To the devil a daughter! Parenthood can come as a shock to some. It’s especially shocking if you are Satan, the Prince of Hell, and are trying to live a quiet life of semi-retirement in suburban England under the name of Jeremy Clovenhoof. Clovenhoof quickly finds that being a single parent involves more than lullabies and nappies and has to contend with social disapproval, paternity tests and, possibly, the end of the world. The fifth novel in the Clovenhoof series, Beelzebelle is an anarchic adventure, featuring a psychotic monkey au pair, runaway coffins, badly stuffed animals, strip dominoes, fire-breathing ferrets, pimped-up prams, well-meaning middle-class mums, apocalyptic floods, the largest act of public nudity Birmingham has ever seen and way too much homebrew Lambrini.
Book five in the Clovenhoof series where Satan and Archangel Michael have been kicked out of hell / heaven and are adjusting to life in Sutton Coldfield, UK.
This series is just good comedy fun. In this instalment the Archangel has got a job in tech and Satan has taken on babysitting (which was pretty adorable).
Laugh out loud funny, love the puns and especially love Ben.
At time of posting this entire series is available on Kindle Unlimited.
Beelzebelle, as stated in the description, is the fifth novel in the Clovenhoof series. This is a great series but to get full enjoyment out of this book I would recommend reading Clovenhoof first before reading this one. Clovenhoof is the first novel in the series and our introduction to the brilliant characters. It is also hilariously funny and one not to be missed.
The authors have created a series of books to do with everything heavenly and hell. Some of the other books in the series don’t have these characters in them and even though still good, I have to admit that the books with Jeremy Clovenhoof, Ben and Nerys in, are without a doubt my absolute favourites.
This is one devil that you can’t help but love. He is a total thorn in the side to poor Ben and Nerys and, well basically to everyone he meets. He has no thought of anyone else but himself, yet funnily enough you won’t be able to get enough of this Lambrini drinking and Findus Crispy Pancake eating swine.
In this novel Jeremy manages to be left babysitting a baby. Anyone who knows Jeremy just knows what a disaster this is going be.Through his babysitting he becomes involved in the mothers group SCUM. Yes I know, you would think they would realise when creating a group that the first letter of each word of the group isn’t the most pleasant of words.
The authors have created yet another laugh out loud story that is extremely entertaining. There are so many funny parts in the novel. The characters are just wonderful and you can’t help but take every one of them into your hearts.
A truly heart warming and endearing read that will have you laughing your socks off!
Many thanks to TBC (THE Book Club on Facebook) and the authors for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Any time Jeremy Clovenhoof (AKA Satan) gets involved with a person, project or problem it is guaranteed to go pear shaped rather quickly. In this case he adopts/abducts (potato / pototo) a baby from a neighbor woman who is off to Kenya on vacation. He also purchases a monkey and devilish hilarity ensues.
But all is not well in their little slice of Birmingham; a new mega church has opened that is futuristic and packing them in with apps and tablets (not the kind Moses brought down) and piety points. Archangel Michael (aka PigeonWings) is working for ARC resources trying to get genetic samples of all the animals for his boss Chip Malarky
Nerys' dog Twinkles is run over by a megavan; Ben stuffs it for her and their house explodes after an attempt to get the monkey with the flame throwing badger out of the walls. There is a breast feeding protest, a demonic monster and a weirdly shaped church to be dealt with.
This is a story that keeps you guessing with every turn of the page whether it is baby Parkour or which stuffed animal diorama is most horrific.
Everybody's favourite Prince of Hell is back, and this time he has a baby....and a monkey. What could possibly go wrong.
With Beelzebelle, the 5th in Goody and Grant's Clovenhoof series, Jeremy Clovenhoof (aka Satan, exiled from Hell and now living in suburban Birmingham) is back leading the story and where he goes, chaos follows. Trailing along in his wake, trying to pick up the pieces are his neighbours Ben and the man-hungry Nerys, and his nemesis Michael (aka St. Michael, exiled from Heaven, also living in the Birmingham area). And what is that chaos? - well, start with JC getting a baby (and a monkey), joining SCUM (Sutton Coldfield Union of Mothers) and getting himself, Ben and Nerys made temporarily homeless, then throw in a new church being built by a slightly dodgy seeming chap, the death of Nerys' dog and the sudden appearance of a mighty monster - The Beast of Boldmere.
As expected from this series chaotic scene follows chaotic scene but somehow the authors manage to tie everything up by the end. Just when you think things cannot get any dafter they somehow manage to up their game finishing up with a scene of such magnificent insanity and (that word again) chaos that it would take the likes of Cecil B DeMille to film it (and I would love to see a visual version of the Clovenhoof stories)
What I really like about these stories is that in Jeremy Clovenhoof Goody and Grant don't portray Satan as 'Ultimate Evil' just someone who likes a bit of fun and mischief, okay, a LOT of fun and mischief. JC is one of those people you would end up hanging around with (even though you know it won't end well) and contrary to what you would expect from The Prince Of Darkness he does often try to do the right thing (often in a very convoluted and roundabout way, but the right thing nonetheless).
