Message to the Blackman in America

Rate this book
Message To The Blackman In America By Elijah Muhammad According to countless mainstream news organs, Elijah Muhammad, by far, was the most powerful black man in America. Known more for the students he produced, like Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan and Muhammad Ali, this controversial man exposed the black man as well as the world to a teaching, till now, was only used behind closed doors of high degree Masons and Shriners. An easy and smart read. The book approaches the question of what and who is God. It compares the concept held by religions to nature and mathematics. It also explores the origin of the original man, mankind, devil, heaven and hell. Its title, Message To The Blackman, is directed to the American Blacks specifically, but addresses blacks universally as well. This was a manifesto-type of narrative based on the principles of F.W. Muhammad and Elijah Muhammad's interpretation of Islam, hence creating the Nation of Islam. This was an anthological series on various subjects (social & community, dietary, religious & Islamic exegetic analysis, historical, as well as the interpersonal & external relationship instructions). As the title stated, it acted as a message for prescribed behavior, manners, and interactions within the Islamic community and with the secular world. Notable was the polemic view on the white race, the white devils created by the the mad, evil scientist Yakub who plotted to destroy Black people.

This book was a ferverently written manifesto; I learned further about the Nation of Islam and its tenets. I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning more Elijah Muhammad and his views. Thanks!

Almost everything I knew as a child, I learned from the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Many things that he taught then are coming to pass now. Forget the predudiced idealism ans the myths that have been unfairly attatched to his teachings simply because he wanted the Black man to be more than he was and to receive respact, freedom, justice and equality. It made me a better person. A must read for every African American and for all races to get a better understanding of the tiny man that they once looked at as one of the biggest threats to America.

You must understand thee times, when thus book was written, you must understand how America was and had been to thee so called NEGRO, then you will able to understand thus book better, don't look at thee messenger of thee message, look at what being said. Yes thus book will take you there, because IT SEEMS like someone is trying to promote hate, but in fact their not. Elijah Muhammad was speaking from a time where EVERY BLACK person of his age could understand, but see he wasn't AFRAID to say thee things that were true, once again for me another good history book.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad has the right prescription for the blackman in America. A timeless pieces of work, unbelievably written for a man with little formal education. Islam is the true religion of people of African descent, read with and open mind and learn. SalaamMulakum

Everything that he taught is right and exact. If they told the truth there is no way the Black man and woman would be in the condition we are in. The lies to us then Elijah came to remind us who we were.

Many black Southerners born when Elijah Poole was born uplifted themselves through knowledge, that is knowledge connected to reality. Elijah Poole sought out mythology instead of knowledge; the Lost Tribe of Shabazz never existed except in the sphere of delusion. Poole only sought out a second grade education despite the availability of free public schools like the one my maternal grandfather attended in Mississippi. Poole, while relocating to the North devised his own mythology and promoted it inside of a cult, whose leader disappeared from life on this earth.

Poole attracted Malcolm Little to the Nation of Islam. The young man's early life was marked by tragedy as his father died before Malcolm reached the age of three and Malcolm was placed in orphanage to be raised by white people. After the life of crime he shared with his white girlfriend, Malcolm went to jail, where his life was redirected from economic criminality, when he embraced the anti-intellectualism, delusion, bigotry and mysticism of the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam destroyed the promise that Malcolm possessed in his persona and his life; literally by wasting his life on mythology, then murdering him.

Elijah Muhammad's life was not only tragic but malfeasant; his insanity is exposed on the pages of Message to the Blackman in America. The best that can be said is that the book left a record of Muhammad's insanity, so that there can be no confusion about it. The worse that can be said is that he never paid a price for the sexual exploitation he perpetrated.

I’m glad I bought this book my book has so much highlights. This book is definitely the blueprint of how to be a successful race with strength , integrity, honor . I was a fan of NOI before they got involved with Scientology and IRR but nothing less this should be required reading for anyone who wants to build up their race especially the black race .

One of the worst books I have ever read. Full of nonstop drivel, insanity, lies, misrepresentation, slander, racism, and idiocy. I am stupefied that so many believed in him at any moment for any period of time.

He makes tons of claims with NO evidence whatsoever. He claims the Bible has been poisoned (again, no evidence, just passages he doesn't like, doesn't understand, and that contradict his heretical, mythical teachings), but continuously quotes from the Bible; he will say a chapter is poisoned but still quote from that same chapter. Eisegesis everywhere; never looking at anything in context.

Like his other writings, he repeats himself nonstop. This book could have been divided by 6 and still been too long.

There is so much to pick at, so many erroneous and ridiculous assertions like:
Jesus being Caucasian (wrong), Muhammad was black (wrong), dynamite being used during the time of Moses (when it wouldn't be discovered for thousand of years), the earth is 66 trillion years old, we would never have a black president (lol)...He even started talking about flying saucers near the end (not kidding). And don't get me started on the Yakub stuff...

Couldn't take this serious for a second.

Message to The BlackMan was an excellent read, despite what some might say about it. It's definitely one of those reads that every Black Man in America must complete, no matter your religion. I will tell you upfront that Elijah Muhammad pushes Islam pretty hard in this book, but he does tell you what it's about in a traditional sense, and from a Nation of Islam sense. I would recommend this book to any Black Man in America who would like the current situation to be broken down from an honest standpoint. It's brutally honest, but it will definitely give you some insight on the racist mentality of white supremacists in America. Thank you for this wonderful read Elijah Muhammad, and I look forward to reading more of your texts.

This monumental book is a must read for every human being on the planet. This is because it explains, clearly, the knowledge of God, the knowledge of Self and the knowledge of the Devil. It reveals the secret knowledge of the reality of God who is creator of all and the universe.

