I'm still not convinced by this series, having read the opening volume, and this, the third. There's enough drama and character here I suppose for the target audience, and the world of Ben is rounded out with relationship quandaries and strong female characters for the female reader. But still things didn't exactly overwhelm. Even the initial idea, of turning 9/11 on its head by having a plane crashed into the train tunnel through the Eiger up to the Jungfraujoch, wasn't utilised very well – it leads to nothing more dramatic than questions, and a bit of PTSD-styled worrying for Ben that is immediately forgotten about as soon as possible. There is more rescue-type action to come, and the lovely Ms Harris has a nice way of feeding in to the plot things which will come in use later, but the emphasis on the drama is a misguided mix of dodgy political ideas (almost as if Russell Brand was a model) and revenge drama. There is a distinctive flavour to the agency Ben has to use to survive the day and save the world, but still something lacking. The fact that even by the end we seem to be in origin-story territory suggests there are a lot more books to come, but I would debate spending the time on more.
