Tatiana has honed her genetic gifts to perfection. She can withstand the subzero temperatures of the Northern Waste, read somebody’s mind with the briefest touch, and slice through bone with her bare hands. Which makes her one badass chick, all right. Nothing gets to her. Until she meets Tristan. Villain or ally, she can’t be sure. But one thing she does know: he has gifts too-including the ability to ramp up her heart rate to dangerous levels. But before they can start some chemistry of their own, they have to survive being trapped in an underground lab, hunted by a madman, and exposed to a plague that could destroy mankind.

I swing between 4 and 5 for this book but figure, what the hell, I'll give it a five in gratitude for the intense and enjoyable reading experience even though I have some issues.

"Hidden" is the sequel to "Driven". Unfortunately, it's the only sequel and that ain't right. There's at least one more story to be told and I want it!

In "Driven" we were introduced to Wizard. A man who has learned basic human interactions, but not by upbringing. He's a genetically engineered wonder ... in oh so many ways ... and watching him come to life was exquisite. The heroine of "Hidden" is his younger sister, Tatiana. Also stunted in her emotional growth and with a dark background, she's got everything that made Wizard interesting but still has her own personality. She's no retread.

Tristan is the hero of the story and he's got his own dark tale to tell. He and Tatiana meet up in an effort to save the world, both harboring terrible secrets, wanting to trust each other, but knowing they can't trust anyone. Great bones.

The main problem I had with this one and the reason I almost gave it four instead of five stars is that both leads had their secrets but the reader is mostly aware of them. Maybe not the detail, but the essence and that makes things bog down a bit when it starts to feel past time for them to share with each other. Even though it's logical when you think about it that they aren't sharing, it feels contrived after a certain point because the reader's been in the know for so long.

I also missed seeing Wizard, Raina and Yuriko in this book along with the rest of the settlers. It became distracting as I perked up at every opportunity for them to show up. They do eventually, but it's not nearly enough of a taste of those wonderful characters.

Still, the action is harrowing and the romance is satisfying. Tristan and Tatiana are so perfect together it's lovely to see things unfold.

The world-building is excellent. Fascinating, challenging and thought-provoking. I really am saddened that she stopped in 2008 after this one. Ironically, she says Joss Whedon's "Firefly" inspired this world and I feel like I'm having the same experience as fans had with that show: Why did it end?!!! What happened?!!! Just one more! Pleeeeeeasssse! Don't leave it this waaaaayyyyyy!!!

Okay, clearly I'm a huge fan of this book and its predecessor. Even though you'll be left wanting more, it's totally worth it, in my opinion.

Wake from a darkened dream and see the beauty that surrounds you. - Tristan

The events of Hidden take place about 6 months after the end of Driven. With novella Frozen acting as a bridge between the two. I think that the Northern Wast books could be read stand alone but I wouldn't recommend it. Frozen introduces the plague that plays a role in the plot of Hidden. The books are a bit fast and loose with time frames. But there are years in Hidden, they are significant. The prologue is clever. It is a rewrite of a scene from Driven during Bane's training. Tatiana only had an 11% chance of surviving that session but she did, something Wizard and Yuriko never knew. For someone who hadn't read the 1st book, it would be a decent lay of the land but it's more for readers. Importantly it introduces two key concepts Tatiana thinks Yuriko is dead and Dr Gavin Ward the books big bad (who makes Bane look like a saint).

For those who have read Driven Tatiana is Yuriko and Wizards younger sister. Raised like them by a computer she has little understanding of emotion. But unlike them she didn't initially develop superhuman healing abilities, she developed a form of telepathy. This telepathy allows her to present herself as more human than Wizard, though she has had to grow up hard and fast. Something I want to say about Ana that maybe disliked of projecting. Ana might be a Demisexual, an inexperienced one with little awareness of what the term but demi none the less. Yes she is sexually inexperienced before Tristan but the description was intriguing (as I said projecting).

