** This is Book 4 of the Private Love series. We recommend you begin with Book 1: Private Love in a Public Place **
Toni Kenyon lives in Auckland with her husband (and their dog and cat) the goldfish is just squatting! She writes romance by day, sings in a band by night and in her spare (yeah, right) time she wrangles difficult heroes into line, so they can star in her next novel. Toni also loves the garden and has a special place in her heart for her fruit trees and her veggie patch. A keen amateur photographer, Toni posts “Mood of the Suburbs” shots across most of her social media profiles. She loves to hear from like-minded people, so pop on over and say 'Hi' any time. This is the fourth book in the “Rockstar Romance - Private Love” series by Toni Kenyon and I can say that, in general, it has made a very good impression on me. I write this review as soon as I've read the book in order to be able to remember the details.
The story’s protagonist, Julian, is at the peak of his career, he has left behind the madness the publicity is accompanied with and is now trying to mature, to become a better person, a model father and partner. Generally, people who manage to overcome their selfishness and who want every day to get better in every aspect of their lives is something rare and to find said attributes in a famous musician ... even rarer.
In the first book, our hero had characteristics of a diva musician; he was demanding, was looking to be the center of attention and liked to test the limits. Not anymore, though. In the first book we saw his struggle to win the love of the woman he loves, in the second we got a glimpse of one of the many crazy experiences that apparently he has lived in the many years he had been in the music and performing industry, in the third book we saw how he began to mature and to learn to live a relaxed, family life and in the fourth book we see how he struggles to combine his three loves: music, performing and his family.
Mags, our protagonist’s woman, has been presented, from the beginning, as a pragmatic, mature, talented, smart and down to earth woman who is the only person that can calm Julian and make him see reason. She is a woman quite dynamic, passionate and admirable. It is successfully depicted in the story how extremely difficult for a woman is to combine motherhood with life on the road, touring. I really liked how the author captured the variety of Mags’ emotions when she wanted to return to the profession she did so many years at the side of Julian, but on the other hand, she felt remorse that she would leave her little girl into a nanny’s hands. Every working mother has lived those emotions and, in those moments, I really sympathized with her. I also liked the way she fought to keep close to Julian avoiding hysterical reactions; although she was tempted to succumb to the jealousy Dusky was provoking.
The scenes where the two protagonists initially realize, in the first books, that they cannot ignore their attraction and secondly, that they nourish feelings for each other, are quite intense and very beautifully rendered. Their love scenes are pretty hot in this book too, but given in a very romantic way that does not make you feel like reading a porn book. Instead, they are depicted as the simple, natural consequence of the relationship between the two protagonists and they warm your heart.
Julian really tries to be close to the family he created and he seems focused to his struggle to keep them united, because he really loves his wife and child. The story illustrates a couple discussing thoroughly their problems; they admire and respect each other and all this is the recipe for a successful marriage.
I really disliked Sam’s character because of both his past and his whole attitude towards his brother. I always felt as suspicious of him as the protagonists. I do not feel he deserved the credit Julian gave him, I think he was treated with exaggerated superiority. The same applies to the character of Dusty. What I liked, though, was that they were presented as two villains that didn’t overreact nor had an extreme behavior. They were two obnoxious characters, but realistically rendered.
Having said all the above, I put the book 3.5 stars, while still trying to figure out if this book is the last one in the series or if the story will be continued. My opinion is that the author should not get too far, unless she wants to present something about other characters of the books and just to give us some glimpses of the life of the protagonists we loved, through the narration of the other characters’ story.
I loved this book! Julian and Mags are forced to go back on tour. Can their relationship survive all that a tour involves? Adoring fans, fellow musicians trying to catch Julian's attention? Will having a baby along make the challenge too great? I so enjoyed this 4th book in this series. Start at book one and read them all. You will enjoy their story!
What you won't find in this series is the typical portrayal of a rockstar. What you will find is an endearing rockstar....loving, faithful, a great father....and his partner Mags (or almost-wife as she so lovingly states)!
I love the portrayal of Jules, the rockstar, the man, husband and father. I adore the woman by his side, Mags, and feel what she is feeling, hurt when she is hurting, and feel frustration right along with her!
That is what is so special about this series. I don't want it to end. I just want more....more children, wedding bells, and more of the special banter between all of the characters. I laugh when Jules acts so petulant...just like a child!
This story is about the struggles they have to face when Jules goes back on the road with Mags and his baby along for the trip. It is also about reconnecting with family and friends.
Great series. I highly recommend! You'll love Jules, Mags, and their special cast of friends and family.
This is about his return to the stage. And the secret he had kept from her. His brother is part of that secret from his past. Now we see if things go going to be good or go south. And what his brother? New band members? So much going on. What a journey.
I really loved this book. Juliananf megs are such an amazing couple. This is the first series that I have read by Toni. I love it I can't wait to see what else she has written.
When asked why I read Rock romance books, the answer can be found in this book. A to die for Rock God on a return from the dead tour, his totally devoted other half and their baby girl. The love Julian MacAvoy has for his new family never wavers but can he literary come back from the dead and face all he left behind. What kept this from being 5 stars was the ending, for me there was a lot left hanging. I sincerely hope to read more on everyone.
