I love this book... I was so moved when I was reading it... ...I definitely saw my mom and my papa and all of the hardships, challenges, and sacrifices that they made to make me who I am today... I was so moved by this book... plus my copy is actually a present from my parents 5 days before my birthday... and before that I used to think that I mean nothing to them and I actually took them for granted... but, after my mama gave me a copy of this one I just realized...how special and lucky I am...
"I want to you to always know that in good and in bad times I will love you and that no matter what you do or how you think or what you say you can depend on my support, guidance friendship and love every minute of every day"
This is a wonderful book about the unconditional love of a mother for her daughter. Through Schutz's poems, you can feel the heartwarming affection she has for her daughter coupled with important lessons that she wishes for her daughter to know. The book encompasses the hopes and dreams a parent has for their child and is simply beautiful. I also love the fact that the poems are written by the mother and the illustrations created by the father (a book by a writer and illustrator who are married- so incredibly sweet!) The author's "about" page at the end is also heartwarming as well. As someone whose mother passed away at a young age who handed this book down to me, this is one of my fondest treasures as a reminder of her love for me. This book means a lot to me and I tend to reread it each Mother's Day as a small reminder of the lessons she taught me and the love she had for me. I love you, mom!
My mother gave this book to my sister, and I before she passed away in 2009. I just now had the courage to read it. Through tears; I am happy I did. It sounded like my mother. It was her way of saying goodbye, leaving us with her last bit of advice, and love. It showed a part of her we didn't always see. It was her way of showing us her heart. I wish I could have read it sooner, but it was too hard. I now have, and I'm a mixture of emotions.
This book is very sentimental for me. My mom gifted it to me for my 16th birthday and she even wrote little notes throughout it. Little reminders in her handwriting along with the pretty poems feels very special. It makes me tear up every time I read it and it reminds me of my mom and how much she loves me and means to me!
I loved this book, it has so much love and knowledge inside it. It gave me new perspectives and it of course will always make me appreciate having such a loving mother. I am so grateful for both of my parents. If I ever have my own kids I will be sure to pass this book onto them as well.
Mi madre me regaló este libro hace años, y ahorra es cuando por fin vengo a leerlo. Las palabras expresan el amor maravillosamente, y las ilustraciones son bellas. ♥️
My mom gifted me this book in 1999 when I was in the 5th grade. On my mission to read the books on my shelves, I picked up To My Daughter, with Love now when I'm 35 years old. My mom wrote me a beautiful note and highlighted passages. This is such a special keepsake.
There's an especially powerful poem that my mom highlighted about mothers trying to manage time and give enough time to family, work and to save some time for themselves. My mom was obviously highlighting this to demonstrate what she was going through and help me understand. I now have a two year old and this passage speaks to me in the same way it spoke to my own mom.
This might be my favorite book on my shelves. Thank you to the author and thank you to my own mom for taking the time to purchase, read, annotate, and gift to me all those years ago.
I felt like I was reading a collection of letters and not poems. Even reading them as "letters" didn't help my opinion of them. The writing is not great, the poems are a bit repetitive, and overall I was just glad when it was over.
These were sweet. They weren't really complex or original poems, but they're just nice little poems I'm sure a lot of mothers out there would want to read to their daughters. And the pictures and bright colors were a nice touch.
My mom gave me this book when I was in my mid-teens, just at the perfect age to love sappy poems. As I look at it now I'd only give it a 3, but I remember I really loved it way back when! Susan Polis Schutz is the ultimate greeting card writer, and this book feels like it!