If I had to compare these authors with anyone, and I may have said this before, I would say Tom Holt at his best, but if I went in a shop with enough to buy only one book and it was a choice between the two I'd come out with Goody and Grant book every time.
Hilarious. I now just like these characters, I like their company and I like the adventures they have. I regularly chuckled throughout this book and just found it a joy to read.
The child care style of Jeremy is just off kilter enough to be both empowering and wrong. The scrapes are pure farce aften taken right to the most extreme edge but the are always fun to watch.
These are comedy gold still. I have yet to get tired of them.
kindle unlimited, read through the other 3, basically unrelated book, and not going through this series, and it all started because wanted to see what the one about Trump was, and wanted the full background of the books first, and now already on book 4, although there are some shorts but wanted to hit the main ones first. Just one more to go before trump's up

Beelzebelle by Heide Goody and Iain Grant - a Review
Although technically the fifth book in the Clovenhoof series by these authors, this is the third that actually features the character of Jeremy Clovenhoof (aka Satan, Lucifer, The Fallen One, etc. Don’t ask him to list them all, there isn’t enough Lambrini in the world to compensate) and his hapless, doomed-by-his-proximity neighbours. It starts innocuously enough: Jeremy is asked to mind a baby until its mother arrives. What could possibly go wrong? It ends, as usual, in chaos, destruction, mass nudity and a visit to the pub… This series has always made me smile. This one had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. Jeremy’s character seemed more rounded, more consistent, more aware even; his one-liners have certainly improved, and his view of the world (and his place in it) has settled somewhat since the last adventure. Admittedly, it has settled on the side of mayhem and a blithe disregard for consequences, but what else might we expect from the devil incarnate? This observation could be extended to every other character, too: all the main players appear more full, more consistent in their attitudes and reactions, and the book definitely profits from this. The authors really appear to have hit their stride now, and if there are to be more in this series, then I look forward to them hugely.
After two books like felt like side quests the main characters are back and boy is the difference noticeable. Michael gets a tech job and ends up addicted to pokemon go -Jesus edition-, Satan starts babysitting and it's adorable, Ben gets a weird hobby and he's as cute as ever.
This was a hilarious installment and the dynamic between Michael & Satan is, as always, the best part hands down.
Another great story from Iain and Heidi with Jeremy and his own brand of chaos and destruction. Jeremy tasked with handing over Spartacus baby sister decides to keep her instead and also takes on a crazy overly maternal crazy capuchin monkey, this book as always with this group of protagonists always brings chuckles and hilarity. Onto book 6 I have some catching up to do!
I must admit I wasn't sure about this one at first it seemed to take a while to get going It didn't seem as easy to read as the previous books in the series I stuck with it and I'm glad I did I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone Not quite as laugh out loud as the previous instalments but still as brilliant Can't wait for the next one
Well the flood is coming, Michael is doubting his faith in everything and seeking a purpose to his failures, Ben has developed a grim hobby of taxidermy and small animal themed diorama's, Nerys becomes a bag lady hunting new flat, and Jeremy becomes a father with a service monkey. What else could possibility go wrong?
Some scenes in this book are sheer comedic genius, granted more of the ludicrous Spaceballs variety than even a decent screwball Seth Roogan or Wil Ferrell movie. Let's just say it runs the gamut from some taxidermic misadventures to a dramatic rescue involving an adult themed bounce house.
I love, love, love this series! Its almost five in the morning as I write this, and still I contemplate starting the next book. I've always found religious history to be fascinating, and here you are, tickling me pink with your filthy humor to boot. Well done, and thank you for bringing this world to life.
A demon made out of dogs hairs, other bits of DNA and Satan's nail clippings makes an appearance. Between him and the Scum ladies getting their boobs out and the new arc filled with poo... well you get the idea! Just another standard day for Satan.
This series is wonderful. Hilarious, irreverent and still managing to deliver some theological questions while also making you laugh at the antics of both Satan and Michael and all parties that lie on their paths. I would have loved this in my theology classes. Hope someone is using this 7 book series in something.
This is my favorite of the series. In fact it is my favorite of Goody's and Grant's work. It is a perfect mix of whimsical, absurd and irreverent. Every character nails their mark. I've read it multiple times and still can't remember all the twists and turns it takes. I'd go so far as to recommend it as a stand alone novel to those unfamiliar with Goody and Grant.
To understand why I enjoyed this book so much, you should know I'm a preacher's kid who is currently breast feeding my first baby, who's a week old. I found this whole series very funny, but this book in particular was good timing for my life right now.
I absolutely adore this series. I love that the characters feel real, even the immortal ones and that the story has a number of mini stories brewing which all culminate in a big fun and hilarious ending. It's so absurd, it's brilliant.
A very relaxing read.Subtle plots intertwine throughout.Curl up with this and enjoy. The authors have obviously hit it off together and write these books extremely well.
Another mad frolic in the mayhem that is the life of JC. I can't even imagine the storyboard that forms these books. All the characters beautifully intertwined to save Sutton Coldfield
Jeremy outdoes himself as a father, and along with his pet monkey endears himself to the mothers of SCUM fun time. I recommend this as a good path for Jeremy to have taken.
I must say I am enjoying these books even though they're not what I usually go for but they are superbly written and very funny definitely recommend them