Tristan is fascinating, Tatiana refers to him as a strange man multiple times. He is a complex mix of tinkerer, philosopher, scientist and fighter. Like 90% of romance novel leading men, he's stunning, indigo eyes? Be still my heart. He's very much not what he appears. His linguistic patterns are clever, they are contemporary (00's) American. Not the futuristic of the rest of the characters given his background that is an important detail. Tristan is a readable hero to be honest.

Like Driven this is a character more than a plot-driven book. It is more about Tatiana and Tristan and their pasts, futures and baggage than it is about the plague. The plague which will eventually destroy all life in the Northern Waste was created using samples of Tatiana's blood and Tristan is the only man who might be able to find a cure. Reavers and cannibalism are involved. The larger focus is healing scars and revealing secrets wrapped up in some pretty quotable writing and generally good writing.

This is a 4.5-star book the ending lets it down. The ending feels rushed, something that has been worked towards for two books is done with little more than a couple of paragraphs, there are some unanswered questions and there is no real closure on the plague that is one of the core plot points. But overall it is gorgeous, the main couple are wonderful and their development is engaging. (well this review is longer than anticipated, sorry bout that)

Ana, love, you exist freely in the fullness of your entire being. There are no flaws, only different ways of self. A person without defect isn’t human. - Tristan

My overwhelming reaction to Tristan was how old are you? What how you done?

Ok, so this is the second book I've read by this author, and, as usual, the second took a HUGE leap forward in everything. I really really enjoyed this book! It's VERY much like Nalini Singh's Psy series, except set in Mad Max future-world.

Yes, it has strong romance elements (where ppl are instantly attracted to each other and horny for each other until they get it on despite the life-threatening danger they face) but whatever, this had a really interesting plot and I really enjoyed the two characters together. The believability was way better than the first and I enjoyed the adventure/futuristic plot. Awesome improvement from the last and I will be checking out more for sure!!!

Erste Sätze:
Blut hatte einen ganz eigenen Geruch. Metallisch, scharf und leicht süßlich.

Meine Meinung:

This is book #2 with the first one being Driven. I don't know why it doesn't list this as a series but it is. And it's a really good series. There are 3 genetically altered children that survive with the help of a computer. They are "rescued" but really they're given over for torture. The first book is mostly about Wizard with a little about Yuriko.

The second book is about Tatiana, who is supposedly the weak sister. Well she was then, but isn't anymore. With the death of Bane she's surviving by obtaining stolen items while keeping an eye out for Ward, who tortured her with medical experiments with Bane's okay. She meets Tristan and they work together to help some friends and stop Ward.

The biggest criticism I have are the covers - the first one has the look of a graphic novel but the book itself isn't like that. The second book, the woman looks fine but the man looks nothing like Tristan. Tatiana is 5'6", he's supposed to be over 6" with black hair to his shoulders. The guy on the front maybe is 5'10" or even 5'9" and his hair is short. Why don't the publishers pay attention to this stuff?!

My official review of books one and two, combined:

These books are from my personal shelf and boy am I pleased with my selections!

Eve Kenin a.k.a. Eve Silver is a highly talented writer. I've read her paranormal series and now this sci-fi series and I am all around impressed. The only downer, there is no other book in the series and there really needs to be one because I want it =). With that said, each book is it's own story and each ends cleanly with no loose ends. Of course, there's room for more to be written but if there is never another book I feel like the story is complete. Though I am going to hope for another.

Driven and Hidden are both out of this world entertaining to read. The characters Eve has created are easy to attach to. Suffice to say, I want more of these characters that I love. Even the secondary characters have piqued my interest. Ugh, I'll just say it... I want to read Yuriko's story.

All in all, adventure and rich storyline makes Driven and Hidden must reads.

