Iron Horse MC #4

Exquisite Karma

Rate this book
~Author's Note-Exquisite Karma is part 2 of Beach and Sarah's story. Part 1, Exquisite Redemption, should be read first for the most enjoyment.~

Sarah
Life as the old lady of Carlos 'Beach' Rodriguez, National President of the Iron Horse MC, was everything I never knew I wanted. Not only did I have a good man who treated me like a queen and loved me like crazy, I also had a vast-extended family of rough and tumble bikers who accepted and welcomed me into their world without judgement. Unfortunately, good things don't last for a girl like me and just when I finally felt like I'd found my happily ever after my psychopath of a mother had to show up and destroy it. She betrayed me, betrayed the club, and put everyone I've ever loved in mortal danger. Our only chance of surviving this is for me to find her and recover the weapons that Iron Horse was moving for the Russian and Israeli mafia that she helped steal. I can only hope that Beach can forgive me for her sins.

Beach
I should have known Sarah would never betray me, would never work with her junkie mom to steal from the club, but I let my temper run my mouth and now my woman's gone. Normally I'd go after her, but the Russian and Israeli mafias want their merchandise back and if we don't find it they'll wipe us off the face of the earth. To make matters worse, there are traitors in the Iron Horse MC that are feeding our every move to our enemies, kidnapping our women and children, and killing our men. I have to stay here in Austin and try to save our people while Sarah is out there, somewhere, alone, hunting down some of the most dangerous men in the world. I can only pray that God takes mercy on my wicked soul and protects my baby girl from those seeking to cash in on the massive bounty on her head before I can find her. 'Cause if they find her first death would be a mercy compared to the nightmare her life will become.

About the author

Ann Mayburn

95 books1,973 followers
Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead(though she will deny to her children that it ever happened).

From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back.

Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a cranky baby.

Fuck it, 5 Big Ones

So it's been irritating me that I haven't really reviewed reviewed the last few books I've read, including this entire smutastic fuck fest of an MC/BDSM/survivalist/religious cult shit show of awesome sauce series.

Say THAT^^^ five times fast.

I have been saying to myself, "Self, you are SOOOOO far behind!"

description

And then I realized...

description

Seriously though, apparently I felt all "behind the collegiate curve" there for a minute and then also realized...

description

And has been - for ME - for like...well, a really long fucking time.

*ahem*

Moving on, I realized "oh well."

Sometimes you just don't feel like reviewing, right?

But I didn't want to leave this series with nothing, because I SERIOUSLY enjoyed it.

So here is my verbal diarrhea of a review for books one through four.

I apologize for the lame beforehand.

description

*snort*

I am trying to think of a way to explain this series.

It was centered around an MC Club and, while I wouldn't call this the "grittiest" MC series I've ever read, it was also no Kristen Ashley rainbows and glitter-ridden Chaos either - as much as I lurve that.

So there's that.

There was also some BDSM element to all the books - both main H characters are dominant-esque; however, I would definitely classify this as BDSM-lite.

There was also the whole added element of the two h's of the series being twins.

With one being a high-functioning autistic.

description

Ooooooo, curve ball #1.

Add to that the element was their super crazy weird upbringing - mom is a con artist and dad is a crazy former Special Forces turned uber "off the grid" survivalist - however, they were raised separate as mom jacked twin one and when on the lamb, leaving twin two with pop.

description

Annnnd, curve ball #2.

Tangent: Actually, that last one is a rise ball. And that's Jenny Finch, for those interested. She was a pitcher for the USA team. And I used to play against her back in the good old club softball days...Pretty sure I saw this pitch fly by me...followed shortly by the umpire yelling "strike," but whatevs!

Oh, and here's where I should probably mention that the first one wasn't a curve either. It was actually a drop pitch. But curve ball sounds WAAAAAAY better.

And like my Granny always said: "Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story."

AnyShamelessNameDrop, back to the book.

Confused yet?

description

Yeah.

Exactly.

Needless to say, this series had all the ingredients to be a shit show of epic proportions.

And, quite frankly, it is and will be a total shit show for some.

Personally though?

It just worked for me and I loved the series more and more the further I got into it.

I loved all the main characters.

And, most importantly?

