When a dangerous blizzard forced Kayla Evans and her family to find refuge, no one knew what the consequences would be. The rich suburbanites found themselves in Amish country dealing with the absence of electricity and modern conveniences.
Kayla found herself attracted to David, the handsome blond teenager and member of the Amish family they took refuge with. The feeling appeared mutual. After letters and visits back to the Amish family homestead, the young couple realized conflict was ahead for them. Could there ever be a meaningful relationship between them, beyond friendship?
David also felt a calling to attend college. Still in his rumschpringe years, he could decide to leave the familiar community and become part of the English world. But could he leave everything familiar behind him for the unknown?
June Bryan Belfie began writing in her 70s and has written over 30 books. Her Amish novels became best sellers on Amazon Kindle, and her work has been published with both Harlequin and Desert Breeze. While raising five children, June found time to take up oil painting and studied under several nationally known artists. She also loved to play the piano, sing, and sew.
In the 1970’s, she and her husband, Jim, purchased and operated a thirty-eight-room country inn located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania where she established an art gallery as well as creative workshops, which took place in a converted recreation hall. I truly enjoyed this book! A great story line that kept me riveted to each page. Strong and believable characters both Amish and English...two different lifestyles intertwined. I am ready for book 2 and can't wait to read what happens to Kayla and David. I recommend this book to all whom love reading Amish books!
While this story does not end, you won't feel as if it just quit. It has a kernel of truth and several lessons. But such a lovely enjoyable read. No errors were found. Highly recommend. I look forward to the next story in this series.
I loved this book...it has a cliff hanger ending and I will definitely be starting the next book soon. Can an Englisher and an Amish man actually fall in love?
I liked David and his Amish family and I liked Kaylie as well. I feel "shortchanged" in that the book didn't seem to end "right" - it seemed like it ended right in the middle of a chapter.
The Blizzard written by June Bryan Believe is the first book in her latest series, The King Family of Lancaster County. I have read all of this authors books that are written about the Amish genre and I was not disappointed with this book. The author has a flare to throw her readers into situations that you wouldn't think the Amish would be involved in and this book was no different.
When a Blizzard causes the Evans family to have an accident and end up in a deep gulley the King Family steps in to help out. By opening their home to the Evans family to ride out the blizzard and recover from their minor injuries are they also opening themselves up for trouble? When Kayla Evans meets David King her impression of him is shocking. Will her infatuation be short lived or will Kayla and David come up with a plan to see each other again?
David King has always had love for animals and the need to be able to help them when problems happened. In fact David has been studying how to help animals behind his parents back. What happens when he reveals to his parents that he wants to continue his education to become a veterinarian assistant? Who will his parents blame for this decision?
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to review. I am, however, submitting my honest review. I highly recommend this book to all Amish fans. I will be reading book 2 in this series immediately so I can continue to see how the story evolves. Congratulations June Bryan Believe for another great book. I have also rated this book for excellence with 5 stars.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Only disappoint was that I have to wait to read next book to find out what happens. After the Evans famly gets stranded after their car ends up in the ditch during a blizzard they are taken in by the King family. Kayla Evans meets David King and when they leave for home they correspond with each other. David wants to get training as a vet to take care of the animals of his amish neighbors and his family does not want that to happen. The Eli, Davids dad does not like that David and Kayla getting so close. You must read to see what happens in the story.
What a page turner! Although Kayla's family was financially well off, they lacked the one thing money can't buy....make that two.....happiness and love. They are so unhappy and not nice to each other. They are also self-absorbed. Is that what having money does to people? It wouldnt hurt Jenny to find something meaningful to do with her life. She isnt a good role model for her kids. Thankfully Kayla's family found the Amish family. Too bad they didnt put to use what they observed during that stay.
On the other hand, though from two different worlds Kayla and David are so drawn to each other, its incredible. I can it wait to read book two.
A wealthy family driving from NY to Gettysburg in the winter took off in the snow. While driving, the snow turned into a blizzard. Taking back roads to avoid the slow traffic on the highways, they ran off the road and wrecked the car. An Amish family took them in and they stayed several days. The simple way they lived taught the family a different way of life. They realized the Amish, who have very little in comparison, and live such simple lives, were quite happy. This was a simply written book. I'd say it was geared more for a younger reader...preteen, teen, young adult.
I started this book, and after about 5 or 6 pages, I found it to be not what I was expecting at all. The story line was okay, but I did not find it genuine. I might have gotten better.... but I've decided to not waste my time with books that just dont' grab me after a few chapters. I gave this one 5.
June Belfie is one of my favorite writers. This book did not disappoint. I’m getting ready to start book 2 in the series. I can’t wait to find out what happens with David and Kayla. Did he leave the Amish for her? Did she become Amish for him? Did he go to college? I can’t wait to find out!
I really enjoyed reading this book but it left me in a cliffhanger cannot wait to read Book 2 of this series cannot wait to see what happen with David and Kayla but it shows how two people from very different backgrounds in away are not that different at all.
