Jimmy Liao (pen name: 幾米；autonym: Lao Fu-Bin, 廖福彬) born in Yilan County, Taiwan. in Fine Arts, with a major in Design. He had worked in advertising companies for 12 years. Now he works as an illustrator. Since 1998, Jimmy published several illustrated books with amazing originality and multi-faceted narratives. He had since set a fashion in creating and publishing illustrated books in local and international markets. Utilizing images as a refreshing form of literary language, Jimmy creates in his works poetic frames that emit charms and appeals. He has published seventeenth popular books so far, and they are translated into English, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Korean and so forth. Being the most popular illustrator author in Asia, creating lots of fantasy and touch hearts cross all generation, however, with low profile personality, he enjoys the family time more, lives a tranquil life and devotes most of his time to work. Immersing in his works is just like to go into Jimmy's inner world, his inviting stories reflect the reality of real life, more and more people are intoxicated by his vivid strokes and his magic realism narratives. Now in Asia, Jimmy becomes vogue of the time, beyond his stories, "Jimmy" is like a pop of a new life style.

Liao mantiene sempre la sua grande forza poetica nei disegni, con quel tocco surreale che fa filtrare le emozioni sulla tavola, modificando gli ambienti in cui si muovono i personaggi. Chi legge viene così spiazzato e commosso, nel senso che si muove con le emozioni che emergono dalle tavole, grazie a questo approccio particolare del disegno. Rispetto però all’Arcobaleno del tempo, qui la storia è ancora meno coinvolgente e interessante (come affrontare il lutto per la morte di un animale domestico), forse anche per un mio limite, non avendo mai avuto animali domestici a cui fossi legato emotivamente. Al di là di tale limite, tuttavia, non si innescano grandi riflessioni né vengono trasmesse sfumature originali, lasciando tutto il messaggio un po’ in superficie; difetto dovuto forse anche al fatto che questo albo sembra pensato più per ragazzi rispetto all’altro che ho letto.

This one is about a little black dog that has left the little girl. And an old hotel they used to spent time together. His work is very dreamy. You can have endless possibilities in a dream setting. These are just some of his imaginations. You either love it or hate it. It’s very hard to sit on the fence. I don’t really fancy the illustration to be honest. I want a plot, a story that is filled with life and full of surprises. I want to feel and to be taken to a place further than just random graveyards, sky, moon, art galleries, swimming pool, forest and bridges. I don’t believe in randomness. In fact I hate randomness.

Esta es una historia con la que quien sea que haya tenido una mascota puede sentirse identificado. ¿Y quién ha dicho que solamente se leen palabras? Leemos gestos, miradas. Y es pues la combinación de las ilustraciones que hizo el relato hermoso. Sencillo de leer, nada complicado de entender. Las emociones es de lo más complejo que puede haber en la mente de un ser humano. Esta sencillez con la que Jimmy lo transmite en su redacción y en su ilustración es lo que me hizo abrazar este en libro en mi regazo. Es para niños, para todos.

¿Por qué los sueños se desvanecen al amanecer? ¿Por qué al despertarnos intentamos queremos revivirlos?
Un libro que a primera vista parece simple, pero cuando llegas al final te toca las fibras más sensibles. Empieza con algo tan sencillo como una niña enviándole cartas a su perrito, y termina dándonos una lección acerca de la pérdida y los recuerdos, de lo último el autor nos dice que por más que un ser querido desaparezca de forma física, si nosotros nos quedamos con los recuerdos y buenos momentos que pasamos con ese ser nunca se nos va a ir completamente de nuestra vida.

Another heartwarming book from Jimmy Liao. He is great at telling touching stories by drawing so simple and cheerful.

Love'd this one, too. It is about loss, which I experienced closely recently. But in the end, hope is never ending. Unfortnately. Or, thankfully?
