Fight the Hunger: A Hunger Driven Novel

Rate this book
Brad McCoy is a survivor, and a cynical bastard. He lived through the bloody first few months of the zombie rising and lost everything he cared about before finding his place in this new, terrible world. He fights alone, exterminating the hungry dead, and he is okay as long as he is doing the job. He is an exterminator, and instead of ants in the pantry or raccoons in the attic, he eradicates zombies and he’s damned good at it. He thinks the dead hold no surprises for him anymore, and he must only truly fear the living. Unfortunately for Brad, and the rest of the living population, he is wrong…

Join Brad and his not-so-merry band of survivors as they try to carve out their own safe place in a world overrun by the dead. Along the way, watch as Brad begins to emerge from his self-imposed isolation and notices the people around him as he relearns what it is to be human. Slowly at first, and on his own terms, of course. Just don’t try to tell Brad your sad story, because he really doesn’t want to hear it. He’s got enough on his plate.

This exciting new book of the war with the dead combines an original, 85,000-word novel with the short story that started it all, “Hunger Driven”, for one low price.

About the author

William Allen

William Allen was born and raised in the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas, a place of great natural beauty and a scarcity of decent paying jobs. Growing up on a farm, he dreamed of one day finding one of those jobs involving working indoors and enjoying air conditioned comfort. Most of the farm work was outdoors, rain or shine, and air conditioning was something he read about in books. They even talked about something he'd only dreamed of before, something to do with health insurance. No, that was probably just science fiction.

Books were a refuge for young William, and as he grew older, he decided to try his hand at creating his own fantasy worlds. To his way of thinking, writing seemed to involve way more "brain sweat" that the other kind. So far, so good. And at least the air conditioning still works.

"Walking in the Rain" started as a short story and over time developed into a series of novels exploring the changed world a young man who finds himself stranded far from home when the lights go out. Everywhere.

Luke is a capable survivor who quickly hardens his heart in order to live a day-to-day existence while making a seemingly hopeless trek home to his family. Along the way, Luke meets someone special who helps him rediscover his lost humanity. Make no mistake, though. Luke learned to be a cold-blooded killer to survive, and having something to lose merely makes him all the more vicious when he is forced to act.

To date, the first three books, "Walking in the Rain: Surviving the Fall", "Home Fires Burning", and "Hard Rain Falling" have been published exclusively here on Amazon. Book Four in the series, "Dark Sky Thunder" will be released in September, 2015. These first three titles are all now available in audiobook form from Audible.com. The incomparable Pat Young provides the dramatic readings for these books and adds an extra dimension to these powerful stories.

Also, the short story "Hunger Driven" will shortly be joined by a full length zombie novel currently in production, entitled "A Feast for Crows". The sixty plus page tale represents the author's own take on the Zombie Apocalypse in Southeast Texas and is a jumping off point for the forthcoming full length novel. The scenery is still pretty except for all those nasty walking corpses littering the landscape.

The author is proud to have contributed a short story, "'Ware, Goblins" for the recently released zombie anthology "Bite Sized Offerings." This collection of stories represents a lineup of the best talent in the horror business, and I can only assume they included me by accident. Oh, well, it was my gain, after all.

The zombie apocalypse has started and Brad McCoy is an exterminator. After losing his family to the zombies, Brad has escaped the Houston area and attached himself to a Texas Army National Guard troop in a civilian capacity. He goes ahead of the troop as it cleans a small town to make it into a safe zone for survivors. Brad sets up and kills the zombie horde so that the Guard only has a few stragglers to take care of.

Then one day a car filled with women who have escaped enslavement by a Mexican drug cartel comes along. Brad saves them, killing the men chasing them. Because sometimes the living are more dangerous than the dead. The story continues as the women become part of the community, including eighteen year old Casey who knows how to shoot and can be hard as nails if needed. As time goes on, Brad's loner persona begins to crack.

This is not a family friendly book. It is filled with profanity and violence. It has guns. LOTS of guns. If you are not a lover of guns or zombie stories, this is not for you. But if you are, then it has good action, nice humorous moments, and zombies to kill.

A Great book

Wow! If I could give it 10 stars, I would with no hesitation! This book has it all and then some. I wish Mr. Allen would write more of Brad's story.

A great book and an awesome continuation of the short story, 'Hunger Driven'! Mr. Allen delivers with more narration from Brad McCoy, self-proclaimed "Zombie Exterminator". As his "jobs" become more numerous, Casey (a rescued teen from the short story) enlists herself as Brad's trainee and partner. The interactions and conversations between the two are enjoyable to read and funny, too!

When Brad's skills are needed to assist a rescue mission, both he and Casey step up to help. But being an exterminator can get tricky when it's not just the undead....the living, with the wrong ideas, can be just as much of a problem.

I absolutely loved the conversational tone of this entire book. With Brad's insights and opinions, it was easy to follow and become totally immersed in his story-telling. What I'd like next is another book to follow! I have always enjoyed Mr. Allen's writing, especially the 'Walking in the Rain' series, but his fresh approach on a zombie apocalypse was extremely entertaining! I'll look forward to more books from William Allen....but more of Brad's adventures, please!

Oh! And if you haven't read the short story yet, don't despair! It's actually offered at the beginning of this book. So you can enjoy both stories in a single book! Well done!
