Wow. I honestly can say that I anxiously anticipated pt. 3 to this book. I really enjoyed pt.1 and I liked part 2 but I'm not sure what happened with part 3. Let's begin at the beginning. The tone of the story has completely changed. When the females were originally introduced in this saga the one thing that endeared them to me was the sense of them knowing who they were as women and what they would and would not accept from their men. That seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. Part 2 ended with China being kidnapped and Charlie ending up in the hospital. We quickly see that we are not reading about mastermind criminals in Tracy and Chantel. Thankfully we are able to see this come to a positive conclusion. Then fast forward and we see Charlie in the hospital pregnant dealing with the guilt of not trusting her instincts. Now I know that Quan is this big time rapper, frayed around the edges, and still very much possesses a street mentality but for him to enter into his pregnant WIFE's hospital room and speak to her as if she was just some random woman on the street I took a huge issue with his demeanor. Long gone was the Quan that we had witnessed previously who treasured Charlie and respected pretty much the ground that she walked on. Even in anger and fright, I understand emotions were high but to threaten her and to tell her if something were to happen to their child he would never forgive her. Then to ultimately get China back and not call his again PREGNANT WIFE to allow her mind to be put at ease was completely out of character. Moving on to Toya and her debacle I just don't understand how she went from being so tough, self-assured, and full of self-confidence to this jealous rattled woman who thought that she needed to scream on every single female that looked at Dre wrong. Then to allow him to speak to her and "punish" her for being disloyal about something that clearly was well within her rights to do was just unfathomable to me. Lastly, his manner of allowing her out of the doghouse was absolutely despicable and completely did not track with the Toya that we'd been previously introduced to. I'm just not sure what went wrong with this installment the story just wasn't the same and it was almost as if I was reading about different characters with the same names. The lack of follow-thru on many situations where we were just left hanging with no clue as to what happened was simply not something that has happened in the previous books. The Chantel pregnancy was one example of this, the incident that occurred with Toya and James is another clear example of this. Ms. Johnson is a very good writer and although this story has several issues, I'm convinced that Ms. Johnson does possess the skill set to provide us with one heck of a comeback with the next installment.