Sometimes you come across a book that's just impossible to accurately describe. Like Eve Kenin's HIDDEN: "It's a book set in a post-apocalyptic future, in Siberia…about a woman who was raised in a lab…and there's a deadly plague that turns people into cannibalistic zombies…and ice pirates…and oh yeah, a rogue scientist who studies philosophy while he tries to save the world." Screams romance, no? Think again, because this is not only a fabulous read, it's taut, sexy adventure at its finest.
HIDDEN zooms back to the Northern Wasteland introduced in DRIVEN, the bleak frozen place Earth has become after a series of (probably nuclear) wars. It's unforgiving and nearly lawless, with pirates and evil masterminds and rebels circling each other in a brutal struggle. Human life has both advanced and regressed, with impressive medical advances balanced against the utter social decay that has pushed large parts of humanity to the edge of survival. Just like the heroine and hero.

Tatiana has been a medical experiment most of her life, raised by computers and subjected to all sorts of procedures that leave her with some seriously enhanced physical abilities. Of course, it's also left her with little experience of how humans behave and interact. When she finally escapes from the lab, she sets off on a quest to destroy the people who almost destroyed her, Gavin Ward and a scientist called Tolliver. Gavin Ward, she knows where to find; he's trying to find—and dissect—her just as hard as she's trying to avoid him. But Tolliver is a mystery, and yet the key to her desperate attempt to stop a debilitating virus, manufactured from her own genetic material, from being unleashed by Ward on his enemies. And yeah, she plans to waste Ward in the process.

Tristan is a rebel, hiding out in the Wastes with a dangerous mission of his own—nothing less than saving the human race. Unlike Tatiana, he's deeply alive to emotion and empathy, and knows just how much Ward's plague threatens humanity, even beyond just bringing death and suffering to its victims. When Tristan's path crosses Tatiana's, it's intrigue at first sight for both of them. After spending her entire adolescence locked in a dungeon (oh my God! Can you imagine?!?),Tatiana feels the first pull of sexual attraction in her life, and watching her deal with it, trying to figure out how to be human and a woman, was quite moving. Inside Tatiana's highly logical, genetically enhanced body beats a very human heart after all. And while Tristan notes her ethereal eyes, silky hair, and tight figure, it's the almost superhuman way she dispatches two tough ice truckers twice her size that really snares his interest. Unusual girl, he thinks.

Honey, you have no idea.

Can I just say that's possibly what I loved most about Tristan? His first thought was not how he wanted to get her into bed, it was, "Damn, that girl's good in a fight." Tristan's no fool, and although Tatiana does appeal to his sex drive, the instant respect he has for her was fabulous. He feels responsible for the small band of rebels hiding out with him, and the fact that he doesn't have to worry about Tatiana—in fact, that he can even lean on her from time to time—puts their relationship ahead of many couples' (and not just romance novel ones). Also, although the story is weighted more toward action and adventure than most romances, the romance is pitch-perfect between these two warrior souls. When the only way out of a tight spot is a long climb up a laser-shielded elevator shaft, Tatiana is the one better equipped to do it. Tristan not only agrees to this, not only boosts her up so she can get started, he tells her the most important thing: come back to me. Nope, no sweet, tender "I love you," but a command that nonetheless expresses perfectly how he feels without beating anyone over the head about it.

Because these two are perfect for each other just as they are. There's no excess emotional outpouring on either side, just a realization that they each want the other at their back. For once the cover illustration is amazingly accurate. And the pacing is relentless, with no wasted scenes. This is a book that you open intending to read a few chapters, and then look up to realize you've read the whole thing almost without stopping to breathe. You can't help cheering for Tristan and Tatiana as they fight what's worst in humanity, to find—and save—what's best.

HIDDEN is romance for the adventurous. If you lusted after Han Solo, this book is for you. If you wanted to be out fighting the dragon instead of locked in the ivory tower, this book is for you. It's DRIVEN with an added philosophical touch, action and adventure with a jolt of red-hot romance. Solid gold A for this one.

Growing up in a lab in a small cell has left the heroine with no clue on how to deal with human interactions. Though she's miles more advanced in social situations than her brother she still has moments of awkwardness. And she does possess a bleeding heart so when she intervenes a vigilante murder, she's pissed to realize that somehow his blood and her blood have mixed and that creates some worry as those around her can't help but look at her with horror and sympathy.

