a crappy birthday would be an understatement. First she doesn’t get the promotion she was all but thinking was hers. Then while feeling sorry for herself she decides to go home early so her fiancé could give her some comfort; she ends up finding him with another woman on her knees giving him a different kind of relief. That morning she had it all, career on the up and her wedding in a few weeks, now she has nothing. Her now ex Mike is beyond a selfish prick, even after being caught literally with his pants down he still thinks they can go through with their wedding in two weeks time – I mean really!!!! When Madison informs him that they can’t just postpone he suggests they cancel (leaving it all to her mind you) so he can go ‘find himself’. Definition of that being so he can continue banging someone younger until he gets it out of his system before asking her to come back to him. I wanted to punch him so much! So when her best friend Courtney (said best friend that got the job at Lola she thought was hers mind you, but anyway) suggests she take her place on the Live Well assignment at a yoga retreat she – reluctantly – agrees. At first only thinking it will be torturous on an island doing yoga all the time to then finding out it was the best trip she could have ever taken. A drunken first night there is all it takes to change the course she was one for the better.

Tate is your everyday swoon worthy bit of man candy and he knows it. He has worked hard at keeping a “clean” image of himself while doing presswork. Especially with the backers of his new film being Christians, he needs to make sure the movie goes ahead and he gets paid. He and his sister had a hard time growing up without money so he wants to protect her and be able to provide for her and her baby on the way. He will stop at nothing to give them everything they could ever need. He is a bit hot headed, can say the wrong things and jump to conclusions at times though (which might end up costing him more than he thought). So when at an interview the host – someone he had slept with but had forgotten about until she brought it up – shows a sex tape of him it doesn’t bode well. Especially when the time stamp on it shows only a few months back, meaning he would have had to cheat on his “girlfriend” Mikaela. He is shocked about the tape but more so when he finds out the woman in question has a child and says that its his (it seems someone from his past is out to cause trouble). With this hanging over him like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off his “clean” image is almost in tatters. Something his sister and publicist Janie is not happy with. She just hopes he can keep his head down while shooting the rest of the movie in Bali while she tries to clear things up. Turns out its much more fun to be a bit reckless with a beauty at the bar he just can’t make himself stay away from. She’s the first person he wants to be honest with and that alone is scary for him.

Madison starts a bit of a journey being at this retreat. First being a bit of a drunken, heartbroken mess, who ends up fooling around with none other than a movie star on her first night there. To then finding her true self along the way. Yoga doesn’t cure her problems but the more she does it the more she starts to find a balance within herself. A holiday romance wasn’t meant to be on the cards especially with a ‘taken’ movie star but nothing is ever quite as it seems. She can’t get enough of Tate but knows he is holding back, with good reason to. Loved the chemistry between them. How it built every time they were together. Like magnets being pulled towards each other waiting for something explosive to happen. She was always meant to write the story, not be part of it but now she’s in she doesn’t want to ever let go.

A volcano dust cloud prevents them from leaving early so just gives them more time to really explore what is happening between them. Holiday romance, rebound fun or something more, either way outside forces are making them keep it secret. Tangled messed up sheets are one thing but it’s another when it’s your heart. When Madison gets a call from back home telling her Mike has been in an accident she has to wonder where her heart is truly leading her. They all have to decide what they really want and how to make it happen.

Loved all the characters on the island, wasn’t too overloaded. The people at the retreat, though only mentioned a few times, were an interesting mix and gave a bit of comedy relief away from any tension. Think Janie was my favourite secondary character though with how she acts, bold bossy lady who takes no prisoners. Would be interesting to see what her life turns out like later down the line.

I want to begin this review by saying I have never read anything by author Lauren McKellar, but she is quickly becoming one of my favourites!

Madison Winters thinks she has life figured out. She works for a fashion and celebrity magazine, Lola, in Australia. She has a fiancé and is up for a major promotion. Her best friend Courtney is right by her side, living and loving life. Life is good until the bottom falls out, unfortunately on her 23rd birthday.

Now the deputy editor of Live Well, Madison is headed to a Yoga Retreat on an island off Bali. Madison and her best friend Courtney feel like this is the perfect way to sort out life and for Madison to find herself again. However, this trip does not start with Madison finding her inner peace.

Facebook stalking your ex-fiancé, chocolate, crying and alcohol seem to be every girls’ go to when they have a break up and it starts the same way in Bali. Madison cannot seem to grasp yoga, the people are not very friendly, and the food sucks. Deciding to drown herself in misery, she ends up meeting movie star Tate Masters at a local bar. Little does she know what life is going to throw her way after a chance meeting.