I truly felt the bone deep connection between both leading couples - an element that, when it clicks for me, can make me overlook a LOT of other things that might drive me crazy.

Seriously, a couple's connection and the draw I feel between them is perhaps the most IMPORTANT element of ANY book for me.

Well, this series had it for me in spades.

And, after all, that's why we read romance, right?

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I started book one of this series yesterday afternoon...and was up all night devouring the rest of the series. So here we are after the completion of book 4.

And book 5 can't come out soon enough.

Review later.

Re-read 3/22/17....still one of my favorite biker books :)

This is the 4th book in this series, but it's the second book about Sarah and Beach. Their story continues and so does the crazy shit surrounding them.

Again....I'm not going into the plot, because there is just too much to go into.

Eventhough everyone in this book is crazy on some level, I really enjoyed these two books (I skipped 1 and 2) and the amazing couple that is Sarah and Beach.

The only thing bothering me, is that there is so much left open. I guess that plotline will continue in the next book about Lyric and Hustler.

If you like MC books, steam, suspence, action and some cray cray, you should definitely give these books a try.

I'm sure as shit going back to read book 1 and 2, which are about Swan and Smoke.

Part 2 of Sarah and Beach's story.

Sarah is trying to find the mother who betrayed not only her, but her man's club. She is hiding in plain sight with disguises but with her pregnancy it is getting harder to do. Beach is going out of his mind wanting to know if Sarah is safe, the last time he saw her did not go well and what he said to her cut her deep. He wants her back and by his side, will he find her in time?

This was an excellent finale to Sarah and Beach's story. You knew a lot because of the second book but I liked finding out what Sarah was up to. Beach you see a different side, he has a temper and he is trying to find out who the traitor in his club is. Can't wait for the next book which is Hustler's story,it is going to be epic.

This series just gets better and better!

If you haven’t read Exquisite Trouble and Exquisite Danger, stop reading this and go read those. Exquisite Redemption and Exquisite Karma are companion books that tell the true story of how Beach and Sarah met and fell in love and what happened during the time Sarah was missing while looking for her mother. I’m not a big fan of books that go over old ground, but the insight into what happened to Sarah kept me engaged even though I knew how it worked out in the end.

Sarah is definitely my idea of an almost perfect heroine. She had it rough, getting stuck with the craziest parent in the divorce. Abused and used, she clawed herself out of that situation at a surprisingly young age. She made a name for herself and enough money to finally make her dreams come true in an unconventional way. You can’t help but admire her spirit. Taught by the best, Sarah is one badass bitch who can take care of herself. Having led such a tough life, she is mature beyond her years, but you get glimpses of the young girl she really is at times and it’s usually heartbreaking.

Sarah had a plan to have one last night of wild with a random bad boy and then to settle down by going to school and finding a mature man who she could rely on. Those plans were derailed in a spectacular way when her night ended with Beach and her getting violently kidnapped at a biker rally.

Beach is amazing. Definitely a case of biker insta-lust, but with Sarah being the beautiful badass she is, how could he not want her? He could be one hell of an alpha-hole but he needed to be. He treats her with care, letting her be the woman she needs to be but at the same time keeping her safe even if it was from herself. My only complaint with Beach was he didn’t pick up on clues surrounding Sarah’s upbringing and the ongoing threat she continued to face.

Sarah and Beach were definitely good together. There was a lot of push and pull, both in and out of the bedroom. Beach was 100% in charge in the bedroom and he was very, very good at it. When “Papi” came out to play it was intense, sexy, and unbelievably hot.

Just as things are settling down for them, Sarah’s Mom shows up and all hell breaks loose. I do wish Sarah had been truthful from the start but I got why she was reluctant to share her true upbringing. When the worst happens, Beach doesn’t handle it well and Sarah, feeling responsible, strikes out alone to fix things.

I did feel like Sarah was reckless by going out on her own and her excuses as to why didn’t really hold water for me. As super protective as she was over Swan, her not calling in reinforcements ended up putting Swan in more danger. How the merchandise ended up being found, which we weren’t told in Swan’s books, ended up being kind of a letdown for me. I decided to chalk up all her questionable decisions to extreme stress and just go along for the ride.

