A concise account of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. There's a newer book, Long, Obstinate and Bloody, that challenges some of the traditional interpretation that this book contains. But I think it's still valuable because it actually does a better job describing the drama of the battle.

Short but descriptive narrative of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Maps are easily understandable (although I would've liked a couple more, but that's more of a personal preference). Bio is light, and troop movement gets a little confusing without flipping back to the maps. But a great reference.

There's a second edition available that you might only be able to get via the National Park Service (didn't see it on Amazon).

For now it's the best description of the battle; word is that the author of Devil of a Whipping (the book on the Battle at Cowpens) is releasing one on Guilford Courthouse next year*, so that is something to look forward to.

*Update: the book is titled 'Long, Obstinate, and Bloody', and has a release date in February or March of 2009.

A 1992 NPS sponsored publication, this 90-page book is a good brief overview of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, suitable for readers who aren't satisfied with the few paragraphs the battle receives in most narrative histories but who don't want or need a more thorough study. Also suitable for completists who believe foolishly that they must own every book ever written about the battle.