Tate Masters is gorgeous up and coming movie star. During an interview, video is exposed of Tate cheating on his girlfriend. He also learns that there are claims that he has a secret love child with Shade McPherson. Tate and his sister Janie, who is also his pregnant publicist, now have to deal with the fall out of all these lies.

Now having to repair his cheating boyfriend status, Tate flies to Bali to shoot a movie with his girlfriend, Mikaela Howards. The movie Tropical Love with make him Hollywood elite and offer a big pay day. He needs to keep his head on straight and keep out of trouble for the rest of filming. Tate needs this movie to help provide for his sister and help her raise the baby. Mikaela and Tate both have their own secret reasons for making the relationship between the two of them work.
Madison is asked by Janie to write a story on the relationship of Tate and Mikaela. She can write the story for her own benefit and get back her old job at Lola along with her old life. Or, she can write the story to help prove that Tate and Mikaela are very much in a relationship and very much in love. But how can she when she is falling for Tate? Can she write on story on love when she doesn’t believe it?

Madison needs to find herself. Tate needs to stay out of trouble. Simple as that, right? A story about the real status of Tate and Mickaela is leaked and a whirlwind of trouble comes along with it. Just when Madison thought she’d hit rock bottom, the bottom falls out yet again.
Madison and Tate. Wow! From the first time these two met, you could feel their spark through the pages of the book. I found myself crying at the breakup, laughing at the Facebook stalking (because we’ve all done it, right?) and I’m now thinking about taking yoga! Although I can’t see where beach sex would be comfortable, the sex scenes were hot and not to graphic, not to unrealistic. There were quite a few twists and turns which I did not see coming! I can’t say anything without giving too much away but they were very well played out!

There were a lot of characters in this book which at some times got confusing but I’m hoping to find out more about them as the series continues.

FAME was a life reminder for me. I think at numerous times during your life, just when you think you have it figured out, the bottom falls out and you are left starting all over again. Maybe it’s a job, the love of your life, family, etc., but life always happens when you feel invincible.
This story honestly brought me back to the times when I just needed to find myself again and fight for me, just as Madison learns to do. My favourite line in the book, “I believe in myself now, and I’m not so focused on trying to make sure everyone else is happy. I believe I’m worth fighting for” really stuck with me. It’s where I am at now in my life.

Thank you Lauren for bringing Madison and Tate into my life. I truly hope there is more to their story! I give Fame (Not Like the Movies, #1) 4.5 stars

This book started off strong. I liked learning about both characters in the first third of the novel. I enjoyed the writing style as well. However I felt that the romance between the two characters happened too quickly for my taste. I felt like they went from strangers to love in no time at all.

4 Heart Warming Stars !!!

Fame by Lauren K McKellar is an amazing love story with a lot of drama and heart melting moments. Its captivating and enchanting for the readers. What I like about the book was, it wasn't just centred on Madison and Tate specifically and their individual relationships with other people were nicely put. I also loved the Janie’s character and her sassy attitude.

Her perfect life is shattered and she feels hopelessly lost. After her friend Courtney insists her to take a break and sort her life, she decides to take her up on the yoga retreat being offered to her in Bali. After all she had nothing left to lose.

Tate has a secret he is guarding and Madison is trying to find herself. Under the disguise, their relationship blooms and they both let their guards down.

But nothing is ever perfect !!! The secret Tate’s guarding, is now in the public eye and his career is threatened and his sister’s future at stake ! Tate lashes out at Madison feeling betrayed and refuses to listen. Disheartened Madison goes back to Australia after hearing about a personal tragedy !!!!!

*****Kim's Review!*****

I received an ARC for my honest review.

Madison Winters has it all- the designer clothes, the Fiance who in two short weeks will become her husband, and her new promotion is in the bag. Or that's what she thought until everything flips upside down on her 23rd birthday, and nothing goes as planned. Now her life is in tatters and she has the opportunity to go on a yoga retreat in Bali, for work. Madison isn't the type of woman to find her zen or trade in her designer clothes and shoes for flip flops and yoga pants! Tate Masters is also on the same island he's filming his first Hollywood movie. Not everything is as it seems with Tate and when he meets Madison he is automatically attracted. One problem he has a girlfriend and Madison will not tolerate cheaters! But like I said nothing is as it seems!

