Accidental Leigh by Melanie James
Literal Leigh Romance Diaries book 1. Paranormal. Cliffhanger.
Leigh decides to start an author career and buys a desk to help with the process. She soon finds out that the desk is cursed and her written scenes turn her friends and family into unlikely situations.
Does this make her a witch?
Humorous paranormal where the writing turns into literal action. Fun and lite.
Cliffhanger.
I will continue since it was an couple of hours.

First, I want to start off by saying I usually don't do "bad" reviews. However in this case, I just couldn't hold my tongue. I purchased this book for Kindle off of Amazon, I wasn't looking to purchase anything but read the synopsis and it caught my attention. I yelled "take my money, please" and purchased it for the cost of $1. That is where everything went wrong.
Though the story line is inviting, a reader devastated by the death of their favorite character and looking for revenge by rewriting that characters story, it's not exactly what the story is about. LIKE AT ALL! By the third page in I was already annoyed.
The main character Leigh is an awful human being. She's disrespectful towards men in her views of them, such as what they should look like, how they should act and is utterly appalled that they aren't on their knees giving her everything she's ever wanted like the male characters in books she reads. Apart from hating "real" men, she also hates her mother and her cat. Throughout the book it doesn't seem like she likes anyone other than a few friends. She even seems to hate the children she teaches and her co-workers. Leigh is a miserable woman who is hung up on the world of fiction that she allows it to affect her personal life to the point where I was disgusted at the fact that she was a teacher, shaping the lives of young children into what they would become as adults!
Things didn't get any better for me while continuing on. Leigh groans on and on with nothing really happening but everything happening too quickly. She decides she wants to write a book, perfect, but only gets to write one chapter before realizing a similarity between what she wrote and her conversation with her mother about her mothers events the night before. As soon as she sees the similarity, she automatically says she wrote the event with no doubts and calls over her best friend to tell her she has magical powers.
Magical powers? Up until then there has been nothing mentioned about magic or anything supernatural other than the werewolf in the book she was reading. Her best friend, doesn't question anything either going along with the magic idea and running with it! What?!
I finished this book in less than a day and it wasn't because I was enthralled. I wanted it out of my life as quickly as possible. There is no history, nothing that gives me a sense of who Leigh is beside her constant bitching that her cat hates her and basically saying men are shit unless they are fictional characters in books. To make things worse, the book ends in a cliff-hanger which doesn't give any answer or make sense and it certainly doesn't make me hop onto my computer to purchase the next installment.
Overall, this book left me frustrated beyond belief that I took the time to even write a review, this long which I rarely ever do! I'm glad I only spent $1 on it but then again I kind of want my $1 back!

Not for me. I feel like I can't really give it a fair review because while I didn't like it, I'm sure there are readers out there who will. It's not a "bad" book, it's just not for me. Thus, I rated it as "okay". It is my own fault really. It said in the blurb that the main character is a writer. It mentions she writes "steamy erotic scenes" and tries to prevent a "wild erotic encounter". I guess I just thought since the character is a writer, she'd be writing about those in the books within this book and not really full-blown going into them. I just loved the cute cover, the clever title, and the overall premise of the story, so I ignored the whole "erotica" thing and went into it with high hopes. I was disappointed and completely turned off within the first few lines. I just don't like f-bombs that are tossed carelessly in every sentence. It's just not my thing. I always think that vulgar language is bad writing unless it has a purpose, which is to help define a character's personality. F-bombs just sprinkled in everywhere as sentence enhancers? Huge turn off for me. It made me instantly dislike the main character, who was an elementary school teacher by the way. I sure hope real life elementary school teachers don't talk this way! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to think that every teacher who works with young children is well-behaved all the time. We're all human after all. I just prefer to read a character that works with children who censors herself-- "oh poo" is much funnier to me when the character wants to say something else but is just used to watching her potty mouth around kids. To me that's just more realistic when you work with kids on a daily basis. My two cents. That said, I was never able to get past the things that I didn't like about this book... one of which was the main character. It is very difficult to read a book about someone you instantly dislike. I tried, but it truly just isn't my thing. For me, too much vulgar language and it's more erotica that romance. It really took away from the possibilities of the good story concept. I struggled to finish it. Like I said, it's just not for me. I'm sure there is an audience for this kind of book, I'm just not it. That's not the writers fault at all. As a writer, you can't please everyone and an important goal is to know your audience. I believe Melanie James knows what she wants to write and what demographic she's writing to. It's not her fault that I, as a reader, didn't fit that demographic. There's some good humorous writing in here, which was a plus. I wish I'd liked it as much as I hoped I would.