This is a book that offers a snapshot of a particular moment and time, in which questions are posed and answered on behalf of the African-American community. It presents a unique salvation history (a divine revelation) based on a syncretic and highly idiosyncratic hermeneutics, incorporating elements of the Qur'an, the Old and New Testaments, and a new mythology orientated by racial supremacy and ethnic separatism.

The impact of Elijah Muhammad can't be denied. It is a fact that the Nation of Islam has continued to function successfully, even attempting to expand its message (especially under the leadership and guidance of Louis Farrakhan) beyond Amercian shores. In this regard the narrative involving Fard Muhammad, Elijah Muhammad, and Farrakhan, is a part of the weft and weave of the last American century.

That said, a critical reading of this text results in a great many questions, and one wonders why this text has not been studied in the same way as Hitler's 'Mein Kampf'. The common threads are notable, if explicitly orientated by way of a different axis. Perhaps the greatest sadness is that there are folks who still want to draw upon and sustain their lives by way of such shoddy lies.

As a document of historical interest it is certainly worth reading - but there is a clear reason why the 'teachings' of the Nation of Islam will continue to remain petinent only to a very small section of society, living their lives (for the most part) apart from wider society.

Does the Nation have a future? With Farrakhan entering old age with clearly diminishing health, there is no credible successor possessing, most crucially, a place and role within the existing textual discourse, thereby being justifed to take the Nation beyond an increasingly ossified existence.

Perhaps this is a cause for celebration.

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad writes concrete solutions in uplifting the Black Community and restoring spiritual faith and authenticity to the Black Man and Black race in general. He also gave the Black Man a way to self-identify and awakened within the Black Man his value and his journey towards knowledge of self. This is a book every Black Man should read if they wish to understand the key book that influenced Muhammad Ali, Dr. Na'im Akbar, and many original followers of the original Nation Of Islam. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad was not only diligent in defending the Black race but also very resilient when it came to pointing out how our people were affected by the racists. This book may seem controversial to those who aren't aware of what his generation and many of our people endured under racism and hate crimes in America. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad is not racist, he just preferred to label the racists a certain way to alienate them away from the violence they inflicted on many throughout history. That is a successful attack in order to restore humanity. If the racists didn't want to be labeled, they shouldn't have inflicted all the evil acts on our people in the first place. We only wish to understand and uplift humanity and try to figure out who we are since there is a plethora of distractions our way. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad teaches truth as it stands through documented history and throughout the real world. I believe this man tried the best he could to familiarize us with the spiritual teachings of the Quran/Bible as well as deliver our people from the snares and inferiority that the racists projected and inflicted on our people. He was not perfect but he was an honorable man. He was fearlessly dedicated. The NOI have produced some of the most respectful most intelligent group of Black Men in modern day society and we have to give credit that a man such as The Honorable Elijah Muhammad followed in the footsteps of Marcus Garvey as it relates to successfully organizing the Black masses towards liberation, freedom, justice, equality, and better living and financial conditions. It was an exceptionally good book, and there were only a few things that the Most Hon. Elijah Muhammad said that I disagreed with, which isn't that important to list here. Overall this is an important book from an important man. He did the best he could with the way he spoke and taught and researched. We have to give praise to our Teachers and Scholars who are aware of the problems inflicting our people and make concrete attempts to solve them.

I read this book in prison after I read Chapter 18 of the Holy Quran, The Cave. The Holy Quran reminded me of a Bible read, it was my first look at Islam.

Next, I was given the Islamic prayer times and what is called The Refuge Prayer and the book Message to the Blackman in America. After every Prayer I read the book, and it was like reading what I thought about things but could not vocalize on my own.

I was in Shock and Electrified and baffled that every man on my block was not reading thus book.

It made understand Jesus and Christianity unlike no Christian preacher ever could that came across since.

It transformed my life.

I am a "white devil" and don't have the right to judge either this book or the movement itself. Yet so much strikes true so many years after it was written and spoken. American, and that is, the white race, still hates, still sends troops to attack and arrest those who speak the truth. Yes, there are some white people here, perhaps many, but it doesn't offsets the hate which fills society today. I don't agree with the conclusions of Elijah Muhammad, but he speaks the truth in what he says. A major work.

This is one of those books that you must read multiple times and your understanding self grows, so will your understanding of this book. This book is the best at helping Black people in America and all over the World be introduced to why and how we got in the condition that we are in and how to solve the problems that keep us in a perpetual slave like state of existence. First and foremost, The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad introduces us to ourselves, our God and our open enemy. Phenomenal!!!

For a deeper understanding of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, this book discusses the theology and mission of the Nation of Islam. Written in 1965, the book is a sharp critique of institutional racism and a call for self reliance and independence from exploitation and self hatred. It challenges the devils who are the cause of racism, the failure of Christianity, and the limitations of social integration. Some topics are repeated. However, it will help the reader understand the vision of Malcolm X and the Nation of Islam in the 1960s. It is a very interesting book to read.

I am impressed by Elijah Muhammad for utilizing a technique that has worked for centuries in gaining followers. Simply convince people you are of religious authority. No one can prove or disprove spooks. No matter what continent, and no matter what century, people believe in and worship fantasies. Elijah Muhammad is proof that if you master some good fantasy game, you can master men.

Some parts of the book were a little challenging to follow, in addition there is a sense of repetitiveness that occurs throughout the book which was a little annoying. Overall this was a very informative book. Granted it was a much different time than it is today. However a lot of the key points still reign true in 2018. A must read.

a bit racist from my point of view. I work with someone who says he is a "black Muslim" a religion that respects all other religions, but they don't seem to adhere to most traditions of Islam. Wanted to understand his religion a little better.
