Selected quotes from several Chinese philosophers

I was in the mood to read some of Confucius words of wisdom, and came across this selection, which pairs some of his quotes with those of two of his students as well as other philosophers.

This is not a page turner, this is a stop and reflect, then read a bit more kind of book. The philosophers included offer pearls of wisdom, from centuries gone by, that remain relevant and worthy of reflection.

A great little preview of passages from key ancient Chinese thinkers. But it really is just a kind of preview, with a handful of quotes from each. This works fine as an accompaniment for Puett's The Path (download for free to read along with each chapter in Puett's book), but disappointing if you want more depth.

This brief book covers Confucianism, Daoism, and a bit of Buddhism. Prof. Puett and Ms Gross-Loh have written an accessible introduction to Chinese philosophy. The final chapter on living an as-if life is 5+ stars. I would really like to have a more thorough, in depth book on the key Chinese philosophical schools, Confucianism and Daoism. Because of this book, I also listened to the Great Courses lectures on The Analects and on Great Minds of Eastern Thought. I will try to read The Analects, The Daodejing in Chinese at some point.

This book is preview of ancient Chinese philosophy. Definitely, I will read deeper each philosopher. I liked more Zhuangzi than others. It is about "if we try the shoes on then we could tell more about them. I THINK 😂 LOL HAHA.

Wisdom From the Ancient Far East

The wise individual will not mock wisdom literature that has guided the minds and cultures of thousands of years ago.

As I read the, I so wished that today’s politicians would contemplate and act on these maxims.

Not bad but lacks context

I didn’t really understand what they were saying and referring to. To be fair it is a companion book so it’s not bad.

Good thoughts

While this book provided great thoughts, I was looking for more background on the individuals. I would still recommend it.