The hero, the leader of the little group insists in his sexy, take charge no nonsense type of way that she must accompany him back to their hideout. Below ground in an abandon military bunker, the hero and his crew live in a prison of their own making. Infected with a virus that slowly and plainly decays their flesh and drives them crazy, they are living on borrowed time until the hero can come up with a cure. Infected himself but immune to the disease, the hero lives with constant torment that it was he who made this illness and he is to blame for everything though he was tricked into making it by the enemy.

The heroine has been searching for the scientist responsible for taking her engineered blood and turning it into a plague but she's horrified to discover that the man she desires above all others in also her enemy.

I did like this story but not nearly as much as I loved the first in the series. To me a lot of the same plot and action was repeated but will less spectacular results. The heroine in particular was a sore spot for me. One minute she's sarcastic and witty and funny then the next she's playing the whole 'I don't understand emotions or social mannerisms'. She was doing pretty well on her own. I was on the fence regarding the hero as well. He was tortured and had the same robotic speak and manners of the hero in the previous book but he was also a hippy and spoke in elaborate sayings and profound quotes.

I thought the two of them were pretty muddled as characters, like they couldn't figure out what they wanted to be. I liked the whole dawn of the dead zombie-firefly reaver-thing. Though they don't actually get into the bunker until well into the story so the scenes with the savage crazy people felt rushed.

Overall it was a decent story, lots of action and a healthy dose of romance but it came nowhere near the sparkler of the first of the series.

If you enjoyed the first book, Driven, then you should not miss this sequel about a woman living on the edge. Gritty and fierce are only a few words to explain this book and the master storytelling of Eve Kenin
Hidden takes place in the year 209 in the frigid tundra called the Northern Waste. There is a woman named Tatiana whose job is to retrieve stolen items. Tatiana was once a victim of a crazed scientist who tried to make her and her siblings the perfect weapons to help take over the world. Tatiana has an amazing genetic makeup that allows her to read people's thoughts and regenerate from any illness or scar. Tatiana was able to escape living for the moment when she will take down Gavin Ward, the scientist who experimented on her. She is looking for Tolliver, the one man who can lead her to Ward since he is his right hand man.

There is another man who watches Tatiana. Tristan is also on a mission where he must try and stop a plague that could destroy mankind. When Tatiana is exposed to the deadly virus, he takes her under his protection. Tatiana can withstand anything, even death itself and welcomes Tristan and his special secret world he has created. But when she finds out that Tristan is closer to Ward than she thinks, she may be able to get her revenge. But at what price?

Tatiana and Tristan are running out of time as Ward is close to finding them down. When Tatiana finds out what Tristan has done, they will work together to find a cure as well as releasing her inner demons with his love.

We return again to the Northern Waste where desperation and death rules the land. Tatiana is a truly unique, yet amazing heroine that will make you ache because of her suffering. Tristan is also like Tatiana in many ways because of his past mistakes, but because he wants to right his wrongs, he is very much a hero in the reader's eyes.
Hidden is a wonderful, action paced science fiction tale about the survival of the fittest. Eve Kenin has a way of writing strong characters and a setting that grabs you and won't let go, right up till the last page.

For the best in thrills, on the edge of your seat action and a wonderful romance, you must pick up Hidden and loose yourself in the world of Eve Kenin.

