Let me preface this review by saying that, yes, this book has its flaws and yes the atmosphere is different to the other volumes and I get why people might now like it but I? Basically was over this like a giant piece of cake after a long run. I just enjoyed this so much.
It's actually a bit like that weird christmas or halloween episode of your favourite show. Everything and everyone is a little different and maybe a bit cuter and sweeter, and maybe it's even OOC (there is no OOC here though) but sheesh, you can't help but love it.
Like Simplex, this is an extra story, and the new characters here are Lewis, a mystery writer, and Doug, a cop working with Paco (Yuuto's brother). Lewis is one of the suspects in a case Doug is working on, something that Doug discovers after just having experienced the worst morning after ever - at Lewis‘ place. The culprit isn't that difficult to spot, I guess, but the way it all came together in the end and the culprit‘s motives and their repercussions were dealt with in a way that reminded me of the main series.
Doug and Lewis‘ relationship evolves a bit too quickly, and it feels very much like a relationship that only happens in a novel, but the same can be said for the entire series. Doug‘s behavior as a cop made me cringe a little, but at least he was chastised by Paco.
The cameos of the other characters were fun and lovely, and I can't wait to finally pick up Stay and Away. I missed Tonya, and I really would love to read her story - if well done.
I also have to say that Aida Saki's novels are very easy to read for me. I hardly ever have to look up words. And yet her style doesn't feel overly simple. I just get pulled into the story completey, it's a great reading experience. I love it.