A bit of brainless fun. Ha, I enjoyed it.

Leigh gets a magical desk and writes hot sex scenes, but then they come true! And everything turns out wrong. Ha, yes it was pretty amusing.

It was a novella, I can roll with that and that is why I chose it. Short is good. I'd read more

Leigh is devastated that her novel boyfriend has been killed off by what was her favorite author so she decides to write a book in which the hero isn't killed off. After writing a little she discovers that she is a witch and can make things happen. What ensues are the most enjoyable parts of the book. Up to the end I probably would have given the book a three at least.

I gave it a one for a few reasons. The major reason is because the story just ends, there's no transition or closure, one minute your reading and the next you've gone to the next page and it says "Chapter 1" - I thought at first there must have been some type of typo but no it really is a drop-off the cliff, cliff-hanger. The second reason was that I didn't really feel I knew the characters other than the fact that they really liked and wanted sex, except for Hunter. And the final reason was what happened to mom & dad YUCK! But, I'm one of those people who don't want to hear about their parents - especially with such detail.

Book #1 in the Literal Leigh Romance Diaries Series

Okay to start off I have heard different things about this book. So I was dying to try it out for myself. When I finally got my hands on it, I dove right in. I am so glad that I did. The first few pages of the book literally had me loling while as a blogger who interacts with authors made me go....Love it! I adored the perspective of an author character who was a honest as our awesome heroine. The way she just let it all out there made me smile more times than I could count. It didn't stop there. The side characters, her buddies and parents, made me laugh so many times with their jokes and slap stick sense of humor that it just pushed the story to an even greater level. It was definately nice just to laugh and enjoy a book so much. All in all, a great read from beginning to cliff hanger ending. So I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

I just do not know how to take this book. It wasn't a romance, not really. It wasn't a mystery, nothing to solve. It was kind of loosely paranormal, the witchy stuff I guess?

It really wants to be a funny book but it fell flat. Many of the plot turns are predictable. I did not like Leigh at all. She was annoying most of the time. Her wanting to help goes awry and wasn't all that helpful to begin with.

I might have liked things better if they were not all from Leigh's POV. Finding her less than like-able, I really didn't care about her thoughts.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Hollie Jackson, who I quite enjoy. She has a great read and is what kept me going to actually finish this book. Great pacing and energy throughout. She added personality to the read, ensuring I would be curious enough to want to try the next book.

Oh yeah, did I mention this is a serial not a series!! No resolution and the book just ends, abruptly, with no warning! Really not a happy camper here! It ends just when things start to get interesting and catch my attention!

Disclosure – I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own.

*** If you found this review at all helpful, please take a moment to let me know. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed, all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review! This was fun. Hilarious scenes and dialogues. Perfect for October and Halloween. #FraterfestRAT

Leigh Epstein is a grief stricken and lonely elementary school teacher that is devastated by the brutal and unexpected death of her true love at the hands of a careless writer. She overcomes her grief by taking matters in her own hands and takes up a little romance writing to resurrect her vampire-werewolf book-boyfriend. Leigh gets more than she bargained for when she discovers that every steamy erotic scene she creates is magically re-enacted by her family, friends, and coworkers. In her hilarious first diary, Leigh unwittingly sets her parents up for a weekend dinner party that they will never forget. She has two weeks to find out what her newfound magic is capable of. Can she prevent a wild erotic encounter that could devastate her sweet parent’s marriage? What and who else will get caught up in her magic spells?

Leigh is shocked. How can the author let her beloved romance figure die? She sobs for hours and when she tells the real reason for her tears her best friend, it is clear that she has to write her own novel to get some sort of revenge. And with that, the fun begins. Because Leigh uses for her literal work a desk she got for free. And that desk is magical. Literally magical.

Accidental Leigh is written in a very funny way. There are many hilarious scenes and dialogues that make you laugh. The writing-style is easy to read, sometimes a bit cheesy and with lots of flowery paraphrase to describe certain things. Like a man´s crown jewels. I love the author´s writing style very much. It was exactly what I had needed, and the perfect Halloween read.

Okay, don´t expect the figures to be profound. The ladies here are anything but. They want fun, a great man who knows everything they want before they speak it out loud and if that is done with the help of a witch, so be it. I had a broad smile all over my face while reading this story and it was clear that the author had wanted some funny figures and created nothing but that.

Leigh is a young woman who is shocked when one of her beloved romance figures was killed by the author at an early stage in the novel. As some sort of revenge, she decides to write her own novel where her beloved character is living on.

This was fun. If you are looking for some sexy romance with a Halloween touch – this is your book. I read it within hours, and it made me laugh.