A surprisingly fast read. I've been in the worst reading stump for a long time and no matter what book I came across it just didn't hold my interest. This one reads like an earlier work if that makes any sense, which is completely fine with me because it's something that isn't following the standard writing tropes that I see so often nowadays. It did have its cliches but that didn't lessen the appeal of the premise of the story and that's what got me to the last page without a struggle. A fast read as well, it wasn't as tedious so I suppose that's what helped. But I did feel that there was a lot of parts that was clearly leading to a climax (eh... pun not intended...seeing as it's an adult novel) but just fell completely flat. Where is that anger that led the heroine to do unspeakable things? What happened with your master plan when you found who you were looking for? What happened with the guy's agenda? It just vanished with a 'I just met you about 3 days ago, and I totally forgive you for anything you may have wanted to do to me or did to me, because I can't possibly imagine a world without you...'. First the heroine is set up as a badass tough as nails chic, and then this mysterious enigma with nice eyes (or 'pretty, pretty, blue eyes'), they encounter each other a few times, and then .... nah no spoilers from me. Needless to say it did have a somewhat insta-love element to it, and the hero justifies this by saying "Three days is enough. We do not learn by experience, but by our capacity for experience" (at least the author recognised that it was insta-love... kind of). I wish there was more buildup to the story (PLOT TWIST!!! I didn't realise this was the second book when I read it as it can work as a stand alone... I understood everything that happened which is a good point in the author's favour) mainly with the romance element, or perhaps with the scientist' atrocities. I expected a villainous hero and I wasn't entirely disappointed. En fin, I would definitely check out this author's other works and see if her prose stays the same, because it reminded me of one of my favourite author's prose Shana Abe

In 2037 there will be an outbreak (a plague, maybe) that kills a whole lot of people. Don't say I never warned you.

Excluding the prologue, this novel takes place in 2093. The world is now divided into four parts: the Northern Waste, the Equatorial Band, Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. Born in a laboratory in the icy Northern Waste, Tatiana is now free. But there's something seriously screwed with her genes, clearly evident when she slices off a bloke's hand with no weapons other than her own hands.

Once imprisoned, Tatiana seems headed into containment when she's exposed to a plague – one she may have helped create.

There's no doubt that the world-building and science are the novel's best features, and makes me wonder if Liskeard and Gladow Station actually exist. (Forgive my lack of knowledge; I live in the Southern Hemisphere, not the Northern Waste.) But despite all the nanotechnology, Tatiana wishes for the simple things, like again visiting the orange tree in the New Edmonton arboretum.

Unfortunately, I haven't read the previous Northern Waste novel Driven, which focuses on Raina Bowen, and Tatiana's brother, Wizard, so I don't know enough about Duncan Bane and Gavin Ward. I also read chunks of Hidden in front of the TV, thus my concentration wasn't as strong as it could've been. Still, I'd love to read more of this future, and am particularly keen on learning how life in the Equatorial Band, Africa and the Southern Hemisphere differs from that in the Northern Waste. Will we find out? Stay tuned.

Another terrific science fiction romance from Kenin, the sequel to Driven would probably also stand well on its own (but I swear you'll want to read the first one, too!). Tatiana was genetically altered at birth, one of three gifted siblings who are stronger, faster, and far more resilient than the rest of humanity. She lives on her own in the Northern Wastes, where most women are wives or whores, but Tatiana is equally able to withstand its freezing temperatures and its violent lawlessness. However, an act of mercy puts her in grave risk, and she finds herself trapped in an underground lab with the the mysterious, cobalt-eyed Tristan. Both have secret pasts, secret natures, and secret connections to the plague they must fight, a plague that threatens the entire world. The chemistry between Tatiana and Tristan is irresistible, and both characters are equally fascinating on their own. Tatiana is a kick-ass female with a twist; she was raised in part by a computer, and while she surpasses ordinary humans in other respects, she is socially awkward and has missed out on many of the usual life experiences growing up. Tristan, on the other hand, bears a tremendous sense of responsibility for the demise of his own family and the fate of those in his charge; he seems to be equal parts Zen master and benevolent dictator. Overall all, I enjoyed this tale of two talented people trapped in an impossible situation, the bond they form and the efforts to which they go to save the human race.

This wasn't as good as 'Driven' IMO. This story introduces us to the youngest sister of Wizard, Tatiana. The weakest genetically-engineered sibling, she was prisoner of Duncan Bane, the villain in the previous book, and tortured by Dr. Gavin Ward, a Dr. Mengele of sorts, who "used" her for medical experiments. Now free, her abilities have been growing as she seeks vengeance against Dr. Ward and his assistant, Tolliver. In her quest, she meets Tristan, an enigmatic and potentially dangerous man who isn't what he seems and there's a race against the clock to stop a deadly plague that threatens the Northern Waste.