The Iron Horse MC fascinates me–the infrastructure, grit, action, politics, and especially the men. I am hoping we get the next installment soon because I am really enjoying this series. There’s a war going on and no one is sure who all the players are so I can’t wait to dive into the next one.

This was good. Lots of sexy times, action & adventure.

I'm not sure I came away with a lot of new information from the storyline but I enjoyed every scene that Beach & Sarah shared with one another. I couldn't help but swoon from the love that radiated from Beach's eyes every time he looked at her. (I also gobbled up every single sentence where Smoke & Swan were concerned because they are THE best!)

The big mystery still remains though & I NEED to know the answer! Who is Chief & when will the Iron Horse MC get it's hands on him?!

Looking forward to Hustler & Lyric's story, Exquisite Innocence! Although I thought it was supposed to come out late 2016? And it's now spring 2017 & no new book is here... *off to investigate*

This was a great conclusion to Sarah and Beach's love story, but really leaves us hanging as far as who "The Chief" is and how many people inside the MC are involved with this traitor.

I am psyched to read Lyric and Hustler's story...should be good!

I loved the first 3 books in this timeline, and had high hopes here, but I barely finished it. I love this story, I hated the way it was told this time around. It has been months since I read the second part of Swan's story, so I would not have actually minded a little more explanation of the events that take place in both books, I was just confused a lot of the time as the story jumped from plot point to plot point, trying to carefully hit each event where the timelines cross over without giving too much repetetive content is difficult, I'm sure, for me it didn't work. last half of the book was disorienting and boring, because it was written like the author was bored to death and just trying to pound out the required events - so the things that made Sarah's story unique from Swan's were often glossed over.

Plus, as far as any D/s or DD/lg dynamic that they seemed to be moving towards in the first book (and hinting at during their appearance in Alexandr's Reluctant Submissive ) was minimized here, especially in the second half. This is the author's choice and I can't complain, but it was something I found intriguing about Sarah and Beach that really didn't play out in any real way here.

As a reader of contemporary romance it's often necessary to overlook plot inconsistencies, editing gaffs, or other quirks of writing that don't get filtered out in the ebook publishing process. Like any dedicated reader, I do my best to smile and ignore those things and keep myself deep in the world of the book. I couldn't do that here, there was just too much to ignore. On top of confusing, disinterested writing one also had to overlook confusing, disinterested editing:

Her eyes softened and she squatted before me, her voice low as she whispered, “I believe you, but a lot of the brothers aren’t so sure. There’s talk that this was all a big scam from the start, that you’ve been planning to rip this club off from the beginning. How long you been settin’ this up with your mom, huh?”
“What?” I gasped as I held the towel to my chest. “That’s not true. How can you even say that to me?”
His gaze was dark and serious, not a trace of my loving man looking back at me in those cold deep blue eyes. “Look, you need to stay in the room right now. The sentiment downstairs isn’t very happy. Beach is dealing with the Russians and the Israelis, trying to buy us some time to find Billie and our shit. Do you have any idea where she might be?”

Whaa?? So it appears Scarlet, a woman, is talking, then she gets turned into a he who doesn't have a trace of her "loving man" in his eyes, so apparently the "he" is her blue eyed man - Beach , except in the very next sentence Beach's location is discussed, so the speaker here somehow turns from female-to male-to a specific male character-then back to a generic unknown person for the next few paragraphs. It's mind-boggling! Anyway, a single mistake like this could be overlooked. Even the fact that heroin is frequently spelled "heroine" is annoying, but not really a big deal in itself.

When these kinds of careless errors and inconsistencies appear dozens of times (so much that I stopped trying to mark them), I can't help but feel like someone should be paying me $3.99 for the arduous reading experience rather than the other way around. Even if the story were flawless it would be hard to ignore the lack of proofreading in what is essentially a product consisting only of words on a screen. When you pay for the right to read words on a screen, shouldn't they at least be the right words in the right order?

I know I'm harsh but I had such high hopes! I am always enthralled by the characters Ms. Mayburn creates, she continues to concoct detailed and varied backgrounds for her characters that are so compelling they often outshine the action. Those characters deserve to be read without the obstructions of underdeveloped storylines or careless editing.