Was originally posted on Paranormal Sisters: http://paranormalsisters.blogspot.com...

The cover grabbed my attention, I just love illustrated covers and this one is cute! Then the blurb really pulled my interest, I mean, all us bookworms have been there at some point or another. But then reading some of the reviews got me a little nervous so I just let it sit on my Kindle app for a while. Finally, just going for it because the cover was constantly grabbing my eye whenever I was looking through my kindle books. It's short so why not.

Sadly to say I was quite disappointed. For one, I'm not at all a huge fan of Leigh. She bugged me! She's not a big fan of guys so she's constantly putting them down and saying all guys are the same and nothing like her book boyfriends. Why she disses them I have no idea! We get nothing of her past relationships that might be the reason why she seems hurt and like men are the devil (okay, that might be extreme but yeah). Then she owns a cat named Luna and she's a total bitch to her. Constantly calling the cat a bitch, complaining about her, and think she should go take her back to the shelter. Like, if you didn't want the cat then why did you adopt one?! Seriously this character felt so antisocial that I was surprised that she had any girl friends. And even though she had friends, at the end of the book she was completely selfish! Her friends needed her yet she left them hanging. Seriously!

Now the plot, it took me a while to get into. Honestly I don't think the story knew where it was going. I felt like it was a bit jumpy. One minute it was about her being excited about the latest release in her favorite paranormal romance series but the death of her book boyfriend leads her to want to write her own story. From the summary I thought she was going to write about the book boyfriend, Vlad, that died in her favorite series but instead she just writes her own steamy scene ideas which leads to them coming true with her loved ones. And then the romance came out of the blue and yeah, it was a bit lame. Their first date, what happened was especially. *Rolls eyes*

I was constantly rolling my eyes! The first thing that happens that is close to resemblance of what she written (like one specific word) she automatically assumes she's a freaking witch. Girl calm the freak down! The friend she called right away I was on her side, she was realistic (sorry, I don't remember which friend it was). She brought Leigh down a notch and said she should do some trial stories to see what happens. I've got to admit some of the stories were funny on how they turned out. This is where I thought the story would turn around and that I thought I finally started to like Leigh. Yeah, that lasted like five seconds.

Overall, this book just wasn't for me and at the end I did kind of feel like I wasted my time, just a pinch. I've never felt that way about a book before! This book has a lot going on but doesn't have a lot going on at the same time too. We don't get a lot of background about Leigh and the things we do know about her goes completely against her character. How can you be an elementary teacher yet diss kids and find them gross. Like seriously, all she does is complain about everything! Except for when she becomes a witch. Honestly I don't like that she automatically assumed she's a witch. Throughout the story I felt like it was only this certain object that had magic but it became more than that, as if the power rubbed off on her. It was a little disappointing, I wished it just stayed within her writing. I think that would have been a lot more cooler and unique.

REVIEW
Let me say that I was so excited about the release of this book. Just the cover made me smile.
And as soon as it released I grabbed it and didn’t put down my kindle til I was done reading.

We have Leigh a school teacher with a book boyfriend fetish more or less. She compares men in her real life almost to the ones in her books. HAHA the word Marshmallow is used to compare to one man she dated named Carl who is a school teacher also.
Leigh has an adult toy chest that would put most adult toy stores to shame. Too funny.

After the death of one of her favorite book boyfriends she decides to write a book and goes in search of items for a writing cave. She finds an antique desk for free and the old woman just wants it gone.

Without out giving to much away let me just say.

WEIRD things begin to happen as she writes at the desk including her cat Luna being more weird than normal. Things start to happen to her friends, her parents and to herself.

While over at one of her friends houses Leigh meets Hunter.
Will Hunter become her real life book boyfriend??

Kudos to Melanie James !!!
This book was fantastic. It’s comical I laughed so hard while reading this book, romantic, sexy and very well written.

Now go grab your copy and figure out what an old desk and a crazy cat named Luna may have to do with it or is it all in Leigh’s head?

LEIGH EPSTEIN...You are my HERO!