I was all on board with this, having thoroughly enjoyed 'Driven', and everything was rolling along quite smoothly... until the cannibalistic Reavers. Supposedly plague victims used as test subjects, they seemed to sort of pop-up out of nowhere in the underground tunnels and it seemed a bit convoluted to me that they shared the underground with the rest of the "group" that lived there. Come to think of it, I had a hard time understanding the "group" and their function (other than as a convenient way for Tatiana, an emotional succubus, to further learn about human social norms). I also had a problem with the timeline in this one - the attachment Tatiana gains in a three-day period towards the "group" and Tristan (beyond lust) just didn't feel believable. Still overall, it is an entertaining story and I am disappointed that the series doesn't continue - I would have really liked to read about Yuriko and Trey...

HIDDEN was a pleasant followup to DRIVEN by Eve Kenin aka Eve Silver. Set in a futuristic society where frozen barren tundra is home, this is the story of Wizard's sister, Tatiana, and Tristan. Though it can be read alone it would help to read DRIVEN first so you could understand why The Northern Waste exists and why things happen.

Like Wizard, Tatiana is 'special'. Someone you don't want as your enemy. Like her brother, she has some gifts that make her unique. And someone to be feared if you get on the wrong side of her.

Tristan appears to be a good guy but he has some abilities, too, that make him an extremely dangerous fellow. This sci-fi adventure is lighter on the romance and stronger on the action. It was good but not quite as satisfactory as DRIVEN. Still I enjoyed reading about these characters and am only a little sad that Ms. Kenin didn't continue this series. I would have enjoyed reading more about the sub-zero wasteland.

awesome 2nd book (when's the third? there HAS to be a third!?!).

its easily a stand alone, but the first book does provide a little more detail in terms of the overall story line. and the first book is equally as good, so definitely recommend grabbing 'driven' first.

again, a bad-ass heroine, super flawed but with an innate sense of right that prevents her from being a total bitch (but that's only because we can hear her thoughts. almost everyone else in the book considers her a total bitch). yes, you can think mad max, but with a softer side (the whale scene - le sigh).

and again, a strong hero with his own major shit to deal with. they complement each other well, and i found their relationship believable (within the parameters of fiction, of course).

recommend if you like a touch of sci-fi, a touch of romance (using the term lightly) and some good sex.

I've read both of Silver's Northern Waste stories and loved them. They’re post-apocalyptic romance with giant trucks that are both RV and transport, ice pirates, and reavers (worse than ice pirates.) There are evil overlords who chase our hero/heroines, and love triumphing over them all. The romance is sweet, the sex is hot, and the action is fast-paced, nail-biting and well-written. I only wish there were more in the terrific series.

MY RATING GUIDE: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= Yes, it was Ok; 4= I LIKED THIS A LOT! 5= A favorite, it was great!! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

4 stars. I found this gripping and at times sobering.
The setting is Brutal. Choices determine life or death. Survival is at its most basic. HIDDEN is the satisfying conclusion to Eve Kenin/Eve Silver’s 3 book Dystopian series Northern Waste.

HIDDEN: A NORTHERN WASTE, bk3 ~
Tatiana is a survivor - geo-engineered before birth by scientists, raised by computers then “for the advancement of science” kept in an underground cell, studied, tortured and pushed to her emotional, physical and physiological limits again and again. Alone. Always alone in her misery except for the voices she hears in her head. The screams, cries and memories of those held and dying around her in the deep dark and cold. But then Tatiana escapes into the vast, empty, deadly and frozen Northern Waste land. A land where only the strong, fast, lethal and weaponized survive. Women are either victims or possessions. None live long. Tatiana only needs to live long enough to take her revenge.

Tristan has regrets and grief from the past. Many have died by his omissions or mistakes. A small community depends upon him now. He hopes he won’t let them down as well.