This book had me giggling the entire way through. The authors use of wit is brilliant. I loved Madison straight away especially after her quite pompous up herself ways are downtrodden and we get to see the true woman behind it all! Tate took a while for me to warm up to but I think seeing him with his sister Janie really helped uncover his true character. Janie is brilliant the way she knows exactly what her brother is up to constantly and bosses him about like a pro!

After reading some quite heavy reads as of late this was just the thing I needed, it's light hearted romantic with a great comedy factor will brighten anyone's day! I'd love to read more from this author. Five stars!

*****Nic's Review!*****

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Madison Winter's thought she had it all. The perfect job, clothes and fiance. On her 23rd Birthday it all went to down hill from there. Now she has a new Job, no fiance, is completely heart broken and doesn't know who she is anymore. With a chance to take a trip to Bali for a the company. She is going to learn about the Yoga retreat there.

Tate Master's is the new up and coming Hollywood star. Do to some not so good publicity his job is on the line. He is trying to take care of his pregnant sister Janie. He is dating the beautiful Victoria Secret's model. They are on the island in Bali to do their film. That is when Tate meets Madison.

This was a really good story. I could totally relate with Madison and I felt her emotions through the whole book. I could even Relate with Tate. This was an heartfelt story and very enlightening. It was funny and it was sad. I really enjoyed Madison's parents. They were such a hoot! I would totally recommend this book to friends and family. I give this 5 stars.

I am a big fan of Lauren K McKellar’s writing, and this book didn’t disappoint.

Fame is full of wonderful characters, an engaging plotline, and plenty of humorous one liners.

In the beginning, we meet Madison, a 23 year old Australian girl working in the fashion magazine industry who has the worst things happen to her on her birthday. Her employer then sends her to a yoga retreat on an island off Bali to write a review and there she meets the swoon worthy Tate, an American up and coming movie star who is shooting a new film there. From here on, sparks fly, there is chemistry, and there is lots of sexy fun, but as the story moves along, both Madison and Tate transform as they figure out what it is exactly that they each want in life. Throw in some great supporting characters, some naughty sexual encounters, secrets kept, a bit of blackmail, the paparazzi, and a taste of Outback Australia, and you have a very enjoyable and fascinating story.

The leading female protagonist is Madison, and I really liked her. She was real and believable, and it was nice to see her develop as a stronger woman throughout the story and discover things about herself. The leading male character is Tate, and he was likeable too. I enjoyed the banter between him and his older sister who was also his PR person. The minor characters were very entertaining – from Madison’s best friend, to Tate’s sister, to the girls Madison befriends at the yoga retreat. And Madison’s parents made for some comical scenes, especially towards the end.

As much as I loved the characters and enjoyed the story in Fame, I just felt something was missing which prevented me from actually investing in the main characters. I also thought that Tate’s reasons for earning the big bucks as a movie star and making the film wasn’t believable. And I also noticed a number of proof reading errors throughout the book.

Overall, Fame is very well written and easy to read. Some elements were predictable, but there were some surprising turns in the storyline. This is Ms McKellar’s first book in the “new adult” genre and so it does contain more graphic scenes and strong coarse language compared to her other “young adult” works. This is a first in a series but each book can be read as a standalone, just like the author’s other series. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to other fans of Lauren K McKellar and to anyone who enjoys a light sexy contemporary romance.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and it won't be my last. Madison Winters thought she had her life perfect, but on her birthday, it's blown to hell in a hand basket. The promotion she thought she had went to her best friend, and when she goes home early, she finds the man she's about to marry cheating on her in their home. She's lost everything, including her favorite shoes celebrating her birthday alone. Now she's stuck working on a magazine she has no desire to work on, so when she's sent on a work assignment to write about a yoga retreat, she goes hoping she can at least find vodka. Tate Masters has it all, a career on the rise, and an ex-Victoria Secret model for a girlfriend. When a secret from his past is exposed all over the media, he's scrambling to keep his 'good boy' image intact. Now with the media is on the hunt stalking him, he feels he can't breathe so he gets drunk. In the morning, he finds himself waking up to a beautiful Australian brunette, and he finds that she's everything he's ever been looking for. Madison is horrified when she finds out that Tate is in a relationship so she tells him off. The problem is that the extremely strong connection makes it near impossible for them to stay away from one another. When all the secrets are exposed, who will be left standing?