My description of this book? A TOTALLY (to steal the words of a friend) AB-SO-FREAKIN-LUTELY amazing read!
Are you looking for a FUN book that will make you smile and laugh? I mean laugh until you literally cry??
Well, let me JUST tell you, this is the book for you.
Let me preface by saying, I'm am Melanie James fan hands down! Whatever she writes, I'll read. The woman can write ANYTHING and this book proves it! Different by far from A Valentine's Surprise and Conjuring Darkness (both of which I adored BTW), this book had me in tears...Oh did I already say that? (laughing tears...a different spin...right?)
I saw a lot of myself in this book ..*winky winky* and boy does Leigh Epstein weave her spell on her friends! Leigh has all the best intentions of bringing good luck to her deserving friends by conjuring a spell of witchcraft on them, she just doesn't realize that things CAN backfire! How does a reclaimed desk and a cat named Luna play into the equation? You'll have to read to find out...I ain't giving any spoilers. I will tell you that a ripped roofer named Hunter is one of the characters Leigh has 'dealings' with and I cannot wait to read more about this hottie.
Settle into this fun read with your earbuds in listening to Frank Sinatra singing 'Witchcraft' and savor this page turner. Melanie James, yet again you've stolen my heart with a great read and I am 100% a fan!
What's next for Leigh? Can't freakin wait! #bringit
Word up....Local 1313 beware, Leigh Epstein is headed your way and GOD help you all:)

I LOVED this book! I couldn’t put it down!

This book kind of took me back to my childhood; it’s The worst witch with some adult scenes thrown in for good measure.

The story most definitely is interesting and is so funny. It’s not often books make me really laugh but this one most certainly did!

I really got into this story from the first page, though at first I was so confused about Leigh calling her cat a bitch - that made me really uncomfortable. Though there was no explanation given about the cat’s change in mood through the book, (other than the obvious) I suspect we’ll know more about that in the second book.

I admit that I read some of the reviews before starting this book, I don’t often do it but if I am using Goodreads prior to starting the book for shelving and stuff I can’t resist checking out other people’s thoughts and feelings. I read a review about the ending ruining the book – it so didn’t, if anything personally I found it just gave me a reason to want to read the second!
I had no issue with this book whatsoever, thanks for a wonderful read!

This was a very funny light hearted read of a woman who finds what it's like to have her childhood wish of having magic unexpectedly granted, and becomes a witch. It's an exciting new adventure until she learns that her magic makes everything go horribly wrong even though she has the best of intentions.
If your looking for a quick funny read, I recommend this one. It'll have you laughing you're way to the last page and aching to find out what other hilarious situations Leigh gets her friends and family and herself into.

And what's up with her cat btw?? Guess I'll have to keep reading to find out! :)

Hilarious, laugh out loud comedy. The main character accidentally inherits the power of witchcraft by aquiring a magic desk. A problem arises when she inadvertently creates chaos around her. This book revolves around the main problem that she created for her parents. The story ends with the resolution of that problem and then there is a cool lead-in to the next episode,Serious Leigh, when she receives a summons to appear before the Witches Union.

This book was totally fun. I was laughing through out the book. I loved the whole witch situation and all the crazy spells. I feel for Leigh book boyfriends are so much fun and you get attached to them. I really enjoyed the whole plot and the desk played a huge part in making such crazy sex stories come to life. Can't wait to pick up the second book.

The book attempts to be funny but only comes off crass and disgusting. The main character was just sad and not very likable at all. Very disappointing. Trying too hard to be Bridget Jones without the charm.

Hearing about the main character writing sex scenes that actually ends up happening to her family (her mother, her sister) was so freaking weird! It was way too weird and cringe-worthy for me. I wanted to block the sound but I didn't since it was so short and I needed one more book for a challenge. Now, I want to read more fun cozy mysteries and that cover seemed cute so I tried it. It's not a cozy mystery but a paranormal romance but I don't mind. However, the main character was a bit annoying as she seem to bitch and hate too many people (men, her mother, her cat) and anyway that didn't end up being a good book for me. I didn't even care about what was happening.

A promising start to a fun and light-hearted series. Leigh loves a good romance book. When she’s inspired to become a romance novelist, she discovers there is magic in her words… however, her good intentions quickly lead to some hilarious scenarios as she uncovers that her new found witch powers aren’t what they seem and are causing more harm than good. Ending on a cliffhanger, I look forward to seeing where this series leads with how Leigh reigns in her witchcraft and a possible love interest, and the author’s clever titles for the series are an inkling as what’s to come.

Listened on audio: Hollie Jackson’s performance was excellent and I really enjoyed how she brought Leigh’s personality to life.

This is a book that I enjoyed in spite of myself. Leigh, accidentally finds out that she has witchy powers. She discovers an ability to use magic through writing. Unfortunately, her powers seem to work like the Monkey's Paw. Nothing works as expected. Some of this book is hilarious, some will make you groan and some will raise your eyebrows. I am happy that I read it.

The writing itself wasn’t bad hence the two stars but I just found the Leigh, the main character insufferable and shallow. I imagine since it is only the first book perhaps she grows throughout the series. Unfortunately for me this book is all I have to go off of.