Comments ~
1) The setting in the Northern Waste land series is brutal. I live in a land which frozen 5-6 mos of the year. I can easily imagine the setting portrayed in Silver’s Northern Waste land series. There are wicked ways to die in the cold and the imagery in HIDDEN eerily brings them to mind. I found HIDDEN a quick reading suspense-filled, edge of your seat thriller in which the brutal environment is as present and biting as the creepy characters. HIDDEN kept my attention fixed, turning pages quickly from the beginning to the end. This was an especially frosty read as it’s presently a balmy 80F outside. 😉 Interestingly, for a Dystopian novel, I don’t find all aspects of it that far fetch. Which is also creepy.
2) I very much enjoyed HIDDEN but, IMO, it would best be enjoyed by readers who have already read DRIVEN, bk 1 and FROZEN, bk 2. Both Tristan and Tatiana’s backstory and history are mentioned in those books (although the main character is Wizard, Tatiana’s brother).
3) Readers who enjoy fast, action-driven plots with gripping suspense created by chilling settings and creepy antagonists in a dystopian setting, or readers who enjoy pure suspense-thriller novels may find DRIVEN, FROZEN, and HIDDEN as captivating as I did. The setting and plotting of the Northern Waste series reminds me of WHITEOUT by Ariana Anders (although it isn’t dystopian) - a gripping thriller novel set in Antarctica which I also enjoyed.
4) It appears the book covers have been redone. I prefer the original cover designs - photos of a fur hooded woman outside in the icy cold and a barely visible frozen building behind her rather than an “action hero figure couple” on the front.

READER CAUTIONS - Not recommended to YA readers or to those who prefer Clean fiction.
VIOLENCE - PG/PG-13+. This is a Dystopian thriller novel with predatory, sadistic antagonists. Killing, violence, mutilation is commonplace. There is mention of human trafficking and rape but it is eluded to rather than depicted. I felt the undertones were hopeful rather than depressing. (I avoid the later).
PROFANITY - Yes. Infrequently use of strong language.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. Brief, detailed consensual on-scene intimacy on 2 occasions between MCs.

Tatiana is traveling the frozen waste seeking revenge, seeking justice. when she runs into Tristian, who SAYS he wants the same things. Tristian’s a handsome, silver tongued rogue who says a lot of things. Things that make Tatiana feel what she doesn’t want to feel, things she has no room in her life to feel! Sexy, and fast paced, Hidden is a five star, emotional, action packed powerhouse of a listen! The plot is tense, well written, suspenseful and non-stop! There are plenty of twists and surprises and my interest was held throughout! The characters, villains and heroes alike, are all beautifully complex and beautifully defined! I truly enjoyed getting to know Tatiana and Tristian! The dialogue between them is brilliantly written! I loved their delightfully witty sarcastic banter, and when not bantering, their conversations were incredibly informative, serving to move the story forward while imparting necessary information, fully engaging this listener in the plot! Their characters, ALL the characters, came alive through stunning, emotionally on point, beautiful narration! I laughed out loud and I cried at times while listening to the incredible interactions of these characters! I won’t play spoiler and say WHERE I did WHAT, but there was one time I actually “fist pumped” and said “$&@“ straight” a wee bit louder than I should have in public! I’m sure eventually I’ll be allowed back into Costco, but the point is, I was so engrossed in this story, so pulled in by the magnificent performance of THIS fantastic story, that I forgot where I was and reacted to what was happening! It felt that real! THAT is MAGIC! That is FIVE star fantastic! That is Hidden and I Loved it!

A Great conclusion if it is an ending?

