Alfie the Doorstep Cat - star of the smash-hit Sunday Times bestseller - is back in brand new ALFIE story for a younger readership.
Alfie is everyone’s favourite cat. A big ball of grey fur who changes the lives of every family he meets. When the Clover family move into Alfie’s neighbourhood he soon makes friends with eight-year-old Stanley Clover. Stanley wants to be a famous explorer and takes Alfie along on his adventures. But Alfie soon realises that Stanley is unhappy. He is jealous of his talented sister Viola and feels ignored by his mum and dad who only ever seem to notice him when he gets into trouble. Can Alfie help Stanley get noticed for the right reasons?
Rachel Wells is a mother, writer and cat lover who lives in North Devon with her son, Xavier and her cat Lady A. She grew up in Devon but lived in London for a number of years, working in Marketing and living in a tiny flat with an elderly rescued cat, who she called Albert.
After having a child she moved back home and is currently juggling writing full time and being a single mum.
She has always had cats as pets, ever since she was a young child, and she has always loved writing. Delighted to have been able to combine her two main passions, ALFIE THE DOORSTEP CAT was her first cat novel. She has continued with A CAT CALLED ALFIE, ALFIE & GEORGE and the new book, ALFIE THE HOLIDAY CAT. Delighted to be able to continue to bring Alfie’s adventures to life, Alfie has become a part of the family. She has also written two books for children about Alfie; ALFIE – CAT IN TROUBLE and ALFIE – FAR FROM HOME.
Alfie is a doorstep cat. He likes people and shares himself amongst three families. One has a new baby and they are tired and grumpy, so Alfie spends more time with a new family that has moved into the neighbourhood.
They are a strange bunch. Dad paints fruit and eggs paintings. Mum is always too busy. The little girl is a prodigy, spending much of her time on her piano or with piano lessons, and the little boy is scolded often at his antics. He’s always getting into trouble and Alfie can see that he just wants some attention from his parents, thinking they love his sister more than him. Slowly but surely, with Alfie’s help, the family begins to understand.
Sweet. Young animal lovers will like this cute series with soft black and white illustrations.
A very short story, evidently written for children, but still a good story. The time falls somewhere before the kitten George makes an appearance and Alfie and Tiger are the only cats in this one. Alfie meets the new people, the Clovers, who are a rather eccentric family. Mother is a potter, father paints fruit (!), Viola is a young piano prodigy, and Stanley is pretty much overlooked. Stanley wants to be an adventurer and ropes Alfie in to be his 'assistant', usually managing to get them both in trouble. Alfie manages to make the brother and sister friends again, and the parents start paying a little more attention to their children. Not a lot to the book, it is a very fast read.
Alfie lives between many homes and families but the new family, the Clovers need help as Viola hates being forced to practice piano all the time, Stanley feels left out and forgotten while their dad is more interested in his wacky fruit art and their mother in keeping the new home tidy.
Can Alfie make them happy together again?
Alfie reunites a family and shows them love the way all great pets do. It was a sweet read and shows how lets can be a friends when a human one isn't there for support.
This sweet story is easy to relate to with kids especially. Siblings often disagree but usually ban together against their parents. Alfie makes things better all the time.
An adorable, young readers version of the Alfie books. As it is targeted for younger readers it's a much quicker read, but has all of the beloved charm of Alfie anyway.