I enjoyed this story a bunch. The character development is great, with awesome secondaries. A funny, sweet, and well written story line flows smoothly. Lauren K. McKellar does a great job at starting out the story with a bang, and the hits kept coming keeping my heart racing cover to cover. Well written humor had me laughing hard, and the added in twists kept me on my toes. Tangible chemistry led to SMOKIN' sexy scene goodness that I couldn't get enough of. The one issue that kept it from being a 5 Star read, is I felt like the ending was too rushed after everything they had gone through to that point. Overall, a sweet and sexy read that I recommend.

Note: This ARC was provided by Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

This was a lighthearted and fun read, one that has two main characters that are at a crossroads in their respective careers and personal lives. The last thing Tate and Madison need is a new headache to add to the ones they're currently dealing with, but fate is a fickle thing and when it decides to mess with you, you learn to roll with the punches. I wasn't a huge fan of Madison's for the first few chapters of the book, especially with all her pining for her ex-fiancé--I mean, come on! The guy cheated and actually dumped her in the end--and whining about her lot in life. However, she did grow on me after a while, although Tate remains my favorite character in the book, with his pregnant sister Janie a close second. He may appear shallow, but once you learn what he's been doing and the secrets he's been keeping, you see how fab he is.

With this being the first in a series, I'm hoping the more memorable characters will be getting their own stories told as the series continues, especially Janie. This was my first Lauren K. McKellar read and I found myself enjoying her storytelling and am looking forward to seeing where she plans on taking the rest of the series and what other stories she's waiting to tell all of us. If you're looking for a light read, one that isn't necessarily laugh-out-loud silly but enough to put a smile on your face while and after reading, you may want to check out this Not Like the Movies series starter. Aside from the future additions to the series, I hope to look into the author's past works and see if anything else that she's written before will catch my fancy. Fame was a good beginning to a promising series and I'm giving it four out of five stars. ♥

Madison is getting ready to turn 23 and she's got it all! She has an amazing fiance and a great job that's just about to get better with a promotion!! Her best friend Courtney is so excited that Madison is getting a promotion! She attends the meeting that will announce her promotion and as Jack is introducing the new deputy editor of Lola magazine, her and Courtney are exchanging excited looks! Well, her world just crumbled because things didn't go as she hoped. Instead she's the deputy editor of Live Well magazine! Then when she goes home, there's her fiance, that she's marrying in two weeks receiving oral sex from some blonde!! Could this day get any worse!?

As part of her assignment for Live Well, she goes to Bali to a resort that doesn't serve alcohol, or any good foods and just has to do Yoga!? When she finally finds a place that has alcohol, things turn a little (or a lot) hazy for her the next morning! This is not going well at all for her!!

Tate is an actor and is in Bali to do a shoot. He's there with his sister, who is also the one that keeps him in line, Janie. He's suppose to be staying out of trouble. He gets drunk one night and meets a girl that peaks his interest. Both of them are drunk (her more than him) and he wakes up on the beach the next morning tangled around her. To top it off, the only friend Madison makes in Yoga class is Janie, Tate's sister! Yep, poor Madison's life gets worse and worse! Will it get any better?

LOVED this story! Those two are hilarious! I enjoyed everything about this book! The characters were very likable! Fame is a great beginning to a new series!!

At 23, Madison Winters seems to have it all. She's on the fast track to her dream job, editor of Lola, a fashion magazine. She's about to be married to the love of her life, yeah her life is pretty awesome. But her 23rd birthday turns out to be anything but happy. Her dream job is given to her best friend and she ends up becoming the editor for the "hippy" magazine. When she gets home, she catches her fiancé with another woman, and her day goes from bad to worse. When her best friend convinces her to go on a yoga retreat in Bali for the magazine, she reluctantly agrees.
Tate Masters is Hollywood's newest heart throb. He's dating his costar for his upcoming movie that has begun shooting in Bali, but things aren't as they seem. One night of drinking at the small island's only bar throws these two together and the attraction is immediate. But Tate is keeping some serious secrets, secrets that could put Madison back on track for her dream job.

I'll be honest, I almost gave up on this book at the beginning. I hated how self centered and superficial Madison was and seriously.... Whining about an all expenses paid trip to Bali?!? Really girlfriend?!? However after awhile, the story drew me in. I loved Tate and his sister. I loved how they took care of each other and their relationship. There were even a few moments where I laughed out loud. I really enjoyed this book and it says it's a book one. I can't wait to read more in this series.