It was great reading the continued story of the Northern Waste. This on was about the baby sister Tatiana who is all grown up now. She meets a man on known as Tristan. She has been searching for a scientist by the name of Tolliver. Who may help her find and destroy Gavin Ward. The man who kept her imprisoned and experimented on her an created a deadly virus from her blood and tissues. This man Tristian says he knows about Tolliver. So she follows him to his camp underground. Unbeknownst to her all the people in his camp are infected with the virus. So begins the story. So much action in these stories. I really like the way the author uses language forms in this series. With all the bad guys it's hard to find the good ones in that frozen wasteland. I so much enjoyed reading all three of these books and you must start with book one to understand the characters who reappear in the stories. It was good seeing the family get together at the end of this one. Wizard. Yuriko. Raina. Tatiana

Loved it!

This is the third novel of the Northern Waste dystopia that Ms. Silver has written. I love her world building and the many fascinating characters she has peopled it with, even the REALLY bad guys. I would not want to live in this world, but thankfully Ms. Silver has created a character that I can live vicariously through and kick a** while I/we save the freaking world!!!
Besides incredible action scenes galore, there is a delicate love story that simmers, then smolders, and eventually matures into a love that is deep enough and strong enough to carry our hero/heroine through anything their harsh reality can throw at them. And then Ms. Silver adds icing to the cake by tying up lose ends from her previous two novels!!! Simply loved it.
Now I'm waiting on Yuriko's novel to feel really complete! Hurry Ms. Silver!

I do love the world that Eve Silver has built here. This was an excellent second novel in the series and kept me entertained. I didn't love Tristan quite as much as Wizard but I did like him. I loved Tatiana. She was a fabulous lead character.

I was a little disappointed that the epilogue wasn't longer. I feel like I'd been waiting for it since Book 1 and then it was over in a few paragraphs. I would have loved for that to be expanded.

I'm also disappointed that there doesn't seem to be a book 3. I hope there will be another book at some point. Yuriko's story would be interesting. I have noticed that this author has at least one other series that seems to have been abandoned. I hope this one won't suffer the same fate.

Post Apocalyptic

This is the last book in the Northern Waste series. This is a post - apocalyptic, dystopian world.
I liked Drive, the first book in this series and had planned to read Frozen and Hidden. I don't know why it took me so long to finish these books. I recommend the reading one after the other. Don't put it off. While I had no problem remembering most of Drive, it would have been so much better if I hadn't waited so long to read Frozen and Hidden.
I love Tatiana. She is wonderful. As much as I liked Raina and Wizard, Tatiana is even more spectacular. I was very leary of Tristan. I liked him towards the end.
This is a good story with terrific world building. I'm sorry that it's over.

Lots of elements that are familiar from other sci-fi properties (Reavers/Reapers from Firefly, pirate truckers from Mad Max, science subject hero who's older than he looks, ala Capt. America), but they all come together to make a good story. The romance is a slow burn for most of the book, but that gives Tatiana time to sort through her feelings, both emotional and physical. Tristan was an interesting mix of bossy military dude, charming gentlemen, and philosopher type.

It's been a while since I read the previous book, which Tatiana makes an appearance in, but you don't need to remember any details from that to enjoy this sequel.

Hidden returns to the Northern Waste, a harsh world in a frozen, barren country that makes survival for Bear Grillys look like a picnic in a state park.

Tatiana, Wizard's baby sister, is our newest badass on scene. She takes center page and commands the reader's attention. An interesting plot drives the story at a relentless pace. Steamy sexy time with a yowza alpha makes the nerve endings sing and the heart go pitter patter. Hidden engages the reader's senses while delivering well-written story.

Good

I really liked both the H/h but especially the heroine. The hero was a little too feminine in his thinking for me. He was supposed to be evolved due to his age and meditation but he just came across as not knowing himself.

But the story dragged some for me in the underground. I felt the Reaver part was just long and drawn out both below and above ground. The ending was abrupt too.

I loved the dual narration from Lillian Yves and Vincent Lee Grayson

Tatiana believes that her brother Wizard and sister Yuriko are dead . She spent her youth caged and experimented upon by Duncan Bane and his evil successor, Dr Gavin Ward. Tristan has a lot of secrets, including the reason why he can't let Tatiana leave their underground complex

We have science fiction with action romance, heat and war.