Ok so I'm unsure if I will continue with the second half of Beach and Sarah's story. I was reading reviews and a couple mentioned that you might want to read Alexandr's Reluctant Submissive since this couple made appearance in that book. I skimmed thru that book and basically ruined this book for myself. I don't think I can read about Sarah and Beach anymore after Sarah almost cheated on Beach and probably would have if Beach wouldn't have stopped her. What happens next time when he is not there to stop her. Makes any HEA unbelievable. But I really wanted to read Lyric's story and I'm sure I will need to read this one before that one so I'm conflicted. Can anyone tell me if perhaps this situation was hashed out? Did a discussion take place, any kind of acknowledgement that this happened and it was resolved?

Phenomenal

You definitely must read the series in order. Including the Submissive's Wish series.
As Beach and Sarah move through their trials and tribulations, your can't help but be drawn into their drama.

I must say, this was an easy read. Terrific flow from scene to scene.

Thank you for the ending! This one left me wanting more, however did not have the massive cliffhanger, some of the others in the series had.

I am content to wait for late 2016 for the next installment.

Outstanding! Beach and Sarah have so much chemistry. Their love and passion for each other will always win over evil. But can trust win over love? Who will protect them from an insider that's determined to destroy the Club. Ann Mayburn is a genius. I absolutely loved the intertwined stories and found this book to be perfect! Looking forward to book 5!

“I held his gaze for a moment, willing him to see the truth in my words. “I never betrayed you, or the club, but you just betrayed me.”
Smoke took my arm and urged me with him. Without another look, I turned my back on Beach, and it hurt, but I forced myself to do it. Every step felt like a blow and I ignored the looks thrown my way, some sympathetic, some pissed, others sad. By the time we made it to the building, I was holding on to my pride by a thread, refusing to cry as I was marched up the stairs to Beach’s room ,where I assumed I’d be locked in.
Not that it mattered, I already had an escape plan that I’d formulated the first time I spent the night here.
So I didn’t protest when Smoke sighed then said, “Give him time to cool down, Sarah. I’ll go talk some sense into him.”
I shrugged and made my way over to the window, looking out at the ground three stories below. “Whatever.”
“Sweetheart—”
“Just go, Smoke. I’m tired and not feeling well.
I didn’t watch him leave, but let out a soft breath as he shut the door tightly behind him. I was tired, but I didn’t have the luxury of indulging in a nap. The sooner I left, the better. At the moment, most of the guys were probably still on the other side of the building with Beach in the parking lot. That meant I had to go, now.

Finally the back story to Swan's first two books and it does not disappoint. I adore Sarah's character, her 'pull the bull by the horns' attitude at proving her innocence to Beach is an adventure x 2000 love this book.

Absolutely love this series. Exquisite Karma is the conclusion to Sarah and Beach's story and it's so good. Mayburn gives us more clues into the evil group trying to take Iron Horse down, I have my theories on who "Chief " is and all I will say is his name ends with and E. Beach is one sexy biker and Sarah is one strong female lead. This is Sarah and Beach's side of the story, this book follows the same time line as the first two books. It ends at the same time of Storm and Swan's story. Hustler and Lyric are up next and I pray they take down Chief.. I am hoping Indigo, Hulk, Marley and Sledge get their stories. I would also love to read about Tricks and Julia or Scarlet and Thorn. If you haven't read Iron Horse MC series then I suggest you give it a go.You will not be disappointed. Happy Reading!!

RATING: 3.5/5

Now I really liked this book and this end. I am still not over the writer rushing into things and living things in the dark. We never know how and when Beach proposed to Sarah, how did they both lived the pregnancy or the birth... I felt like the writer could've taken more time to develop things. I also felt like Sarah did not actually do much but it was more Mimi and family's doing. I also struggled with the timeline but I, for sure, enjoyed it more than the two first books.

interesting read

Enjoyed this book. The series story continues. I like the well developed characters but I don’t like cliffhangers or stories that the author releases in two books when it could have easily been in one book. I not certain I will read any more in this series.

I liked this one less than Beach and Sarah's first book but it was still fun to read. I love how Sarah continues to be a badass and Beach is as hot as ever. The main drawback for me with this one is that for most of the book the two main characters aren't together, that's always been a drawback for me with books but this author did it in a way I did liked for the most part!
